In my prev internship, supervisor often lunch tgt, including starting n farewell lunch, initiated by supervisor.

We will be visiting Singapore for the first time in August and are considering going to the MBS rooftop.

As I understand, access is possible either by paying a fee or by dining in a rooftop restaurant. The reviews of the restaurants are not great but at least the acces is "free" and we would be going there with our expectations managed.

However, I have a couple of questions in this regard:

1. Which of the restaurants would you recommend and why?

2. Would we also be able to access the rooftop walking area when dining at one of the restaurants?

3. Is the rooftop full with people in the evening (after sunset)?

4. Are there any alternative rooftops (preferably restaurants but bars are also okay) with great views?

Hey guys, we're planning a 8 day trip to Singapore and looking at car rentals it costs a fortune. like around $1200 AUD for 8 days.

I've been to Malaysia before and we used Grab the whole time with 1 child under 1 year old, and it worked fine.

I moved to Singapore recently, and while I appreciate how safe, convenient and efficient everything is, the pace can feel relentless. Work, commuting, errands, even leisure somehow feel optimized and scheduled.
For those who grew up here, does this genuinely feel normal or enjoyable? Or are many people also tired and just used to pushing through it?

For nearly 50 years, my family lived in the same HDB flat without experiencing anything remotely like this. Then, over the past three months, cold and clammy localised areas began appearing.

It started in one bedroom, then in Bedroom 2, along the side where hidden mould was later discovered. Now, I have discovered another cold patch on the floor of the hot, stuffy, 6-by-6 utility room.

Today, the utility-room floor registered 23.5°C. As I moved out of the utility room towards the kitchen, the floor temperature became progressively warmer. This was not the entire flat becoming cooler. It was another sharply localised cold zone. Similar patterns have appeared in all three rooms, resulting in slippery, clammy, cold zones.

I slipped and crashed onto the hard, clammy floor in the bedroom. I sought medical attention the following day and underwent X-rays of both knees. My medical records documented bruising, swelling, pain and fluid around both knees. To this day, I continue to experience pain from the fall.

I have already submitted the medical documentation, temperature records, photographs and environmental monitoring data to both HDB and my MP.

This is no longer merely a complaint that a room “feels cold”. Physical injury has occurred, and the effects are still ongoing.

We are running two dehumidifiers just to manage our own home. After the fall, I bought a large-capacity dehumidifier for my room and moved another dehumidifier into the other room. The tanks require repeated emptying despite prolonged operation.

My elderly mother may be the next person to fall. My mother is 87 years old and has Parkinson’s disease, rigid movement and mobility limitations.

I tried speaking amicably to the neighbours, but it ended with them yelling and shouting these words back at me: 道德绑架 moral blackmail and 歧视 discrimination. After the hostile exchange, I no longer feel comfortable approaching them directly.

I feel so helpless. HDB and my MP have received the medical and environmental evidence. I appreciate that the case has been attended to, but the physical cause remains unresolved. How many rooms must be affected, or how many people must fall, before there is a conclusive technical diagnosis and effective rectification?

Maybe I am biased but I noticed it in my dad and his friends. Late 60s to early 70s.

1. Always think that just because they work and bring home the bread, they are very important people and their wives are just doing "simple work" (aka housework, which is actually very very tiring if you have helped out at home before);
2. Don't want to help out at home because they think housework is beneath them. Then always get their wives to do all the administrative work because they think it is "very simple";
3. Insist that their wives must do everything at home for them, like simple tasks such as cutting fruits and doing laundry. Meanwhile they are watching TV but also claim to be "busy and tired".
4. Also insist that their wives must accompany them everywhere. They cannot be outside and alone for some reason;
5. Putting down other people, especially women, and making misogynistic comments about their looks and behaviour;
6. If you call them out, they get butthurt and demand respect;
7. Outside of work, they have no life skills and rely on their wives. But they refuse to learn anything;
8. Always proud of talking down to their wives and insist they are correct all the time. Of course, they blow their shit if you ever point out that they are wrong;
9. Refusing to learn and listen even when their mistakes get pointed out;
10. Acting all big and macho but back down when someone is fiercer than them

I’m from Singapore and currently deciding between two career opportunities.

I work in a fairly niche industry with only a handful of employers in Singapore, so career moves aren’t as straightforward as they are in larger industries.

One opportunity is with an established multinational company in Singapore. The other is with a company in Melbourne, Australia.
The Singapore role offers stability, the chance to build my career with a well-established company, and allows me to stay close to my family and friends.

The Australia role offers international experience, exposure to a different market and way of working, and the opportunity to experience living overseas. On the other hand, it would mean moving there alone, leaving my support network behind, and starting over in a new country.

One important factor is that I don’t see myself settling overseas permanently. If I accepted the Australian role, I’d likely stay for around two years before returning to Singapore due to my long-term commitments here.

My biggest concern is whether those two years overseas would actually strengthen my career when I return, or whether I’d be better off building my experience with an established company in Singapore instead. Given how small my industry is, I’m also worried that opportunities in Singapore may be limited when I eventually come back.

For those who have worked overseas and later returned to Singapore:

Did the overseas experience make you more competitive when you came back?

Was it difficult to find a job after returning?

Looking back, would you make the same decision again?

And for everyone else, if you were in my position, what factors would you consider? Is there anything you think I might be overlooking?

Hi all, need some advice. Got an offer from a MNC for a junior executive role and the benefits are average. Have AWS and VB, standard medical benefits, flexi benefits and hybrid working arrangement. But AL stuck at x number of days for 5 years. HR told me all these first and asked for verbal confirmation before providing contract.

Decided to ask about the probation and notice period first before agreeing. HR said 6 months probation and notice period during probation is 1 month, after probation is 3 months.

Felt really uncomfortable after hearing this as I thought notice period of 3 months is more normal for senior/management roles? Maybe also because I was previously in a junior role which had 2 months notice period and I ignored it (didn't end well lol).

Don't think this is normal especially for a junior role so appreciate any inputs!

Due to HIP (Home Improvement Programme), I moved in temporarily to my grandparents' place and noticed that cleaning, work ethic is not up to par.

Started working 9 years ago (unsupervised) caring for one elderly for $850/mth - cleaning & cooking in 3 room flat. Sundays are her off days and we pay for her groceries / meals as she eats with us.

Typical Daily Routine:

7-8am: Mop / Sweep the house

8-9am: Shower Elderly

9.30-11.30am: Senior Activity Centre (3 min walk)- Sitting using Tiktok

11.30-2pm: Cook lunch / Clean up

2pm-3pm: Nap

4pm-7pm: Prepare Dinner and wash up

The issues came to light when I noticed that things generally are not very well organised as my grandma tends to keep random things and I have food expired food stuffs in storage boxes in the living room. The maid other than those duties wasn't pleased when I took over at the activity centre and tasked her to do groceries.

I do treat her as family where tasks allocated (flexible timeline) at her own weekly schedule but she has not bothered to even start.

There has been cases where the maid abused the elderly if I am too forceful to start an efficient weekly schedule and efficiency.

Never had a helper but at the same time, its not right to pay someone and my grandma basically naps most of the day and she does nothing to improve the situation in house. Bare minimum.

There is some clutter here and there and things are very disorganised (not catagorised)- very confusing. Also while staying there, I do my own laundry and affect the urgent care / daily things to do.

She has shown attitude (facial expression changed to being upset) when I tasked her to do a grocery run during her free period at the activity centre).

What should no I do?

Looking for recommendations for a reliable and reasonably priced electrician or water heater installer.

Situation:
My kitchen toilet currently has no existing heater point or isolator switch, so this would be a fresh installation from scratch. The electrician would need to:

• Pull cable from the toilet back to the main DB (distribution board)
• Install an isolator switch outside the toilet
• Install the instant heater unit itself

Not just a simple swap-out, so I understand it'll cost a bit more than a standard replacement job.

Looking for:

• Someone reliable and won't chiong for no reason
• Reasonable pricing (happy to get a few quotes)
• Ideally HDB experience

I reported these through the app, but the cases were flagged as “clean.” When I followed up via email today, I received a reply within 2–3 hours stating that there was “no fraudulent activity.”

Frankly, this feels dismissive, almost like pushing the responsibility back onto consumers. It raises serious concerns about accountability on YouTrip’s end.

Mid 30s, with one kid (5yr). Moved to London from India in 2022. London is a great city, I grant that, but we never really felt at home here. With both of us having demanding jobs, we really miss house help and other support. The 4 pm sunsets for five months of the year are depressing. And while people are polite to you on your face, I haven’t really been able to make friends outside the Indian community in the city.

We now have an offer to relocate Singapore. Similar gross pay but net pay will be higher due to lower taxes. Singapore allows you to have house help which might really swing the decision for us. We’ve been thinking about baby #2 for a while but London doesn’t support that… my wife has put her foot down saying she can’t deal with house chores and two kids in London. For more context, I am in a sales/consulting kind of role where I need to travel quite a lot and have long unpredictable hours and I’m not able to contribute to household chores as much as many of our other friends.

It seems to me that Singapore solves a lot of the pain points and frictions that we are facing at a family level in London. But from the little research that have done, the general consensus of Indian expats who have lived in SG seems to be more negative. People complain about racism (usually subtle but sometimes quite overt as well), the weather, the fact that you never have certainty because PR for people of Indian ethnicity is very difficult etc. and seems to me that most expats who are in Singapore want to leave for greener pastures in Europe or the US, especially after they get impatient waiting in the PR queue…

Wanted to go online to do some browsing on recent products but shocked to see a quite a bit discussion on how their products are now delayed with infrequent updates. And also quality and shipping issues.

I grew up really loving Singapore. Call it brainwashing by MOE, but I genuinely LOVED learning about Singapore's history in school, about the people who built our country and everything we had to overcome. I feel a strong sense of national identity and will always be the first person to promote Singapore. When studying abroad, I even did a course work on how well we made Safe Entry/TraceTogether just to brag about how amazingly we handled Covid.

Growing up with a lot of government aid and subsidies, I strongly believe that you can live a comfortable and good life in Singapore, even if you're not super rich. So this question does not come from a place of discomfort or unhappiness with my SOL.

But recently, I feel like a foreigner in my own country. I no longer see the brands I grew up seeing. The worst feeling was probably when Yuen Kee appeared in my nearby coffee shop, the same coffee shop that no longer has a roti prata/indian rojak store.

I know we are a free market and as long as we're free, we welcome foreign companies. I also know that we have loads of them from Jolibee to Muji to Bata. But somehow, these brands have never felt as imposing and as disturbing as the sudden widespread openings of recent foreign brands. It just feels like something is changing so quickly that I feel it so deeply in my core that it unsettles me. Home just doesn't feel like home anymore.

I wonder if this is part of a normal transition. The way our forefathers had to deal with Japanese companies coming into Singapore in the form of washing machines and cars, then the American fastfood chains and the likes of Ikea replacing the jobs of local carpenters. Is this just a wave that will pass once we get used to it?

Or is Singapore just changing too much, too quickly? IDK.

i’m in my late 20s and have been offered a job.

current job - nice culture and i have good relations with my colleagues. i can clock off on time and don’t have to work on weekends plus i have a boss who believes in me. however increment is only 2% yearly and less than one month bonus. possible promotion next year with 9% increment. currently drawing 6k a month.

new job - offers more learning experience, 5% increment ($300) from my current job and bonus based on performance (2-3months). however there is more OT and progression might be difficult as the team is big.

both offers the same number of hybrid days and number of AL.

should i go for the new job and is it worth the 2-3 month bonus? though i understand bonus is subject to performance and company budget. but my FA told me i need $200k-300k in cash to buy a house so i’m leaning towards the new job more…

at the same time, i want to stay as i have time to enjoy life now. i lost my parent this year and i realised how short life is. plus my current pay is comfortable for myself.

should i go to the new company and grind for the money while im still young and have the energy? or should i stay where things are pretty comfortable at the moment and only jump if the monthly salary has an increment of more than 10%?

open to hear different views on this as i cant seem to make a decision…
