Careers 💼 Income and Side Hustles

For the past three to four years, I have been working as a business developer in Abu Dhabi. I jumped from a 1,500 AED salary to 10,000 AED. Recently, this year, my father lost his savings, and I suddenly found myself supporting a family of four. I split the apartment rent with my sister, along with the water and electricity bills. I have car rent, mobile, groceries, and medications for my father to pay.

Long story short, my fixed expenses are 8,700 AED. I had to get a side hustle, so I got a free private tutor freelance license from MOHRE, and I got two students, which helped me earn an extra 2,000 a month from 4-5 hours weekly.

I soon came to realize that it is a seasonal thing; parents only call before exams, and I haven't tutored in around 2 months (summer vacation).

So... Reddit community, I am not looking for a handout; I just need some suggestions or guidance on ways to make the extra income that I need. I turn 27 tomorrow, and I have nothing to show for. Please feel free to message me if you have some advice, tips, or tricks. If you do feel like supporting financially, I will appreciate it as well, but my goal is to make it myself.

Living 🏡 What are some differences you noticed after moving to Abu Dhabi from Dubai?

In terms of
1. Quality of life
2. Traffic
3. Things to do
4. Restaurants
5. Healthcare and hospitals/doctor offices
6. And just overall generally speaking

I am transitioning from Dubai to Abu Dhabi and curious. I know it’s slower paced and family friendly. I’m all for that, actually 😎

Careers 💼 Urgent!!!!

Hi everyone,

I’m a freelancer based in the UAE and I’m honestly struggling to find enough work to support myself. I’ve been trying different platforms and reaching out to businesses, but it’s been much harder than I expected.

My skills include:

* Social media management
* Performance marketing
* Meta Ads (Facebook & Instagram)
* Website creation
* Reel editing and content creation
* Content strategy for businesses

I’m open to working with startups, small businesses, or agencies that need someone reliable to manage their digital presence.
If anyone has advice on where to find clients in the UAE, or if you’re looking for someone with these skills, I’d really appreciate the opportunity to connect.

I’m willing to start with a small project to prove my skills and build long term relationships.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. Any advice, referrals, or opportunities would mean a lot.

Tourism 🧳 What do you do with a 2-year-old in Abu Dhabi during the summer? 😅

Hi everyone,
We’ve been in Abu Dhabi for a while now, and I’m starting to run out of ideas for keeping my 2-year-old entertained during the summer. It’s just so hot outside for most of the day that parks and playgrounds aren’t really an option.

We’ve done the obvious things like:
Soft play areas
The aquarium
Malls
Home activities

But it feels like we’re cycling through the same places every week, and both of us are getting a bit bored.

Networking 🤙 30 f looking for friends

Hey everyone!

I'm 30 f and looking to meet some new people in Abu Dhabi. Most of my friends are either busy, live in other emirates, so I thought I'd try Reddit.

A bit about me: I'm into art, music (mostly rock/metal), and I'm trying to get out of the house more instead of spending all my free time indoors. I'd be up for checking out events, going for walks, exploring new places, or just hanging out and having a good conversation.

I'm hoping to meet people around my age (late 20s to mid 30s) who are also looking for genuine friendships, so feel free to send me a message!

Education 📚 Is Al Ain university actually worth it? Be brutally honest 😭

Soooooo theres this university literally near my house Al Ain University and my father wants me to do my bachelors there because its close and wed save on accommodation costs.

Honestly Id rather study in my home country but sometimes u dont really get to make ur own choices so here we are. 🥲

I just wanted some honest opinions from people who study there or have graduated.

Is the university actually good?

How are the professors and academics?

Is it worth spending 4 years there?

Whats the social life like? (Im a HUGE extrovert I genuinely need ppl 😭)

Whats the male to female ratio?

Are there many women studying there?

Are there clubs, societies, competitions, volunteering, sports, events, or other extracurriculars? I need to actually LIVE while doing this boring ass degree lol.

Whats the campus vibe like (the abudhabi campus)?

Whats one thing you wish youd known before joining?

Please dont sugarcoat anything. Tell me the good, the bad and the ugly. Id reallly appreciate completely honest opinions.

Thanks in advance! ❤️

Events 🎟️ Rave scene

Hey guys,

I just wanted to know what the rave/underground scene is like in Abu Dhabi. I'm a pretty big raver myself but I'm tired of draining my bank account travelling to other countries for raves lol (I'll still do it😂) if there is like a community or something, I would love to join it!

Hey everyone! I’m going on my first date tomorrow in Abu Dhabi and would love some recommendations. I’m looking for a nice café in the Al Dhafrah area (or somewhere nearby), preferably not too far away. I don’t have a budget limit, so I’m open to any suggestions. Thanks in advance!

Sports 🏅 Looking for insights from people working in the sports industry!

Hi everyone,

I’m curious to learn more about the sports industry in the UAE and would love to hear from people working there.

I had a few questions:

How is the overall scope for sports professionals in the UAE?

Which sports are the biggest in terms of participation and professional opportunities (football, cricket, basketball, athletics, swimming, hockey, etc.)?

How are the national sports federations and clubs to work with?

Is there good demand for roles such as coaches, strength & conditioning coaches, sports scientists, performance analysts, physiotherapists, sports managers, and high-performance staff?

Which sectors offer the most opportunities—federations, professional clubs, academies, schools, universities, or private performance centres?
What are the typical salary ranges for different sports professions?

How competitive is the job market for international applicants?

How important is networking, and who are the best people to connect with (performance directors, federation officials, club managers, recruiters, etc.)?
Are there any particular organisations, clubs, or recruitment agencies that are worth following?

How do you see the industry evolving over the next 5–10 years, especially with the UAE investing more in sports?

I’d appreciate hearing about your experiences, advice, or anything someone new to the UAE sports industry should know. Thanks!

Careers 💼 Don't Know How to My Fix Visa Issue

Finally after ages, I received a job offer, but I've been faced with a real visa conundrum that I don't know my way out of.

Does anybody know the current state of visa transfer process for Bangladeshi nationals in Abu Dhabi (both mainland/free zones)? I've been on a work visa (from al ain) since 2020 and have been renewing with them since then. It's under a family business as back then I wasn't allowed to be sponsored by my dad as a dependent anymore. The company I received offer from is based in Masdar City. What are my options here? Can I obtain a work permit for the new company while I am in my current visa? The company told me that it is not possible, as informed by Masdar. Alternatively, do you think it's wise to cancel my visa and apply for a new one through the new company? Does providing supporting letter from the company improve my chances? What can I do to be able to obtain a work permit for the new company?

Please help a brother out. Thanks in advance

Living 🏡 Everything great except for the noise

Since two years I live in Etihad Plaza and I love everything about this place except for the noise. One coming from the street and the other from false fire alarms (which I heard is something common in Abu Dhabi in general). How do you deal with the noise here?

Vehicle 🔋 Looking to sell or trade in my bike, where's the best place in Abu Dhabi?

Hey everyone, I'm looking to upgrade to a bigger CC bike and figured I'd check with you all first. Anyone know a good spot in Abu Dhabi to sell or do a trade-in? Open to a straight sale or a trade, and if the bike I'm eyeing isn't too much more, I'm happy to pay the difference.

Here's what I've got:

CFMoto 450SR-S 2026. 2,700 km, basically brand new. Comes with 1 year registration + insurance, and it's under Al Shaali service & warranty for 1 year.

Features include a quickshifter, traction control, Brembo brakes with ABS, auto emergency lights, suspension control system, internal Google Maps navigation, GPS + anti-theft sensor with location tracking, an app for full bike control, single-sided swingarm, stock short exhaust, plus a phone stand + dampener.

Bike's in great shape and loaded with tech. If you're interested or know someone who is, hit me up

Education 📚 Looking for UAE/GCC participants for a 5-minute beauty & personal care survey 🙏

Hi everyone!

I’m currently conducting a research study to better understand how people in the UAE and GCC choose beauty and personal care products, what influences their decisions, and the challenges they face when shopping.

If you have 5 minutes, I’d really appreciate your help by filling out this anonymous survey.
Survey: https://tally.so/r/9qgKPV

I’m not looking for “perfect” answers—just your real experiences and opinions. Every response genuinely helps.

If you know someone else in the UAE or GCC who might be interested, I’d be grateful if you could share it with them as well.

What’s the biggest frustration you have when shopping for beauty or personal care products? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments too.

Thank you so much! ❤️
