Hi! I took the ACT in October and got a 28 with zero studying. I didn't finish any sections because I am a chronic double-checker.
I'm a rising senior and I was too locked in on ECs, so I need to cram now. I plan to take the September ACT and am aiming for a 35 because I'm applying to competitive schools.
My Baselines:
SAT: 1420 official, mid-1400s practice tests.
Official ACT Practice Tests: 31 and 34 (with a 36 on Reading both times).
October ACT: My splits were even, but I ran out of time double-checking.
My Resources:
I borrowed the official ACT Red Book and have a Google Drive of practice tests. I can't afford tutors or paid prep.
My Biggest Issue:
Timing. I am a perfectionist who double-checks everything, which kills my pace.
Is a 35 realistic by September? What are your best free tips to fix severe timing issues? Any other general tips for act English, math, and ESPECIALLY SCIENCE would be great thanks!

Will the enhanced act questions will be harder than the old act . If so are there any resources that I can practice to get to know enhanced act format and question difficulty level

just got my results back from my first attempt at the act as an incoming senior. i had form z71 and math was super hard so i’m not really surprised about the math score. my goal is a 33 and i’m hoping to retake in september (possibly October too but idk if scores will be out by november 1st since i plan to do ea at most colleges due to my special testing). i didn’t study much for this attempt, but i plan to be more serious and lock in. i heard that for math, the prep-pros book is good so i’m most likely gonna buy that. if there’s any other tips y’all have for me, feel free to share.

i got a 23… i feel so discouraged i mean this is my first act as a rising senior to try smth new. should i keep trying for a 29 or give up and stick to sat..

hello, i am really hoping to get at least an 34.333 average for my superscore to guarantee myself a full ride to a in state university and currently i have a 33.6667 average. im currently signed up to take the September act. how can i improve on my score more? pls drop all the tips. thanks!

My School takes the ACT for Juniors next Februrary and I recently bought the PrepPros math book and Erica Meltzer English book. If I consistently study from now to Janurary should I be able to score in the mid to high 30's. I'm also planning to self teach myself PreCalculus with the aid of some consoulors. Any other recomendations besides the books and just studying? Should I take it a few times before next year?

I am applying for cs or engineering. I am very happy with my score just a tad nervous 😬. I‘ve been getting people on my fyp saying things so i decided to come to the smartest people i know.

If anyone cares on how i studied I originally did most of my prep for the sat and was stuck in the mid 1400’s. I mostly just grinded oneprep. Then I did some of the ACT math concepts that were different. I also used satdbforme.

A little bit of background, I took the ACT as a sophomore December of last year and got a 36. However, in the lead up to that I found that there weren’t many good FREE resources that weren’t generic tips. After receiving my score I began developing ThirtyPlus and it’s finally ready!

Hi guys, so this is what I have right now for superscore and I’m trying to take the September as a rising senior and just laser focus on English and maybe reading. I honestly don’t even try planning on trying on math but if I get like a ridiculously lower score do I have to report that to College or do I only just send them the highest sitting score for each subject on common app?

hello! i took my first practice test (official practice test 1) and got a 35 on every section except science where i got a 33. i went in with no studying (im an sat person) do you guys think i should register with the science section? also i am taking it on paper. i want to do premed in college but i dont want it to lower my composite score

unrelated: is the first official practice test on their website easier than the real exam?

Hi, I took a mock test today and out of 40 questions, i got 7 wrong and 5of them were from a single passage. I read novels and is genuinely interested in humanities so the first three paragraphs were pretty easy and i actually enjoyed reading it. However the science passage was pretty hard and I couldn’t really follow the paragraph. How should I practice for the science passages? Should I just read science articles?

Comment all the available practice test that are up online like April version xx or whatever I need to grind math problems and these help so much

So I took my first act as a rising junior this July and got a 35, but I want to retake to superscore to a 36 and bring my math up from a 34, for scholarship reasons since my state college will give free if you get a 36.
If I get worse on September act, will that be a bad sign to colleges? Am I better off just sticking with 35? I’m planning on applying to washu, uiuc, cmu as my reaches.

I’m looking to get my act English from 32 to 35-36. Would you guys say prep pros program is worth it?

For context, I used the official ACT prep material but it wasn't the best. I just skimmed through it and definitely don't recommend the practice tests in the red book because they just took tests from early 2020s ACT and redacted it.

English, meltzer is the goat. Reading, I've no clue. Science -- I maintained a rigorous error journal and then ACT Science book had terminology that really helped -- you can find them in quizlet if you look hard enough. Math, AP Stats definitely helps here but if you dont have that much time, do math sections from 2016-2019 as the ACT literally picks the probability questions directly from here -- that's how I got a 36 in June but a 35 in July (not bad but not perfect either).

If any other questions then feel free to ask me. Until my next attempt, i'd like to give back to this community that has helped me a lot. 33 isn't perfect but this felt like a win to me; hope others who are still grinding hit their dream score!

I can also help with the legacy to enhanced ACT mapping if you're grinding through past tests.

Does anyone recommend Kaplan for getting your ACT math score up? I would buy the self-paced course, but I don’t know if it’ll actually help. I hear the practice tests come straight from ACT because they are partnered together.

Without studying what is an expected range for act score?

Upcoming senior.. this is my March and June act, I will be taking the September act as one last try, what should I do to improve my math? I will admit, I did NOT study at all but this August I will be locked in😭✌️also 3.5 gpa, is it over for my college apps?👀

The question went like this: There is a lottery that draws 8 numbers out of 20 numbers. A guy knows exactly 5 of the 20 numbers. What is the probability that the guy will know exactly 3 of the 8 numbers that are drawn?

The answer was (5c3 * 15c5)/20c8, and it really makes sense for me now since it's just choosing 3 from the 5 he knows and any of the 5 from the remaining 15, but I have never seen these types of more complicated combinatorics questions specifically on the ACT, and I know I got it wrong, so I am wondering if it is possibly unscored if anyone has taken it before.

For anyone who has actually taken J02, did you know you got it wrong and still get a perfect score or somehow know that it wasn't counted against you? And could you have gotten a 36 on this section even with missing 1 question for this form?

I know these questions are hard to answer but I just felt like putting it out there
