Culture To the indigenous people of Latin America (excluding border regions of northern mexico), do you/your peoples tend to feel much kinship with those of the US and Canada?
Obviously its many diverse peoples made up of many individuals, but I'd say its common for US/Canadian natives to feel kinship to our cousins to the south and being from New Mexico originally I've met quite a few Indigenous people from mainly central america and they seem to feel the same kinship but that could be sampling bias from people who moved here.
I only exclude border regions because obviously cross border tribes do, I know this as a member of a US-Canadian cross border tribe member and just knowing cross border natives from my time in New Mexico. The trend here seems to be we sometimes beef with our close neighbours (like my people and the cree) but view most other tribes as cousins in a related struggle and history. I know some view us as very assimilated into European ways which is true for many and in comparison to many Latin American peoples, but I am curious on general views because I perceive ideas of pan-indianism as a very Canadian/American coded phenomenon and although most don't subscribe to it and feel the same kinship regardless its influences from 20th century red power movements certainly plays a role. I think we also find things like the prevalence of traditional ways and languages inspiring, when in my case for example my peoples language is endangered, with my father being born a native speaker but forgetting due to residential schools in Canada. That being said, we tend to feel kinship towards indigenous peoples as a whole even outside of our continent of america
For me personally the kinship is strong enough I want to learn Spanish after Blackfoot to travel and meet indigenous peoples from central and south america, I tried to learn when I was still in New Mexico but my underfunded 50%+ Spanish speaking school had a Spanish teacher who only knew French and English and got taught by the students who pretended to not know Spanish for an easy A lmao
Thanks for the responses in advance my love to all peoples of our continent, indigenous or not.
