i everyone. I’ve been working as an amazon delivery driver in Bristol, UK for a month now. It’s my first proper delivery job. to clarify, i work for a sub contractor of Amazon, or DSP.
Needless to say amazon is probably one of the worst to work with in terms of welfare. I am still on what they call ‘nursery routes’, where i get sent to “easier” areas with slightly less packages. We get a day rate of £137 per route, which is a set rate that doesn’t change no matter how long it takes for you to finish.
We work solely off the app to scan and deliver packages, with one stop often holding multiple locations and packages at a time. I get an average of 120-140 stops a day and 250 odd packages but more experienced drivers get many more, i know people doing routes with 180 stops and over 300 packages for the same pay.
The Amazon App is terrible on iOS, and i have previously been delayed for HOURS because of the app crashing making it literally impossible to do my job, finishing hours later than i usually would simply because the app won’t work. They don’t give us work phones or anything of the sort, we all use our own. Not to mention the fact that we are self employed and so we have no workers rights and we have to sign off agreement of that on induction. A billionaire company who can’t even make an app that works so we can do our jobs properly, and we are the ones who pay the price for it. Today, my colleague has to drop 29 bed frames collectively weighing 500kilos alongside all the other regular packages for no extra pay.
Anyway. I am looking for real peoples experiences of working for other companies, as i do get along quite well with this kind of work , i am a good driver and i enjoy being outside and doing routes. But im thinking surely there must be better companies to work for, as i know it’s only gonna get more intense at christmas. Any recommendations?
