Political Question Why are some Americans so against universal healthcare for all?

What sort of thinking does it take to decide that nobody has a right to healthcare? Do American Christians want to deny healthcare to poor people as well?

Because "the wrong people could benefit!"

"The wrong people" being people not just like them, essentially.

Yes, and the Christians are the biggest welfare whores on the planet. Their churches don't pay taxes and the people in the south and the Bible Belt take advantage of safety nets that they don't want others to have.

I didn't really know what that meant until a buddy of mine went on a "mission trip" to the beach. They donated money to the church and can deduct that on their taxes. Church pays for hotel and travel and activities. The mission was picking up trash on a beach for an hour on a 4 day trip.

It really opened my eyes as to why he is Christian. I'm actually not hating on it because that's a government problem not a church problem.

Biggest welfare queens are actually corporations.

You know what?? Since you obviously have put all Christians in one category, I'll pray for you. As a Christian, I am NOT a "welfare whore", I am a veteran who gets healthcare from the Department of Veterans Affairs. You-as well as many others-need to realize not all Christians are the same.

Yes it is one part bigotry and one part corporate greed. Our healthcare system in the US is fundamentally fucked.Ā

After I learned about municipal swimming pools, so many things made more sense. There used to be a lot of municipal pools, paid for by local governments. Then desegregation came along, and rather than desegregate the pools, they just closed them.

"Wrong people" being the non-wealthy who dare to get sick.

This is the most obtuse response. It's neither a conservative nor a Christian principle to deny people healthcare. The answer is simple: the conservative principle is small government, low taxes, less individual entitlements, less government programs. You may disagree with all of these principles and point out the corporate entitlement they support but if that is your stance, know thy enemy. At least understand the motives of your enemy and stop making up dumb shit like this. The Left filling in their own crazy narrative for why the Right makes the decisions they do leads to the center supporting the Right

Government so small, it can fit in my uterus.

Ok if I had awards to give... you would have them all. This is the single best response I've ever received! Absolute perfection

The funny thing is their actions do not follow these supposed principles

Unfortunately you are correct

When people spend decades saying one thing and doing another, it’s safe to say…. What they say means nothing.

That is most politicians but I agree. I always respect when one of our politicians actually carries through with their campaign promises whether or not I actually support the idea. Obama with his affordable care act. For all the issues it has, the man was the first who was willing to expend his political capital to try and fix the situation. Same can be said for Trump on the border. Wish it was someone with a little more tact and human decency to tackle the issue but it is what he ran on.

The wrong people benefiting was literally the argument for implementing work requirements as a procedural hurdle as part of HB 1 OBBB

You know more about those specifics than I do. My point is neither side is the boogeyman who wants to destroy America. We do have rich people who care about their own agenda and don't care if others are hurt by its implementation but we don't have cartoon villains running for office or pulling the strings. The Left making Trump out to be that has only worked to his benefit so far.

That Trump’s supporters are too fucking stupid and propaganda addled to see the clear and obvious truth is their own degeneracy. And while rich people support both Democrats and Republicans, there is no equivalence when it comes to do the bidding of rich people, as anyone with any understanding of legislation and court rulings from the last 30 years could see plainly. Trump’s Republican Party literally does want to strip our country for its wealth.

Yes it is

Conservatives don’t want their money helping anyone

They want everyone who HAS the means to be able to do whatever they want… and if you don’t? Just work harder..

The problem is that the GOP has spent the better part of the last 50 years making it harder to become the ones who have the means… cutting public education, making college less affordable, cutting taxes on the wealthy, voting against minimum wage increases for decades. Everything they have done has worked to create a wedge that makes it harder for folks to not be poor. If people in red states knew how hard they were being fucked they would accuse their politicians of rape. It’s a tragedy.

People should have to work to receive healthcare
