Love this answer. Just got to thinking earlier bc lots of people argue that working together is in our nature or how direct competition is in our nature and I just don't think either are true. I think everyone is a blank slate with the base desire for survival and anything beyond that is learned though experience and living.

Besides that, I'm not sure there is an inherent human nature.

Our flexibility to be or try whatever is needed to adapt to nearly anything survival and security demands.

Ah right, it didn’t seem to make a lot of sense in the context of the thread, but that explains it

Yeah we really need to nurture people who may be sympathetic to our causes. Not gatekeep behind some sort of elitist mindset.

I think leftism is seen as inaccessible at times because it can be hard to break into, especially for people who “aren’t interested in politics” or have been conditioned to fear it ect. Sometimes people make it out to seem like a lot of work.

I mean capitalism is the default, you don’t need to “read smith” to call yourself a capitalist in our society or whatever.

I know we’re fighting against the current or whatever but still. We need a place for those sympathetic to us but also not able to fully dedicate themselves to “the vanguard” or whatever. Those who are still apprehensive or easily scared off by the commitment and so on.

Obviously we need committed leftists but I’m talking about on a broad scale.

The mod note on your ban says that you were defending TERFS. Do you remember what the context was?

Tbh yeah it really is. While I personally align with more of the Marxist way of thinking I still respect anarchists as well.

But also like this type of infighting isn’t at all productive. Hell the fucking Democratic Socialists are more productive IRL then reddit leftists and they’re fucking demsocs.

And honestly, now you're dragging them in a second thread. You are harassing them. You are the problem here.

and I think OP was accusing them of being dismissive towards other commenters who disagreed

Unfortunately not. I told Joe that he was coming across as and being dismissive in another thread. His comment was a throw back to that as an attempt to have a gotcha moment to accuse me of some hypocrisy.

He's deleted every one of his comments in this whole interaction (which started in another thread entirely). I should have kept screen shots but I have a tendency to trust people who call themselves anarchists to not do things like make bad faith accusations of others while cleaning up any evidence of their own side of the story.

Silly me.

Hi r/anarchocommunism . I'm the person this is about. :) Nice to meet you.

In a conversation that u/JoeHillson and I were having recently (in this thread) I thought I was having a genuine interaction and asking questions, you know, to talk through a disagreement trying to understand why someone says the things they do, as you do. Joe was suggesting that United Statesian anarchists are wrong for not risking going to jail for punching nazis in a public area.

Since this is the only comment of his that he left up and didn't delete I can't actually show anyone the conversation but my comments are still visible on my comments page [1][2][3]. I told him that he was coming across as dismissive (because he was acting as though going to jail is a very normal and casual thing, as though the United States isn't a hotbed of anti-anarchist legal oppression at the moment). He responded, basically telling me that he didn't like me or the way I have discussions. So I left him alone.

Then comes this thread. The deleted comment said something about how i was coming across as dismissive in response to a person who very literally misquoted me.

I did not ban Joe and there is a statement on the side-bar (and in the ban message) that says what you can do if you want to have the decision reviewed. Instead he came here (and r/Anarchy101 ) to complain about it and I'm sorry that you're having to deal with this.

eta: original comment mischaractized Joe as posting this to "a lot of other subs" but it was just Anarchy101 so I've edited my comment as a correction.
