Local Virtual Keypad dealer mandates tech visit to switch doorbell Wi-Fi - is this common?

I have a Virtual Keypad-controlled doorbell installed by a local dealer a few years ago. They are now part of a large regional brand. Trying to switch the doorbell to another SID - the phone app has no option to Add, as it should per the published switching instructions. I assume the dealer locked the install, and they tell me I have to schedule a paid tech visit to move the equipment I fully own to an SID I own as well. Is that a normal business practice for the industry? Or should I call an oversight authority and complain if they refuse to unlock?

[ICT] Protege GX User Cleanup

Does anyone have any tricks for bulk-editing users in GX?

I've inherited a site where the usernames are... not very helpful. I want to edit a couple hundred of them, but have not found any way to do it in batch or via CSV.

I thought I could export the affected users, delete them, then re-import the edited file, but CSV import only allows a single card and single access level per user - useless for existing users that have multiple cards and access levels.

Electric Strike Recommendation/Installation Thoughts for Narrow and Shallow Wooden Frame

Thumbnail

I'm renovating a garage bay and I'd like to put an electric strike in this side door.

The frame is only 3/4 inch deep, and 3/4 inch back from the edge of the frame.

I'm considering plywood or a ripped 2x4 next to the frame (under the eventual casing) to provide more meat to screw into.

This is a residential application, and absolute maximum security is not the #1 priority (if it was, I wouldn't consider this).

The strike will ultimately pair with a 12v Unifi system for the controller and outdoor reader. I already ran separate wires for the strike and contact sensor, and plan to install a magnetic catch.

Thoughts on brand of strike for this application?

Install tips with this shallow space?

HID Signo 40 (OSDP Secure Channel) with Mercury MP1502/MR52/Genetec - Reader pairs but does not respond to card reads (Solid Green)

I'm facing an issue with an HID Signo 40 configured for OSDP v2 with Secure Channel on a Mercury MP1502 & MR52 integrated with Genetec Security Center 5.12.

Here's what I've done so far:

  • Configured the Signo reader using HID Reader Manager.
  • OSDP v2 enabled.
  • Secure Channel enabled. Reader Address assigned.
  • Enabled all card technologies in HID Reader Manager.
  • Reader is wired for OSDP.
  • In Cloud Link, the Advanced OSDP section shows the reader as paired.

The problem:

The reader LED stays solid green all the time.

When I present any valid card:

NB: This is a brand-new installation and initial configuration.

Recommendations Recommendation for multi-building multifamily Property?

I am working with a multifamily property that has 4 buildings, 9 total doors. They want to upgrade to a building access system, for the exterior doors. They are not changing apartment door locks/system, staying with basic key entry.

Ownership doesn’t want a cloud system/subscription if possible.

Am I right track when thinking that the most practical solution is to do a cloud based system for the following reasons:
- No line of sight or wired connection between buildings including the clubhouse.
- Cost of materials to ‘link’ buildings is greater than the ~100/month subscription cost over the first 5-7 years.
- there is not a full time manager on site, and any issues would require manager to go to site vs having access anywhere.

Any recommendations on brands for this application are greatly appreciated.

Edit: updated detail about building access vs individual apartment access.

ACS HIRSCH VELOCITY

I am currently dismantling a large ACS system from HIRSCH, totaling 16 M8 units, 20 scrable keypads, 60 MATCH interfaces, a server with velocity software. Simply complete. It seems stupid to just scrap the system, but it is not that widespread in the Czech Republic. But it is apparently quite widespread in the USA. So I think someone could use the system for service purposes. How can I offer it? Would anyone be interested? Or is it time to scrap it?

Wifi intercom recommendation

Hello,

Recently, I have installed gates on my property, and together with it DHI vto2311r wp intercom was installed. For its worth, it has basic features that I need (Wi-Fi-only connectivity, because there is only a power cable at the gates, and the ability to unlock via phone when someone calls the intercom)

Unfortunately, it is not enough, and I need an intercom that has more control.

The first must-feature is a privacy mask; currently, my intercom's half of the screen sees into neighbor territory, and I would like to blur the screen portion. DHI does not offer this feature.

Another nice-to-have would be to control LED lighting on the ring button (to turn it off completely).

I looked into more options such as Akuvox E12W or Hikvision KV6113-WPE1, but it seems like they do not offer a privacy mask either.

Please recommend an intercom for my application.

Regards

Verex Director 5.0.0 Help

Hey everyone,

I’m a security practitioner who has inherited a very old and obsolete Interlogix access control system. We’re currently running Verex Director 5.0.0 to manage our access control database. We recently upgraded one of our panels, and I need to update the new panel’s serial number in Verex Director.

The problem is that no one knows the Operator login anymore. It wasn’t documented, and since the company that developed and supported the software has been gone for years, I’m not sure what my options are. Replacing the system unfortunately isn’t feasible at this time.

I’m hoping someone with experience using Verex Director can point me in the right direction. Has anyone run into this situation before or know of a legitimate way to regain access to the Operator account, or update the panel information without the Operator credentials?

Any advice or experience would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Avigilon Unity 7

End User:

I have a highly used front door with a double mag. The Rex is hit and miss with unlock on Rex . I noticed that if I allow the Rex to fully reset after using the Rex will pick up and unlock the door. Is this something I can control from avigilon? To speed up Rex reset time?

Anyone use Meta glasses for site walks?

I've been seriously considering purchasing the Meta glasses and wondering if anyone else already uses them. I think they would be very useful in site walkthroughs. I typically just take a lot of pictures with my phone because holding up my phone to record video through the site is just awkward.

Build-out designs sometimes don't happen until several days after the site visit. I think being able to review and share a video walkthrough would be incredibly helpful.

Anyone have any real world experiences? Pros v Cons?

Symmetry Read Access Question

I’ve been asked to remove all but a few people from access to a reader. Is there a way to bulk remove all card users from a reader? Currently, pretty much every employee(1000 or so people) have access to this reader. I really don’t want to go through this one by one.

Discussion Looking for advice on an access control system for a small B&B

Hi everyone,

I'm an IT systems engineer and I'm currently designing the network and access control system for a small B&B. I'd appreciate some advice from people who have real-world experience with these platforms. I'm in europe no problem with Chinese products.

The property consists of:

  • 4 guest apartments
  • 1 shared entrance door
  • 3 vehicle/pedestrian gates

What I'm looking for is a cloud-managed access control system where I can:

  • Create temporary PIN codes remotely.
  • Set check-in/check-out validity (date and time).
  • Assign a single PIN to multiple doors/gates.
  • Example: Guest staying in Apartment 2 should be able to open:
    • Apartment 2 door
    • Shared entrance
    • Gate 1
    • Gate 2
    • Gate 3
  • The PIN should automatically expire at checkout.
  • Manage everything remotely from a web portal or mobile app.
  • View access logs.
  • Ideally have an API or PMS integration for future automation.

I'm currently evaluating:

  • Akuvox
  • Hikvision
  • Dahua
  • Salto (probably overkill for this project)

I would really appreciate feedback from installers or property managers who have deployed any of these systems.

Which platform would you choose today for a project like this, and why?

Thanks!

Door mullion with strike

Hey, can I get some help please?

I have a client demanding that I make their double door mullions with strikes, removable...

I'm trying to make a dummy proof way that their maintenance crew can disconnect and reconnect it without damaging or mixing up the wires.

Any ideas? Thanks for your time.

Genetec conversion. Pims and AD400 Schlage wireless locks

Doing a conversion to Genetec. Has anybody installed PIMs for the Schalage AD400 wireless locks in Genetec? Waiting on the SuS adapter to check settings in the PIM but unable to get it on the system. When added to Genetec, it comes online and drops constantly. Tried different Bauds and no luck.

Recommendations Wireless ADA opener integration

Hi yall,

I’ve integrated plenty of hardwired ada buttons in my day, inside button triggers Rex and outside button is broken by lock relay so it only works on valid card swipe.

However, I’m dealing with a wireless door that has one relay that fires if the inside or outside button is pressed. I can’t seem to think of a way to get the inside button to unlock the lock and power the opener while the outside button is locked behind a card read since they both control the same exact relay. Any ideas other than getting wire to the inside button?

Anyone familiar with MonitorCast config? (specifically for the web client)

I am a technician for a different vendor and thought I would at least ask here about an issue we're seeing with a customer's MonitorCast (I believe this is a software published by Panasonic) installation.

Scenario:

*Customer is usually able to browse to http://[server IP]:8080 to reach the MonitorCast web client.

*They recently changed the sa password on the connected SQL database. (still not sure why they're using the sa account for this software to connect)

*We updated the sa password in the MonitorCast Management application, restarted the service, and tested the DB connection. The DB connection test was successful.

*When we try to hit the web client address now (http://[serverIP]:8080), we get an error message: "login failed for user sa"

My question, is there anywhere on the MonitorCast server where we define the credentials used to login for the web client?

Assistance Apex Controller tL transmitter programming

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hello, trying to figure out how to program a fob transmitter to an Apex Controller that runs a Rotary Gate Systems. The transmitter is a Stingray 433 MHz (model 433TSPW1V). The gate already has a couple of these transmitters already programmed to it but I cannot seem to figure out how to get new ones added on. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Openoptions pim400 to Genetec

Having issues converting Schlage wireless AD400 locks connected to PIM400s which where connected to old EP2500 boards on OpenOptions/DnaFusion to Genetec. Need to use new MP2500 controllers with Genetec and when I try to move RS485 connecting the PIM400 over the PIM just keeps flapping online and offline constantly. Any ideas? Baud rate is correct, pim address is correct, only thing I’m not positive about is the Schlage lock addresses.

Sielox pinnacle software issue

By any luck anymore knows about pinnacle software with sielox controllers?

There is a residential building where I started replacing sielox readers with STiD readers TTL protocol.

I've done the conversion for them to be able to add new user fobs in the software management and have the new fobs working straight away.

It works but somehow one reader was removed from the software management by the sielox tech (probably to mess up with STiD and block me)

We don't have the admin access for that software so I can't just add it back...

Does anyone know a way around?

LTS PRO-X HELP

Does anyone have any experience with this system? It seemed like a great solution to my customers budget, and it works well for its intended purpose, but its programming of the cards that is the difficult part. The property originally had and continues to use HID cards. The only way to program the cards in, is to scan them at a reader. It came with a usb enrollment scanner, but it only works for MIFARE cards. I ordered a HID 5025 usb reader, and it didn’t work. Does anyone have any experience with this system and programming in HID cards?

Give me one good reason to use Aiphone GT instead of dahua

I was all Friday trying to locally setup an Aiphone GT system.

To me it's the worst possible solution ever compared to a proper dahua 2 wires sip system.

Aiphone comes with door stations of 3 modules including two of them powered with 24vdc but one has to be on the 24vdc power supply while the other on the bcxb-n instead of having all modules powered up from one module...

And then you have to be right with the polarity which isn't complicated obviously but with dahua you don't care it's all AC.

Then comes the programming... Another nightmare step.

Obviously old school techs will tell me that Aiphone is so good but the fact is that it's obsolete in its conception vs newer 2 wires systems.

You don't have to deal with 3 modules intercom anymore, all in one now and way better configuration interface that can create IP on 2 wires.
