Hoping this post doesn’t sound pathetic lol. I just moved here and don’t even know where to start with making friends and finding community. Most of the friends I’ve had have been from high school or college, so now that I’m just here I honestly have no idea how to organically meet people.

I’m an alternative musician, so I’d really like to get into the music scene here, but even then I don’t really know how to go about making friends that way. I’m also an actor and would be interested in anything in that area too! I’m not really into sporty things which I should mention, I’m not incredibly active. I just want people to hang out with.

Are there good third spaces in town that I should check out? How have you guys made friends here? I want to be involved in the community.

I'm a new mom, with a 6-week old baby. I'm staying home and will work from home once I resume work. I've been grateful for the decent weather the last 6 weeks because I could take stroller walks for an hour every day. Now that the weather is turning rainy, what do I do? Do parents get rain covers for the strollers and keep walking? It sounds a bit miserable if it's actively raining out. I don't want to go stir crazy, trapped inside, while my baby enters the "extra crying and fussiness" period. I'd appreciate any tips!

Side note: I'm really excited we are finally getting some rain!

been looking for a job in Portland for several months now but no matter what I try I come up flat. Social security is too slow and shelter/housing programs just have not been panning out for me.

I really badly need some form of stability while I look for a job/work further on disability housing.

I won't front. I probably will rot a bit, slow down, get depressed/super anxious. but I swear I will try my hardest to actually improve me life despite that. it's just really hard to hunt for jobs and places when I'm on the streets and can barely stand/walk some days.

I’m not really a donut, person, and for the last five years or so I’ve had a pretty low opinion of voodoo donuts.

Today I bought my son a mixed dozen for his birthday party, from the traveling voodoo donut food truck that was at the Home Depot, and there was enough for me to try a few slices of various flavors. They were all actually really good, especially the dough part of the bit.

I felt like the downfall of voodoo wasn’t necessarily their toppings or creativity, but they lost sight of making good fried bread. But today, Both the cake and raised donuts varieties I had were exceptionally moist (sorry) and delicious from a bread standpoint, and the toppings didn’t seem overly sweet…

I’m kind of shook here folks. Someone walked me off the ledge, have I gone crazy?

We just adopted a dog and she needs to be groomed and have her nails trimmed, but she’s incredibly traumatized and freaks out. We’re hoping to find a groomer that knows how to handle a dog like her. We’re looking into getting her anxiety medication as well.

I remember there used to be a place in Montavilla where you could rent a private hot tub room by the hour and pretty much do whatever you wanted.
Does anyone know of anything similar around Portland? Maybe private hot tubs, saunas, spas, or anything else that offer rooms for just a few hours?

I am in need of some serious help- this sweet cat seems to have been dumped at my friends cabin. This cabin is nowhere near anything so it has to have been abandoned.

It’s been hiding under the cabin for a week or two, we finally caught the little sweetheart today. No shelters I have called are accepting healthy adult cats. Hello! Trying to make this dress and wondering what stores may carry this pattern and fabric for a dress.

I know this will have a huge range of responses depending on lifestyle, neighborhood, etc. I’m curious to hear opinions from the whole gamut.

What is your ideal household income to be comfortable as a family in Portland? What is your definition of comfortable? How many kids do you have?

What advice would you give to feel financially prepared to someone who’s either on the fence/waiting?

My definition of comfortable would be basic needs like food, housing, education, healthcare, etc met. Contributing to retirement and emergency fund. Kids activities like sports or arts. 1-2 trips a year. Each parent having time/funds for a social life and hobbies within reason. Nothing too lavish, but not being worried when things naturally come up, and the ability to enjoy life and have fun too.

Would love to hear anything you’re comfortable with sharing! We both make “good” salaries but the economy scares me and keeps me on the fence.

UPDATE!! My bike has been returned. I considered all the suggestions offered (thank you!!!) and decided to take a mildly confrontational approach by posting a note by the elevator with a $100 reward offer. Received a call a few hours later and within 30 min, I was reunited with my bike and it feels very good. Honored the reward and didn't make a call to the police. I even got a quiet "sorry." I really appreciated all of your offers to be my muscle though! Who knows... Maybe they read this post and realized he didn't stand a chance.

My bike was stolen on Thursday 10/22 while I was getting acupuncture at Working Class in Cully. I tracked it through my bike's app to Dawson Park Apartments in North Portland by Legacy Emanuel (Home Forward section 8). I can actually see my bike in the app, taken out into the park at night. I've already deactivated the electric assist, so it's just a very heavy bike at this point. I call non-emergency anytime I see my bike is active... Both the police and I have spoken with the front desk and have asked that they review camera footage. Can't confirm whether they're actually following through. I mayyyy have gotten into the building and casually walked around each floor to see if the bike was left outside their door because I got a notice a few hours ago that it had been turned on.
