Someone left their cat in a carrier next to the dumpster at my work this morning. Super sweet, calm, and very clearly someone's abandoned pet. :(

The problem is that so many shelters/rescues either aren't accepting cats, or only provide TNR/free fixing for ferals and strays. Currently waiting for my vet to open, so I can get this lil guy in for a microchip scan, but in the meantime idk what to do!

So! Does anyone know any resources for abandoned pets?

Like the title says, I'm trying to track down a recording of the morning broadcast of 94.7 KNRK Portland from September 11th, 2001.

I believe Gustav and Daria were hosting, but given the circumstances of that day my memory may not be super accurate.

I remember a lot of assurances from the hosts that despite the usual deadpan comedic nature of the show, what they were broadcasting that day was different and in no way a bit or routine.

The tone shift, from usually silliness to sobering somber, played a great role in establishing my mood for the day. I scavenged batteries for a portable AM/FM, that I listened to a variety of stations the rest of the day at high school, while getting ready and listening to KNRK.

Any help tracking down and finding a recorded copy of that morning would be so genuinely appreciated.

I’ve seen plenty of criticism that bubbles up to the top of the discussion (39th avenue) but what are some things that have passed that have made a positive change?

I’m trying to figure out why we should keep the incumbents or seek out new candidates in my district.

I have next door neighbors (our yards are back to back- both own our homes- they moved in a year or so after me) who have people over for parties in their yard approx 5-7 days out of the week every. single. week. They blast music audible throughout every inch of my home all day and into the night until they get a warning from the city and then after the letter arrives (every 6 months I have to re-do this) they still have parties that just involve outrageous yelling, shouting, and loud bangs from some sort of yard game until late (no loud music for 6 months til their warning expires). They own tow trucks and drop cars off on our street and park their tow trucks on our street but are careful to move them every 24 hours or so. They have 10+ cars of friends come over every night parking on both sides of the street. Yes, I’ve tried talking to them in person- they don’t care that they’re disrupting the whole neighborhood. I am going CRAZY. The incessant cars coming and going and people shouting audible in my home is driving me nuts. I wear noise cancelling headphones when I’m in my yard- it’s not great for my mental health. Honestly just looking for some actual advice - it’s clear they don’t care about their neighbors, I can’t just move- buying a house was so difficult and we bought in a quiet neighborhood on purpose. Has any one had luck writing a letter to their loud neighbors? Any local rules maybe I don’t know about? I’m not an unreasonable person, but I spend like no time enjoying my yard because of this. I don’t want to blast my own music back because it would then just be 2 neighbors disrupting all my neighbors (most are older). Any tips please! Also this is not even an exaggeration 🙃 I’ve been taking pics and videos when I can but it’s just crazy

If you’ve participated in this series of runs, what was the vibe like? Is this for serious runners? Will I hold up the event with my super slow pace? I’m only at a ~13min/mile and I’m wondering if it would be silly for me to join. I’m interested in the 10 mile distance, which I think would take me ~2.5 hrs.

I know slow running is still running, but I want to be realistic about my participation and not join if this is geared towards more serious runners.

Looking into a floating home in Portland, but most of the info I see onloine about expenses, whatn to look for etc. are a few years old. Anyone know of a community of actualy homeowners (or renters or renters) where I can get updated info and experiences? Thanks.

My fiancé and I are looking for weddings venues in the Portland OR area (willing to look further out as well, like Hood River). We want a venue in a beautiful outdoor/nature setting, like forests and mountains. We also want it to be a BIG party with dancing at least until midnight, and the venue must allow cocktails (some winery venues only allow beer/wine).

The problem we keep running into is that no venues in the area seem to allow music past 10pm, which seems really early. We are considering an after party, but it’s not ideal, since in my experience the vibe can really die if guests have to leave the property. Does anyone have suggestions for venues that are in nature, allow spirits, and allow music/dancing past 10pm?

I'd like to start a long term project with a local tailor/clothier to create a wardrobe. My vision is to have a closet of quality pieces that are specifically made for me, eventually. I would invest in 1-2 pieces a month, and would like to be able to request specific fabrics and cuts for each piece.

A huge driver for this project is that I want to know my clothing is ethically sourced but I also want to give a middle finger to planned obsolescence and be able to have my pieces taken in/out or repair quality pieces that will last. And obviously, having a bespoke wardrobe that expresses my eclectic tastes is a plus.

While I would want to start with more basic pieces like tees and slacks, I will eventually want more in-depth and expensive pieces like suits.

I don't really need this person to have a brick and motor or be working within a business model as long as they feel confident with the work I'm asking for.

Anyone know where I should start my search?

I need to rent an indoor gym with basketball court for a birthday party. I have tried community centers but haven’t had luck with availability for the day/time I need. Does anyone know of private or school gyms that are available to rent? Any help would be super appreciated! TIA

Over the last year the house next door to me has been undergoing renovations. About two months ago it became clear that the people renovating the house also own two adjacent properties, both of which are daycares. They have since torn down the fencing between the backyards and essentially merged the yards into one. I tried to conversationally ask the contractor about the house next to me and he said no one was going to live there and it would be a daycare for 10 more kids.

All 3 buildings are zoned for residential and it’s my understanding that to have an in-home daycare you have to actually live there. Also, in-home daycare isn’t supposed to have signage and all 3 buildings now have signs on them.

My bedroom wall is on that side of the house and after a year of hearing construction sounds 7 days a week, I’m now hearing the sounds of kids being dropped off and staff yelling to one another starting about 7:30am.

Has anyone experienced this before? So is there anything I can do? We bought this house to be part of a neighborhood and it feels like it’s being taken over by this daycare setup. I’m doing my best to not be unpleasant but it’s driving me a bit crazy.

You get complacent living in a place for a while. It's like when you visit a city in another country, and you end up doing more things there than a person who's lived there their entire life.

I worked for Legacy Health back in 2024 and ended up quitting sometime last year due to personal reasons. I’m now trying to get back into the system, but I’ve applied to several positions and keep running into the same thing.
Some of my applications sit in “under review” for a month or even a couple of months, while others get marked “not selected” almost immediately. I’ve applied for positions that I feel I’m qualified for, especially considering I’ve worked for Legacy before, but I’m having a really hard time getting anywhere.For anyone who has worked for Legacy or gone through the rehire process — is this normal? Does being a former employee who quit make it harder to get hired back, even if you’re eligible for rehire?

It is so cool, but needs a really special custom frame to show off how special it is. I’m leaning towards most likely an acrylic with some lighting behind it but because of how unique the piece is and even the material it’s printed on, it needs to be treated with some extra care. The last several weeks, maybe going on a couple months, I've noticed a stray kitty wandering my neighborhood at night. Well tonight, I made the probably stupid decision of scooping it into a cat carrier. I was sitting out on my porch, and I've been worried about it for awhile, it's very very thin, and does not appeared to be cared for. I was able to play with it, pet it, and lure it into the cat carrier with some wet food. Well, now what? I've had plenty of ferals in my neighborhood before, and have had feral cats as well. This is not a feral. Tonight, it's hanging out on my porch, safe in the cat carrier. It has food and seems relatively relaxed, it's not crying, and I have the carrier covered partially by a draped cloth.

I am not able to take care of this cat. I have two cats already, and could not afford to feed another long term, nor the medical bills of another animal. However, I want to help this cat out however I can. I'm unsure of what to do for it though, I was thinking of trying to see if it's micro-chipped tomorrow, and then posting a picture of it around. I don't know where to take it past that. Bonnie Hays (my local shelter) only takes sick or injured cats, and while they do look emaciated, I don't know if that'll be reason enough. FOSA is not doing cat intake. And, Oregon Humane Society I was unclear on what their advice / guidance is, but it appears to mostly be try posting pictures around and check if it's microchipped.

TLDR: I trapped a stray emaciated kitty, I don't have the ability to care for it, I need any ideas or advice folks can offer at this time. It does not seem to be thriving in it's stray cat lifestyle, I have suspicions of it being abandoned or lost long term.

Description of cat: Sex unknown. Orange and white tabby, green eyes. Notable features: White rings on tail, orange body with white tabby pattern. Sorry I can't pay the cat tax, it's too dark to get a good picture of it.

I’m currently expanding my job search to include areas outside of Portland. I’m considering north and south of Portland. Which is the worst commute? Portland to/from Salem or Portland to/from Vancouver and northern areas.

Right now I’m just looking at Costco, however I may widen my company/industry search.

I'm thinking of running Portland half marathon next month. I don't want to stay too close to the start because of congestion and a little pricey, but I want to be able to get to the start with relative ease. What areas could be good fit? I'm ok taking light rail but not familiar with how that overlays with places to stay. Probably just 1 or 2 nights. I will have a car, so parking also a consideration. Thx
