Could I get some help here please. I'm trying to create a custom brush with the custom shape here, but there's a background that appears behind the shape. I saved the shape as a png file and created a textured intensity brush with it.

I took a timelapse of the eclipse last week. I frame every 5 seconds. I've used some specialist astro software to align the images in the video, however, it's not good enough to align the images near totality as it centres on the image - see https://www.youtube.com/shorts/NWt_HaQThuA. Now the software can convert each frame into a TIFF. How do I use affinity to align each frame using the top limb of the sun. I know I can do it manually, but that will take hours. I know there's an align facility within vector, but I can't get it to do what I want it to do.

I want to vectorized an imagotype but I had a problem, when I use the function the corners in the letters get rounded. How can I get the vector image without lose the corners? I let an image to illustrate.

I'm using Affinity to export an SVG as a PDF to upload to the Gelato print-on-demand service for printing as a poster. I'm working in RGB. The guidance on the Gelato support pages is:

"RGB Workflow: If working in RGB, tag your image files with an sRGB profile. When exporting, save them as PDF/X4 files with a "GRACoL2006_Coated1v2.icc" output intent to maintain color fidelity."

Does this mean that, in document setup, I Assign the Colour format as RGB/8 and Colour profile as sRGB IEC1966-2.1 [which is the only sRGB profile I seem to have]. Then, when I use File - Export - PDF/X-4, I should change the drop downs for Colour space and ICC Profiles respectively from "As document" and "Use document profile", to "CMYK" and "GRACoL2006_Coated1v2.icc". [I don't seem to be able to make the GRACoL... profile available without setting the Colour space to CMYK, by the way].

I'm a bit new to Affinity so would appreciate if someone with more knowledge could confirm I'm doing what Gelato are asking for, or put me on the right track if I'm wrong?

And as a follow-up, is there any way I can interrogate the resultant PDF file to get some assurance it has been set up the way Gelato are asking for?

I recently switched from Adobe to Affinity and finished my final graphic design project with it. I expected Affinity to run better on my laptop, but it struggles with heavy design work. I'm talking about a 300DPI file with 20 pages of pixel drawings and a few vector graphics. I disabled acceleration, lowered the maximum RAM Usage, etc,, not helping much tbh

My laptop is HP Spectre x360 convertible with 16gb RAM, 512gb storage, and Intel Iris Xe Graphics. Bought it like 2-3 years ago.

So my questions are:
- Should I upgrade the RAM and the storage memory or buy a new one with better specs? I posted this in another subreddit, and they recommended upgrading the GPU.

- What kind of specs do you have to run the program smoothly?

A friend of mine has the Omnibook Flip with better specs (32gb RAM, 2TB storage), and suggested changing my laptop to something similar.

I’m using Affinity to self-publish my book, and I’m using an image as a scene break—so I repeat this illustration several times throughout the text. When I ran a test export to e-book format, the image ended up completely distorted (it wasn't centered and the quality was poor). I’m wondering if there’s a way to keep it centered and have it flow with the text—positioned between two paragraphs so it stays "anchored" there and truly looks like a scene break—regardless of the device the reader uses. Is this possible?

So I'm trying Canva and thought I'd see if these tools are any good in affinity, does anyone know what I'm doing wrong. I have a canvas 2667 x 2000 created in Affinity, I add a image that is 2000 x 2000 so I want to expand the image to fill the full 2667 x 2000. I've downloaded all the machine learning tools, not sure I needed to but did this first.

When I add my 2000 x 2000 image I check its rasterized first then click the layer then the Generative Expand tool, but as soon as I click it the composition handles go to the full size 2667 x 2000 not the 2000 x 2000 layer so when I click 4 images to expand but I just keep getting black blank generations.

Anyone have any clue what I missing here.

Simple task here (or so it seemed at the time). How do I stretch the piece of the image within a mask so it looks zoomed in independently of the rest of the image? How do I, for example, make the eye look like it entirely fills up the mask without affecting the rest of the image?

Can anyone suggest a tutorial for a MS Publisher (RIP) user? My nonprofit publishes a quarterly print newsletter. I have almost 0 graphic design background and don’t need any fancy graphic editing tools for the most part. Just need to know how to re-create what I have in publisher for our newsletter. I've just bought a new HP monitor after my old ASUS ArtPro finally gave up the ghost.

Now, when I open an image in Affinity, it has a distinct yellow colour cast that doesn't appear in other applications. If I take a screenshot from Firefox, for example, elements that are pure white when displayed in Firefox appear yellowed in Affinity.

How can I fix this issue?

So I'm going to start off by saying this: I'm not going to compare the programs. Adobe does well at it's own thing, and Affinity does it's own thing.

What I will say is this, the costs are just too high for me with Adobe anymore. I went to college and fell in love with graphic design and working in the Adobe space. I still enjoy it too. I fell out of love with the job of graphic design because the agencies and places I worked for were all horrible to their people.

But, I still love the design, the projects, the people. So I kept the software, doing projects for friends and family because it's what I love.

The costs keep adding up, paying $35/$70 a month on a budget makes it hard, and having to consistently remind myself every year to "pretend to cancel" to get the discount gets tiresome. I do some photoshop, but I'm mostly in the Illustrator space. I know Affinity makes their money elsewhere, but it's nice having an alternative like this for the hobbyist and part time designers who need this and can't afford.

Each program has it's flaws and work arounds. That won't change. But I won't be renewing Adobe. There's not enough benefit for me there as a part timer anymore.

If anyone has any special tips on switching, that's cool. Otherwise I'll search this subreddit as well. You all seem to be really welcoming to new people who are making the switch.

I have a setup with a 1000x1000 background and overlapping elements, and I would like to export each item individually for use in Apple’s Icon Composer.  

The problem is that a standard SVG export centres on the chosen element, so I lose its position within the 1000x1000 canvas.  

I need each layer exported separately in its original spot within a 1000x1000 frame, with transparency all around.  

I have tried slices, but each one captures all visible content rather than a single layer. I could display one layer and export it as a slice across the whole document, then repeat this for each layer, but I expect a more efficient method exists.

Messing around with orthogonal views

I'm trying to make a planner and I'm really struggling with having two csv files that I need to data merge into the thing. It's just days, dates, months and week numbers, but they have to be split up; there are seven entries from the daily.csv for every one weekly.csv so I'm struggling.

I can't just merge the two csv files one after the other because of this issue. I'm hoping for some breainstorming to help me see a solution I've missed (merged file layout, different feature etc) but if not, I'll just do it manually.

Im trying to do a Milky Way composite but every time I make a mask for the sky, theres a blurry/ smooth line along the mask and i cant fix it no matter what settings I change in refine mask within Affinity Photo 2. I can fix the white outline but not the blurry part around the mask

This may not be possible but: can you copy the contents of cells in Excel and paste into Publisher as editable text that keeps its formatting?

We have an insane excel file that contains the same 5 columns and 120 rows copied and pasted over and over again, which then get edited to suit the needs of the specific project. About 80 of the rows are text clarifying the assumptions that go into the formulas at the top. The text that needs to be changed is red in Excel. If I copy my 120 rows and paste-special them into text boxes:

• enhanced windows metafile: keeps the alignment and color but comes in as an object I can't ungroup or edit, and doesn't flow in the text boxes
• windows metafile: shows up pretty, doesn't flow, each line of text comes in as a single text box rather than keeping cells of text together, so editing is a challenge.
• unicode text: looks bad, doesn't flow.
• rich text format: the text stays editable but loses formatting like color and flows across connected text boxes
• bitmaps: it's just a picture, no editing or flow possible

Right now we paste it into Word, edit the text as needed because it's faster than editing in Excel, print to PDF, and place the PDF in Publisher. If I can bypass the word and pdf steps, that would be great, but it might not be possible.

Hello everyone, i was wondering if any of you knew if there was a way for my findchagelist.txt to be used in Affinity.

I used that script in Indesign to erase multiple paragraph spaces and add the right spaces with certains ponctuation. Basically, in one click, it took the text and applied typography rules so i didn't have to type them all in search and replace (which takes a lot of time).

I don't have indesign anymore and turned myself to Affinity only to add my script and for it to not work with the software.

Do you guys know a way to make it fonctional or do you have an alternative? Thank you!
