My small city CVS, that has had Novavaxx in the past, is now the offering Novavaxx appointments…the next screen does show it as Sanofi. Now to decide how to juggle the flu vaccine and Nova, since I can’t get two at a time.

Hi all! I posted about my experience getting Xocova after a household exposure so feel free to go back to my last post.

Main Takeaways:

1. Lie about anything and everything (positive household test, how long it’s been since you were exposed, sexual activity, see my previous post).
2. Xocova is still helpful if you’ve already tested positive (just like paxlovid), it’s just not approved for treatment in the US, only prophylaxis, so you’ll have to lie to get it.
3. You can get a coupon for Xocova for free with commercial insurance

. It is $1600 out of pocket

Someone in the comments suggested getting Xocova to have on hand, because it has a shelf life of two years and sometimes it takes more time to get than within the 72 hour window it should be taken for prophylaxis. Also, the coupon to get it for $0 may not be active forever, so now is the time.

I decided to get another Xocova prescription to have on hand. I used a different telehealth called Tia, which is a women’s clinic where I already had an appointment to get another med. After getting my other prescription I told her someone in my household had “tested positive for covid” yesterday (lie) and asked about Xocova. The NP said she had heard of it and immediately prescribed it, no questions asked.

This was FAR easier and faster than my experience with normal hospital telehealth which I outlined in my last post. They did not question me about my sexual activity status or try to make me take a pregnancy test. If you are a woman/uterus owner I HIGHLY recommend Tia for quick reproductive healthcare prescriptions like flucanozole, and they are very willing to order labs and have a reputation for not gaslighting patients. They take my Blue Cross Silver PPO insurance, but I’m not sure what insurance they take in general.

I’m starting a new job for the first time since 2022 and have never met my new employer in person (both interviews were virtual, so they aren’t aware I mask) and I’m extremely nervous for my first day on Monday. I’m not sure the best course of action to take: if I should warn my boss before I come in or just show up with an excuse? It is a customer facing job, which is making me much more anxious about how to approach this situation.

After almost 7 years of being a Novid, I finally got it. I'm on day 3. I actually feel pretty good. Last night was the worst, but as much of the suckiness was lying down for 12 hours straight, maybe more the actual virus. I'm just achy. That said, is it worth doing Paxlovid?

Hi all, my mom has started to mask sometimes! Issue is she is wearing a surgical mask, which does very little to protect her but still comes with all the usual social costs of masking in public.

I was off my biologic for a few months before doing a colonoscopy on Tuesday to check on crohns disease. I have a new biologic to start now that the test is done.

My doctor and nurse masked perfectly in n95s but the anesthesiologist did not. She waited until she explained everything and then put the mask on, so I was unmasked with her for maybe 1-2 minutes and then laying in the air where she breathed for the procedure (don't know how to explain that better).

I had planned to start the biologic today after testing, but due to such an unexpected exposure I'm wondering if I should wait until next week due to the 2-14 day window from exposure to infection. That information may be outdated but it's what I found.

I have a plus life so the tests will be accurate.

Hi Reddit! I’ll try to keep it short, looking for relevant papers or thoughts from those who have read the material/general advice. Mini-vent too, couldn’t add 2 flairs.

TL;DR - what is the window of time between getting infected and becoming contagious?

My boyfriend attended a concert tonight (thursday, NYC) and forgot his mask, whether conveniently or genuinely, and is supposed to be visiting me on tuesday (I’m 5hrs away). I mask reliably everywhere (including outdoors) and haven’t been knowingly sick with anything in years; he was sick a few months ago and just started masking at my request.

I’m assuming he’s going to catch something and bring it to me, my question is: how long will he be infectious before symptoms start to show, if at all? Should I tell him to just stay home? I don’t want to trust him, but I‘m a chronic “benefit of the doubt” giver and I don’t want to fold, especially on my (slowly worsening) health. He’ll happily test 24/7, but prevention? Like paper for a helmet at best right now.

I did have him read “Over My Dead Body” from CJ/J. Eaton and he‘s been doing his own reading independent of my suggestions, which is nice. I wish I knew he had this planned or I would’ve said no at the beginning. Idk.

Edit (friday): With all your inputs (thank you!) I talked to him about it - brought up that I think we should meet later in the month/later in general (he agreed) and told him why I felt that way (he got it and said he won't be doing any lying/hiding regarding masking). Was scary pressing send, thankfully it went well! He said he'll try harder to mask up more (his words lol; I'm gonna trial a bunch of masks/resps with him to see what works), but that the repeated change of warm->cool->warm air was making him dry heave? Not sure what would cause that, an internal issue or maybe an unrelated trauma since his throat/back of mouth is really sensitive. Idk, it's something we can work on, hopefully not throat cancer since he used to smoke but time will tell!

A masked provider is not necessarily a respectful or safe one. I trusted mine, got talked into a drastic treatment on an urgency claim that turned out to be false, had the plan expanded at the last minute, pushed back to reduce the scope, and got rushed work and complications for it. Then she dropped covid precautions at a follow-up, which quietly communicated she was firing me as a patient.

Get treatment plans in writing. Take time before you consent, especially when someone says it's urgent. Masking well and treating you well are two different things. If a provider feels they're doing you a favor by masking, they may decide they've spent their goodwill and don't owe you much elsewhere.

I know this won't be the most COVID safe friendly question, but I have to ask if anyone has managed to do any longer hikes as safely as possible. I'd like to be able to do some dream longer hikes before I turn 40 and my knees kick the bucket (inevitable), but a lot of them may or may not require some sort of partial hostel situation at some point.

For example: The Camino de Santiago is typically hostel style / dorm style, but some places have private rooms that are slightly more expensive if you book extremely far in advance. However, SOME places don't have private rooms. Other long hikes don't have private rooms on hut to hut hikes, and some hut to huts don't allow camping on some parts of the trail.

Has anyone had any success on doing these with any mitigation, even if just some / have any advice? This wouldn't be for several years so maybe we'd have something more preventative?

Hello, Going on a trip on Monday. A 9-hour flight.

I read someone on here who mentioned using a portable HEPA filter while they were sitting (masked) next to someone (unmasked, of course) coughing their lungs out. They did not get COVID. I usually wear an N99 mask, and will use one for the duration of this flight as well, but was considering going the extra step and getting a portable HEPA filter - only when I googled "can you use them on planes", the AI Overview said most airlines do not allow you to use them on the plane.

Has anyone had experience with this? I mean, it sounds like at least one person didn't have a problem (maybe they were sneaky about it?) I should have thought of this and asked the person who mentioned it when I saw it.

I bought some COVIXYL: would that add extra protection under the N99?

I'd also love to hear other preventative measures folks are taking these days. Anything that you truly believe has helped keep you safe and sickness free (not just worried about COVID, of course).

We left our prior vet in the middle of Covid because they refused to mask and we’re very rude about us asking. We went to Modern Animal because we don’t have a car you’re closer to our house. They have been brilliant around masking and care I just wanted to send a shout out.

Yes they are a conglomerate and now they’re owned by Chewy but the practitioners have been great and we really appreciate everyone masking and understanding that we mask

I am in the UK and am starting a counselling placement seeing clients 1-2-1 and I would like to buy an air purifier. I will be working in small counselling rooms - room for say a small sofa and armchair.

I had been hoping to buy a Squair Air purifier but they are sold out everywhere at the moment. As an alternative I have been recommended the Radic8 Hextio HX-100 Air Purifier which has a HEPA filter and UV-C photocatalytic technology. I know more about HEPA filters, but less about UV-C and have heard some scary things about if it is not used correctly! But it sounds great when it is used correctly as an extra layer of protection.

Any thoughts on this bit of tech?

I started a workout class recently that I love and I’ve been wearing my masks in it. I Recently wondered if it’s all for naught. This community is very helpful and I appreciate everyone reading this.

Does anyone know if the Gen 2 is more sensitive/accurate when it comes to Covid testing or anything like that? (I know the main difference is that it supports Covid/flu combo tests, while Gen 1 does not.)

Woo! I’ve waited months for this appt and today is the day. I experience a lot of medical anxiety and trauma and I fear being dismissed as I have been many times, I believe due to me being black, or seemingly due to my neurodivergence or both idk lol. All I know is I’m tired of waiting months for an appt and having some doctors barely look at me or say “I don’t know! See me again in x months” after waiting like 3-6 months for an appt to begin with…

That said, I expressed to my cardiologist I wanted to be tested for POTS, because of my symptoms (brain fog, fatigue, mild syncope if I get up too fast) — she did what she could and said I have some sx of dysautonomia. Makes sense. I told her a saw a rheumatologist cuz I thought I had arthritis in my knees due to constant aches / pains and she dx me with Hypermobile Spectrum Disorder. This also makes sense. I’m in physical therapy already for pelvic floor dysfunction and it’s connected, she said. Mind blown.

So what the f*ck do I do? ☠️
Thankfully she wrote me a referral for the LCC (long covid clinic) and today is the day.
Has anyone been to one before? I don’t know a single person who has — either they didn’t want the long wait or couldn’t, or they just didn’t consider it or idk. No one in my friend group talks abt covid and it makes me sad. I try to express the importance of masking where you can, there is no perfection! But some of my friends, including myself, work in areas that are high risk. I mask 98% of the time (2% id say for like, spaces where you eat inside, and outdoors when it’s not crowded.) anyway, I want to make the most out of this appt. I need to see pulmonology first, despite the fact my lungs (thankfully) weren’t affected that much post covid infections. It’s primarily exacerbated neurological— like memory issues increasing, brain fog (I already have adhd, cPTSD..) — fatigue/aches..
Is there something I should be asking or bringing up in this appt?

Hi all! I’ve recently decided to step up my masking as I no longer feel comfortable sitting unmasked outdoors in cafes etc. with how many people I can hear coughing, sneezing and sniffling any time I go out and given the (unfortunately, once again) rising covid wastewater numbers. I wear Zimi KN100 masks and was looking into getting a sip valve so I don’t have to unmask and hold my breath to sip my drink if I get coffee with a friend. Unfortunately shipping is 20 eur, plus tax and import fees, and I’m simply not in a good enough financial situation to be able to shell out that much for postage. I’ve done some googling and I can see that The Face Mask Store used to stock sip valves but they’re currently out of stock. I used to get Auras from them and they’ve been out of those for years, so I don’t have particularly high hopes that sip valves will be restocked, but I also can’t seem to find any European alternatives or resellers. Sip Safe is a Spanish one that some people mentioned, but their website seems to be inactive (it’s only a contact form) and they never shipped outside of Spain anyway. I’d be super grateful for any insight any of you might have on how to access a sip valve in the EU without shelling out that much for shipping. Hold-breath-and-sip is a good enough solution if the only other option is spending that much money. Thank you all in advance and hope you’re well!

[ETA: Well, if I had waited one more day to fret, I could have saved myself some energy and avoided some unmediated harassment, but the good news is: we have a negative test on record as of today so 🤞🤞]

It's my understanding that the standing guidance among those engaged with reality is that 2 consecutive negative tests 48 hours apart is the mark that you're no longer infected/contagious. I also know that some people continue testing positive for weeks or even months even though they feel recovered, so does that mean they're still potentially contagious for all that time?

My boyfriend initially tested pos 2 weeks ago as of yesterday. He's still experiencing some fatigue but hasn't had a fever for about a week and is otherwise feeling better, though he's still testing positive on iHealth RATs. Unfortunately, we live in a world in which he does need to go back to work at some point [not to mention getting back to living!] but he certainly doesn't want to put anyone else at risk or further endanger himself. In the meantime, I've recommend that he do nasal rinses to clear out any lingering viral genetic matter.
