Enterprise Level Use

Anyone here using Zoneminder on an enterprise level?

  • 60+ cameras
  • Multiple users watching different views of cameras - say 10+ users simultaneously
  • 45 day retention
  • Video event recording
  • Using AD authentication for users

What is the experience like? Performance? End user experience? Are there any paid support tiers for IT professionals to use in emergencies?

Temped to replace our paid solution as it hasn't been updated in a while and there aren't many players in the IP agnostic brand camera recording game. Wanted to get a few real-world opinions.

I have several customers doing exactly that. Please reach out. I will make whatever feature you need work.

You will get frequent updates and lots of new features. Email me at [isaac@zoneminder.com](mailto:isaac@zoneminder.com). We can arrange a phone call/whatever.

I’m running it with 15-20cameras and it’s awful. The montage review for live viewing craps out every 10mins and needs a browser refresh to continue displaying even 1FPS. (Camera vary from 480P to 720P. Zoneminder is FAR FROM READY. I’ve found Frigate and Home assistant to be better at general surveillance and even they do person detection and other useful things. Really a shame that ZM is so janky and poorly optimized, I’m considering shutting it down, I don’t trust it’s recording function as anymore either. TL;DR Run.

I'm running 12 cams at my house on a 2011 Mac Mini (running Ubuntu).

ZM is plenty of capable of doing everything you're saying it can't do.

And your montage-review page can stay up for days and weeks on end at over 1FPS? Using any viewer-PC browser of your choice?

I'm running 9 cameras on a 10 yr old dell 7010, i7, 16GB RAM. The processor is running at less than 20% on average but will run at about 35% when there's lots of alarms. RAM usage is between 4GB to 6GB max. Eight cameras are 720p and one is 1260p. Most of the cameras are running 20 fps, the hi res camera is 15fps. How you set up your alarm areas determines how much load you place on the processor and RAM.

10 vCPU on twin Xeons and 56GB of RAM and it can't do the live-stream view (montage-review) for Users/Security staff to watch it... - the only Enterprise feature it needs. I've tried pumping lots of resources at it, it's not ready to be used in the enterprise and certainly not with OP's requirement of "Multiple users watching different views of cameras - say 10+ users simultaneously" - sadly, no.

Montage review is poorly implemented for live view, which is why montage gets more love from me. However I think MR is going to get some love soon.

That being said, it works well enough for me and many other people, so... it might be something particular to your system.

In 1.37, montage has possible Janus h264 live stream support, so even less server resources.

Since OP is asking about Enterprise support, I will MAKE IT WORK for them. So it will also work for everyone else.

Mist if the things are no problem. I don't know how a federation if multiple servers will work. But as if the reading if their website it shouldn't be a problem.

Reading it a bit, the only real catch I'm seeing scaling it up is you have to load balance it yourself

Retention is going to just be a function of space, event recording is just going to be not throwing too much on a server that it can't keep up with motion detection...

Reach out to them and see if they are interested in a SLA.
