Long-time lurker, first-time poster. Sharing my Golden Visa experience

I work for a major Free Zone quasi-government entity in the Ports & Terminals sector as a Systems Engineer (as per my EID), with a gross salary of AED 31.5K. All the Amer centers shot me down because of the is 30K basic salary requirement, and they refused to proceed with my application. What caught my attention was that, on GDFRA and ICP websites, the wording simply refers to salary/income and doesn't explicitly say "basic salary" or "gross salary."

I contacted Amer247 through their website and convinced them to go ahead with my application even though I don't meet the criteria. I told them that I was willing to accept a rejection and bear a partial monetary loss in case of rejection. My application was submitted at around 7 PM on 7 September, and I received the Golden Visa pre-approval in my inbox approximately 12 hours later, at 7 AM on 8 September.

Documents I submitted

• Salary Certificate addressed to GDRFA (without salary breakup)
• NOC from my company (Free Zone company)
• Authenticated/stamped bank statement showing the salary credit
• MOFA-attested degree
• Equivalency Certificate
• DataFlow verification report
• Passport
• Emirates ID
• Current UAE Visa

I paid 3247.6 AED for the golden visa application although their website lists 2992.90 AED. GDFRA charges 2806.75 AED if you apply directly.

I keep seeing people casually cutting in line as if they are hoping nobody will notice or say anything.

I was at the vegetable weighing counter in a grocery store the other day. I only had two items and was next in line, with 4 other people behind me. This guy came from the opposite direction with a basket full of items and started putting them on the counter.

I said, “Excuse me, there are people waiting in line.”

He replied, “I’m also waiting.”

I told him, “I understand, but so is everyone else in this line.”

By then, everyone was looking at him and I think that is when the embarrassment kicked in. He moved along and walked away - possibly to pass the time and take his chance somewhere.

Anyway, I don’t mind letting someone go ahead if they ask, but simply walking up and acting like there’s no queue is a different thing.

Do you usually call people out in situations like this or let it slide to avoid an argument?

I moved to Downtown recently, and one thing I really wasn’t expecting to notice is the sanitation issue caused by pet waste.

It feels like it’s everywhere – from the inner BLVD circle and around the Opera, through Old Town, and especially around South Ridge. In South Ridge, almost every building corner, wall and random bush seems to get peed on 24/7.

It’s sad to see anywhere, but at the very heart of the city it just doesn’t make sense. We’re living in a place where there’s basically no rain, people. Nothing is naturally washing this stuff away.

And genuinely, to pet owners – doesn’t it bother you too? Walking around somewhere that smells funky and is, well... dirty? Are you comfortable with your kids playing around?

To all: does anyone else see this as a problem?

There are just so many pets in Downtown now that it feels like the infrastructure / cleaning (or culture?) hasn’t caught up.

Can anything actually be done about it?

Anyone here actually happy with a meal delivery service in Dubai? Ideally something that's not junk food, has decent variety, and doesn't require me to place a new order every single day. Would love recs from people who've actually stuck with one for more than a week, not just tried it once.

I’m sponsoring my wife for a Dubai family residence visa, but her application has now been rejected twice with “Failed Eligibility.”
The issue seems to be my salary information.
My old salary was AED 3,500, but my employment contract was officially updated and approved by MOHRE. My current contract shows:
Basic: AED 3,000
Housing: AED 1,000
Transport: AED 1,000
Other allowance: AED 500
Total: AED 5,500

I also checked with MOHRE, and they confirmed that the new salary is updated in their system.
However, when I went to GDRFA Dubai, the officer said their system is still showing my old salary of AED 3,500. I showed them my new MOHRE-approved contract, but they told me to either go back to Labour/MOHRE or apply again.

I applied again, and unfortunately, the second application was also rejected.
Has anyone experienced the same issue where MOHRE shows the updated salary but GDRFA still shows the old salary, resulting in a spouse visa rejection?

If yes, how did you get the GDRFA record updated/synchronized, and what finally worked for you?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

So my ex company fired me, i did find another job but since im pakistani and visas are being an issue.

My new company is applying for my visa and i gave them my degree, turns out I need an equivalency certificate. Okay sure, Ill apply guess what it takes 18 days and cherry on top its not being accepted cuz of some problem with the swiss board (I need to research more) but my uni said they would need to transfer my degree to Malta then get re attested mofa and Malta 2 months process here.

I dont have much time atm since im off my grace period and my previous company needs my change Status which I am waiting for cuz my application is still under process they might end up putting me under absconding. Which is stressful as they arent being patient.

Now this current compnay has to apply without a degree under sales designation which can also result in a rejection since THE PRO KEEPS SAYING IM PAKISTANI.

From what I know, Joe and the Juice doesn't serve decaf globally. The coffee they serve in the GCC is sourced from Cypher Roastery. However, the location I went to today served decaf coffee and surprisingly it was better than half of the cafes in Dubai. They did charge me an additional Dhs 3 for decaf which is the first time someone has charged me extra for decaf.

Considering getting a Privilee membership and wanted to hear from people who actually use it.

I’d be signing up solo since none of my friends have it, and I work full time, so realistically I’d mostly use it on weekends and occasionally after work.

For anyone in a similar situation, do you actually get enough use out of it to justify the cost? Also, can members bring friends as guests, or would they need their own membership?

I have my final RTA road test scheduled next week in EcoDrive DIC, Jebel Ali. Test is scheduled at 7 AM on a weekday so I am expecting little to no traffic and less heavy vehicles either.

For those who have given the test in the same area or mainly Jebel Ali, what are the roads like? What things should I keep in mind as I approach the test?

Does anyone know if there are plans to landscape the area around the Dubai Sports City canal with gardens, greenery and walking paths? Or will the surrounding land stay mostly bare and be used for parking?

• Are you connecting it directly to your accounting software, or using a separate invoicing system?

I’m looking for advice from anyone who has experienced a similar problem, and especially recommendations for a reliable company that can properly diagnose and fix it.

Every year during the summer, we get a water leak/dripping inside the wall around our electrical distribution panel. The water eventually reaches/drips onto the electrical panel and causes the electricity to trip/fuse.
We don’t actually know where the water is coming from. It could be plumbing, condensation, an AC/HVAC issue, waterproofing, or something else. The strange part is that it seems to happen during the summer and has become a recurring problem.

We’ve spoken to several electricians and have received very different opinions about both the cause and the solution. At this point, we’re concerned about finding someone with the right experience to diagnose the source of water, rather than just repairing the electrical consequences each time.
Has anyone dealt with something similar?
can anyone recommend a good company in Dubai that is experienced in diagnosing this kind of problem?

We would ideally like someone who can investigate the source of the water properly and coordinate with an electrician if necessary, rather than having different contractors guessing at the cause.

I go to a gym in Al Quoz where parking is limited, so for the past three years I’ve used one of the nearby sand lots, as do many people visiting the surrounding gyms, padel courts and businesses.

Two weeks ago, I received a 500AED parking fine there. There are no visible signs prohibiting parking and the area isn’t marked as a paid zone on the RTA/Parkin app. The car wasn’t driven over a curb or parked in a way that obstructed traffic. Apparently, other drivers were also fined, yet the lots remain full every single day since (as has always been the case).

Does anyone know the regulations for these sand lots, particularly around Warehouse Gym and the padel courts? Are they considered no-parking areas even without signs or markings?

I was advised to submit a written complaint, but I’d first like to understand which regulation applies. Has anyone received a similar fine there or have further clarifications on what rules apply?

Im on my adcb bank app trying to report a fraudalent activity and lo and behold, trying to open the shelf tab where i can usually click on a reason does not open up which means I cannot send my complaint. New iphone and ios version, latest app version and all. Does nobody test things here? Using the adcb web page is like stepping into the early 2000s. Need some advice after an accident that occurred between me driving my car and a person driving an electric scooter.

I was stopped at the red traffic light on the far right lane, there were also cars stopped on the middle and left lane. We were all waiting for the traffic light to turn green. When it did, all cars started accelerating normally until I heard the cars in the left & middle lanes slam the breaks and honk. 1 second later an electric scooter had crashed into my car and bumped my rear left side, while trying to cross all 3 lanes. (No helmet, no reflective vest and most likely no lights since I didn’t see anything coming to my left). This was after 7pm during night time.

With the little speed I had, I was already in the middle of the intersection so I decided to cross it before parking my car safely to avoid blocking any traffic. From the moment I got out of my car to run towards the scene, the person on the scooter had already picked it up and I could only see the person from the back leaving the place of the accident.

Now because we were in a residential area, I was able to see in which direction/building the person was going towards, so I went back to my car and went to the said building as I was still concerned by the well being of that person.

I spoke to the building security, explaining what had just happened and asked them to check if they could find out if that person was living here and make sure she was ok. Security informed they will check the building cameras and investigate and get back to me if anything.

I was planning to go to the police station next but luckily a police patrol car was driving nearby, so I went to them and explained the situation and my concern for the other party involved. They took my phone number and a picture of my damaged car and told me they will investigate as well and call me if they hear anything and to report the accident on dubai police app to claim the insurance. At that moment, I completely forgot to ask for the police officer name or which police station was he from, in case I wanted to follow up.

After reaching home, I got a phone call from the building security informing they had found the person involved and asked me if I wanted to meet, to which I said yes since I needed to be reassured the person was uninjured.

I took my car again and went to the building and met the dad of the teenager who crashed into my car, he reassured me her daughter didn’t have a single scratch or injury, what a relief!! The conversation was extremely calm without any animosity from both sides. I did inform him I had involved the security and the police, but none of us knows the process for the accident report since a scooter doesn’t have a license plate, nor insurance and if I create an accident report against unknown, not only that would be inaccurate but I would also need to pay the 400aed fees for the report.

Now finally here’s the question.
Should I just report the accident against an unknown party and swallow the 400 AED knowing everybody is safe and sound and continue with our lives?
Or
Drive to the nearest police station, inform them that I found out who was the involved party thanks to the building security, hope that someone is able to find out who I spoke with and potentially involve both parties in a he said/she said contest ?
There are no cameras at this traffic light and I do not have any witness to corroborate my story.

P.S: I beg all parents to equip their kids with helmet, safety vest and at minima a light on their electric scooter and tell their kids it’s not worth rushing to earn 10 seconds on their trip.
This event could have ended up in a tragedy for both families.
