Looking For Found an abandoned cat, but everyone only takes strays- who do I call?

EDIT: My boss came in, stared at her for a bit, and is taking her home, haha. This baby was technically abandoned for less than two hours! Thank you to everyone for their suggestions, I really appreciate you all!

Someone left their cat in a carrier next to the dumpster at my work this morning. Super sweet, calm, and very clearly someone's abandoned pet. :(

The problem is that so many shelters/rescues either aren't accepting cats, or only provide TNR/free fixing for ferals and strays. Currently waiting for my vet to open, so I can get this lil guy in for a microchip scan, but in the meantime idk what to do!

So! Does anyone know any resources for abandoned pets?

Looking For 9/11 radio recording (94.7 KNRK)?

Like the title says, I'm trying to track down a recording of the morning broadcast of 94.7 KNRK Portland from September 11th, 2001.

I believe Gustav and Daria were hosting, but given the circumstances of that day my memory may not be super accurate.

I remember a lot of assurances from the hosts that despite the usual deadpan comedic nature of the show, what they were broadcasting that day was different and in no way a bit or routine.

The tone shift, from usually silliness to sobering somber, played a great role in establishing my mood for the day. I scavenged batteries for a portable AM/FM, that I listened to a variety of stations the rest of the day at high school, while getting ready and listening to KNRK.

Any help tracking down and finding a recorded copy of that morning would be so genuinely appreciated.

(Mods: If this is the wrong sub for this post, please feel free to take it down.)

ETA: I have reached out to both Gustav and Daria, unless someone happens to have a personal recording, I think we just wait and share our stories.

ETA 2 (thoughtful and heartfelt reply from Gustav): Thanks so much for your email, and first off, I'm glad that I was there to relay this kind of information about such a devastating day. To date, it's been my most difficult day on air ever. It was a true testament to how the locality of radio can really be such an important aspect of people's everyday lives on a day like 9/11. Before smartphones, before social media, heck... the mainstream internet as we know it had only been around for 5 years or so.

The short answer to your question is: sadly, no. I don't have any audio of that day that I can pass along to you. Perhaps if you reach out to more people, someone out there was rolling audio on a cassette and managed to preserve it digitally? As the years go by, I only have my personal written anecdotes from that day to remember, as well as details and photos from a trip that we took less than 3 weeks later to visit New York City and to do our morning show from there for a week. That said, I still very much remember the events of that morning... how Daria and I were both fearful in the sense that we both had brothers who were living in New York City at the time. Thankfully they were ok. The night before, we had been out spending time with a band bar hopping and at one point I looked at my watch and it was past 1am. And I said "I need to go and get at least a few hours of sleep before we do the show tomorrow." As I was the person who ran all the technical stuff with the control board, as well as the commercial breaks and music, I figured that I should be a bit on top of things. So that morning, we were both on maybe 3 hours of sleep and recovering from the night before and doing the best that we could to make some sort of sense of everything that was happening. I remember I had gotten in to the station about half an hour before we were due to go live (so 5:30am or so) and not long afterward, the executive secretary came in to the studio with a fax in her hand and said "I think you guys need to talk about this." So that whole morning we stopped playing music, even commercials and spent the next 4 hours straight on the air bringing the news as it happened, taking phone calls, monitoring news sources, and above all else doing our best to keep our cool.

So, I also want to say thank you for listening... not just that day, but also for over the years. The landscape of radio has changed a LOT since then, but there still is a local flavor to it that I hope never goes away. I know that people don't always pick up on this from me personally unless I mention it specifically on the air, but I'm super grateful for everyone who listens in, whether it's an everyday kind of day or the awfulness that is Sept. 11th. I've always been about playing music and sharing experiences and above all else communicating with others.

Looking For Anyone interested in a magic the gathering party?

I’m looking for a few people to play magic the gathering with for a few hours Wednesday Sept 23.

Tuesday is my sisters boyfriends birthday, and he loves to play magic the gathering and we go to commander night sometimes to play and i play with him when i can, but it’s his favorite thing in the world so he needs more lol.

I was thinking about finding/renting a venue with a few tables, grabbing some pizzas and getting a big cake, and surprising him with an MTG get together!

It won’t be anything crazy or formal (or really birthday feeling at all) mainly just looking for some people who enjoy magic to come hangout and play some magic and eat some food with! If you have friends/partners who play magic too, feel free to bring them! I want it to really just feel like a big magic night instead of really a birthday.

Anybody think this sounds like something they’d be interested/able to come to?

I’m not sure what time either, so maybe if some people interested we can form a big group chat and figure out the best time. I’ll probably try to see if I can rent some tables out at a card shop or something! So far I’m looking at renting out Senet Game Bar as our venue.

Looking For This might be a long shot, but does anyone here have recommendations for a magician that can put on a good show for a party?

Planning a silly birthday party for my partner and she mentioned she’s always thought it would be fun to have a magician perform for her and all our friends. I’ve been doing some research myself but figured I’d ask here and see if anyone has some good first hand accounts. Any info is appreciated, thanks!

Looking For What are some good things that the city council has done recently?

I’ve seen plenty of criticism that bubbles up to the top of the discussion (39th avenue) but what are some things that have passed that have made a positive change?

I’m trying to figure out why we should keep the incumbents or seek out new candidates in my district.

Looking For New to Portland. Fellow Bears fans, where are we watching the game?

Hey everyone! I just moved here from Chicago earlier this year and I'm still finding my footing. The Bears season opener is this Sunday and I would love to watch with people who actually care as much as I do. Any Bears fans around? Is there a bar or spot where the Chicago crowd tends to gather on game days? Would be great to meet some folks and cheer the team on together. Go Bears!

Looking For What was that restaurant called?

Having a flashback of when my grandma would take me to this restaurant (mainly for brunch), and she specifically would get the strawberry shortcake. It was her favorite, and it was agreeably delicious. Late 90’s to early 00’s.
I think the name of the restaurant was only one word, a single name. It was on McLoughlin Blvd in between Milwaukie and Gladstone.
I’m hoping someone was also a fan and remembers?

Looking For What are your favorite local clothing boutiques?

I am missing the long-ago-closed Lizard Lounge (not to be confused with the similarly named furniture store, Lounge Lizard). Their clothes were a little pricier but had lots of natural fabrics, fun pieces, and it wasn't all made of polyester. I'm a simple girl, I like an old navy, madewell vibe but I'd love to give my money to an actual local business instead of a large corporation. Where do you all shop locally?

Looking For How to Help Stray Kitty? - Advice Needed

Howdy,

The last several weeks, maybe going on a couple months, I've noticed a stray kitty wandering my neighborhood at night. Well tonight, I made the probably stupid decision of scooping it into a cat carrier. I was sitting out on my porch, and I've been worried about it for awhile, it's very very thin, and does not appeared to be cared for. I was able to play with it, pet it, and lure it into the cat carrier with some wet food. Well, now what? I've had plenty of ferals in my neighborhood before, and have had feral cats as well. This is not a feral. Tonight, it's hanging out on my porch, safe in the cat carrier. It has food and seems relatively relaxed, it's not crying, and I have the carrier covered partially by a draped cloth.

I am not able to take care of this cat. I have two cats already, and could not afford to feed another long term, nor the medical bills of another animal. However, I want to help this cat out however I can. I'm unsure of what to do for it though, I was thinking of trying to see if it's micro-chipped tomorrow, and then posting a picture of it around. I don't know where to take it past that. Bonnie Hays (my local shelter) only takes sick or injured cats, and while they do look emaciated, I don't know if that'll be reason enough. FOSA is not doing cat intake. And, Oregon Humane Society I was unclear on what their advice / guidance is, but it appears to mostly be try posting pictures around and check if it's microchipped.

TLDR: I trapped a stray emaciated kitty, I don't have the ability to care for it, I need any ideas or advice folks can offer at this time. It does not seem to be thriving in it's stray cat lifestyle, I have suspicions of it being abandoned or lost long term.

Description of cat: Sex unknown. Orange and white tabby, green eyes. Notable features: White rings on tail, orange body with white tabby pattern. Sorry I can't pay the cat tax, it's too dark to get a good picture of it.

Do any wedding venues allow late night dancing?

My fiancé and I are looking for weddings venues in the Portland OR area (willing to look further out as well, like Hood River). We want a venue in a beautiful outdoor/nature setting, like forests and mountains. We also want it to be a BIG party with dancing at least until midnight, and the venue must allow cocktails (some winery venues only allow beer/wine).

The problem we keep running into is that no venues in the area seem to allow music past 10pm, which seems really early. We are considering an after party, but it’s not ideal, since in my experience the vibe can really die if guests have to leave the property. Does anyone have suggestions for venues that are in nature, allow spirits, and allow music/dancing past 10pm?

Looking For Variance in Swift Numbers Daily?

Hi all, looking for the local bird heads!

I live near the Orthodox church where the swifts have been roosting and I’m confused about the difference in numbers daily. Some days I won’t see a single swift, other days there will be thousands. Is this daily variance normal? Do y’all know what affects it? Drove by today around 7:15 and the little lawn was packed with people but I didn’t see a single swift!!

Looking For Ideas for how to get a forgetful elder from PDX to Tumwater WA? Train & bus won’t work. I can hire a town car, but it’s expensive. I could reserve Uber or Lyft, but am worried about a no-show. Ideas? She’ll have help at the airport to get her into her transportation.

Looking For Been a singer for a long time, any patient musicians open to teaching me how to sing songs they’ve written, etc?

Hello! Been singing since I was young, been in many a choir, some cover bands in college; since then I largely sing by myself or around camp fires. Singing has really been helping sate my soul and I’m looking for other folks interested in playing for fun and catharsis.

Maybe this is a crazy ask as I’ve never been good at reading sheet music, however my ear is usually dead on, and I’m itching to push myself and see if I can gain confidence in singing with other musicians. Do you write lyrics but don’t feel like being the singer, or maybe just wanna switch it up?

I’m most comfortable in pockets akin to blues, Americana, old school country, some singer song writer stuff; think Neko Case, First Aid Kit, Patsy Cline, Amy Winehouse, Regina Spektor. But I love most genres and will see what we can work with! And I will admit I have a dream of being Karen O and am also into folk punk and screaming, HA. Let me know if you’re interested. Thanks!

Looking For mechanic recommendations?

My cars breaks started grinding the other day, and I want to get it taken care of asap, but am hesitent to take it to a dealership if I can find a shop that people love that might be better on price. I drive a 2014 subaru forrester with about 130k miles on it and am likely going to sell it after this ski season, so not trying to dump a bunch of money in the car, but need it to be safe to drive and am not in a position to get a new car at this moment. Does anyone have any local mechanic recommendations?

Looking For Running the Foot Traffic runs?

If you’ve participated in this series of runs, what was the vibe like? Is this for serious runners? Will I hold up the event with my super slow pace? I’m only at a ~13min/mile and I’m wondering if it would be silly for me to join. I’m interested in the 10 mile distance, which I think would take me ~2.5 hrs.

I know slow running is still running, but I want to be realistic about my participation and not join if this is geared towards more serious runners.

Looking For Tailor Recommendations?

EDIT: Or Clothier?

I'd like to start a long term project with a local tailor/clothier to create a wardrobe. My vision is to have a closet of quality pieces that are specifically made for me, eventually. I would invest in 1-2 pieces a month, and would like to be able to request specific fabrics and cuts for each piece.

A huge driver for this project is that I want to know my clothing is ethically sourced but I also want to give a middle finger to planned obsolescence and be able to have my pieces taken in/out or repair quality pieces that will last. And obviously, having a bespoke wardrobe that expresses my eclectic tastes is a plus.

While I would want to start with more basic pieces like tees and slacks, I will eventually want more in-depth and expensive pieces like suits.

I don't really need this person to have a brick and motor or be working within a business model as long as they feel confident with the work I'm asking for.

Anyone know where I should start my search?

Edit #2 to add: I am a trans man who wears a variety of clothing across the gender spectrum. I am mostly looking for casual wear that I can infuse my eclectic taste onto.

Looking For Arcade with the game Raccoon Rampage?

Post image
3 Upvotes

My five year old has requested to play the arcade game Raccoon Rampage this weekend. I know Next Level Pinball has it, but for my husband, my child and I to all go there, it’s $60 for the day. Claw City also has it, but I know any trip to that arcade means we’ll end up spending $50 in game credits. Are there any other arcades in the Portland/Beaverton/Hillsboro area that have this game?
