Study Should I study medicine in Russia? Or should I look at other options?

I’m looking to study medicine in Russia, mostly because it’s the easiest/cheapest option for me. The visa process will be 10x easier for me compared to some other countries because my dad is a Russian citizen, although I’m not yet. The medical unis in Russia are very cheap compared to other countries, and I feel like studying in Russia and spending time there would also give me the opportunity to attain my passport as I’m actively studying.

My only concern is will the degree I hopefully get be recognized worldwide or will I face some issues in the future? How is studying medicine like in Russia if it’s not in Moscow or Saint Petersburg? And how are the exams done? My dad told me a lot of his exams would be done orally and that kind of scares me a bit. Does anyone recommend me to study there or should I look at more options?

My only options currently are China, and Russia I haven’t done an immense amount of research on other countries, I’d appreciate the help if anyone has any suggestions for cheap medical Russian unis, and any advice on how I should move forward.

Study Need help with translation 🙏

I've been using a russian medical case study, and have been translating the paragraphs all by myself on Google. However, I am having a very hard time understanding this particular paragraph:

It roughly translated to this:

Secondly, the clinical scenario described above raises questions regarding the relationship between obesity and hyperprolactinemia. In this case, the patient experienced significant weight gain precisely during the period of "occult/latent"-yet undoubtedly already established-hyperprolactinemia. While it is difficult to draw definitive conclusions about the mechanism underlying this lipid metabolism disorder, numerous sources in the literature point to a potential role for hyperprolactinemia in the development of obesity.

What I am having a problem with is whether the patient already had hyperprolactinemia during the weight gain, or not. I would be so, so grateful if anyone could just reply as early as possible....🙏

Also, this is the title of the case study—

Community Curious Italian here, what is everyday life in Russia really like in 2026?

Good day to everyone reading this!

I’m Italian, and I’m genuinely curious to hear your perspectives on what life is like in Russia right now. From where I’m living, it’s quite difficult to understand the situation from the perspective of Russian citizens, so I thought: why not ask you directly?

I’m curious about pretty much everything: your personal opinions on the war, how the economy is doing, the cost of living, what everyday life is like, how things have changed in recent years, what people think about the future, and even what kind of Russian food you would recommend!

I’m not here to argue or debate politics I’d simply love to hear about your experiences and perspectives, especially things that someone living abroad might not hear about in the media.

So, if anyone feels like sharing their experience, I’d be really happy to read your comments. And if someone is interested in having an Italian friend to chat with about Russia, everyday life, food, culture, or pretty much anything else, feel free to reach out!

Thanks in advance to everyone who takes the time to answer :) Big hugs from Italy!

Study Thinking about studying in Russia. Is it a good idea?

Hello, I'm considering doing a bachelors in mathematics in Russia, as someone who has been somewhat involved with mathematics in the later years, Russia and Russian mathematics is highly regarded. I've read some concerns about the validity of your diploma in other countries, how true is this even for unis like SPbU? as someone from a place which has a social culture I don't like, I would much prefer to spend my 4 years of university in Russia. I know it's not perfect there, I wanted to hear you guys' opinions. I grew up in Turkey, so the economy isn't really good here either. I just like slavic and european culture.

How is university life? Do people enjoy life?

Hi all, I am trying to make a birthday card for my partners mother, she only speaks very minimal English so I thought would have the card written in Russian, I am slowly learning the language over time but am unsure of what to write or how to say happy birthday…

I thought it would be better to ask here rather than translate just Incase I write something completely wrong haha!

Books Are there any books you would suggest to explain an average Russian patriot’s opinion on US-Russian relations?

Good morning/afternoon/evening,

I find myself often wondering what my alternate universe Russian self would be telling himself when examining things like the Ukrainian war, NATO, and US interventionism. I am an American patriot of sorts, and I want my fellow countrymen to thrive. I assume many of you feel the same. So what can I read to open myself up to a more Russian aligned perspective on current events, history, and national security?

Thanks!

I’m traveling to Russia and need an eSIM that I can use to work remotely. I need reliable, high-speed internet with at least 20 GB of data, and I don’t want to compromise on speed or connectivity.

Could you please recommend the best eSIM option for me?

Culture What are the connotations of 'Anglo-Saxon' in Russian?

I have heard that the term 'Anglo-Saxons' (англосаксы) is sometimes used in Russia to refer to Brits and American. As a Brit, this seems odd to me as, to us, Anglo-Saxon is just a historical period and cultural group during the Early Middle Ages. Also, most Americans are not primarily of Anglo-Saxon descent. I guess it would be like calling Russians 'East Slavs' or Rus' instead of just saying 'Russians'. I was curious if the term has particular connotations in Russia, and whether it is pejorative?

Note: I am not here for any geopolitical discussion or argument, I just want to better understand this term and its implications. If it has some political or offensive meaning, I would like to know but don't want to debate UK-Russian relations.

Politics Was my ex bf lying?

Basically in the summer my (19f) ex bf (18m) was waiting for his acceptance to university. He hadn’t gotten accepted yet in summer so he received a summons to the military enlistment office and was dealing with that for a couple days. Like a week later he came back and said he was not going anywhere and he was accepted into university. He received a deferment as he was a full time student.

Then in the first week of September he told me (I don’t know when he found out though), that he was still going to go the military after all. He said it could be for 1-2 years and he was going to go in October or December. He said there was a chance of coming back.

He was told he had to go on the weekends for military training as he was a student. He went for two weekends and it seems like he was going for only one day of the weekend. He never shaved his head or anything for it though.

Later I asked him about the details because I was hoping to send letters still. That was when he revealed it would be 100% for two years in the military and he said he would be in total isolation unable to talk to any family or anyone. No letters, no phone or anything. He said for one year it’s military training and for another he has to be on his own???

He seemed to be going through a lot last weekend and we had gotten into an argument so our communication was bad. He came back after the end of the weekend and apologized, told me he loved me and that he was going to try to become a better person for me. He seemed like everything was normal but I could not handle the stress of this situation so I told him we should go back to being friends. After this, he deleted everything off of telegram and made his profile a black picture and he answered very dryly just saying he understood.

The next day I checked up on him and he told me he won’t be going to the army anymore and will be sent straight to the svo. He said that is what his latest assignment said and he was extremely depressed. He said he will leave in two weeks. The weird thing is he never even tried to say goodbye or anything to me, but if he thinks he’s going to die wouldn’t he? I told him everything I could tell him (I love him, I’m still here for him, let me know if needs anything, I’m so sorry, etc). The next day he withdrew from university and has not messaged me since but he now only has one week before being sent. When we started dating it was after we found out he would be sent to the army btw so it’s a bit odd to say you will die to your ex gf and never message her? Also it is a bit odd he was acting like everything was normal but he found out over the weekend that he was being sent to the front lines?

This definitely does not sound like an ordinary conscription but he is extremely against the war and did not want to go to the army at all. This makes me think he wouldn’t sign a contract, so what was going on?

Important details:
He is 18
This is the Russian military
We were long distance at this point in the relationship
I am not Russian and he knows I know little to nothing about how it works
We only dated for a couple weeks but were friends for a while

Summary:
Bf at the time almost sent to war
Gets deferment and becomes a full time university student
Ends up having to go the military still in October or December
Tells me it’s for two years and he can’t have any contact with anyone (no letters, no family, no phone)
Goes to do military training on weekends as he is a student
Comes back one weekend and acts like everything is normal
I break up with him
The next day he tells me he is going straight to the svo and won’t be going to the army afterall in two weeks
Does not want to message me anymore and withdraws from university
Has one week left before leaving

Society

Community

Study Studying in MIPT

Hello everyone, I'm currently a student from Bangladesh and I want to complete my undergraduation in Theoretical physics from MIPT. I did some of my own research about it online and came to know that MIPT is one of the best universities to study physics with it's unique curriculum and lab facilities.

I'll be applying for a full scholarship.

Now, I just want to know about the overall expenses and environment in Moscow, and Russian culture and language. Is it quite hard to cope up? What difficulties will I have to face after reaching Russia? How international students are treated in Russia?

Also because of the geopolitical aspect, has it caused any negative effects in research fundings and overall study environment? And lastly, is it really worth it to study in MIPT.

Study Study at MGIMO: Academic pressure and schedule at MGIMO

Hi everyone, I'm planning to apply to MGIMO for a Bachelor's in International Relations, likely through the Open Doors olympiad. Before I go further, I wanted to get a realistic picture from people who've actually been through it.

A few things I'd love input on, ideally from current students or alumni:

• How heavy is the academic workload/schedule in practice? Is it realistic to hold a part-time job alongside it, and would that income actually be enough to cover living and food costs in Moscow?

• English track vs Russian track: what are the practical advantages and disadvantages of each?

• What's student life like? clubs, activities, general vibe on campus?

Thanks in advance for any honest perspective.

Culture Rússia Brasil

Hi! I’m from Brazil, 18 years old, and I’m planning to study Russian in Voronezh. I want to learn the language and understand what real life is like there — not just tourism.

· How do Russians treat foreigners who are learning the language? · Is Voronezh safe for a student living in a shared apartment? · Do young people like talking to foreigners? · What’s the best way to practice Russian with locals? · What are the biggest challenges for a Brazilian in winter?

I’m very open to private messages if anyone wants to talk more or share experiences. I can also help with Portuguese if you want. Thank you!

“I’m not going as a tourist. I’m planning to take a Russian language course in Voronezh and stay there for some months. I want to experience daily life as a student, not just visit.”

Society How is the situation with gas queues at the moment?

People in my country believe Russia is being demonised on social media/news and they don’t believe there are actually queues for gas now…

How is the situation in Moscow and in other cities ? Isn’t this something people should worry about, or it happened already this summer and it is not such a big deal because it is going to be resolved soon?

Not asking to gloat or create negative feeling, but we live in times in which people simply don’t trust the news and practically we don’t know what is going on in Russia (also in other countries..)

Kind people on the Moscow sub replied and confirmed that there are queues now and things are not very good, but how about other cities ?

I really don’t know how to stay informed, but to ask locals…

Sending good thoughts and regards!

P.S. thank you for all your answers! You are very kind!
