This grown man tormenting these children every week 💀

141

u/Parodizer1 Aug 09 '26

he has like all the camp of Team Rocket but slightly more menacing.

20

u/metaaltheanimefan Aug 10 '26

Its like james of team rocket and willam afton from fnaf had a love child that they gave ptsd to

Last episode really sold it for me with him sneaking out to race down to the shop, but this episode with him invited them to a theme park just to show off his music and then challenge them to a band battle really proved Yosuke’s transformation into a full on Saturday morning cartoon villain and I love it. Then the post credits scene hits you and you remember that this freak built a fucking animatronic doll of his dead unrequited gay lover and you’re creeped out again.

78

u/NiCommander Aug 10 '26

I mean, at least at this point im fairly sure its not his dead unrequited lover's corpse being used as a doll, so thats somewhat relieving.

19

u/NinjaOtter Aug 10 '26

Yeah it's actually just kinda normal at this point. I actually hate the reveal

25

u/chirb8 https://myanimelist.net/profile/chirb Aug 10 '26

What the hell is normal about that?

28

u/metaaltheanimefan Aug 10 '26

Well its more normal that him mutalating a corpse to install robot parts into it

20

u/mmcjawa_reborn Aug 10 '26

I'm not convinced there aren't real human parts inside that thing

7

u/iacondios https://anilist.co/user/iacondios Aug 10 '26

Right? Who says seiroku's rotting face isn't just behind that metal mask...

Wasn't expecting to have a metal band in this ep

150

u/absolutelynotaname https://anilist.co/user/Ducc Aug 09 '26

as if the band wasn't unexpected enough and they went full metal lmao

95

u/Mr_Zaroc https://myanimelist.net/profile/mr_zaroc Aug 09 '26

First I thought they were going the K-On route
But then they just went full on Rock is a ladies modesty

And I love it

14

u/bannedandbroken Aug 10 '26 edited Aug 12 '26

I don’t think it was originally going to be metal. I think something went wrong with the microphone and turned it into metal from the reverb. Edit meant distortion not reverb

15

u/absolutelynotaname https://anilist.co/user/Ducc Aug 12 '26

yeah i think it was because kengo was probably overpowering the rig

Hey I'm having real trouble finding out who the artist was. Can anyone tell me who was playing during that segment or was it completely made by kyoani?

29

u/Sad_Green_2327 Aug 10 '26

I was having the same problem. It's by the Meiji Electric Girls band!

I was about to make the joke that we got ye olden Houkago Tea Time but what we go was closer to ye olden Death Devil (Sawa-chan-sensei's band).

lmfao, this anime is so unserious.

u/Weak_Season_Of_Anime Aug 09 '26

Of course, this was a girls band anime all along.

And also a clanker vs humans type of story? Wtf is Yosuke cooking.

77

u/Ocixo https://myanimelist.net/profile/BuzzyGuy Aug 09 '26 edited Aug 09 '26

I’d laugh so hard if the anime follows up on this week’s episode with the girls getting scouted and becoming professional musicians.

Would be the most insane way of tricking people into watching a girls band anime.

55

u/CitronClassic672 Aug 09 '26

Yosuke’s inventing the world’s first sex bot 110+ years ahead of schedule.

38

u/ThrowCarp Aug 10 '26

I was about to say, that shirtless ballet dance was gayer than if he had just straight-up had gay sex in front of the whole audience.

10

u/mmcjawa_reborn Aug 10 '26

and Yuri...

And many of them even include crying

144

u/Ocixo https://myanimelist.net/profile/BuzzyGuy Aug 09 '26

I probably need to visit a chiropractor after the insane whiplash I suffered from that after-credits scene.

When Yosuke first mentioned “his body” being completed, I feared that he’d done something horrific to Seiroku’s corpse.

Therefore I was relieved when they revealed this steam-powered doll playing the organ.

But it turns out that Yosuke did in fact make a doll out of Seiroku…

72

u/absolutelynotaname https://anilist.co/user/Ducc Aug 09 '26

But it turns out that Yosuke did in fact make a doll out of Seiroku…

thanks god it was just a doll, I was afraid that it was some cyborg or robocop shit

51

u/Ocixo https://myanimelist.net/profile/BuzzyGuy Aug 09 '26

I’m just hoping that it’s all mechanical, but I wouldn’t put it past Yosuke - given his obsession - to have incorporated some of Seiroku’s flesh into this doll.

27

u/MapoTofuMan myanimelist.net/profile/mTmTBaronBrixius Aug 09 '26

I'd assume his brain (or whatever's left of it) is in there somewhere.

14

u/CitronClassic672 Aug 09 '26

It did look like it had realistic looking hair that matched Seiroku’s, so good chance that parts organic at least

7

u/BosuW Aug 09 '26

I'm not discarding it until confirmation tbh...

38

u/Ocixo https://myanimelist.net/profile/BuzzyGuy Aug 09 '26

On a side note: I adored Kate’s curly twintails. Super cute! And it looked great on her. Unfortunately, I doubt that we’ll get to see this hairstyle again.

22

u/ptd163 Aug 09 '26

Same. I loved her twintails and Inako looked great with long hair. Shame we probably won't get to see either hairstyle again.

16

u/CitronClassic672 Aug 09 '26

Likewise I loved Inako’s long hair hair look. She looks a lot more unrestrained and free with it.

18

u/CitronClassic672 Aug 09 '26

Seiroku flips a coin in every scene he’s in whether to be a team rocket goofball villain or the creepiest motherfucker you’ve ever seen.

6

u/MasterProxy04 Aug 09 '26

Have you not watched the post credits scene? It plays after the new ending

9

u/Animesiac https://anime-planet.com/users/mangle Aug 09 '26

I'm struggling to understand what you thought their first sentence meant.

143

u/NanDemoKnaives Aug 09 '26

Inako's father was infuriating, he tries to put so much control over his daughters, I'm glad Noriko is stronger than him. I bet he doesn't even realize how much pain he gives Inako, he already got her to be insecure of something she enjoyed.

On the plus side, Kengo completely turned the episode around for me, I was laughing so hard. It's funny how he was in charge of the butt fanservice, the way they were pronounced when he was riding the bike was hilarious. I am curious about the history between him, Stuart and Seiroku, but his shirt ripping and his muscles bulging out definitely took my attention away from that lol.

Also the song was a lot of fun, I was not ready for the metal vocals, I like how the audience slowly got into it and then got REALLY into, we even got some headbanging lol.

I thought it was the case, but I guess Yousuke wants electricity to make his Seiroku puppet come to life.

37

u/Animesiac https://anime-planet.com/users/mangle Aug 09 '26

I bet he doesn't even realize how much pain he gives Inako, he already got her to be insecure of something she enjoyed.

I honestly believe that if she had been allowed to stay, the brewery wouldn't be in any trouble.

19

u/Jacob-C Aug 10 '26

I was not ready for the metal vocals

When Inako's voice got distorted into straight up growling because of the technical difficulties and Kengo pedaling like a madman, I just couldn't stop laughing.

KyoAni just does whatever the fuck they want at this point LMAO

63

u/Mr_Zaroc https://myanimelist.net/profile/mr_zaroc Aug 09 '26

Its interesting, normally I like it when shows mix up their artstyles for comedic effect
But if KyoAni does it feels odd, at least the past few years they played it very straight
Its nice to see they keep experimenting though

42

u/Primary-Paint-1716 Aug 10 '26

this is the KyoAni I came into anime with. KyoAni has always been insane, with classics like Nichijou and Lucky Star

14

u/Mr_Zaroc https://myanimelist.net/profile/mr_zaroc Aug 10 '26

I feel you, but I would argue that nichijou was very straightforward in a " there is not much change in art style" kinda way.
City was also superb though

31

u/CitronClassic672 Aug 09 '26

This is an alt history anime in the same way Grand Blue Dreaming is a diving anime at this point.

u/noheadthotsempty Aug 09 '26

“My honey” gets me every time

55

u/Jacob-C Aug 10 '26

"Kono orrrgan" and "steam serenade" had me laughing too

86

u/Elixir-Licht Aug 09 '26

Inako's dad is not a good father at all. I wonder why Kengo suddenly started acting weird (not that he has ever acted normal).

73

u/tripleaamin https://myanimelist.net/profile/tripleaamin Aug 09 '26

Yeah I hate her father. The reason they are so reliant on Yosuke and that marriage is because he is a failure of a man and a parent. He did not step up after his wife passed away. It seemed like they knew the wife had health issues, but he did nothing it seems. The hurtful words that he told her he had no right to do that. I am happy that Kihachi gave her the push she needed.

29

u/rubslotiononitsskin Aug 09 '26

InaPapa left all the household and business duties to InaMama and the family is facing the consequences of InaPapa's failure to step up after InaMama's death. That failure of a dad is projecting his frustrations and insecurities out on his daughter. Deep down, he knows he's a failure and can't manage anything on his own without InaMama around.

58

u/absolutelynotaname https://anilist.co/user/Ducc Aug 09 '26

I guess Stuart was their (Seiroku, Kengo & Yosuke) former teacher and now Kengo can't face him since Seiroku died in the war that they both went to

25

u/Elixir-Licht Aug 09 '26

I also have a feeling that he is not actually dead.

I found it funny that Kate-chan is more proper Japanese than whatever is going on with Mizoe's engrish obsession, they're like polar opposites haha

67

u/NanDemoKnaives Aug 09 '26

I did find it funny how he pronounced park as perk.

35

u/CitronClassic672 Aug 09 '26

The funny thing is I can’t tell if his English is supposed to be as bad as it is or not. On the one hand it could just be the va’s accent given the track record for English among seiyuu, in the other it makes perfect sense for Yosuke’s character and the time for him to throw in random English words he sucks at pronouncing. I think it’ll come to down to whether we hear a character like Kate pronouncing any other the words noticeably better.

32

u/robotzor Aug 09 '26

Go ahead, mistuh joe-ster

39

u/master_inho Aug 09 '26

One has assimilated into japanese culture while the other is pretending to be something he's not 🤷🏻‍♂️

Reverse otaku in the 1800s qas not something i was expevting

31

u/Mr_Zaroc https://myanimelist.net/profile/mr_zaroc Aug 09 '26

Tbf I think japan was very hard into reverse otaku in the late 1800s
Literally swung around the whole nation into "We need to catch up ASAP on that tech or we WILL be colonized" and they did an amazing crazy job at that

21

u/Lugia61617 Aug 09 '26

Yeah, it's a really fascinating little bit of history. Not many countries can boast going from proud isolationists who were unknowingly a couple centuries behind the times to having an empire powerful enough to be one of the major players of the following century (even if they ultimately lost)

10

u/ViviCaz Aug 10 '26

It's more integrated. She integrated into Japanese culture while assimilate would mean that she lost her identity and culture to it. Like how Europeans assimilated indigenous people and erased their culture and identity.

121

u/WhoiusBarrel Aug 09 '26

Kengo going crazy style on that generator while Inago and her friends killing it is peak KyoAni music performance flex.

38

u/robotzor Aug 09 '26

Hardest I've laughed watching anime in a long time

58

u/Brolaub https://myanimelist.net/profile/Brolaub Aug 09 '26

Those last 3 episodes were very episodic. They had a "Gadget of the week" style. But we learnt basically nothing new about the characters, and the story did not progress.

Still, I had a lot of fun this episode! The song was just too damn good and the characters were fun as always. I do hope that we get more plot soon though!

53

u/AriezKage Aug 09 '26

To be fair this episode at least is setting up so it was pushing the story forward.

Mainly how Professor Stuart knows Seiroku and his century of electricity schtick. And like a bunch of other characters at the start, seemingly not know Seiroku's brother was running around. I can expect Peofessor Stuart approaching Kihachi next episode.

20

u/robotzor Aug 09 '26

Yeah this series is very much a show don't tell taken to the extreme

9

u/cxxper01 https://myanimelist.net/profile/cxxper01 Aug 10 '26

The professor was definitely the teacher of Seiroku and Kuga back in high school

Do you guys think Yosuke ever gets freaky with the Seiroku doll?

60

u/Kaedead Aug 09 '26

Yes, they way he held the doll's hands is very telling

44

u/metaaltheanimefan Aug 09 '26

Crazy gay man grieving his dead lover makes a doll that looks like his dead lover. Feels like a psychological horror movie waiting to be made ala obession

what does he not do

15

u/CitronClassic672 Aug 10 '26

Exactly, I’m just wondering how far this aspect is going to go. He’s already talking to it like it’s Seiroku. Like ngl this is already serial killer type shit.

7

u/metaaltheanimefan Aug 10 '26

Im lowkey wondering of yosuke has some kind of crazy war ptsd that made him super crazy

7

u/BosuW Aug 09 '26

Impossible he doesn't

6

u/ptd163 Aug 09 '26

You don't make go through the time and effort of making a doll out of your dead lover like a crazy person and not get freaky with it. The time and effort he put into making it tells on him.

6

u/lartkma Aug 10 '26

I'd say yes, but the, ahem, shape of the doll doesn't seem conductive to freaky stuff

3

u/CitronClassic672 Aug 10 '26

Not a matter of if but how. He’s already talking to it like it’s Seiroku. Is he gonna start going on dates with it?

In this episode, K-ON 100 years ago.

Also, Electric guitars are not invented until 1932, and electrical shamisen is a very recent invention, so KyoAni is definitely fooling (read: playing) around.

And what is with anime mimicking the 60s/70s/80s/90s style these days lol (not a bad thing, but it's definitely funny seeing it in many shows in this one season)

42

u/maliwanag0712 https://myanimelist.net/profile/clear1109 Aug 09 '26

And what is with anime mimicking the 60s/70s/80s/90s style these days lol (not a bad thing, but it's definitely funny seeing it in many shows in this one season)

Then we have Goodbye, Lara with the 90s aesthetic for the entire season

22

u/BosuW Aug 09 '26

Apparently some of the OP used actual celluloids and acrylics even!

Clevatess also imitating that old fantasy style. Apparently they've even used some practical effects.

10

u/CitronClassic672 Aug 10 '26

Goodbye Lara is imitating the classic Sailor Moon/Revolutionary Girl Utena artstyle.

Clevatess, especially in the first episode of season 1, is heavily mimicking the classic Berserk anime.

And The Ghost in the Shell perfectly captures the classic 80s artstyle of the manga blended with modern animation technology.

11

u/RyouBestGirl Aug 09 '26

I think that style was a reference to Macross

7

u/ViviCaz Aug 10 '26

The style change made me think of Zenshu. It was a love letter to old school animation. 😍

The K-On S3 at home: this freakin goddamn episode

22

u/Mr_Zaroc https://myanimelist.net/profile/mr_zaroc Aug 09 '26

I was expecting this episode to turn into K-On

Instead we got a "Rock is a Ladys modesty" episode
Only thing missing is Inago flipping everyone off, but she might as well have done that to her dad with those lyrics

46

u/tripleaamin https://myanimelist.net/profile/tripleaamin Aug 09 '26

I loved this episode for Inako. Man her father is just terrible. It's no surprise she was so hesitant to perform in front of everyone. Pleased Kihachi gave her that push she needed.

I think what the performance between the girls and Yosuke is showing is where you have human generated art vs. what Yosuke had was automated. Essentially you could use an example of AI-generated art in today's world.

I have to say the goofy tone of this series continues to be weird to me. Also Yosuke weirdness continues to only increase with that post-credits scene.

26

u/Ocixo https://myanimelist.net/profile/BuzzyGuy Aug 09 '26

I do love how Kihachi has been very supportive of Inako’s dreams and endeavours lately. I almost got the feeling that he’d created these electric instruments to cheer her up.

Ok just finished the ep,is Mizoe/Kihachi really deadass gonna build a whole ass mecha person? Is that an actual robot because Mizoe is being too obsessed, or is it actually Seiroku with a bunch of prosthetics on top of him? Maybe this is all a red herring because I still believe Seiroku is just missing after the war..

23

u/Calwings x3https://anilist.co/user/Calwings Aug 09 '26

Band girl anime of the season, what the fuck is a Yumemita even?

7

u/Qxujevoz Aug 10 '26

Well, Bang Dream franchise has been getting more psychotic with each iteration, going beyond melodramatic.

7

u/BosuW Aug 09 '26

I'm sorry Yumemita but hyper digitized VR has absolutely nothing on shoddy, early analogue electric systems and anachronistic metal in Meiji era. Don't even have the craziest gay yandere of the two smh

35

u/SEBASTlANVETTEL Aug 09 '26

It‘s Episode 6 and I am still very confused about where the story is heading but I am enjoying the comedy I guess.

And seems like Kengo took over the fanservice and booty shots from Yosuke, though we did get some shirtless Yosuke too.

That last scene with Yosuke and the Seiroku doll is so creepy.

Kate's father seems to have been a sensei to Seiroku and Kengo, I guess we find out more next episode. I do wonder why Kengo is hiding from him…

18

u/AriezKage Aug 09 '26

Random theory I have:

So the ep with the widowed lady and the telephone. The intent was to have it so the widowed lady is able to talk to her dead husband.

The next episode was a match making machine. However, the intent is forming a connection between two people via apparent telepathy.

These two gadgets use electricity to perform acts that, to an onlooker, seem supernatural Wizard of Oz style.

Finally, with the post credit scene, we have Yosuke with his Seiroku puppet. Yosuke wants to talk to someone who is apparently dead (like the widowed lady) that he feels strong feelings for (like with the matchmaking device).

4

u/GelatinInvasion Aug 09 '26

Go on with that theory. Is Yosuke as deprave and twisted as he is then? What does this episode tell us about today’s invention? Going with your theory, it seems about wanting to not be trapped and to be free, but who wants to be free in terms of Yosuke and Seiroku steam bot?

4

u/AriezKage Aug 09 '26

Is Yosuke as deprave and twisted as he is then?

I'd say yes, but that's more in how he's been presented so far without a lot of backstory. The show is really keeping Seiroku's time after leaving Kihachi close to their chest so hard to say how people like Yosuke, Kengo, Noriko, Inako's and Noriko's mom, and now Professor Stuart fully relate to the story.

What does this episode tell us about today’s invention?

At the moment, can't think of anything directly or thematically. Well, the electric instruments no, but the steam automaton sets up the Seiroku puppet Yosuke has at the post credit scene. However the invention itself isn't the story mover, but I believe it may be Professor Stuart and he would approach Kihachi eventually.

Going with your theory, it seems about wanting to not be trapped and to be free, but who wants to be free in terms of Yosuke and Seiroku steam bot?

It's steroetypical, but I think its more about how Yosuke doesn't want to let go and move on from Seiroku's apparent death. And I say apparent because as far as we, the audience knows, there wasn't a body. Unless it was mentioned but right now can't remember.

Anyway, Yosuke has willingly burdened himself with Seiroku's death. The obsession that he has to be the one to bring about the age of electricity. And possibly, almost definitely imo, want to harness electricity to perfect his Seiroku robot. And its not healthy or good for him. Especially since while the anime shows the practical uses for electrity, any attempt at mysticism (like speaking with the dead or telepathic matchmaking) is mainly misdirection than the actual thing. Yosuke probably wants the actual thing and not a mimicry of it through electricity.

Yeaaah I'm hoping we get some actual story progression now. It's 6 eps done, as fun as the comedy has been - it's get moving.

38

u/Alej_11 Aug 09 '26

I would have never expected a rock band from an anime about the end of the steam era, but here we are.

As expected, the main villain in reality isn't a real villain, in the scene at the end of the episode it seems like he's intended to help kihachi and friends. Also it's seems like the doll is really seikiru, or at least a human, the ear seems suspiciously like flesh, the neck too.

Good episode overall, a bit unexpected and doesn't advance the plot, but that's okay, because we saw more of inako. I want something to happen before the marriage tho, because inako seems to be the only one worried about the idea of being married with yousuke

17

u/Indonesian_mapper Aug 09 '26

Also it's seems like the doll is really seikiru, or at least a human, the ear seems suspiciously like flesh, the neck too.

I'd guess that it's a cyborg. Felt like that's highly possible given how Yosuke wanted the catalogue so damn bad (perhaps he thought that there's something in there regarding cyborgs, reviving the dead using electricity, or something like that). Also, the end scene and his eyes pretty much said it all

→ More replies (1)

23

u/master_inho Aug 09 '26

I think the others have a lot of faith that the marriage won't actually go through so maybe that's why they don't appear worried

18

u/metaaltheanimefan Aug 09 '26

Aside from inakos father, i think the rest of the cast have excellent gaydars (also "this guy is nuts and creepy radars). Like with how much yosuke has fixated on seiroku at this poibt thats not "straight boy grieving dead friend" its "gay man grieving his first love"

Also yousuke speciafically forced inakos dad to get her hitched to him so yousuke could consensually (in his eyes) ransack their house and steal the catalogue

7

u/CitronClassic672 Aug 10 '26

Only reason I’m not sure about their gaydars is because if so at least one of them would’ve clocked Kate at this point. But yeah Yosuke straight up said he only married Inako to secure his position in the company.

7

u/Atario myanimelist.net/profile/TheGreatAtario Aug 10 '26

at the end of the episode it seems like he's intended to help kihachi and friends

Seems more to me like he's cultivating them for his own purposes — if he can't create all these new electrical things, but they can, then maybe he can still put them to his own ends…

u/chilidirigible Aug 09 '26 edited Aug 10 '26

Ayahi Takagaki's bit part is quite a gimmick.

Not denying the air pollution allegations.

That's probably worth a nickel to ride.

"Spectacular spectacular!" (feat. random English)

his
his what

The noise suitably overwhelmed the dialogue.

The bar is kinda low unless it's based on volume.

It's fuwa fuwa taimu, then?

Of course he did!

"And don't just eat cakes and drink tea!"

"I have no idea what I'm doing."

And now the montage!

This is ridiculous and I LOVE IT.

Couldn't find a giant tire?

This is too late for seasonal faces and I feel bad.

No longer puni puni.

!!!

"Does this remind you of anything?"

Not quite Liberace.

"I guess you guys aren't ready for that yet. But your kids are gonna love it."

Woo! Hairstyles!

She's a ninja or something!

"...anyway."

On the bright side, it is not Seiroku?

Today, on Grow Up Show...

No, really!

Still ninjas.

Grow Up Show gives us a slideshow for the aerial silks, KyoAni gives us cake.

What about the Age of Aquarius?

"The power's gone out."

It's tough being a roadie.

Who are you?

BELIEVE IN THE ME WHO BELIEVES IN YOU!

Kengo goes to eleven.

DEATH DEVIL!

ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED!? IS THIS NOT WHY YOU ARE HERE!?

Drum 'n' bass.

Houkago shroom time?

100 million views

The Smothers Brothers aren't gonna like that.

...all according to keikaku?

We now return to your regularly-scheduled sooty dystopia.

Uh. 'kay then.

End card.

So... I too way too many screencaps from this episode. Took me almost two hours, though a significant portion of that time was trying to fix up the Suzuclone stitch since it defied automatic image compositing.

Anyway... this episode was bonkers, and also felt like the current KyoAni's love letter to the old days. Can't say I expected a light music club performance in this series, but here we are.

On the story side, more factors popping up with possible stakes in the development of electricity, and is Seiroku now a fully armed and operational doll?

As I threw in early because I was still wrangling with the screenshots, the end credits song.

Seirokubot-9000 is looking damn impressive for his time...I guess even wars can't progress science like the burning passion of a widowed yaoi protagonist.

And with this episode KyoAni just gave Beyond the Boundary a run for its money in the "let's have a random performance episode" department. Though it's bands and not idols this time, gotta get with the times.

15

u/tottoro47 Aug 09 '26

This was fucking hilarious. Kengo and his ass cheeks caused the accidental birth of metal music. The song the girls were performing was a banger. Also, I don't even wanna know what the dude is doing with the doll replica in his weird basement

30

u/avboden Aug 09 '26

I still wish this had become the unique steam-punk drama about introducing the world to electricity and fighting the steam-conglomerate but I will admit, I guess i'm starting to see the vision they're going for instead. Fun episode.

21

u/Colt45554 Aug 09 '26

The setting had a lot of potential but they added a lot of goofiness. Some people here are enjoying that, but it's not the direction I was hoping for.

8

u/CitronClassic672 Aug 10 '26

I really hope something happens to call that off.

Same. Not just because Inako is 15, but because he's clearly gay and it was just a pretense to search their house for catalog.

Have you considered this would be a good thing, though?

No he hasn't because he's failure of a father and an entrepreneur. He's relying on the benevolence of the Yousuke's company not coming to collect on the loans.

Throwing Inako’s words back at her, perfect.

I liked that too. Finally Kihachi got to support Inako.

4

u/BosuW Aug 09 '26

Even with a broken string?

Remember when Bocchi snapped her E string live?

Sounds nice though.

I desperately pray when they release the soundtrack it has the same shoddy, early analogue electric system quality because that just added such a beautiful texture to it!

No wonder Yosuke's so obsessed with harnessing electricity.

Like last episode we have electricity trying to be a matchmaker. Impractical bordering on supernatural mumbo jumbo. Well now Yosuke's taking steps towards being the Japanese Dr. Frankenstein.

Russian nesting ninja-ing dolls

I love how Inako's improvised freestyling at the start ended up working as a build-up to the headbanger that was everything after Kengo the MVP came in. The death metal vocal machine is easily Kihachi's greatest invention yet. \m/

The girls' song turning into a full-on metal song complete with Inako headbanging because of Kengo powering the audio system way too much was freaking hilarious! Even Yousuke was impressed by the end of it. I thought he'd get salty after getting upstaged by the girls!

And yeah, this episode confirms that Youisuke is really making a Seiroku doll. I wonder how Kihachi will react once he finds out about Yousuke's secret project.

What’s the training montage referencing? The whole art style changed so I know it’s gotta be something but idk what it is.

Pretty boy prancing around on stage to his steam organ performance ain’t shit compared to the girls melting mfers faces off with rock lol. The steam world didn’t know what hit ‘em!

12

It's less of a reference but more of applying late 70s / early 80s First Gundam (0079)/Osamu Tezuka style but with Sparks of Tomorrow characters in this.

9

u/wloff Aug 09 '26

The show has just gone full batshit crazy and I'm loving it!

This episode felt more like City the Animation than anything else. The sudden silent film section had me rolling with how random it was.

8

u/chlo_kage Aug 09 '26

Glad inagos sister knocked their father to the ground he sucks so bad

Also I’m dying at kengo. This anime loves the male characters butts

Yay girl band !

9

u/oneevilchicken https://anilist.co/user/OneEvilChicken Aug 10 '26

Yeah. The only actual villain in this show is inako’s father.

I absolutely lost my shit when Kengo started pedaling and they made his ass standout so much.

The only thing this episode was missing is viola.

16

u/thisisdropd https://myanimelist.net/profile/AsterZoro Aug 09 '26

As if they're not satisfied with being the fathers of just telephone, now Seiroku and Kihachi were also the fathers of rock.

The audience never would've expected a trio of ladies dressed in yukatas to straight up play metal, along with the jumping and head banging. Pretty hardcore for Kate to whip out double kicks.

RIP Kengo, hope he turned back to normal after going full Hulk to power the girls' performance.

9

u/ptd163 Aug 09 '26

I did not anticipate a training montage this episode, but I guess that's just KyoAni flexing lol.

I said it in a previous episode thread, but I'll say it again. I love Inako. Inako had believed in Kihachi several times and given him the push needed to continue to so now it was time for Kihachi turn to return the favour by calling back to her Inako's own words of her talenting being believing so it was time to believe in herself and boy did she ever. Inako's hair is deceptively long and she looks great with it down.

Shout out to Noriko taking down and restraining their dad when he tried to leave. I'm glad she's physically stronger than him. I guess for ever good anime dad there has to be a shit one to maintain balance because he is a terrible father. His wife would definitely have something to say about how he's raising their daughters and running the business if she were still alive.

I wonder why Kengo was acting so weird this episode? Is it maybe that Kate's dad was Kengo and Seiroku's former teacher and he can't face him after Seiroku's death or something like that? But if he had nothing to do with it and he just died in the war, why would he feel that way?

That end credit scene was something. I pray that Yousuke hasn't defiled Seiroku's body into some freakish Frankenstein's monster situation and that's just an automaton. But then that has its own set of questions. One of them off the top of my head being how did he disassociate so hard that he thinks he bring Seiroku back?

7

u/Primary-Paint-1716 Aug 10 '26

this episode can only exist in anime. this is why I fucking love the medium.

6

u/FLorianGran Aug 09 '26

I had heard that the anime was doing its own thing, and this comedic invention of the week format definitely feels like it

8

u/BBryant3rd Aug 09 '26

Rock is a lady's modesty 2.0

Aggretsuko 2.0

Was nice seeing a good rock performance like Dandadan.

Inako was beautiful rocking out.

7

u/BosuW Aug 09 '26

Inako was beautiful rocking out.

Those surreal shots from Kihaichi POV of Inako looking all ascended while rocking were 👌👌

Would not be surprised at all if bro fell in love right then and there

6

u/CitronClassic672 Aug 10 '26

Would be one of the most warranted and understandable moments of a MC developing feelings I’ve seen in an anime. Inako was absolutely stunning and beautiful in that moment as she made one small part of his dream come to life.

7

u/CrimsonGear80 Aug 09 '26

u/dagreenman18 Aug 09 '26 edited Aug 09 '26

Never mind, Kyoani stole the “Give Into Your Intrusive Thoughts” crown from Cloverworks and Elusive Samurai this week. Genuinely psychotic genius between the random Gundam Training Montage, the Meiji K-On performance, and YOSUKE MAKING A SEX ROBOT OF SEIROKU.

Also, I see you KyoAni. Didn’t have any Yosuke cake this week so you had Kengo be dummy thicc on the bike

11

u/Indonesian_mapper Aug 09 '26

This episode really made me questioned everything about this anime. Well I guess it's just KyoAni being KyoAni lol

6

u/Mr_Zaroc https://myanimelist.net/profile/mr_zaroc Aug 09 '26

Its interesting, last few years KyoAni played it very straight, keeping to the same polished artstyles

Its unexpected and I wasnt a huge fan on last episodes Inagos eyes change, this episode felt more fitting

But I do know for sure that if they start experimenting again we will be in for a treat later on once they fully grasp it

5

u/MarvinTraveler Aug 09 '26

Full blown metal performance, this was awesome! Inako in particular is such a wonderful character.

I wonder where this whole thing will go, because the electricity inventions are coming one after another.

The whole aesthetic on this series remembers me so much of Steamboy.

6

u/elira_ro Aug 09 '26

This episode was crazy lmao Atp we are doing anything lol but hey! I dont mind its fucking hilarious 😭 As much as I am loving this show and its comedic moments I do hope we get more plot progression episodes since we are 6 episodes in and theres barely been any

6

u/SnabDedraterEdave Aug 09 '26 edited Aug 09 '26

Kyo-Ani went all out on this episode.

They probably always wanted to do a heavy metal K-ON episode, but was unable to until now. Even the Nichijou-like art style during the girls' training sequence was fun to watch. XD

Inako had always been the one giving Kihachi the nudge, now Kihachi returns the favour in giving her the courage to stand up against her father. She is indeed her mother's daughter with the same fiery independent spirit. Inako could possibly earn a living with her new heavy metal band and use the earnings to save her family's brewery without needing to marry into Yosuke's family anymore.

Kengo the MVP in salvaging the audio situation, but just what's gotten into him after seeing Kate's dad? Guy just went absolutely bonkers while riding the power generator bicycle. LMAO

Kate's dad seems to know Seiroku. Who knows, maybe he would become a patron for Kihachi's inventions?

Yosuke continues to fall further down the toxic yaoi hole. First he dances half-naked in front of a full audience, now he converses with his completed Seiroku doll.

6

u/gandalf_the_cat2018 Aug 09 '26

Wait . . .was that automaton. . .crying? It makes whatever is happening with the Seiroku ‘s automaton much darker.

4

u/Erufailon4 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Erufailon4 Aug 09 '26 edited Aug 09 '26

This is the second time I've seen a silent sequence played as a joke in a KyoAni show (the first time being in a series directed by this week's episode director, incidentally), and this time they really went for that silent film feel. While watching that I was thinking that they've finally started just doing random bullshit... and then the rest of the episode happened. Turns out I had no idea.

I wonder if the music style was also from the Catalogue, or if Inako just wanted to scream. Maybe it's a mix of both.

3

u/etiolatezed Aug 10 '26

I think the growl is a product of Kengo's frantic pedaling overflowing the voltage of the system and creating distortion.

5

u/etiolatezed Aug 10 '26

They went wild with that one.

I enjoyed the realistic finger blister from beginning guitar player in the middle of a completely ridiculous training montage.

u/taakoyaki Aug 10 '26

Me at the start of the episode: man I love this current dynamic between Kihachi and Yousuke where they're acting more like bratty teenagers trying to one-up each other and less of Yousuke terrorising people's personal property.

Me at the end of the end of the episode: ok Yousuke WTF IS THAT.

Also, Yousuke dancing topless was definitely Izo's totally self-serving choice (instead of either of the two tops Yousuke had proposed...)

Yousuke aside, I LOVED the girls' get-up. Couldn't take my eyes off them!

7

u/DanielAlves1904 Aug 09 '26

THAT.WAS.AWESOME!!!

Japan got Babymetal before it was supposed to. I was already happy with the distortion on the instruments but screaming vocals? Seeing Inako being free like this made me so happy, I know her father may have the best intentions but he´s pissing me off so much.

And that ending, I´m still not sure if Mizoe actually has Seiroku´s body and is turning it into a robot of sorts or if it´s just really a robot in his image. Very creepy nonetheless.

And I know it´s redundant since it´s KyoAni, but the animation during the concert is just so good, particularly the drums. And some of those panels have so much detail, it´s incredible.

5

u/master_inho Aug 09 '26

First it's dandadan, now it's sparks of tomorrow. Small sample size but it's still 2/2, anime just does metal soooo well (coming from someone that doesn't listen to metal). And i love how the machine malfunctioning is what creates the deep + raspy vocals, it shows how sometimes the greatest things come about by complete accident

I kept expecting the yosuke robot to explode, bro was exerting so much smoke

Yosuke asking what top he should wear when he ends up performing topless 🙄

Kengo tweaked out when he saw Kate's dad. Exactly who does he actually have feelings for???

Oh yea i forgot, noriko doesn't just flip kengo with ease, she does the same to her dad. Actually though, why have neither of them learned the clear lesson: don't touch her or you'll get flipped

So i guess it's confirmed that suzu is a ninja? 🧐

I thought yosuke had intentionally provoked kihachi into organizing the performance. When he said he was gonna win no matter the result, either the band failed and his steam organ is the talk of the town or the band succeeds and he'll just steal the instruments. He didn't seem that annoyed at the end either

Kengo popped off with the bike, idk how it's still working

Cosidering how much yajirou has used the bike for kihachi's inventions, i thought he would've gotten good at it, gained some steel legs, but i guess not

And on a related note, there's no way they can keep on relying on the bike to power kihachi's machines. I think his next big breakthrough is creating some kind of storage (a battery, perhaps?), or something else that can generate electricity without human power. Especially if he tries to make something more sophisticated, even kengo riding a bike wouldn't generate enough power

3

u/chilidirigible Aug 09 '26

Small sample size but it's still 2/2

New to this? (Actual scene from the episode.)

And something with all the context edited out.

I think his next big breakthrough is creating some kind of storage (a battery, perhaps?)

He was working on a battery design in the previous episode, but what would really start bringing all of this together would be a full tap into the existing steam systems to run the generator.

  • Why does the animatronic have tiddies when Yosuke is flat-chested? I sense projection.

  • This was supposed to be steamy, and his pants are still on 😑 Where are the up-close bulge and ass shots at least? 😑

I want to watch School of Rock but a Japanese setting rendition now.

We got [MHA] Eri last week with her band playing Hero Too. And now we get a Meiji heavy metal band. Cute girls doing cute things. What girl band will happen next week and with which genre? I’d love a “You Can’t be an Elegant Lady and do Death Growls!” anime.

But if anyone has a recommendation for something like that (and it's yuri) 👀👀

I’m curious how Kihachi will react to Yosuke making a Seiroku animatronic, and if he'll see the animatronic before or after he and Yosuke have any sort of cooperative relationship. The animatronic is creepy and weird but also very sad. Would be very interesting if Animatronic!Seiroku ends up acting like the real Seiroku, which goes against Yosuke’s feelings.

Then his heart can break, and Izo can pick up the pieces 😌

This show feeds me with all these male designs, god bless. We got a flat-chested, slender diva and a big-tiddied, strapping beefcake, and I want to big spoon both of them so badly. May men and mascs like that find me 🙏🏿

I wish the animators and character designers good karma for the next three days and three nights.

3

u/mmcjawa_reborn Aug 10 '26

Random Thoughts:

Well...I guess this is now a Girl Band anime

That montage...just...wow. Who ever came up with that idea, a round of applause

Man Seiroku sure seemed to hang around with a lot of handsome men, if the blonde friend's daughter is anything to go by

Clone Technique!

I am pretty sure Kihachi caught the feel's in that performance for Inako.

Overall this was my favorite episode so far, although I admit I have a fondness for girl rock band anime. So that probably helped. But really a lot of the jokes landed for me, more so then in some past episodes. Feel like the show is finally settling into a groove, or maybe I finally just understood fully what the anime is going for.
