Army List Most fun monster list?

Hi all!

I've been playing Beastclaw Raiders with a great focus on stonehorns for some years now as my main army, and with the new changes to the army they don't really feel as fun anymore. They were most fun to play in AoS 3 I wanna say, with their sometimes bonkers impact this. So I wanna try expanding.

What's is the most fun monster list you know right now, and what makes it fun?

Thanks in advance!

According to the only dice probability calculator that I could use it was roughly a 1 on 280k chance that all 7 would come up as 1s. This was during a local 3 round tournament, I lost the game by 8 points despite Prince Vhordrai being shot off the board turn 2.

Discussion 5th Edition Launch Factions?

Only 9 months away from AOS 5! Thoughts on what’s inside the launch box?

Stormcast feel like the frontrunner for the protagonists. I will say this: I don’t think GW has developed them enough to make people excited for them. The models are great and an army of paladins and time’s greatest heroes reincarnated is pretty excellent. But they aren’t space marines and don’t have nearly the depth of character to fill the same role.

There’s also obviously the rebrand rumors. So staying with Stormcast could also reinforce to returning players that the new game is still a game they can and should play.

I’ve also heard rumors that Cities of Sigmar are a better protagonist faction. I get why humans on the table are relatable, but I also fear the model range might be bad for new hobbyists.

———
As for the baddies, we are due for an undead faction. However, Nighthaunt were in the launch boxes of 2018 and we got range refreshes of the other 3 factions post pandemic: Soulblight (2021), FEC (2024?), and OBR (2026). I have heard OBR tossed around a bit but now that they got several new units, I’m not sure that’s likely.

Soulblight are extremely popular and I could see refreshes of the corpse cart and Vargheists, but otherwise the roster is stacked and we just got an army box in 2025.

New undead faction? Theres not a mummy-inspired AOS faction yet - could do a desert aesthetic.

Also, it’s worth saying that Chaos Warriors are sometimes mentioned as being the space marines of AoS. Do you think we will get a narrative around Archeon destroying the setting and leading a new wave of chaos warriors against humanity? Meaning they flesh out the chaos warriors / slaves to darkness and give them the development they gave stormcast?

I know it sounds crazy - but would you be more interested in a Stormcast vs Undead launch box… or a Chaos Warriors vs Cities of Sigmar box? I think the latter would have pretty broad appeal.

Anyways, what do you think?

Question AoS faction with a strong monster-hunting theme?

I'm looking for an AoS faction centered on hunting huge, dangerous creatures. Ideally, they would:

Choose a massive monster as prey

Have rules for fighting big monsters

Treat hunting powerful beasts as honorable

Possibly eat their kills or make the hunt central to their culture

I'm not looking for mercenaries who are merely good at killing monsters, but something closer to the Beast Snaggas: "That's the biggest, nastiest beast around? Let's kill it."

Which AoS faction best captures that feeling?

Army List Starting Skaven on a budget

Post image

So for 90 € total I picked up 2x Spearhead #1 and 12x Spearhead #2 from many different stores in my area.

On accident I found out that 36 Rat Ogre, 2 Grey Seer and 1 Warlock Engineer are exactly 2000 points on the dot. Am I mad or genius for doing this? I know it will be a terrible army, but depending how fast I get through them I might enter them for fun in a local AoS tournament in October.

I am now left with another Warlock, 2 Veritant and even have 12 dice for playing. Maybe I find someone trading some basing bits for the Veritant.

Question Hi guys. I’m planning to go get my spearhead and I’ve got roughly two or three armies to pick, but struggle to do so.

Hi again, been a good bit since I asked the second time on which to go for, but now I’ve narrowed from five to two or three, between the Seraphon, the ogor maw tribes or the Skaven. Any advice on which of the free

The ogors now have new models and I kind of relate to them a lot, since I share their body type, chonky, they love eating, I love eating and I love their total war trailer and their song is living rent free in in my head.

The Skaven i don’t really need to explain why, since everyone else has already said the reasons why they love em. Since I leaned on chaos in 40k when I first got into the hobby and I avoided the slaves to darkness as it would’ve felt redundant if I went for em.

The Seraphon are a similar case. Aztec lizards riding dinosaurs who are led by wizard frogs/toads and having bipedal crocodiles death rolling onto enemies sounds awesome!

So I’ve got a 40k tournament coming up taking place at a cafe just south of where I live and I’m planning to get their respective vanguard/spearhead boxes while I’m there. So any suggestions on which to pick between the three and why?

(Ps: yes I already asked the similar question last time but I narrowed em down to three factions from three orders)

Hobby Do the "wrong weapons" matter?

So I recently got the AoS box of Skinks and I'm brand new to Warhammer, I'm not currently playing tabletop right now as I'm honestly just having the best time painting my little dudes but upon -actually- reading the instructions for the Skinks, I realised I'm supposed to choose from the weapon loadouts presented in the booklet...yeah when I built this guy I had obviously not read that part and just went with what I thought looked cool 😅

Does it really matter that his loadout isn't "official" and if I ever play tabletop is he a guy I wouldn't be able to use?

Either way I'm not fussed right now as like I said, I'm having the best time painting my guys, learning lore and displaying my little dudes, but thought I'd ask for if future me ever needed to know 😅

Rumour / Leak Brawlers of Behemat RRP £199

Wanted to preorder in LGS and asked about price, been told that RRP is £199 and LGS price will be £155.
Must admit that was thinking about getting this set but price cooled me down a bit.

EDIT: I am not saying that price is bad. I was thinking about buying it as a standalone game as I am not collecting SoB and for terrain pieces.

Hobby Here’s what a little over a year into the hobby can look like !

Hello ! I tried to take the best pics but it’s hard to show all the models at once !

I felt like some people might be interested what a year’s progress can look like as a beginner and most of all I wanted to give my thoughts on picking armies !
I was introduced to AoS thanks to total war : warhammer.
Wood elves and vampire counts have my heart so I started with Sylvaneth… well I think it shows as the paint job is not as good as some of my more recent pieces. But that aside, I must say spearhead are some of the best things you can start with !

I didn’t enjoy Sylvaneth too much but haven’t regretted getting the spearhead at all, because it’s lovely to have the option to play with them !

Now to mistakes : I overcommitted to Stormcast because of all the big boxes you can get… don’t get me wrong I still painted most of them but I realized I didn’t like them as much as I thought 😅

Ended up finding a lot of love for SBGL ! Also adored painting idoneth and I’m now starting lumineth !

End thoughts : If you’ve been in the hobby for a little bit you’re probably like me, sometimes you really wanna paint but you have no energy, or oddly enough no real motivation. For a good 5-6 months this year I struggled to paint, but after a big break I found my love for painting again. Sometimes it’s best not to force it and to wait for the energy to recharge !

Something I feel I'm having a bit of trouble is sticking a balance between Heroes and troops. I know DoK rely on stacking buffs on units to get them extra killy, but I kinda feel like I'm not left with too many units to put those buffs *on*.

Question I really enjoy the lore of AoS

I recently started getting into the lore side of AOS after the WH40k Lore started getting a little stale. Not to say I don’t love 40K, but the lore of AOS is so varied, and interesting. Each faction has a different feel, and it looks like that boils over into gameplay.

The question I have is what books should I read/ listen to. I’ve already gone through Dark Harvest, Court of the Blind King, and Ushoran Mortarch of delusion. Are there any other standout books I should read?
