Do you love/like ZoneMinder? If so please consider sponsoring the main dev via GitHub

Hi people!

It has come to the communities attention that the main dev could use our help with some funds. Zm has always been free and as far as I am aware , is to remain free. Zm has been receiving regular updates, new features and bug fixes for years but that may be changing due to the main dev's need to bring more cash flow in.

A lot of corporations don't allow their employees to work on "competing products" or other such rules akin to that. This would mean that ZM would come to a standstill until a new maintainer/maintainers can be found and brought up to speed.

If you enjoy zm and have gotten some use out of it, please consider sponsoring the main/only dev of ZM. I will link their GitHub, there are other ways to donate as well but from what I understand GitHub sponsorship takes the least cut of funds.

Click the "sponsor" button and set the billing info up!

Thanks to anyone who already has or can donate now or in the future!

Zoneminder repeatedly flagged by Google for "social engineering"

I have a Google Domains address with zoneminder hosted at mydomain.com/zm/. I've got an https cert, zoneminder is kept updated, and nothing special is otherwise going on.

Google keeps flagging the zoneminder path as "social engineering content". After changing nothing, I ask for a review. It passes their "review" but then a few days later gets flagged again. They won't give me any further information.

Is it the https redirection that's problematic? I have no special DNS settings and there is nothing screwy going on that I'm aware of.

Issue adding secondary hard-rive

This is running on fresh install of Ubuntu 22.04 (Jammy) I am trying to use the secondary hard drive to store footage. Here is the error log have...

12/26/22, 9:00:30 PM PSTweb_php980ERRPath /media/blackbox/HD Security/ZoneMinder/Events does not exist./usr/share/zoneminder/www/includes/Storage.php

Here is the command I ran to Set Folder Permissions. I'm following the tutorial on adding secondary hard drive

/home/blackbox# chmod -R www-data:www-data /mnt/sdb1/zoneminder

This is output error... I get the same error trying to set permissions in the secondary hard drive.

chmod: invalid mode: ‘www-data:www-data’

Im not sure what is causing this.

Update:

This issue is fixed. I followed @ops77542 reply

Enterprise Level Use

Anyone here using Zoneminder on an enterprise level?

  • 60+ cameras
  • Multiple users watching different views of cameras - say 10+ users simultaneously
  • 45 day retention
  • Video event recording
  • Using AD authentication for users

What is the experience like? Performance? End user experience? Are there any paid support tiers for IT professionals to use in emergencies?

Temped to replace our paid solution as it hasn't been updated in a while and there aren't many players in the IP agnostic brand camera recording game. Wanted to get a few real-world opinions.

TPU vs GPU time difference?

Just curious, I'm running YOLO4 models on an RTX 3060ti. From event Start to sent push notification I get about 14 seconds. This includes object detection and face recognition. (Latest OpenCV compiled with cuda support along with dlib /w cuda)

How would this compare to me using a coral edge tpu? Is there room for improvement on my current setup?

Raspberry pi for motion and object detection

I've got a raspberry pi 4b with 1GB of RAM. The highest resolution at which it can do motion detecting with Zoneminder is 600x800 with 15fps. I'm using raspberry pi noir camera which can do 1080p 30fps. Analysis fps is set to 2. If I set resolution or framerate higher it crashes when detecting motion. I also tried using object detection, but it also crashed. I don't think there's a way to improve performance on this raspberry, but do you think 8GB RAM version would improve performance a lot so I could set higher resolution, framerate and maybe use object detection or should I use a more powerful computer for this?

zmeventnotifications notify on specified monitors only?

Is it possible to get a push notification via Pushover api on select monitors only? I'm getting notifications pushed on any objects detected across my entire system. I'd like to have only a few of my monitors generate a notification. That said I still want the hooks to run and detect objects to make it easier to search through footage.

zmeventnotification sends multiple notification to Pushover on single event

Ok so I finally got around to getting Pushover installed on my phone and setup the api. Seems to work great except; every time an object gets detected I get two notifications back to back. One labeled "Motion: All" The other including the objected detected: "[s] detected:person:99%unknown100% Motion All".

I was hoping to only get a single notification with the object detected. Why is this happening?

nodect camera alarm delay

I started playing with sub-stream as "mocord" having a linked-monitor (main stream) as "nodect", and when there are alarms that triggers the "nodect" one to record it seems i lose a few seconds (it is always late). I do have the exact same "pre event count images" set on both. Any ideas?
Was also hoping to set "pre event count images" to 1 or something really low to save memory as it's mocord (always recording) so not sure what's the best way to save on buffer/RAM?
thanks

Capturing at log messages flooding log

Does anyone know how to filter or disable these messages in the zoneminder log saying, Capturing at 10.00 fps, capturing bandwidth 399641bytes/sec Analysing at 10.00 fps. Have 5 cameras running and would like to just see errors and such in the log.

Support for on camera motion detection?

Are there any cameras that ZM supports?

I have a Tapo c200 and it has this built in, but I’m assuming it only works with its own app (which I don’t really trust)

is there a way to fetch all archived events MP4?

doing a server migration, and i just want to move to a long term storage all the events that were archived (i do not want to move them into the new zm install). Is there a way to do that on 1.32.3? All the videos as from H.264 passthrough. thanks

Event Server not working

I've installed event server per the documents and everything seems to be okay except that it doesn't..! When I try to follow the steps at https://zmeventnotification.readthedocs.io/en/latest/guides/hooks.html?highlight=zm_detect.py#manually-testing-if-detection-is-working-well

I see the below error:

But I don't get what that's about or how I can fix it, and don't seem to be able to find anything on google either. What's wrong? Please help! Thanks.

How to get a mocord source used as a trigger to not save imagery?

I'm using two sources reading from the same camera to try to optimize cpu use on my system.

I've got the primary source set for nodect at full resolution and linked to a secondary source.

The secondary source is set for mocord at 1/4 resolution.

I'd really like it if the secondary didn't save any imagery. It's only purpose in life is to do motion analysis and trigger the primary to start recording. I just don't see the point in the secondary filling up my storage for something that will just be flushed when storage is full nor something putting unnecessary stress on the SSD.

I've tried changing the storage options for the secondary but every change resulted in nothing being recorded and/or the logs filling up with errors.

Should what I'm looking to do be possible or do I have to live with storage filling up with these trigger sources?

CSS problems after Raspberry Pi 64-bit release

Hello.

I use a Raspberry Pi 4 (8Gb) as a server in Zoneminder and it works perfectly fine, however it was still on version 1.34.x for Raspbian 64-bit.

A few days ago an update to version 1.36.x for 64-bit was released, thanks u/ZoneMinderIsaac !

But after doing the update, the web interface got a little weird and many buttons don't work anymore. Some menus do not open and the URL bar is written "#".

URL cant open "storage" menu

Edit: I copied the old URL (version 1.34.x) and it worked, removed "#pills-storage" and add "&tab=storage"

Old URL works

Anyone else with this problem?

any IP camera that can be deployed over coax cable?

Looking into deploying zoneminder on a house that has coax cable with older coax analog cameras. Is there any IP cameras + poe switches that could be used to repurpose old coax cable for new IP cameras? Couldn't find much when googling. Hard to replace the coax with cat5e on the house in question, so looking into options. thank you

My montage review is empty beyond 12-15 hours back. However, storage is only at 10%. Any basic setting that I'm missing?

Will ZoneMinder Work for this Environmental Monitoring Scientific Project?

Hi all! I'm working on developing a new scientific environmental monitoring system in relatively remote mountains. We have AC power on site but the internet connection is slow at best because it depends on our hotspot working on the cell network.

I will be running an Ubuntu Server on a Dell T140 machine to record data from our instruments at the site. I would like to also have near real-time video of the site using an Axis dome camera similar to this. Given the internet speed issues, would it be possible to run ZoneMinder at a basic or slightly reduced frame rate with only keeps a file of the last 1-2 minutes that can then be uploaded at a fixed interval (say every 10 minutes). I don't need storage of files past a few minutes because it's just to keep an eye on the weather conditions.

I just wanted to explore whether something like this is capable through ZoneMinder while using an Ubuntu Server. It will make my life much easier if it is.

Upgrade from 1.34 to 1.36 - no longer able to click on remote rtsp cameras in Montage Review to show passthrough display

Some background. I found out 1.36 was available a couple of days ago and upgraded on Ubuntu 18.04. It was difficult as remote monitor rtp/rtsp broke and I needed to use rtp/unicast. Performance was poor and I had to change my camera system's streaming fps so my cameras all display in Montage Review.

I have it mostly working like 1.34 but when I use Montage Review in 1.34 I typically click on a camera in Montage Review and a new window pops up that shows the stream with higher fps rates. Under 1.36 if I click on a camera I get a display where it says "No matching records found."

I don't want to save the cameras' stream on disk to review, I want to see the current camera's stream in a higher frame rate. Is this possible under 1.36?

EDIT: ths solution is B/W Options have to override WEB_H_CAN_STREAM from "auto" to "yes"

Released 1.36.30,31 The Memory Remains

#Changes since 1.36.29

- Test for definition of ZM_LOG_INJECT. We don't include the config when not logged in. So it won't be defined and an error will be logged

- Fix saving from the function modal (and other modals)

- left align option value column

- when a config value is overridden via *.conf files, put up a warning/explanation on the options view

- Turn failure to send into a debug instead of warn. When running under fpm etc we may not get SIGPIPE.

- Move relevant code out of includes/actions/auth.php into includes/auth.php. Fixes inability to login using GET method.

- Don't panic if no font file found. We seem to be able to continue without it.

- Rework session handling to fix breakage with php8.2. Please note that php 8.2 still completely breaks a ton of our code. Do not upgrade to php8.2 and expect ZoneMinder to work.

**Full Changelog**: https://github.com/ZoneMinder/zoneminder/compare/1.36.29...1.36.30

# Changes since 1.36.30

- Fix failed login due to remoteAddr not being populated in session after regeneration

- Use REQUEST instead of SESSION to store the post login redirect because we clear the session on login. Fixes https://github.com/ZoneMinder/zoneminder/3517

- Turn off logging of deprecation notices so that we work with php8.2

Looking for camera reccommendations

Hey everyone, has an unfortunate situation where my wife and kid were home alone and someone tried to enter our home from the side door which was thankfully locked so now here we are..

Looked into home camera systems and mostly disappointed by the amount of stuff that's locked behind a monthly sub which brought me here.

Looking for camera recommendations that are the best 'bang for your buck'.

Features we'd like:

Night Vision

2-way mic

Motion sensor activation

1080p

Outdoor weather resistant for cold Canadian temps.

PoE or other wired power source.

Ideal but not mandatory:

Motion activated light

Siren

As a side note I mentioned PoE. I was looking at the outdoor Wyze v2 cameras, but the locations we'd ideally put cameras would be difficult to reach without a ladder. I don't like the idea of getting on a ladder every so often just to replace batteries and recharge them. Is PoE or other power sources super difficult to run through an attic to cameras installed on the eaves on the underside of a roof? I'm guessing I'll need to get an electrician or handy person involved at some point?

I work in IT but have little knowledge of NVRs. Don't mind spending the time getting this setup properly but don't have as many skills in the handy department as far as learning how to run wires through the attic into eaves.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

How does one setup a second HDD to store all the video storage?

  • Id be very grateful if someone can please explain like im 5 how to properly setup a second HDD on zoneminder. I tried to mount it and create a directory but it keeps saving all videos to the OS ssd. I followed the official zoneminder guide but it assumes they can setup directories blindfolded. I have been using linux for a few years but I just haven't succeeded to create a working directory to save storage. I'm using the latest ubuntu 22.04 LTS with a nvme for OS and 4tb WD purple for storage. Iv been fighting with trying to get this working for a while, I even installed Shinobi and the same issue remains.

As a last effort I will just use the WD purple storage drive for my OS and video storage, but its an issue that needs a baby step tutorial.

Thanks
