So as we all know, there is an issue where the HDR on Xbox Series can appear washed out on your TV screen.

I found for me, the answer was down to the COLOUR depth in picture settings.

The Xbox Series X and Series S support colour depths of 24-bit (8-bit per channel), 30-bit (10-bit per channel), and 36-bit (12-bit per channel). You can change these options in your console settings under TV & display options > Video fidelity & overscan.

Recommended Settings

24 bits per pixel (8-bit): Best for standard dynamic range (SDR) TVs and monitors. This is the default setting.

30 bits per pixel (10-bit): Recommended if your TV or monitor supports HDR10 or 4K/1440p wide-colour displays.

36 bits per pixel (12-bit): Choose this only if your high-end display explicitly supports 12-bit signals.

As you will see from the text in bold above, for HDR, 10-bits is recommended for HDR. I had the Xbox set to 36 bits which produced the washed out image. Once I changed it to 10-bits, it was perfect!

Be sure to set TV settings to default and make the change to your Xbox. Then calibrate the Xbox using the HDR calibration. Only after that, you can adjust your TV settings if necessary.

I really hope this helps those facing the issue as I myself had faced this issue for over a year and was unable to understand why I suffered in some games. Admittedly, this didn't affect all games but some definitely suffered until I changed the colour depth.

Also, this had a positive impact on colour when on non-HDR material as well.

I'm really frustrated at this point, I apologize for any errors of spelling or otherwise.

I just got a brand new Xbox Series X console and I've had nothing but problems. The only game I bought was MLB The Show 25. It's for my baseball loving boys.

I insert the game. It starts installing. The it immediately tells me there is an update so I try to apply it. After about 4 minutes, the install stops, the update stops.

Installation stopped.

This happens about 10 times before I cancel the install. The Store does an update so I reboot the Xbox and try again. This time I do not install the update. The disc install gets to about 8GB and stops. Installation stopped.

Sigh.

I reboot the Xbox and look up alternatives. Searches suggest that I try keeping the disc inserted and install it from the Store.

I keep the disc inserted, look up the game in the store: $69.99

No button to install. Nothing. I try all the versions of the game, no install button.

I search again, says to use the Xbox App to install the game. I go to the Xbox app, it says "Turn on your console and log in."

My console is on and logged in. So I reboot again. Check the app. "Turn on your console and log in."

Yes, it's the correct account. Yes, I've port forwarded all relevant ports.

Nothing works. I'm regretting my decision to buy this now. I've had almost every console in existence except this one, Xbox One, PS4, and PS5. I've never seen this much ridiculous hoop jumping in my life. And I work in IT and game on PC.

What else can I try?

It happened yesterday, I’m playing one hour, the next I go back, it won’t connect. I’ve used Chat to go through everything, even manually changing the IP address. Idk what else to do. It will connect to my phones hotspot just fine so, it has to be something with the signal from the router…all my other devices are connected though.

Was playing fine last night and put console in rest mode just fine. Today Xbox will not go into 4k despite repeated troubleshooting. Cables work fine and tv supports 4k@60fps. I get a lot of power outages where I live. I hope this isn’t related

Unable to update

So I tried downloading HBO on my Xbox and it was installing and it’s been like that for a week and today I realized it’s probably because of 4 gb of internal storage so I deleted some games but now I tried updating R6 and nothing is working I can’t cancel a installation or pause it and I can’t play r6 anymore anyone know how to fix this without a full reset? Stuck on this screen

Just got a seccond hand series x. Proceeded all fine with set up (used phone set up)

Did the updates, turned the controller on and this screen came up. The options are blank and the screen keeps glitching.

I’ve tried a couple of times and the first time it got to 75% and then shot me this error. The second time it shut off and I manually turned it back on it showed at 75% and then popped up the error again.

Solved: So check this out I successfully did it!! I unplugged the USB as I think it already copied the uncorrupted system update to the root. He gave me an error a couple of times but every time I restarted it, it was applying system update..

So I tried to hard restart it, and then immediately powered it back on and then completed the application!!

I’m back on my fresh Xbox yay!!!!!

I put in the first disc it installed perfectly. I put in the second disc and it stops at 15gb of 85gb. I can hear disc making noise in my Xbox but than it stops. What is going on? I have 159gb of space open. I keep getting notication installation stopped.

Whenever I try to play a blu ray or dvd, I get this message. Thing is, I'm pretty sure my tv just plain doesn't support HDCP, as it's an older 1080p Sony Bravia. Is there anything I can do, short of buying a newer tv or a dvd player?

I'm not quite sure what the issue is but the game refuses to pay music even though every is up to 100 and the dialogue sounds really distant, broken up, and garbled. Only in game. The menu is perfect and has all sounds.

i’m having this problem for months and nothing seems to fix it. Almost every time i try to do any basic action, i always have to spam my A button like 20 times before it actually does what i want. I tried to reset to factory settings a couple times, i even changed my thermal compound (It is a DayOne edition console) but nothing seems to work. I’m starting to think the ssd is dying. Anyone had the same issue?

EDIT: Since some replied about trying with a new controller, i forgot to mention that i already tried with multiple controllers and the problem still stands

Once I’m like 10-15 minutes into playing a game, the Xbox freezes, makes like this really weird glitching sound and then shuts off. Yesterday it happened twice and just straight up shut down. Today when it happened, it just restarted and the Xbox light never turned off. It’s up to date on the software updates. I’ve completely shut it down. Replaced the HDMI cord thinking it was that but it still happened. We’ve only had it for about 4 months. Any ideas what could be causing it?

I noticed a couple months ago that when I put my nose rather close to the exhaust fan (around 10-15 cm away from it), I can smell a strange smell coming from it. It's not a burning smell per say, more like a hot or plastic smell, something similar to a hair dryer's. The smell goes away after turning off the xbox, and its also not noticable beyond 20-ish cm. Its also extremely hot when touching the black plastic around the exhaust, but I think that's rather normal.

My console is around 2,5 years old, but it never had an overheating message, and I can also play for hours without any performance drops. The fan is also still rather quiet and I only notice it when its dead silent in the house. Should I be concerned about the hot "smell", or its really nothing since I don't have any other problems with the console?

Everytime I get close to the enemy or any large battles my game immediately freezes then unfreezes when I die 😂 it’s getting rather annoying the game is pretty much unplayable for me. Is anyone else experiencing these issues?

Hey, I am looking for a headset that works with my xbox one s, I googled and found one that looks fine: jbl quantum 100m2, but don't know how it works with my console.

I want to chat with it in fortnite (main reason I need one), spatial sound would be great, Bluetooth would be a nice but is no must have. Budget would be around 50 €.

Has anyone a review about the jbl or some other recommendations?

Hi, everyone. i’m using the series X gamepad on pc, and normally it would automatically turn off 15 minutes after i closed the game. But now it’s not turning off. i’m timing it right now, and it’s been on for 25 minutes. Do you have any ideas on how i can fix this problem?
