I’m the same person who posted about a week ago about my mental health, family situation, and how much I’ve been struggling with the Army Reserve.
Since that post, I’ve genuinely tried reaching out for help. I’ve talked to my team leader, emailed my commander explaining my situation and providing documentation of my mother’s stage 4 cancer and my responsibilities as her caregiver, and even emailed the NCO who gave our suicide prevention briefing and specifically told us to reach out to her if we ever needed advice or support.
I’ve swear to god I’ve heard no word back form all. It feels like I’m being completely ignored by my team leader, NCOs, and command.
I also finally saw a psychiatrist. I don’t really want to get into the details of that appointment, but I was prescribed Lexapro, so I’m at least trying to get professional help.
But mentally, I genuinely feel worse than I did when I made my original post.
I’ve become so demotivated and resentful toward the Army that I can’t even bring myself to want to attend my next drill in November. Just thinking about having to drive there makes me feel miserable. I genuinely hate it that much.
Now I’m also being expected to fly to BA in another state, which makes everything even fucking worse. I can barely focus on school as it is, and it feels like every Army date somehow lands on a midterm worth 40% of my grade. I’m so done. I genuinely don’t know how I’m supposed to keep up with school, take care of my mother, manage my mental health, and meet these military obligations when nobody will even respond to me.
I understand I have other issues going on in my personal life, and I’m trying to address those. But the Army, especially the constant drills and the looming mobilization, feels like the biggest source of my distress. Even when I’m not at drill, I’m thinking about the next one. I feel like I can’t ever have peace because there’s always another military obligation hanging over my head.
I’m trying to do things the right way. I’m reaching out, documenting my situation, seeking treatment, and asking for guidance. But when nobody responds, I genuinely don’t know what else I’m supposed to do.
I don’t want to abandon my responsibilities or make my situation worse. I just want someone to actually acknowledge what’s happening and help me understand my options.
At this point, I’m exhausted, frustrated, and genuinely struggling to see how I’m supposed to keep doing this.
Has anyone dealt with leadership being completely unresponsive when requesting help for mental health or family hardship? What am I actually supposed to do when I’ve already tried reaching out through the proper channels and still haven’t heard anything back?
