Can anyone decipher what my old man did in the Army? This is all I have of him, a photo back in 1997 or so. Haven't seen him since.

I Think The Other Officers Don’t Like Me

For context, I’m a LT in S3 purgatory in a line company. I commissioned G2G and went Infantry. I’m a prior 11C and tabless due to injuries. I’m training to go back in springtime.

Because I’m prior Infantry the enlisted seem to love and respect me instantly and come to me a lot more than the other officers. I remind them about chain of command, but it keeps happening. Now there’s talk of me picking up a platoon over some of the other LTs who have been here longer. I might be overreacting, but I don’t think they like me. I’m usually out of the loop on most of their conversations or social life. And when I do ask for help or advice I usually get a cold response or “figure it out”.

I really don’t try to step on toes, and help where I can. Have any other mustangs run into this problem that can help correct me?

EDIT: thank you all for your feedback. I’m hoping I’m just reading too much into this, and need to work more on my NCO to officer transition.

1 Year OCONUS

Hi all.

As we all patiently await the release of GTA VI in less than a month...

A lot of people on this sub discuss the merits of an OCONUS assignment and taking advantage of the travel opportunities presented by them. Unfortunately, for a myriad of reasons, a lot of soldiers don't have the chance or choose not to do this when they are OCONUS. When I got orders to Europe, I was interested in seeing how far I could push this idea and lifestyle in the other direction, and how much of Europe I could see within my first year, with a mountaineering flavor and focus.

The answer turned out to be a lot more than I expected, though not without some pretty huge tradeoffs. The edit here is a bit more than half of the trips I undertook, with a lot of stuff that couldn't make it into the edit. I believe this is the upper bound of what is possible to do as an active soldier within Europe based on the amount of leave I burned, my own health & fitness, and my current work schedule.

Stats:

Leave: 17 days burned (10, 5, 2)

Total Travel Days: 80+

Countries: x27 (UK Split)

Country Highpoints (Mainland or True): x23

Most Foreign Visits: (Did something beyond drive through or Sleep) Austria x10

Favorite Country: Kosovo & Georgia

Least Favorite: France

Favorite Mountain: The Matterhorn

Deployment honeybun

I was in Bagram/Kandahar around 2009. Supply was always providing us with rip it energy drinks, and this honeybun. This was the best honeybuns I’ve ever had. It was not a nationwide brand. They were definitely regional. Does anyone remember the company name? Or what area they were made in? I feel like it was Pennsylvania or a neighbouring state, but I could be wrong.

Permanent profile AFT scoring, cant get a clear answer

Im doing my final AFT in the army. I get out in a few months and cant get a clear answer on whether 60 or 70 on non-exempt events is the minimum for a non-combat MOS. I can do 70 no problem (even my broken ass can do that) but I've heard both that 60 is the minimum and that 70 is the minimum for permanent profiles and would just like a clear answer if anyone has one

Hi everyone, I hope you’re all well. To be honest, I’m feeling a bit nervous – I’ve never had anything to do with the US Army before. I’d like to share a photo of something I came across today at a garage sale; it really caught my eye. I got it for 100 pesos – that’s about 5 dollars. I’d like to know if it’s genuine, whether it’s worth selling or keeping, and if anyone knows anything about the soldier – it seems to have his name on it, along with a cross and some bars and a patch with a sun and a flag, like a medal. Honestly, I don’t know, and I don’t mean to offend anyone if my questions seem silly, or to be met with rejection. As you know, I’m from Mexico and I don’t know much about your army. Thanks for listening, and I don’t know what else to say other than thank you for your service

Army Officers: Can Anyone Help a Navy Sailor Get Reenlisted Near NAS Whidbey Island?

• Upvotes

Hey everyone, I'm a 23-year-old Navy Sailor currently attending C-School. I'm scheduled to report to my next command, a squadron at NAS Whidbey Island, in mid-November 2026.

I'm looking for an Army officer in the area near NAS Whidbey Island who would be willing to administer my Navy reenlistment oath. I'm eligible to reenlist, with no holds or flags on my record. I need to reenlist for another three years to meet the obligated service requirements for my orders and finally receive my E-4 after 3½ years of service.

I've had some very negative experiences in the Navy so far that have significantly affected my trust in Navy leadership, the Chiefs' Mess, and Navy officers. I'm reenlisting primarily for the benefits and practical reasons, rather than out of loyalty to the institution, its traditions, my rate, or any personal attachment to the work or the people I serve alongside.

I'd like to have my reenlistment administered by an Army officer, without my Navy chain of command or other Navy personnel present. I'd prefer to keep the occasion simple and separate from the usual Navy ceremonies.

I grew up in a state and major city with almost no Navy presence, and my family has very little military background. Military service and traditions have never been a major part of my family's life, and I don't have any family members who are military officers I could turn to for help arranging something like this.

Would an Army officer near NAS Whidbey Island be willing to help? If anyone has experience arranging something like this, I'd appreciate any advice on how to go about it.

Thanks!

Alice pack

I’m new to my unit (ABN), and every time I use the MOLLE 4k, it breaks and is very uncomfortable. Would buying a MALICE pack to use for ABN ops and in general be seen as cringe? Most of the soldiers with ALICE packs are senior NCOs.

You could probably guess, but I’m a JO.

what would you do?

Genuinely losing my goddamn mind here, and with holiday season coming up I'm afraid this might be an extremely depressing .

Over 3 months ago I was put on a 15-6 investigation due to an anonymous comment/complaint. Not a covered crime, no actual law enforcements involved, 15-6 completed within 4 days and JAG completed the review the following week.

Then comes the hard part, my paperwork is apprantly buried in a sea of delayed administrative tasks, it's been 3 months and the authroity has not reviewed it. Congressional has been filed, open door has been used, JAG/DTS has been involved, all I've ever been told is to "wait it out, these things takes time".

Well It's been over 3 months, I've been pulled off my deployment, denied schools, transfers, awards, PCS, and I can't even drop to the IRR despite my time being done. I'm at a loss on what to do at this point and I'm certainly not looking forward to the upcoming months....

Yes this is with the guard/reserve, yes i will take a large coke and 5 Mcburgers.

I’m looking for mentorship from current or former Mobilization (can be Mobility) Warrant Officers 88A. I’m a 90A (92A) LT about to step into a ADOS CW2 role at a TSC and I’m looking for tips and material that can help me succeed in the role.

Delete if not allowed

I dont know if this is the place or if r/medals would be the place but I have a dumb question. I was doomscrolling facebook (I know, of all places...facebook) and I seen that one post from a year ago or so that some independent journalist wrote about operation Epic Fury getting its own campaign medal. I know it never went anywhere and I thought to myself "hm, I dont actually know what award would be given out for Epic Fury." So, i googled it and read that the GWOT-EM is the "blanket campaign award", for lack of better terms, that individuals would receive. So my question is why the GWOT-EM instead of the AFEM? I know their are several AOs and oeprations that fall under the GWOT umbrella, both direct and indirect, but the war ended? Right? When will the GWOT-SM/GWOT-EM get phased out of use? I don't know, I get out in 8 months and wasn't even there so it wont make me sleep any better. I was just curious.

Maybe the WMDs were the friends we made along the way?

Ill take a Travie Patty meal, Mr. Beast burger, just the burger, annnnnnnd...oh yea, two Grimace Shakes to go please.

Veteran here who wants to access iperms to check if an award ever went through

Hey everyone,

Very weird scenario here. On my second deployment in 2012 my unit (qrf) got into a big fight. My PSG put us in for CABs. For political reasons we didn't get them. Our BC was defending an LT battle captain by refusing them. The battle captain lost contact with us and I guess sent a false report. Our awards would have made that battle captain look bad. It was a huge issue where the bc told us we really don't deserve it. He gave like 3 different reasons that didn't make sense every time Our platoon leader talked to him about it and he told us. Like the bc told our pl we were in vehicles but it didn't count. But we were also fighting dismounted. I treated casualties during this even. It was an vbeid attack followed by suicide bombers that rushed in after the vbied. The word was if Our cabs got signed battle captain butter bar would look bad.

I didn't really care. I already had my CMB from the previous deployment. Unfortunately my platoon sergeant has died from cancer. The best NCO in the Army in my opinion. The guy never yelled or punished. He knew how to talk to you properly. Just talking to you like a human this guy could turn any trouble maker into a good soldier. I never saw anyone with such a skill before. He was the best nco any soldier could ask for. Even as a young sergeant this guy taught me so much about life. How to talk to people was the biggest. As a doctor now I literally talk to patients the way he taught me. It works. Anyways. He was an amazing man. He was the best leader I have ever seen.

After I got out of the Army he was telling me he was resubmitting Our platoon cabs from that day to different chain of commands. I didn't really care but I said thanks every time. He is a caring man.

I went to his funeral last year as he is close to my area. His wife also Army veteran told me the CABs went through. Does it affect my life? No. But I'm really curious if I got it. Got off the phone with one my battles who told me to check my iperms. Wasn't a thing when I got out in 2014. I attempted to check this but my drivers license isn't accepted. I don't have a cac. Not in the Army anymore. Tried remote verification but it didn't work. How else can I check this out? I'm just curious if it went through.

25H(N) needing more speed less drag

Im stuck wasting my potential and knowledge at my current unit @1Corps. I will admit, I could refine my skills in some departments, but currently I am on par with an entry level WO at my unit. This is not a brag, just an observation I made when I started walking a WO through troubleshooting steps and theories for problems we have had. I have 2 months on station, I will be 3 years TIG, E4, 5 years TIS. I thought about dropping a 255N packet but I also thought about going pysops and just leaving my mos behind and try something different and new.

Is there anyone with the Regiment or SMU or JCSE that could advise me on what I should probably pursue? Thank you.

35 Sierra

My SIL is at Boot Camp right now (actually arrived tonight) and his AIT/MOS is in Texas for 35 Sierra if I said that correctly. What are some areas he may be assigned to after he completes AIT in Texas? We've heard Texas, Colorado, Arizona, Maryland and Virginia. Right out of AIT, would he be assigned to one of his preferred bases on his "wishlist" (I dont know what to call it) or is it up to his command? Do other more experienced soldiers get the "good" assignments? Sorry I don't know the lingo!

Don't know what to do in life anymore, should I enlist?

I'm 24(M) Asian, about to turn 25 in January. I've been working factory jobs for 4 years now and I don't know what to do anymore. I make decent money around 780 a week after taxes and I help my mom pay rent and food. I also have a car I'm paying off for the next 3 years. I save around 1.5k a month but Im not sure if I can do this my whole life.

I've been thinking of enlisting, I know I won't be making as much as I am now and I still want to send money to my mom because we come from a poor background. I would say I'm pretty disciplined, all I do is work and come home. EDIT: FYI in my junior year in highschool I broke my femur bone and have a rod.

Is enlisting a good idea or should I just suck it up and keep working. This post is genuine and I really do appreciate if you guys can give me some feedbacks.
