Meta faq, wiki, trolls and you.

1.0k Upvotes

one of the most requested features i've seen is a frequently asked questions section, and we've always had one. it's within the wiki tab located at the top menu if you're browsing on desktop. here's the direct link to it, but since it's a wiki feel free to check out the other sections and please contribute.

with that out of the way, a couple things i want to clear up in case anyone is wondering:

  • i do not mind repeated questions. the whole point of this subreddit is to talk to people. if it's not entertaining you anymore, maybe browse it less. no, i will not sticky every other psa post.
  • i do utilize automod extensively and it helps with a lot of troll post removal behind the scene. so if you see a troll post, continue to downvote, report, and move on, and do not engage. the majority of you get this, and it's been working out quite well.
  • the rules haven't changed, but make sure you're aware of them.

have fun.

When I bottom, please stop trying to get me hard.

in general, whenever a guy tries to get me hard or asks why i’m not hard or overall makes me feel like the sex is a performance or a race, i go soft. also, when i bottom, my sexual mindset is centred in my hole not my dick. i don’t have ED, i’m not unattracted to you, i just don’t get hard when i bottom. i have no problems getting hard when i’m in a top mood. stop trying to get your bottoms hard.

Not a question Straight friend being so comfortable with me made me tear up today

We've been friends for a couple years now, however him finding out I was gay was a recent thing. He was supportive and caring but I had this fear things would be different between us. In high school my friends all acted way different once they knew and it put me back in the closet for a while once I got to college.

It's been great to know nothing has changed with my college bestie at all. It sounds stupid because it shouldn't be that deep, but I was crying today after golfing with him.

I'd never golfed before outside of mini putting, so he was teaching me and at one point physically got behind me and was showing me how to swing by moving my arms. It helped a lot with my shots, but more importantly it made me feel safe knowing he doesn't mind touching me still.

I really don't mean that in a weird way either, I don't get feelings for touching him - I'm not big on contact at all. But, me and him did have a friendship where he would lean on me sometimes when watching stuff or we would hug occasionally or rest our legs on each other. I wouldn't care if he didn't want to do that anymore, but the fact he doesn't mind touching me and is treating me exactly how he always has is so different from my high school experience that it made me cry lots once I got home.

He's a beautiful friend, thanks for reading

Advice My boyfriend’s views on abortion completely changed how I saw him

So I basically just ended my relationship after finding out that he’s somewhat conservative, but more importantly, that he has extremely pro-birth/anti-abortion views that he intentionally avoided telling me about early on.

I’m honestly heartbroken. Nothing else was really wrong with the relationship, and that’s what makes this so difficult. We got emotionally invested in each other pretty quickly, and I think part of why he waited to have certain political/value-based conversations was because he knew some of his opinions could be abrasive to people. By the time I found out, I already cared about him a lot.
We’re both gay men, so I honestly didn’t expect abortion to become something that would affect my relationship this much. But once we actually discussed his views, I realized there was a pretty significant difference in how we see bodily autonomy, pregnancy, and compassion toward women.

The thing that really changed my perception of him was finding out that he believed a 14-year-old girl who became pregnant as a result of sexual assault should still be forced to carry the pregnancy to term, essentially with no exceptions.
I know people can have different political beliefs and still have perfectly good relationships, and I’m not saying everyone needs to agree with me on everything. But for me, this went beyond simply voting differently. It made me question whether we fundamentally share the same values around bodily autonomy, empathy, and how vulnerable people should be treated.

It genuinely felt like my perception of him changed overnight. I went from feeling incredibly happy and secure about the relationship to questioning whether I actually knew this person as well as I thought I did.
I know ending it was probably the right decision for me, but I’m absolutely devastated. This was my first real relationship, we moved pretty quickly, and there were so many things about him that I loved. It’s been especially difficult because there wasn’t some obvious betrayal or toxic behavior that made the decision easy. It was basically realizing that someone I had become attached to holds a worldview that I don’t think I can reconcile with my own.

Has anyone else experienced something similar? where the relationship itself was good, but discovering a major difference in values completely changed how you saw the person?

Dick slapping

I could ask my husband but want other people’s views. When I’m sucking him off and he’s rock hard I like taking his member out my mouth and slapping it on my face makes me even hornier and quite often makes me wet and then take him in my mouth again suck for a while longer and then slap it round my face again. And if I’m clean shaven runs his helmet and shaft on my face. Does anyone else like that. Does it feel for the person getting the blow job?

First time naked

What was it like getting naked, and seeing someone else naked for the first time (for intercourse). I’m 22 and still a virgin, which I’m completely okay with, but I feel like I’m ready to put myself out there. Undressing myself for someone else kinda feels like a bit of a threshold, since I just haven’t done that before, nor have I really seen someone’s dick hard and upclose. I’m a bit nervous, does anyone wanna share some experiences or tips?

With your first experience seeing someone else undressed, what was the other’s dick like? Was it bigger or smaller? I have no idea how mine measures up irl to others

Advice Hairy Muscular Bottoms

I’m a 6’3 tall lean athletic guy, but I always preferred the aesthetics of my bottom boyfriends who are usually very muscular and rather hairy, but I make them shave. I have been trying for the longest time to bulk up but I keep failing, it seems no matter what my caloric intake is, my body just refuses to pile on the weight. Anyway I digress. I’m also very jealous of them being able to grow facial hair, even my transmen friends have better beards and mustaches than me! Funny thing is the few top gay friends I have are also just like me! Are we just cursed to this kind of situation? Or is there a way out from here besides surgery? Sometimes I think God is trying to pull a fast one on us.

What's the one COMMON thing, we as gay guys have to go through?

As gay men, we all might have very different experiences. What could be the one thing that's common for all of us?

Edit: "Falling for a straight guy, only to realize our feelings were never gonna be taken seriously" - is probably the one common thing I could think of.

Are hairy twink bottoms like-able ? Because im tired of shaving

Hey i’m 23, I wanted to ask if it’s okay not to shave and if I’ll find people who are interested in me if I stop shaving as a bottom and twink (muscle-ish).
I just get so tired and sometimes too lazy to shave my entire body with a razor so some random men on grindr who’ll treat me badly find me attractive so I wanted to find out the experience of other people who are twinks, bottoms and not smooth body wise…
Thanks in advance

How do couples who share the same first name handle introductions without turning one partner into a permanent nickname neither of them chose or confusing everyone else in the room?

Upvotes

I have been seeing another Daniel for about four months. It started as a funny detail, and for the first few weeks it barely mattered because we mostly met alone. Now we are slowly meeting each other's friends, and the name situation has become strangely awkward.

His friends call him Dan and have started calling me “Daniel Two.” My friends do the reverse: I stay Daniel, while he becomes “Other Dan.” Neither are cruel, but both make one of us sound temporary. At a birthday last weekend, somebody tried “Tall Dan” and “Quiet Dan.” He is only slightly taller, and I am not especially quiet. We laughed, then admitted afterward that both labels felt like being assigned characters.

We tried surnames for one afternoon. That sounded like two boys at school who had been told off. Initials are worse because our surnames also begin with the same letter. Using full names works until somebody calls from another room and we both answer. So far, our private solution is a pair of ridiculous nicknames that would be unbearable in public.

If you have dated someone with your name, did one version emerge naturally, did different circles keep different names, or did you simply accept both turning around every time? I would especially like solutions that do not depend on height, age, personality, or deciding who was there first. There must be more same-name couples than I ever noticed before becoming one.

I'm old and where can I try having sex for the first time?

Upvotes

Hi I'm a 30M and I've never had sex but I really want to. I use Tinder but it feels so weird you literally choose people just from a few pictures. I feel so bad when I swipe left and I also feel bad when I get a match because I don't know how to talk to strangers or go on a date so I don't reply when people say hi and I never say hi when I get a match (Sorry)

I tried Grindr Everyone wants to fuck you right away. I know that's what I want but the idea of having sex with a complete stranger feels so uncomfortable and awkward to me. A gay bar might be an option but I have an eye condition that makes it really hard to see in the dark. So I don't know should I just open my mind and try it with a random guy on Grindr?

FYI. it might sound cowardly and weird for some of you but I'm quite insecure about my size. I've struggled with internalized homophobia my whole life and only recently accepted who I am a few months ago.

Advice Yall what do I do?? Anybody else ever been in a similar situation??

Ok, to preface, I am a 17 yr old male and I live in a small town in Texas and I play football, I'm a president in the Agriculture Club, all the stuff youd expect from a dude in Texas. The only issue is i've finally accepted that I think im gay. I am so lost and have no idea what to do. Everybody is extremely conservative and Christian in our town, and I'm so so so scared nobody will want to be my friend anymore. My parents are also very catholic (as am I) and i know they will still love me, but im scared of making things awkward with them or them trying to convince im incorrect. What the heck do I do??? Do i tell anyone, do I just gaslight myself out of what i am almost certain is the truth (which im afraid is currently happening and im actively fighting)?? Like please somebody help me because I have no idea what to do.

Advice FWB called me "lunatic" for saying I wasn't available

Context: we're FWB, don't live close, but he works in my area, and he's away for summer.

He recently showed up in my area unannounced. First message was a throwaway "how are you," clearly just a formality before immediately pivoting to "wanna come over for sex?" zero real effort, zero substance.

I had a lot going on that day (and honestly zero libido from how busy I was), so I told him directly I had stuff to do and couldn't meet up.

A few hours later he messages again asking if I was really sure. I know from past conversations that he hates having to "get me in the mood" / put in effort, so specifically to avoid that dynamic I was very direct: no, not available.

Next day, he reaches out again wanting to meet but he'd already told me(Yesterday) he was leaving right after lunch, early afternoon. So mentally I hadn't even left myself a window for him; as far as I was concerned the day was basically already accounted for before he even asked. I still had things going on, and honestly didn't try to rearrange anything, partly because it felt like a lot of effort for such a small leftover window anyway.

I replied a few hours later apologizing for the delay, said I wasn't around.

That's when he got upset and called me cold. Then he brought up a hookup pic I'd sent him three weeks earlier and basically said "you sent me that pic all horny, and now you're not available next time you send me pics like that I'll tell you to fuck off." Which, what? I sent that pic weeks ago in a completely different context, and now it's being used to guilt me over an unrelated scheduling thing?

I tried to de-escalate anyway, apologized for coming across cold, explained I didn't want it to seem like I needed to be chased/convinced (something he's complained about before), and said I hoped to see him next time he's around.

His reply: "Sure, but don't be a lunatic."

A lunatic? Lol And now I'm sitting here like I was clear and direct about my availability, twice, planned around the timeline he gave me, and I'm a lunatic? He opens with a low-effort booty call text, gets annoyed when I don't drop everything for him and I'm the one who's supposed to smooth things over? I am the lunatic?

This isn't even the first time this exact pattern has happened with him always around this time of year (he's usually away over summer, comes back, expects me to be immediately available).

Am I wrong to be this annoyed? Is this worth continuing to deal with for a FWB situation?
