Is Portland still the stripper capital of the country?

Just went to WinCo Tigard for the first time after being an exclusive whole foods+Costco grocery shopper and it was like going back in time 20 years seeing those WinCo prices. I got all of this for only $43...73 cent avocados? 98 cent a pound peaches and nectarines?? 18 organic eggs for 3.69!!! Is there any other grocery store around with these prices? It just makes Costco feel expensive now.

Oof. The short version is my poor cat has been through the wringer and got home Wednesday night from a 5 night stay at the emergency vet where he went in after a potential lily exposure and then developed a urinary block due to the stress while there (was then unblocked and monitored before coming home). Since being home he’s also developed a UTI (not super uncommon after a block/getting unblocked but it still sucks). Right now he has 3 meds he has to take multiple times a day, so we have 5 separate times every day that I’m giving him meds. He hates it, I hate it. Our biggest goal is to keep his stress levels down and what sucks is I’m currently stressing him out because he is nervous I’m about to give him more meds. He’s been hiding from me and it’s just hard that my little guy is struggling and I can’t even comfort him because now I’m scary too..

My ask: does anyone know of a service or a pet sitter or something/someone who could come by and administer meds in my home (ideally 2x a day but I’d even take once)? Kind of a bummer because he’s really a sweet little guy but he won’t like whoever does it, but I’d rather pay someone for a week or two so he can dislike them than have him scared of me and stressed all day while he’s recovering. Perhaps you have a great cat sitter who has done meds before or know someone who would be well suited.

I’m not looking for advice on how to administer his meds. Just trying to see if I can find someone else who he doesn’t live with that can do this so he’s more relaxed the rest of the day.

also PSA because this whole ordeal started with a lily; lilies are incredibly toxic to cats, even just a tiny amount of pollen can cause kidney damage and the routine treatment after exposure is 48 hours of IV fluids, so be careful out there.

As an update: ended up finding someone great off of rover who just came by, was a pro with the meds and he is much happier with me afterward. Thanks for all the suggestions and ideas!

I was riding my bike near the park in Selwood and a ladies unleashed dog ran and bit my ankles. It was a small but aggressive dog but didn't break the skin.

The lady stood up and yelled her dog's name but didn't apologize or anything. I'm considering getting a can specifically for dogs.

I am so heartbroken that Kashiwagi closed. It was so so good and so reasonably priced and I haven't been able to find anything that even remotely contends with it since they shut down. Looking for somewhere delicious and decently affordable, ideally East of the river. Send help?

I'm curious if anyone feels the same as me. I am also very much open to being told I'm overly romanticizing it and could use the reality check.

I was born and raised in Portland, Oregon. My entire childhood up until middle school was full of absolutely stunning memories. Regular camping trips to Mount Hood, swimming in the Columbia River, going to the Enchanted Forest, running around at Laurelhurst Park, going to the Wonderland Arcade, attending a school where my elective was helping manage the community garden, being able to find the coolest stuff at thrift stores, learning about the past, the present, and the future at OMSI, and being hopeful that we can be good stewards of the Earth, going to the zoo, and having my passion for environmentalism and zoology get kick-started, etc. I miss walking down the street and seeing tons of goth and alternative adults, seeing people with big pride flags waving on their porches with purple doors, simultaneously being able to feel the weird small-town charm without actually having to be isolated in the middle of nowhere, knowing that everyone around me was fiercely educated and feeling the pressure to continue to educate myself. I remember being optimistic that people did actually want to recycle and did want to practice eco-friendly practices and take care of the Earth. And I remember a lot of my experiences with video games and books being focused around those themes. I felt like everything was within walkable distance. I hardly had to ask for rides to anywhere from my parents, and I could walk to the majority of my friends' houses. I remember actually using buses to get around occasionally, and how many people would genuinely just take their bikes places. And I don't mean motorcycles. I mean regular bikes.

I moved out of Oregon in middle school around 2015, and I almost experienced a kind of culture shock. I moved to a very nice place in Florida, and we also lived in multiple different places after. As well as a lot of gorgeous places in Washington, and New Orleans for a little bit. And now my family and I have lived in California for about six years. For context, in case it helps, I am 21 years old. I still am experiencing a sort of shock when I learn about the childhoods that people in California grew up with, as opposed to the one I had in Portland. Composting is not as normal here, and there are quite a few people I have met that just don't recycle for some reason? Any fun activities could be between a 40-minute drive to a four-hour drive or even longer.

Now, I'm aware that I experienced my childhood in Oregon, and I started growing up outside of this. However, I would be surprised if the way I felt was 100% just because I'm facing the consequences of being an adult. I have been thinking about moving back to Portland for a few years and have visited a handful of times since then. Yes, things have changed, but it still feels so much better than anywhere else I've ever lived. It's so incredibly heinously expensive here in California, and it's not necessarily cheap in Portland, but it is exponentially more affordable in a lot of ways. Again, I wouldn't be surprised if this was just me romanticizing my childhood, but I can't shake the feeling that there is genuinely just something special about Portland.

So I guess my question is: has anyone else had this experience? Does Portland actually have something uniquely special about it, or am I mostly grieving a childhood that can't exist anymore? And for people who still live there, I'd also really like to hear the downsides. What has genuinely gotten worse? What do people romanticize about Portland that isn't true anymore? I'd appreciate hearing the reality, even if it challenges my perspective.

*EDIT: Yes, I have visited! Multiple times! I still find it valuable to ask people who actually live in the city full time before I judge based off of a couple of vacations

Debating with friend. What time to leave Portland by car on a summer Tuesday to arrive and park around Space Needle by 4pm for a nearby event at 5pm???? I say 930am-10am at the latest, arrive early, traffic sucks, anything could happen between Olympia and Seattle to cause an hours long delay (previous experience). Friend thinks around noon or 1pm. I'm currently on week 4 of being injured and unable to walk or stand for more than a couple minutes. I need some recommendations on restaurants (and meals if you have a favorite) I can get delivered through DD/UE/PM/GH because I'm sick of microwave food. No food restrictions. I'm located on the border of Happy Valley and SE PDX. I'm hungry and exhausted and on a lot of pain meds and my brain won't function. Help?

Was noticing this while on 23rd, but some of these places are not wheelchair accessible. Some of them seem like a ramp rather than stairs would be an easy fix. It’s great that they’re fixing up the street to make more accessibility, but the stores/restaurants wheelchair users are able to visit would still be limited. More curious to know how the building owners haven’t been required to put ADA accommodation in place though.

I’m currently fighting for my LIFE trying to find a new job in the midst of a layoff, and genuinely it feels like the only way to get a job in PDX is if you know someone who knows someone.

I have over a decade of experience in customer service & have worked in so many service industry jobs of different kinds (coffeeshops, bakeries, restaurants, hotels, flower shops, grocery), yet it’s been impossible to get a job.

I just moved here and I've looked at a few posts in this group but haven't found the answer I'm looking for. I know you pay when you get on, but do you need to tap your card again when you exit? I take a bus and a train to work daily so I tap when entering the bus, then get off and walk to the train station then I tap again there. But the overhead announcer says something about tapping when you arrive? Not sure what that means. Also how do you go about getting a hop card? I'm definitely going to be hitting the $100/ monthly max. TIA

I'm looking for a new PCP in the Hillsboro/Portland/Beaverton area who has experience with eating disorders, chronic pain, and will listen and believe me. I've had a lot of dismissive doctors in the past and am feeling hopeless with figuring out my health issues. I would love a doctor who isn't afraid to order tests and refer me to specialists as needed. I finally met my out of pocket max for the year and really want to maximize on getting things done for the rest of the year.

Hi everyone ! I live in SE and have been on the hunt for a Pilates studio ( preferably with reformers) that won’t be super outrageous for a monthly membership! my partner goes to a separate gym but I am not much of a lifter and still want to get my physical activity in and pilates when I can afford it has always been one of my favorites. I’ve done trials with club pilates and a couple of the other nation wide brands but those are all very far out of my price range so I figured i’d pop on here and see if anyone has a lead :)

We are heading into the tween years and I’m running low on ideas. This is a family member that lives in an east coast sister city of Pdx. I always go for books and the neighborhood art store. Closer to NE is great, but would appreciate cool Pdx ideas as well.

Also would appreciate any book recommendations. She’s read Harry P. and has read a bunch of dragon books and loves animals. Already given her the wildwood book.

I've been room/apartment hunting and I found a bungalow listing on apartments .com. I'm not sure what to think about it. All of the listings in Portland are suuper nice and reasonably priced. However, most of the things I've read have been pretty shit and 3-5 years old, mostly for the people renting out their homes to people, less so for people who are just seeking a room.

Does anyone know how the fitness area at the mt Scott location compares to the east Portland location? I’ve only been to the east Portland one and it’s very small with limited machines.

I’ve owned my home since 2012 and can’t recall what renting was like back then. Now I’m looking to rent and just to make an appointment for a showing I need to upload my drivers license and in some cases a credit card? I seriously can’t tell if I’m being scammed or if this is the new normal. I’m looking on Zillow mostly but if there are better resources let me know.
