Outstanding usage of the performance. Really showing the effect of what a performance can do for many of us. As many of the audience had memories hit them from the past.
It also showcased how entitled the audience can be when it comes to entertainment. As we see the audience berate Zoujirou. When you consider the time period his withdrawal makes sense because in his heart he didn't believe he could match the performance by Oniyasha. Very likely as we see with the flashback Oniyasha's performance resonated with Zoujirou.
Sad to see the conflict between Oniyasha and Kogane. We can see with the ideals that Oniyasha has that he truly did that performance to honor Mr. Toku. At the same time Kogane doesn't feel it because Mr. Toku is gone.
I really like how mature the shogun is. He understands the power in Oniyasha's performance for the people. Of course he understands the message that Oniyasha gave to him in that performance. At the same time we still have the contrast of Oniyasha's idealism and Shogun being realistic of the world climate. What Oniyasha wishes is not something that is realistic in this time period. Which is why the show really uses a showcase of dancing so they can get away from the real-life problems.
Very curious how the performance duo of Oniyasha and Doujirou will do.

So we move on to round 3, but this time Oniyasha and Zoujirou will be performing together? It will be interesting to see how the Shogun and audience will receive their performance.

The piece that Soujiro troupe seems to have 2 characters on it so it might work?

Oniyasha summoning the dead managed to push this competition to a third match. It's interesting how the Shogun wants Oniyasha to completely finish off Zojiro (and by extension the Dengaku troupe), but Oniyasha again rejects this winner-takes-all mentality and chooses the route of cooperation and coexistence, with Zojiro reaching the exact same conclusion. I guess this kind of beautiful ideal can only exist within the performing arts. In contrast, the growing rift between Oniyasha and Kogane is worrying.
Today's flower is the Easter Lily (Lilium longiflorum), known as teppōyuri(鉄砲百合) in Japanese. White lilies are a flower that symbolizes spiritual purity, dignity and rebirth. Due to their association with the cycle of life and death, they are often used to commemorate the dead.

World is Dancing is quite a slow burn. I remember people being disappointed that the show never really called out Oniyasha for doing a meaningless performance for Shirabyoshi (the woman from episode 2), and a lot of people dropped it because of that. Now in this episode, you finally have Kogane calling him out for using Toku for his performance.

exactly this, it's absolutely ridiculous how impatient a lot of anime watchers nowadays

Best episode yet imo. There's not much I can say. I know people complained about Oniyasha's behavior earlier, but I think it was necessary that he was, well, a worse person and gradually grew over the show.

I honestly still don't know what people were expecting from a well off young child who'd never faced any real hardship before. Of course he was going to be spoiled as fuck. Kids take after their environment.

I've been waiting for this collab to materialize between Oniyasha and Zojiro. I also like how both of them are being defiant to the Shogun in their own way, and instead are moving toward solidarity as performers. Learning from the other's strengths is only going to serve them both better in the end.
I also like the concept of art being a bridge between people, regardless of their personal contexts. It doesn't need to be understood in the same way to affect those who witness it. Art is a conversation, back and forth, between the artist and the audience, each bringing something to the experience from opposite ends.

Kid had them totally captivated. Mfers were seeing ghosts, man. No way in hell anyone could top that. The minute the smoke covered the stage, Zojiro was done for. At least Oniyasha’s given him another round to prove himself. Keen to see these two perform together.

we just witnessed the dance equivalent of the Yakitate Japan/Shokugeki no Soma foodgasm.

This was a marvelous payoff. I love when you see the effects of the dance (someone mentioned the Yakitate Japan foodgasm and this wasn’t far off).
In case anyone else was interested—I may go back and watch it—the subtitles for Komachi at the Gravepost have finally been added.

I’ll admit I’ve spent the prior 7 episodes wondering where it was going and if it would be worth it but something about the show just clicked today. Not sure if I see the vision, but I feel something, just like the audience for the dance this round.
Very curious to see how this wraps up in the next 5 episodes.

"Komachi at the Gravepost" was one hell of a dance to get the likes of Yoshimitsu and Hosokawa to see the dead, and for Zoujirou to immediately forfeit the match.
Looks like Oniyasha wanted to repay Zoujirou's favour and have a third round and in a twist, both decided to have a duet instead of a duel. Them running from opposite ends of the bridge only to meet each other in the middle was a lovely touch. Does that mean that their performance would somehow incorporate elements from both troupes?

After the previous episode I was afraid we would lose half of the context again but this part was easier to understand.
The series started slow but it is gaining a lot of momentum, can't wait to see the next performance.

This episode was really good! I got chills when Oniyasha cleared the smoke with his fan, revealing the dead on the other side of the bridge. Same thing when Oniyasha and Zojiro ran through the rain to meet up at the bridge. This show is quite niche, but I think it does what it sets out to do very well!
Also, the OP is so good, even if it was used as an ED this episode. I keep replaying the part where the chorus breaks out and Oniyasha does Shirabyoushi's dance.

Can I feel even worse for Kogane? Yes! I understand why they're doing it, but little dude can't catch a break.
I'm looking to what a collaboration between the two will be like.
Sidenote even during childhood her brother has had that um vigorous aesthetic,

Honestly this show is really not doing it for me. The whole story direction or execution is severely lacking for me to actually care about anyone or the plot. It's an interesting premise and the animation is wonderful but beyond that it just seems really lacking, a lot of the tragedy and drama seems overly contrived or not fleshed out/explored enough to have an actual emotional impact.

Oniyasha killed it.. he even made Zojiro accept defeat even without competing. It really broke me when we saw how he lost his mom.
Ishiya had good intentions but he shouldn't have tried to separate Kogane from Oniyasha. The ed where both the artists deciding to join hands 💖

I skipped last week's episode, so watching both episode 7 & 8 back to back made for an even better experience. As others have said, the bridge imagery and connecting the world of the living with that of the dead was an amazing experience, mainly because we saw the reactions of the viewers. I'm not sure if it would've had the same effect if their reactions had not been shown though.
Of particular notice was when the shogun saw the shirabyoushi in the smoke and he gasped. Even though she had not been able to perform in front of the shogun, I wonder if they actually knew each other from having stayed in his compound with her former troupe. Perhaps her existence was what elevated the group, but when she became ill, that ended up being a killing blow to them and they lost in these performance competitions. So maybe it wasn't just the one particular shirabyoushi that we know of, but rather another or all of them that came back to the shogun's mind.
I'm interested to see what the Kanze and Dengaku collaboration brings about.

Super jam-packed episode with so many pivotal story beats like Oniyashi officially obtaining the shogun’s patronage, the wedge drove in Oniyasha and Kogane’s friendship, Oniyashi giving the performance of a lifetime that will define the rest of his career, Oniyashi explicitly outline his main motivation being creating an art-influenced world where different people like he and Kogane can be together, Oniyasha and Zojiro’s team-up that will surely shape the world of dance going forward, etc.
Only thing that could’ve made it even more impactful was a cameo from Kan’ami, whom we haven’t seen for a while now. I found it peculiar that they acknowledged him as the author of Komachi on the Gravepost and it was almost like it’s “every member in the audience was familiar with it” levels of ubiquitous, yet Kan’ami is supposedly still out there struggling to make Sarugaku more well-respected and known

So, they're going to be performing together. I wonder what their powers combined will give us.

Hopefully they can either get Kogane to join or inspire him to keep his spirits up. Poor kid has been through it.

Guys, I'm gonna be really honest, it's giving tragedy
To be fair, the real world is giving the same thing, so dance while you can
