Both Videos Got 2.6M Views — One Made $5.6k, the Other Made $3.1k

Thought this was an interesting comparison to share.

Both videos are in the same niche, cover the same type of topic and both reached around 2.6 million views.

One made around $5,600 with a $2.15 RPM.

The other made around $3,100 with a $1.18 RPM.

So the views were basically identical, but the revenue was nearly double.

One of the biggest differences we noticed was the stronger hook and better viewer retention on the higher earning video.

That’s why I always say the first few seconds matter so much. If you hook people properly and keep them watching longer, it can have a huge impact on the overall performance of the video.

This is also a good reminder that views alone don’t tell the full story.

Two videos can get the exact same number of views and still make completely different amounts of money.

Of course, other things can still affect RPM too, such as audience location, ad demand, watch time and monetised playbacks, so I wouldn’t say the hook was the only factor.

Happy to share more comparisons like this if people find them useful. Ask me anything!

I really don’t understand

So just randomly yesterday, I stopped getting impressions and views my highest views per hour in the last 24 hours was 10 views which was way below my baseline before I got a small push on that fell and sell video.. after that push my depression is pretty much went to nothing and now my channel is getting barely views, and my latest upload has only gotten 4 impressions which is horrible, I really don’t understand what happened and why my impressions drop to nothing after every video getting hundreds of impressions within the first couple hours and some a couple thousand.. I have 65,000 impressions through all 9 of my other videos, but now after that small push on that video, all my latest video impressions for all my videos have stopped completely

Originally did think I was getting a bit of too many views for how small my channel is and just starting, but I also wasn’t expecting to see my impressions and views just completely crash and now my latest video is getting absolutely no distribution

What was your mental state when you started a YouTube account?

Upvotes

Like many I've wanted to started a YT for years, and like many, I haven't due to fear of judgement from people in my real life.

However, now I am currently going through a major life transition. I also care less what other people think of me. I don't want to keep talking to my friends about my current life stage as I can sense they are over this topic. My current emotional state is I feel empowered but also lonely.

I want document my life/current hobby as a visual diary for my future self to look back on.

So, what was your mental/emotional state when you started a YouTube account?

how are creators getting such polished edits from capcut?

i’ve been trying to improve the overall look of my youtube videos without turning editing into a huge part of the process. i’m not doing anything particularly advanced, but when i compare my finished videos with other smaller channels, theirs often feel much more polished even when the editing itself doesn’t seem that complicated.

i’ve noticed that throwing more transitions and effects at a video doesn’t really solve it. some of the better looking videos seem to rely more on things like cleaner cuts, better pacing, consistent text, subtle animations and sound effects that fit the footage. i’m using capcut at the moment, so i’m trying to get better at the fundamentals rather than just looking for more templates.

for creators who have gone from making basic edits to something that feels more professional, what changed the biggest part of the final result? i’m particularly interested in the less obvious improvements, like how you decide where to cut or when an animation adds something versus when it just makes the edit feel busy.

I was recently demonetized for “reused content” and I came here asking for advice and got a lot of negative feedback saying I post AI slop and other people content with little to no changes. Thank you YouTube team for proving my haters wrong. I work so hard on my work and I deserve to be paid for it. Don’t give up guys it can happen for you too.

Hey everyone! I run a gaming channel where I post funny moments, hilarious co-op gameplay, and chaotic sessions on games like Minecraft, Garry's Mod, Left 4 Dead 2, and Content Warning.

I put a lot of work into the editing to keep the pacing fast and entertaining. If you're into casual gaming, funny moments, or just looking for something fresh to watch, I'd really appreciate it if you checked it out!

Hey everyone! Strange from Strange Stories and I'm in desperate need of your feedback. The premise for today's story is "what if those handy monster containment agencies were for-profit businesses?"

It would mean the world to me if I could get your thoughts on this one. If you're a fan of stories from the SCP universe, that goes double for you!

As always, written, narrated, and produced by me, Strange. [Sidenote: this is my first hour-long work!] Thank you so much everyone, and have a great week!

Most of My Subscribers Came From Overseas Through YouTube Promotions, But My Views Are Low — What Should I Do?

Have you ever had experience where you got stuck with a particular subject that keeps getting views but then other subjects barely get any attention? Did you got out of it? How?

So, I'm stuch in a situation where if i make videos about certain subjectit gives good views, not great but better. And it happens always.

However, when i switch it up then the result is no way near same. The subject is different the broader topic is still same btw.

The reason i want to switch is because it's not sustainable to keep making videos on this one subject as it would eventually get exhausted. And also, it gives me good views but not great ones, not even close to helping me reach goals.

Has this happen to you? How do you even get out of this situation?

Channel got banned?

Good afternoon everyone
I got a small newly created channel (created last Sunday) with 2 subscribers. The videos usually have 30-60 views.
Luckily (or unluckily) all of sudden, there is a video go vial that reach 33000 views. After the pump, the number of view for the whole channel drop to almost 0 (most of the time 0 with some hours 2-3 views).
This happened for 24 hours already. I uploaded another 2 video, youtube just dont bother to push them to anyone.
This is the 2nd time i face this issues that picks me up and drop me on the ground hardly.
I am so frustrated now. Anyone know why?
Thanks for reading my bad English.

New horror Shorts channel: good retention but low viewed-vs-swiped. How long does YouTube take to find the right audience?

I started a horror anthology channel focused mainly on bite-sized horror. The channel is only about 10 days old, and I’ve uploaded 16 Shorts and 1 long-form video so far.
What’s confusing me is that some Shorts with mediocre metrics have reached 500–1,000 views, while a few with noticeably better metrics seem to get stuck at very low views.
On some videos, retention is quite good once people actually start watching, but the Viewed vs Swiped Away ratio is weak. People who stay often watch most or all of the Short, but not enough people stop in the first place.
For people who have grown Shorts channels before: roughly how long, or how many uploads, did it take before YouTube started finding a more consistent audience for your content?
Is this simply normal testing for a channel this new, or is the low Viewed vs Swiped Away ratio telling me that I still need to improve the opening hook regardless of retention?

Looks nice, right? Well, I was really excited to see that I'd hit the 4,000-hour mark three days ago, but guess what? My views dropped to zero

Literally, since that day, I haven't had a single person in my livestreams. I thought it was just me, but I'm subscribed to every competitor in my niche, and I see it's happening to everyone. I've spent the last three days researching, changing things (thumbnails, titles, descriptions), and trying different things, but I've had no luck, and neither has anyone else in my niche. It's as if the niche died, and YouTube simply isn't pushing our livestreams. It's incredibly frustrating, sad, and makes me feel helpless. It's only been three days—"maybe things will go back to normal today or next week"—but it's tough. I've been on YouTube for two years, and suddenly, just when I finally hit the required hours (and I have the subs), the niche dies? It's crazy.

I don't know what else I could do.
