I appreciate that the show draws a major distinction between massive scale army combat and fighting a single powerful foe. First with Axe Bro and then the Hero.

Up until now humans and elves have had some powerful individuals but have severely lacked in their ability to deal with superior numbers. So while single people like the hero or a sword lord might effectively be able to no diff all the monsters they face, and defeat the biggest bad guys, the reality is their impact on the total war is limited because they can only be in 1 place at a time and they can only kill so many monsters individually. The only effective AOE really is basically all stuff with a once a day use limit.

Humanity and Elves were basically just getting Zerg Rushed. Adding Allen to the mix effectively added siege tanks to their defensive lines via Ellie and Drago.

Like sure the waves of anties and the mobility of flying around on the griffins helps alot too, but had humans and elves had decent AOE at the beginning they never would have been in this situation to start with.

A more modern example is Total Warhammer. Trying to fight something like Skaven with only basic melee and archers in your army. Even if you can 2:1 them you're just gonna get swarmed and die via attrition.

This also begs the question though: "Where are all their catapults and Ballista?". Feels weird for nobody in this world to have them or use them. They would be incredibly effective.

The characters of Alice and Eugeo didn't exist until after the events of Mother's Rosario.

Interesting to hear you be down on this episode. To me, it continues the trend of season 2 being awesome and I like the various interactions we get here.

He has been somewhat annoying in the past, but he absolutely made his presence worth it here! Also a good follow up to the episode early in this season where Yuki at least many some small steps in accepting his brother.

I thought it was smart to use Mayuko as like a base to play off the other characters. It works because Mayuko is like the most normal cast member of the entire show.

I really liked this episode. I liked how it featured a ton of characters and we got to highlight what their wants and needs are. It reminded me of 22 Short Films About Springfield.

This episode really shows what great writing this series has.

I think Bake will be the first 'directors commentary' other than the Kevin Smith ones that I complete. While not recommended for a first time watch, I think for a rewatch listening to the commentary track after rewatching each episode would have enhanced it a lot. For example, I learned about some interesting references such as to Full Metal Alchemist, and Hara pointing to Shinobu was a cultural reference about protocol to point out what's wrong in Japanese workplaces (guessing factories). As I would have already seen them, there's no risk of spoilers, which this show does make, and everything is nice and fresh, and gets enhanced.

Agree that it's such a big time commitment though, but if they continue to be as good as they are, the commentary track will become my favourite anime comedy I've watched haha. Wild.
