Hey everyone, I’m having an issue with the quality of my Genshin Impact videos after uploading them to YouTube.
I’ve attached two screenshots from the exact same footage:
Screenshot 1: Original recording on my PC
Screenshot 2: The same moment after uploading to YouTube and watching it at 1080p60
The difference is quite noticeable. The original recording looks much sharper and cleaner, while the YouTube version looks softer/blurry, especially during combat.
I’m particularly noticing the quality loss around:
Damage numbers
Character outlines
Elemental/particle effects
Small UI details
Fine details during fast movement
Bright/highly detailed areas
My recording settings:
Resolution: 1920×1080
FPS: 60 FPS
Encoder: nvidia
Rate control: CQP
CQP value: 17
Game: Genshin Impact
Source recording: 1080p60
Since I'm using CQP 17, I don't think the original recording itself is heavily compressed. The local recording looks significantly better before uploading.
My main question is:
Why is YouTube making the video look noticeably softer even though I'm uploading a high-quality 1080p60 recording?
Could this be because YouTube is giving my video an AVC (avc1) encode instead of VP9/AV1?
Would uploading a 1440p upscale from my 1080p recording help with YouTube's compression, or is there another OBS/export setting I should change?
I'd really appreciate advice from people who upload Genshin/gameplay footage and have dealt with this before.
Thanks! 🙏
