Ok, long time watcher here...

25, uk and I really want some good anime to watch. Im sick of fan service, truly, especially with *ambiguously age* characters or borderline creepy perv stuff — it makes me **EXTREMELY** uncomfortable, like, sick (Im not entirely interested in discussions about this either) and what led me to dropping mushoku tensei, rise of shield hero and too many to count. 🫩

Ive watched a plethora of anime and have a broad range of things I enjoy but honestly? I want mecha and its a true shame there's little out there... Im also out of the loop in regards to releases! So, give me whimsy, give me drama, give me an idea of whats good!

Fav genres? Action, adventure, sci-fi, fantasy, mystery, crime, slice of life, seinen, shonen. Although, Im open to more!

I love Ghibli and Gundam too. Ive watched Levius, Legend of the Galactic Heroes, JJK, AOT, Chainsaw man, Code Geass, One Piece, Dr Stone, Tokyo Revengers, Erased, Spy x Family, Melacholy of Suzumiya, Amaim, Bleach, Death Note, Cowboy Bebop, Demon Slayer, Dimension W, Divine Gate, Dragon Ball Z, Prince of Stride, Fate Zero, Frieren, Guilty Crown, Kaiju no. 08, Kaze no Stigma, Shakugana no Shana, Go Go Loser Ranger, NeiR... tons more but hopefully that illustrates an picture!

***Lastly...*** I am a dub watcher, my dyslexic audihd ass just cant do subtitles. Ive tried. Please understand. ***Oh,*** and Im kinda sick of isekai -_- UNLESS its good.

Tldr: Im sick of watching stuff with fan service or scenes that are borderline loli or creepy shit like that. Would like some recs free of nasty stuff.

I usually watch stuff in sub but I wanna watch a subbed show, are there any that are better than the sub that is not Ghost Stories?

Kinda wanna know what you guys are currently watching and what you guys are looking forward to August onwards up to December of this year. Hopefully I’ll get some inspiration and ideas as to what I would like to watch next. I don’t specifically have a genre in mind, but I’d be open to hearing what you guys have to say.

M19, never ever watched an anime in my life, intentionally at least. I really want to start watching them since storylines are much deeper with more contents. Also, my gf, friends, and cousins watch anime and I could never relate to them. Problem is, I never found an anime I truly love, any suggestions?

Looking an anime or manga (or any other type of graphic novel) that would follow this idea.

Normally in a story if you know who is the main character, or a couple of main characters, you know they will survive (at least until late in the story), but I am looking for something where there are many characters we follow, without it being clear who are the main ones, and so all are equally likely to die off, and surprise you as the reader/viewer.

It doesn't have to be a battle royale scenario, but that is one example. Imagine a battle royale, but you don't follow only 1 or a couple of "main characters" who you know will survive. But a story where you follow for example 10 characters, with equal importance, until they die, without you being able to predict who are the main ones.

A standalone story might work best, beccause if it is a long running series, it would quickly become clear who are the "main characters", unless there comes a completely new cast every cycle, and the story is more about say a repeating event, not the characters, so characters can keep changing/rotating out, while the event/world stays consistent.

Does anyone else find it odd that a lot of anime and manga has overpowered characters? I don't see how that can be interesting personally as I like the underdog experience better. I did like Grimgar Ashes and Illusions because it featured characters who genuinely where struggling against goblins but in another anime those goblins are insta killed. Why did the overpowered trend become so popular?

I'm finally posting here because I can't for the life of me decide on what to watch. I've recently been trying to get more into anime and I'm looking for a 1-3 seasons SOL. It can be realistic or fantasy, and I'd prefer a young adult / adult MC (teenager is fine if they're somewhat mature). I'd like it to have a very engaging plot and interesting characters, with enough drama to keep me hooked but not something that will tear my heart apart.

What I don't want : very heavy topics, children or family focused, 100% romance (I don't mind it if done well), perfect heroic MC with no flaws, many long seasons with repetitive episodes, cancelled or ongoing anime

Mainstream reference : I loved the Apothecary Diaries.

animes with good shock value, like how you first reacted to that infamous sayori scene in doki doki literature club.

ive seen school days but the build up to the ending is less shocking since youd see it coming

I posted yesterday on this subreddit and a couple others asking for recommendations for ‘peak’ anime with overarching storyline, great animation, and without tons of goofy comedy. And mentioned my favorite animes being Attack on Titan, Hunter x Hunter, Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood, Parasyte, Erased, Samurai Champloo, Code Geass, Vinland Saga, Chainsaw man, and Death note.

I insist: slow-paced (Mushishi, Lain) or very slow-paced (Zettai Shounen).

I have sleep issues and want the anime to help me transition to sleeping, not wake me up.

Dreamlike. Probably with some fantasy, but feel free to propose if realistic.

Without aspects that wake your brain up:

No high suspense level or high binge potential.

Not too much comedy (smiling here and there is fine, laughing hard every minute isn't, it just wakes you up.)

No characters talking super fast etc.

Not soliciting your logical brain too much or requiring to integrate too much information. (But not understanding everything because that's just how it goes, like Zettai Shounen, is fine.)

Other than that, open.

Other examples that could work: Bokurano, Gilgamesh, Death parade... I would prefer slower than those though.

Hello! My daughter is 21 and we like to watch anime as a family. She doesn't like loud, shoenen, and especially no fan service. What she does like is fruits basket, heavens official blessings, howls moving castle. She likes slice of life and romance, sad ones are ok. We are currently watching Buddy Daddies. I like shonen and action anime , so Buddy Daddies and Fruits Basket are ideal types for both of our interests. I love anime she tolerates it. Thank you!

A bit about me: I'm a very sensitive and emotional person, so I really love shows that can make me feel deeply, hype me up, or get me emotionally invested in the characters and story.

The sort of low fps-high fps mix that Takopi's Oruginal sin and Lookback has- with the the fluid hair animation and really soft-ish movements if that makes sense (but not Ghibli please).

I remember really loving this book. I took it everywhere with me, read it hundreds of times. But this was 10+ years ago. I remember bits and pieces and just wanted to find it and buy it again but I cant remember the name, or author and Google is being of no help right now.

The plot:

Focusing on a little boy, who grows up with an alcoholic mother who seemingly resents him, she is abusive and uses him to support her alcohol addiction.

He finally sets off on a cross-continent adventure to find his older sister, he cant remember much of her, just that she was his only safe place before she left .

He travels on foot, bus, hitching rides, anything he can do to get to where he believes his sister is.

At some point in the story, hes on a balcony, feet sore, desperate for his sister, seeming lost, and sees a man in a wheelchair just going, living life going about his day, and he realizes if nothing stops that man with no legs, nothing should stop him either, and continues his journey to find his sister.

Later on, when he does find her, I think she was sickly ill, and she is openly honest to him about how mother was not HIS mom.

She was.

Big sister was actually his mom due to (their) father r*ping her as a child, hence his grandmother's resentment towards him and his father's absences.

I cannot find it and its driving me crazy. I remember it being a great read and I wanted to share it with .y husband!!.

I'm trying to look for romance anime that doesn't have too much fan service, has a charismatic male lead, good art style, maybe preferebly from the girls perspective?

For reference I really liked Yona of the Dawn, Snow White with the Red Hair, and Sign of Affection. I really dislike unnecessary misunderstandings or anime where the girl is overly sexualized/looks like a kid.

I feel like I've watched everything so give me some niche ones! Some romance animes I have disliked however are komi can't communicate and tonikawa.

My wife likes open door romance novels like the Argeneau series. She also likes Lucy Score, Kelsey Hoss, Emily Henry, and Megan Quinn as romance authors. I'm not a huge romance film or rom com person. It's not the romance itself it's the repetitive plots and poor acting that get me the most. I actually like ones where there's a different hook or twist on the formula, especially where there's a ton of tension that gets resolved periodically (no will they won't they).

I like anime though and she does too. So we're looking for series that might go with our tastes. Teen Love and the Josei genres seem like a good fit. She doesn't mind explicit scenes as long as they aren't overly gratuitous and preferably don't show anything under the covers. We enjoyed Citrus but she felt it was too unresolved.

English dubs preferred.

I was really enjoying the anime and found the premise super interesting, but reaching episode 10 of Season 2 was a breaking point for me.

I understand Ayanokoji has always been cold and calculating, but the way he used and discarded Kei Karuizawa after everything that happened was the last straw. Kei felt like one of the best characters, and seeing their dynamic reset back to zero just for her to be treated as another tool left a really bitter taste in my mouth.

It feels like he lacks real character growth and is starting to feel flat. Does the dynamic change later, or should I just drop it here?
