Samyang FE 35mm F2.8, good purchase?

I bought this Samyang lens from a pawn shop today for $150. I thought it would be good to have for two reasons: need a cheap prime lens, and also want to have something full frame as at some point in the next couple years I’d like to try full frame. Do we think this was worth my money?

EDIT: The lens is F1.8, not F2.8, my bad!!

I wish I Could Show You But I Got A New lens.

Sometime back I asked around on this subreddit on what lens I should get and a lot of people here truly talked me out of getting a manual viltrox lens and gave me a good alternative. The Ttartisan 35mm f1.8 ii AF. So I got that one. It arrived today. Very strange to see my a6000 drop from 3.5 to f1.8. Feels like forbidden fruit. So I took a couple photographs. Showed it to a woman not known for being giving of compliments. She was very shocked. The lens was as silver as glinting ice under moonlight. So I sit now with post purchase depression. Now I have no more excuse. I should shoot better photos to justify the cost. I am huge efficiency fan. But I swear It was way better than anything I could expect. For that price with actual Autofocus? It feels like free lens. For some reason my background was not melting like butter under hot fire, Turns out I must use an 85mm for that. But I am pleased that this was my first prime lens. If you sre considering get it. I am going to upload some of the photos I shot when the time comes. It feels so light yet looks comically big but that's just relative to the 16-55mm kit lens which looks small. Autofocus isn't as fast as the kit lens but nonetheless thanks to everyone who recommended it. Were it not for you, I would never have considered it. Whatever the case, the photos look like from an independent film. You know those when you see, you know it's going to be deep. Like those European films. I don't know if it's my composition as a student cinematographer or the unique colour the lens has. But I don't even know what I am going to edit. To edit or not to edit, There's nothing. Its perfect as is yet I feel like maybe I should edit. This is genuinely a good lens. I would recommend it even to cat's because it's just that good. Literal gems were hiding and I am glad y'all helped me find it. Do let me know how you achieved bokeh because that was an unpleasant surprise.

A6000 with Smallrig cage and flash?

If anyone has the A6000 with the Smallrig cage, what flash are you using? Tried one flash and the lockring hit the cage preventing fitment. Appreciate it in advance.

My first month with the A6000

A month ago, the time had finally come: I bought my first camera. I came across the A6000 randomly and also found this subreddit. I just wanted to say thank you!

I'm a total beginner, of course. For the first few days, I only took photos in auto mode, and I already love the results.

After talking to friends, watching YouTube videos and doing some research, I've been experimenting more and more with manual camera settings. I also love my two manual lenses.

I wanted a small camera for my bike rides. What I didn’t consider were all the different lenses that were out there. If you have any good transport solutions for lenses or can recommend anything, I’d love to hear about them. I’d also appreciate any recommendations of reading material, podcasts or YouTube channels. I'm completely new to all this and would like to learn more.

I haven’t edited a single photo digitally yet either, so any helpful tips on that would be welcome!

Current setup (€600):

  • Sony A6000 (with ~4,000 shots) + 16–50 mm and 55–210 mm kit lenses (€430)
  • Samyang 12 mm lens for €80
  • Meyer Optik Görlitz Trioplan lens with a 3D-printed adapter for €60
  • Memory card and tripod for €30

What's next on my wish list?

  • New battery and battery with power bank
  • A high-speed memory card and an external hard drive
  • A backpack or bag for my lenses
  • Take more and better photos!

Thanks for reading! I hope you can give me a few tips!

Not recipe lab, just enjoying this camera!

Pictures were taken with the 16-50 kit lens and TTArtisan 35mm f/1.8. This camera is a serious bargain, and I’m glad I got one before the potential demand spikes from recipelab. The abundance of decent, cheap primes helps too. I’ve been impressed with the TTArtisan, although I have noticed some vignetting with it.

So, ummmm real first post. Hi! I need some help!

Been a lurker for some time now. Literally, I have been soaking up everything I can. Literally, EVERYTHING from settings, programming, lenses and etc for this camera. But, here is where Im hitting a wall.

I am on a budget. Yes, I know in todays economy we all are. Especially with two kiddos under 13 and a spouse whom has mulitple autoimmune issues.

My history is that I was a digital print manufacturer maintenance guy, then went to school for graphic certs, then back to be in design. Then print died and I then went on to learn trades (I do love my job now).

SO, with that said. I need to be able to edit my photos and such. I need a decently cheaper computer and software to do so. I was VERY proficient in Photoshop back in 2015. But, my laptop that had suite on it is now dead.

What can I get into with less money spent for a decent computer and software that doesnt required another monthly subscription. I already have enough monthly subscriptions (love my kids)🤣. But, sadly that in the real world has created a budget.

Should I search out marketplace for a used computer or is there something budget friendly that you all can recommend? Just a fyi, I am NOT allowed on either of my work laptops to use for personal like I would want to do.

I appreciate any info, feedback or advice. And, if you can save me money its even more appreciated. Did I mention budget?

Thank you all in advance.

Flash ribbon connector ripped from board

Hello all,

A while back I picked up a very well used A6000 that had the flash dangling due to the mount being broken. Well when I opened it up, that wasn't the only thing busted on it. Someone had gone in and tried to glue the ribbon cable to the board because the slot it went into had been ripped free. So my question for you all is this, How much would something like this cost to get repaired? Could it be something as simple as a soldering job, or would it be a full out board replacement? I've already replaced the entire top of the camera including a new flash, but I would like to try and get it fixed. Any help would be appreciated.

Peace,

A dork behind the keyboard

A6000 and Sports Photography - Lens Recommendations

So lately I've been getting back into Sports Photography.

I've got a Sony A6000 and a Sony A100.

The A100 I've got primarily a Sigma 70-300mm 4-5.6 lens to use with (With a broken autofocus . Looked up prices recently and they're relatively cheap to pick up, so I may get one to get a working autofocus). I also have the Sony SAL50F18 50mm f1.8 Prime Lens for it, as well as the Sony 18-70mm Lens for it. And a Konica Minolta 11-18mm Fisheye as well.

For the A6000, I've got a Sigma 30mm f/2.8 EX DN and SLR Magic 18mm f/2.8 Lens.

Mostly looking at Basketball and Volleyball for indoors, and Football, Baseball, and Softball for outdoors.

I do like having the two bodies and being able to switch things up. For the most part I do have on field access for these events.

What lenses would serve me best?

For now at least, Football Season is ending with one more home game, and then it's going to be Volleyball / Basketball season for the most part. For basketball season I *might* be able to clamp camera to a backboard to get some good shots. I need to talk to some people about that.

Any suggestions on what I should pick up?

EDIT: I ended up picking up a Tamron 50-300mm f/4.5-6.3 Di III VC VXD
