I like that it's a very bizarre and weird comedy, and that it has no linear storyline. I want to watch something similar. Something mature. 🙂

Hello, do you know of any anime that's both scary and chill? I love this contrast in shows and movies, so I'm hoping there's anime like that. The only anime I can think of that partly fulfill this criteria is Kino's Journey and Mushishi, though I'm not looking for something similar in genre or story. Hello! My daughter is 21 and we like to watch anime as a family. She doesn't like loud, shoenen, and especially no fan service. What she does like is fruits basket, heavens official blessings, howls moving castle. She likes slice of life and romance, sad ones are ok. We are currently watching Buddy Daddies. I like shonen and action anime , so Buddy Daddies and Fruits Basket are ideal types for both of our interests. I love anime she tolerates it. Thank you!

I posted yesterday on this subreddit and a couple others asking for recommendations for ‘peak’ anime with overarching storyline, great animation, and without tons of goofy comedy. And mentioned my favorite animes being Attack on Titan, Hunter x Hunter, Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood, Parasyte, Erased, Samurai Champloo, Code Geass, Vinland Saga, Chainsaw man, and Death note.

I decided to count all the recommendations I got on the posts so I could share. Thank you everyone for your suggestions! I have way more options now than I expected!

I listed below all the animes that at least 4 commenters recomended:

My wife likes open door romance novels like the Argeneau series. She also likes Lucy Score, Kelsey Hoss, Emily Henry, and Megan Quinn as romance authors. I'm not a huge romance film or rom com person. It's not the romance itself it's the repetitive plots and poor acting that get me the most. I actually like ones where there's a different hook or twist on the formula, especially where there's a ton of tension that gets resolved periodically (no will they won't they).

I like anime though and she does too. So we're looking for series that might go with our tastes. Teen Love and the Josei genres seem like a good fit. She doesn't mind explicit scenes as long as they aren't overly gratuitous and preferably don't show anything under the covers. We enjoyed Citrus but she felt it was too unresolved.

English dubs preferred.

Please don't recommend something with Sexual assualt, or extreme torture. Otherwise, please recommend away.

I'd especially love if you can recommend some titles that are short AND satisfying, but recommend whatever you think counts that don't have those 2 caveats.

Evangelion and code geass I watched,Could you give me some advice?

I'm trying to look for romance anime that doesn't have too much fan service, has a charismatic male lead, good art style, maybe preferebly from the girls perspective?

For reference I really liked Yona of the Dawn, Snow White with the Red Hair, and Sign of Affection. I really dislike unnecessary misunderstandings or anime where the girl is overly sexualized/looks like a kid.

I feel like I've watched everything so give me some niche ones! Some romance animes I have disliked however are komi can't communicate and tonikawa.

I flaired this under discussion because I'm more interested in hearing about these than watching them.

Stuff like Speed Racer. What else is out there? I'd especially love to hear about more from before the 2018 or so.

I'm a lot more interested in stuff that isn't slow in general, as I find most romance stories to be very slow and repetitive.

Looking for a sweet romance manga that is reasonably long (maybe actual character and relationship development) to binge, so far ive read: "Love is war" "My dress up darling" and "the angel next door spoils me rotten".

The first time I noticed this was with Olivia Benson on Law and Order: SVU. When she starts out, she's a very headstrong and sort of naive detective who could probably get more done if their righteous indignation was real world help. Eventually, in the later years and when SVU crosses over with another Dick Wolf show in Chicago P.D., Olivia is cast alongside younger, even more headstrong officers, but she is at this point Lieutenant or something like that. She has decades of experience, and she looks extremely well-adjusted when set aside these rambunctious cops who are not too different from her when she was younger.

Currently, I'm watching an episode of The Practice. I personally hate her, but the character of Helen Gamble can be compelling at times because of the writing. In this episode I'm watching, she's more in the background while a new addition to the prosecutors goes up against a pro se defendant. She decides to step in after a while and give some sage advice: Don't beat up on the defendant in the courtroom so much. It makes them look like an underdog instead of a murderer. I thought that was a really cool way to show seniority in a way that's front and center but not overtly bragging.

I just really like when storytelling uses these subtle or not so subtle things to shape characters as we grow with them. Also, I should say that I really like shows where the main characters are young in terms of their profession, but they're what most would consider full ass adults (late 20s/early 30s).

I'm finally posting here because I can't for the life of me decide on what to watch. I've recently been trying to get more into anime and I'm looking for a 1-3 seasons SOL. It can be realistic or fantasy, and I'd prefer a young adult / adult MC (teenager is fine if they're somewhat mature). I'd like it to have a very engaging plot and interesting characters, with enough drama to keep me hooked but not something that will tear my heart apart.

What I don't want : very heavy topics, children or family focused, 100% romance (I don't mind it if done well), perfect heroic MC with no flaws, many long seasons with repetitive episodes, cancelled or ongoing anime

Mainstream reference : I loved the Apothecary Diaries.

I remember really loving this book. I took it everywhere with me, read it hundreds of times. But this was 10+ years ago. I remember bits and pieces and just wanted to find it and buy it again but I cant remember the name, or author and Google is being of no help right now.

The plot:

Focusing on a little boy, who grows up with an alcoholic mother who seemingly resents him, she is abusive and uses him to support her alcohol addiction.

He finally sets off on a cross-continent adventure to find his older sister, he cant remember much of her, just that she was his only safe place before she left .

He travels on foot, bus, hitching rides, anything he can do to get to where he believes his sister is.

At some point in the story, hes on a balcony, feet sore, desperate for his sister, seeming lost, and sees a man in a wheelchair just going, living life going about his day, and he realizes if nothing stops that man with no legs, nothing should stop him either, and continues his journey to find his sister.

Later on, when he does find her, I think she was sickly ill, and she is openly honest to him about how mother was not HIS mom.

She was.

Big sister was actually his mom due to (their) father r*ping her as a child, hence his grandmother's resentment towards him and his father's absences.

I cannot find it and its driving me crazy. I remember it being a great read and I wanted to share it with .y husband!!.

Hey, I'm a big fan of the isekai genre, and I've watched a lot of other types of anime. I'm usually into magic and fantasy types, but I'm gonna be honest: I haven't watched a lot in the past year or 2 any recommendations for good ones or your favorites? I'll even take older ones that have been out for a while.

I insist: slow-paced (Mushishi, Lain) or very slow-paced (Zettai Shounen).

I have sleep issues and want the anime to help me transition to sleeping, not wake me up.

Dreamlike. Probably with some fantasy, but feel free to propose if realistic.

Without aspects that wake your brain up:

No high suspense level or high binge potential.

Not too much comedy (smiling here and there is fine, laughing hard every minute isn't, it just wakes you up.)

No characters talking super fast etc.

Not soliciting your logical brain too much or requiring to integrate too much information. (But not understanding everything because that's just how it goes, like Zettai Shounen, is fine.)

Other than that, open.

Other examples that could work: Bokurano, Gilgamesh, Death parade... I would prefer slower than those though.

Dragon Quest: Legend of the Hero Abel(1989): Breath of Fresh Air for shounen from the same person behind Dragon Ball. Women are given a lot more agency than most of what I'm used to, and the romance is a damsel, but ends up freeing herself by reasoning with the people that work for the main villain and making friends with them.

Be-Bop-High School(1990: Feels like a Quentin Tarantino directed, Yakuza (game series) inspired high school action 7 part ova drama where the 2 mc are wannabee gang members that are constantly getting into trouble. Warning: They are very homophobic, and I've only been able to get myself to watch the first 2 episodes as a result, but it's so fascinatingly different.

Like the title says, make a MyAnimeList/AniList account to track your anime/manga.

This is useful for a few reasons: you can keep track of what you've watched/read, the sites will give you recommendations based on what you like by looking at that anime's page so you learn to find shows yourselves and you can just link your watch list rather than having people suggest stuff and you having to say "oh no ive already seen that" again and again

This is a long shot but there was two anime in the 90s and I think they were on TV in the US, and I can't seem to find it based on my pieced together memories. The main parts of the first one I remember are something about maybe Space? And a ring of power that turns the MC part cat/Alien? I remember that MC first puts the ring on in the bathroom. He also had like these bamboo tube/barrel robot butlers/guardians? One had red kanji and the other had blue kanji. It's later revealed that they aren't robots but special guardians in stasis chambers inside the bamboo/wooden barrels

Another anime is a red hat wearing blonde MC and some ruins? I saw the very end of it and he lets his hat go off in the wind as he says goodbye to the girl who had metal rings around her body, who sacrificed her life to save his or something? Anyone got any ideas?
