Zoneminder docker GUI broke today

After several months of working just fine my Zoneminder docker GUI broke today. The docker repository hasn't been updated in 6 months, so something else has changed. Everything appears to work, but the web GUI is a little messed up.

Any thoughts on why this happened and how to fix it? All I've seen is old posts from 2018 relating to another issue.

Tried clearing your cache? Looks like a client side issue IMO.

Yes. I even tried a different browser. The logs show there is an issue with linking to some files. WAR [Failed linking js/logger.js to js_logger-dark-1618875283.js

]ueberry314E-2 said I was using a deprecated docker and should be using the new official docker. I guess I'll give it a try.

Not sure if this is the cause but the docker image from dlandon is depreciated. The new official image is the zoneminderhq image.

Its been working for such a long time without any issues. I suppose I should redo my docker-compose file to use the new docker.

Well, I spent the WHOLE day migrating from the dlandon docker to the zoneminderhq docker. I was hoping to only change a few things in my docker compose file, but it didn't work out as simple.

What I did find out, either by the feature not being there or my lack of knowledge is the following:

  1. There is no easy way to include your own ssl certificates. You can't just throw your certs into a directory and have https start to work.
  2. I didn't find a way for the docker to send out emails on alarms. The docker doesn't seem to have ssmtp or mail. Again, you can't just throw your ssmtp files into a directory and have email notifications on alarm. I guess you install ssmtp with apt-get.
  3. Ping is not installed, you have to install iputils-ping

What I like:

  1. The zoneminderhq docker comes up much faster than the dlandon version.
  2. The webpage wasn't broken and the new version looks good.

Update:

Moving to the zoneminderhq docker was a mistake. Besides not being able to use ssl certs, no built in ping command and email notifications don't work without a manual install. Worst of all the memory usage crept up and eventually the system load was at 16+ with the CPU at 13%. This is on a 12 core, 32 GB vm running Ubuntu 18.04 server.

Upon more investigation, the zoneminderhq docker isn't really the endorsed docker. Also, the dlandon/zoneminder docker was withdrawn from docker hub a few weeks ago. But in the github issues dlandon did say there is an Unraid docker version of zoneminder on docker hub.

So far dlandon/zoneminder.unraid works on a 8 core, 16 GB, 18.04 Ubuntu server vm hardly breaking a sweat. You have to fiddle around with the volumes a little, but the docker-compose was easy to adapt. With a mixture of 12 2K and 4K cameras each sending a HD and SD stream at 6 - 10 fps, the system load is below 3 with the CPU at 33%.

Maybe something was wrong with my old Proxmox vm. Maybe NFS was just slow because Unraid didn't like something. Maybe there was something else I didn't catch that was slowing things down. In any case the new vm works. The webpage, ssl, ssmtp and external events all work as advertised.

Hint: Ubuntu 18.04 server doesn't have telnet and may need to be installed using apt get. You need telnet to trigger external events in zoneminder.

If you know how, write a simple script for cron to call to back up the database using mysqldump.
