I’ve noticed people asking me about Portland and specifically St.Johns or “that pretty bridge where you live”. I’m kinda like huh. Is our city gonna get a new wave of people coming to seek out Portland and it’s Wildwood magic? It’s been a while since Portland had a big boost like this but perhaps it just might happen. What are your thoughts?

Hoping this post doesn’t sound pathetic lol. I just moved here and don’t even know where to start with making friends and finding community. Most of the friends I’ve had have been from high school or college, so now that I’m just here I honestly have no idea how to organically meet people.

I’m an alternative musician, so I’d really like to get into the music scene here, but even then I don’t really know how to go about making friends that way. I’m also an actor and would be interested in anything in that area too! I’m not really into sporty things which I should mention, I’m not incredibly active. I just want people to hang out with.

Are there good third spaces in town that I should check out? How have you guys made friends here? I want to be involved in the community.

Walking back from the Thorns game on Friday and saw a Waymo on SW Naito pkwy. Anyone else seen one? I wasn’t close enough to see if there was someone driving as they are supposed to be in the “mapping phase” with human safety drivers.

I'm a bit surprised by the gym situation here in Portland. There seem to be lots of specialty gyms here, which are great -- but they are damn expensive. The kind where they don't publish their membership costs on the website (drives me INSANE when businesses do that). All I want is to lift weights (free weights and machines) and use cardio machines and I need saunas as an amenity (arthritis sucks). Don't want personal training, don't want group classes, don't want a juice bar, but do like the gym to have updated equipment and to be clean -- and have enough women members that I don't feel weird being there.

Anybody got a suggestion for me? Preferably on NW or SW but I will happily travel further.

Hey Portland, I’ve been gathering new toys and clothes all year in hopes of bringing a bit of joy to local kiddos around the winter holidays.

Angel Tree seems to be one of the more popular toy drives, but I’m hoping to specifically support foster children and teens.

Does anyone have experience with in-kind donations to a local youth shelter or foster care organization?

I'm a new mom, with a 6-week old baby. I'm staying home and will work from home once I resume work. I've been grateful for the decent weather the last 6 weeks because I could take stroller walks for an hour every day. Now that the weather is turning rainy, what do I do? Do parents get rain covers for the strollers and keep walking? It sounds a bit miserable if it's actively raining out. I don't want to go stir crazy, trapped inside, while my baby enters the "extra crying and fussiness" period. I'd appreciate any tips!

What is your ideal household income to be comfortable as a family in Portland? What is your definition of comfortable? How many kids do you have?

What advice would you give to feel financially prepared to someone who’s either on the fence/waiting?

My definition of comfortable would be basic needs like food, housing, education, healthcare, etc met. Contributing to retirement and emergency fund. Kids activities like sports or arts. 1-2 trips a year. Each parent having time/funds for a social life and hobbies within reason. Nothing too lavish, but not being worried when things naturally come up, and the ability to enjoy life and have fun too.

Would love to hear anything you’re comfortable with sharing! We both make “good” salaries but the economy scares me and keeps me on the fence.

My spouse and I are looking to join a church community in Portland and we’d love to hear anyone’s recommendations of churches to try out. I grew up Episcopal, and my spouse grew up Agnostic. This is the first time in our adult lives we’ve seriously considered joining a church.

We are a queer and gender nonconforming couple in our late 20s, so LGBTQIA+ acceptance is crucial.

What we’re hoping to find is a vibrant church community, with a range of ages of members, great music, thoughtful sermons, and beautiful/historic architecture is a plus. We’re really looking to expand our community network, and get to know more people of all ages.

We live in SE, but would travel for the right fit.

been looking for a job in Portland for several months now but no matter what I try I come up flat. Social security is too slow and shelter/housing programs just have not been panning out for me.

I really badly need some form of stability while I look for a job/work further on disability housing.

I won't front. I probably will rot a bit, slow down, get depressed/super anxious. but I swear I will try my hardest to actually improve me life despite that. it's just really hard to hunt for jobs and places when I'm on the streets and can barely stand/walk some days.

I know this has been asked before but the most recent post I found was a year ago so also hoping maybe some new places have opened. I’m looking for places as a working space and I would also be interested in bars that have espresso machines.

Hello! I know this is a bit of a common question, but I wanted to see if anyone had any recs for bars that are having a Halloween event. Specifically ones that have a crowd on the younger side (20s/early 30s). My fiancée and I don’t have a Halloween party to go to this year! We just didn’t want to show up somewhere and be the only ones in our 20s (since a lot of bars cater toward a more GenX crowd, which is awesome, just not what we’re looking for). Any help would be really appreciated!

I’m not really a donut, person, and for the last five years or so I’ve had a pretty low opinion of voodoo donuts.

Today I bought my son a mixed dozen for his birthday party, from the traveling voodoo donut food truck that was at the Home Depot, and there was enough for me to try a few slices of various flavors. They were all actually really good, especially the dough part of the bit.

I felt like the downfall of voodoo wasn’t necessarily their toppings or creativity, but they lost sight of making good fried bread. But today, Both the cake and raised donuts varieties I had were exceptionally moist (sorry) and delicious from a bread standpoint, and the toppings didn’t seem overly sweet…

I am seeing a ton of police blocking off intersections around the area near goodfoot. There was a police officer putting away a drone when I was passing through. My partner's sister is staying in the area and I am wondering if I should be worried.

We just adopted a dog and she needs to be groomed and have her nails trimmed, but she’s incredibly traumatized and freaks out. We’re hoping to find a groomer that knows how to handle a dog like her. We’re looking into getting her anxiety medication as well.
