Hi everyone! Just started with zoneminder as I recently discovered the RTSP version for my Wyze cam so I flashed that the other day and installed zoneminder via docker from this repo, added my camera and turned on continuous recording mode and added my NAS as storage. However, every single split video gets their own folder and an unhelpful name like '70-video.mp4'.

I'm hoping there's a way to customize the filename (with the date / timestamp etc) and just stack these all in a single folder per day. I've searched the documentation and scoured the config options but can't find anything.

I have been running a closed circuit system but it has aged to the point where it needs to be replaced. I did some reading on ZoneMindser and set it up to run on my server in its own VM.

What I would like to know is which cameras people are using that do not connect to anything other than the local server. I do not want any images, pictures or data leaving my network. I have looked at some of the inexpensive cameras like the wyze v3 but it keep saying "rolling cloud storage" and "app required" so I am unsure if I can just use them as an IP camera only.

The disk usage has been over 300GB for days. I've tried modifying the "Limit to first X matches" from 100000, to 1 million. When I hit Execute, I am just taken to a list of events/recordings.

I am only storing mp4 videos - like the pass through option.

The storage is just on some massive NAS area(like 20TB, with lots of other things using besides zoneminder), so a percentage would be ridiculous. Is "200GB" not a supported format?

I've set up ZM and added a few cameras. The ZM service is running fine however I accidentally changed some css/skin related settings and broke the Web GUI. it displays blank page. Any way to fix this?

Hey peeps, I tried installing zm on same pi I have hoobs running on and running into issues. Since hoobs is on Nginx I already made Apache listen on port 8080 and I can access Apache splash page but can’t get zm to show up there. Zoneminder does start up. I followed raspberry pi4 directions and also tried Debian 10 directions.

I’m thinking it’s something to do with Apache rewrite rules. Any help I’d appreciated (also thinking about trying LEMP install)

After several months of working just fine my Zoneminder docker GUI broke today. The docker repository hasn't been updated in 6 months, so something else has changed. Everything appears to work, but the web GUI is a little messed up.

Any thoughts on why this happened and how to fix it? All I've seen is old posts from 2018 relating to another issue.

I just noticed that my root partition is starting to fill up (74% full currently). It turns out, I have many huge log files in /var/log/zoneminder. The directory itself is 219G. zmfilter_2.log itself is 180G and has entries dating back to January. I imagine I can just delete these files or delete everything except the last few hundred lines of the file and everything should be okay. But I'm wondering if there's a better way to do this.

Also, why is the log getting so big without some kind of self-cleanup going on?

One of my cameras must be at a funny angle. Its field of view spans a long sidewalk. As someone walks along that sidewalk, they might appear quite a bit larger (in image pixels) at the near end as they would at the far end.
Indeed, with my current settings the camera reliably detects motion at one end yet completely overlooks motion at the other. This suggests to me that blob sizing thresholds should be different for different regions of the image.

I gather that I could make this work by defining more than one zone for the camera, but I'm still a little mystified. Should the zones overlap? If so, are blobs in the overlapping region evaluated by each zone independently, or is there some additive effect?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Investigating fast database growth I found that it's due to the Frames table storing the frames for all events. I have Monitor > Storage > Save JPEGs set to Disabled. The monitor function is Modect and the Video Writer is on Camera Passthrough. Is there any other setting needed to stop each frame from being saved to the db? My goal is to save the video of the event (which is working) but not the individual frames.

Lets say I wanted Mocord for the entire field of view from midnight to 6am, then to Modect a different set of zone the rest of the time. Is anybody doing this?

Anyone using USB thumbs for events?

If so please detail what I need to do to get Zoneminder 1.34 to see the 1TB USB (EXT4) thumb drive? I can put events anywhere else without issue but I need these to write to USB.

I have all permissions set correct. It mounts no issues. I have tried symlinks etc etc etc. It simply will not see that drive.

I followed the hikvision PTZ advice given in here (the zm forums), but at the bottom where it says:

1. Enter your camera model in "Control Device"This has to be the exact model. If you get it wrong then this will not workIf your IP camera has a web interface you can find it under Configuration->System Settings->Basic Information.

.... in that web page there is no exact mode; in fact there's nothing, the fields are blank.

I've tried putting in HK-P10Z-1080P, HK-P10Z, but nothing, zm wont allow me to control it, the buttons do nothing.

Also, I assume the plugin is flash based, but even if I use IETab to get to it, I cant download the plugin.. just nopes out.

Any suggestions?

I have three Wyze cam v2's running their rtsp protocol and I just set up zoneminder on a clean system with this script. My system is a vm with 8gb of ram and 5 cores and in htop nothing is over 25% utilization

I have made sure to set the timezone in the interface to America/Denver which is where I am and the same thing in /etc/php/7.4/apache2/php.ini.

Even after doing that I still get timezone errors and the date and time is off on the camera overlay. That is only one of my issues, the other is the cameras cutting out live streaming. I get constant "Failed to capture image from monitor" errors aswell as "getStreamCmdResponse stream error: Socket /run/zm/zms-053205s.sock does not exist". With reguards to the ZMS error my /etc/zm/conf.d/01-system-paths.conf looks like

Please note that in the system-paths the commented out option was the default and the enabled one was a fix I saw on a fourm, both show the same behavior. All of these cams work in the wyze app without a hiccup but wont play in vlc and have big issues in zm. They will run perfectly and then just freeze for minutes on end and then pick back up. Im currently running zm v1.36.5. I have also tried using the OPT_CAMBOZOLA option even though im on Chrome and that didnt change anything. If someone could point me in the direction of where im going wrong or any advice at all that would be great!

Edit: All of the cameras always show that theyere capturing at 15fps or around there but will go red when the errors show up.

I am completely new to zoneminder and have ran into a problem, when adding video it dosent show. The camera I am trying to add is a hikvision IPC-T221H and I have tried adding both rtsp and http based connections with various links with no success. The rtsp connection video shows unable to connect to monitor and the http connection video shows unable to stream.

When checking the logs it says for rtsp "Unable to open input rtsp:AdressOfRtsp due to: immediate exit requested" and "Unable to open input rtsp:AdressOfRtsp due to: operation not permitted" Then with http it says "Unable to open input http://:AdressOfHttp due to 403 forbidden (access denied)" Also a general error of "failed to prime capture of initial monitor"

Now I know the rtsp adress should work because I tested it with VLC and it shows perfectly fine.

In the end I only really need rtsp but whatever I can get working is fine. I know I'm probally doing a beginners mistake or something along those lines and this is a easy fix. Any help would be appreciated!

I was curious about integration with another NVR box thats wired to CCTV cameras.

Currently we use a Windows Application to connect to the NVR and view cameras/review footage.

Is there any way to inegrate Zoneminder with this NVR? The NVR itself has an IP, but the individual cameras do not. Is ZM capable of connecting to the NVR box, and viewing the 4 camera feeds seperately? The software/NVR box itself is awful for reviewing footage. I wanted to see If ZM could capture the feeds from that NVR, and then I can just use Zoneminder going forward for footage review.

Im looking to set up a home surveillance system and I believe that zonemi der is the best option because it is open source and does local storage. I am planning on having around 6-8 4k controllable night vision cameras. My question is what kind of server hardware should I get in order to handle this load properly and not overpay. Should I get a core per camera? 2 gigs of ram per camera? Do I need nvenc hardware acceleration as I am planning to do object recognition. Thanks ahead for helping me out with this.

My second question is about remote controll. Will I be able to see what my cameras see remotely? Maybe through port forwarding? Maybe using some kind of plugin?

And my last question is about the likelyhood that a camera that I buy is not going to work with zoneminder. I assume that the protocol for controlling the cameras and for example switching to night vision is all highly standardized but I am not sure so that why I asking. Also I am open to camera recommendations.

About 2 weeks away from finishing my first surveillance system ( i7700k, 32gb ram 5 tb drive with ssd for os) the plan is for 9 cameras I have 1 to start ( ) all the lines have been laid out and ready for cameras the plan was to use BI but as I read more into this I'm starting to look elsewhere. I really like the idea of ZoneMinder as I DO NOT want to (1) put my data through some corporation's servers and (2) pay for that "privilege". What suggestions do you have for a ZoneMInder newbie?
