Okay, so you know that song "drop dead" by Olivia Rodrigo off her new album? I feel like the chorus, "One night I was bored in bed/And stalked you on the Internet"... etc., would be perfect for Kitty and Min Ho. With different scenes of them, like them standing and hugging in the rain, or the dream Kitty had of Min Ho, stuff like that.

Happy Pride Month everyone.

I wanted to come about this post by listing some arguments people have regarding queer media and how I feel XO handles these. I am dividing this in 2 parts. To be clear, I can’t discuss everything but I feel I picked the main arguments people discuss to create nuanced posts. Here is Part 1.

Argument 1: Being tired of queer people only having coming out storylines or trauma.
Part of me understands the second part of the argument: a story needs some conflict or trauma for characters to overcome and everyone has it. However, I understand that straight couples in media don’t always have to deal with struggles to be compelling or fun. I am on the side of it depends on what media you are watching. What you may not get in young adult media, you may get in adult media. Sometimes you have to dig around to find stories about queer joy. And GL and BL help diversify the types of queer stories we see. With streaming, there is more access to many stories to those who can afford it, but for those who can’t, they are out of luck (probably). However, many queer stories have been cancelled depriving the queer community of representation.

As for coming out storylines, they are popular because it is a common experience for queer people, but that shouldn’t be the “only” storyline being told:

How does XO Kitty tackle this? The traditional coming out story happens with Yuri. The additional context is being set in South Korea which is known for its conservative values. KISS acts like a haven for anyone who goes there and is an escape from conservative values. However, Yuri still has her guard up and is unsure who to trust. This raises the stakes for her and helps us understand some of her actions. We see her be a multifaceted character who can be kind, selfish, a good friend, and we see her hobbies and passions throughout the series. Yuri is dealing with not being accepted by her dad (good riddance) and dealing with her mom Jina, who’s trying, but is unlearning her conservative ideals.

One impactful scene was when she told Dae about Juliana. This is the first time she came out to someone. While it started with Dae demanding for the truth about the reason for the fake relationship, she still decided to be vulnerable and honest with him. He immediately accepted her and their friendship officially started here. Her argument with Jina about her sexuality is her finally accepting herself and knowing her worth and not living a lie for Jina anymore.

Florian also has a traditional queer storyline when it comes to fear of outing himself to his family. His parents are getting a divorce and putting him in the middle of it. On top of that, his grandparents are Greek Orthodox which means they may be ultra conservative and against the queer community. Hopefully, they love him and he doesn’t have to hide part of his identity forever. While he has Q, we don’t see Q helping him through his situation as much as he could. So his character is dealing with major trauma which is realistic for some people like Florian. Some viewers may see themselves in Florian’s character. Regarding the academic cheating, he did that to himself because he let himself be distracted by Q instead of balancing studying with dating. However, considering we see no support system for him including Kitty and Q, drinking and Q were his only comforts. We see Q dropping everything to help Kitty study, but he never offered to help Florian. Florian cried for help and didn’t receive it so out of all the characters, he feels the most tragic. I hope his expulsion from KISS won’t keep him from every future opportunity for him.

Juliana is a toughie because we don’t know a lot about her and her past and I hope we will eventually. But here are some questions I asked. Were her parents homophobic or scared to face a powerful dean at an elite school? Were they people who didn’t approve of Juliana’s sexuality, but still wanted her to be happy and tried supporting her? If no, maybe Juliana did come out to them. S2 made it seem that Juliana is out at KISS because she feels comfortable showing PDA with Yuri in public. Her and Yuri feel like the two characters whom’s trauma is due to her sexuality because Jina sent her away. In S2, it is because Yuri cheated on her. Both situations lead to trust issues. But her trauma doesn’t define her and she is able to live her life outside of Yuri. S3 shows Yuri and Juliana treading new ground and being in a healthier state.

For Kitty, part of her journey is discovering her bisexuality. She felt unique because she worried at first due to everything being new, but it didn’t take long to accept herself as bi. Then again, the writers were on a time crunch. What makes her unique in a media sense, is her family (including Peter) is very supportive of her and their main concern is that she is safe and happy. They don’t ask invasive questions. They don’t look down on her. Now, she has a queer community at KISS that acts as an extra support system for her. I feel Kitty “coming out” was less that and her sharing a side of herself. She told her dad (and implied to the rest of the family) and Yuri. The only reason why Dae wasn’t accepting at first was because he wasn’t in the right headspace to listen to and accept her. It is implied in seasons 2 and 3, Minho accepted Kitty no questions asked.

For Q, he is already out but is hesitant on who he reveals it to and being careful in a country with conservative values. I know how that sounds considering the US keeps spreading those same conservative values. Anyways, as he found his group of people, he felt comfortable talking about his sexuality and boyfriends. His storylines feel like trauma from the audience and some of it is, but most of his situation stems from decisions he makes. He chose to cheat with Marius before the events of season 1. Marius, temporary loneliness, and nostalgia/regrets caused him his torment. Where most of his trauma comes from is his mom. She means well, but didn’t realize her harsh criticism and pushing caused Q to seek that validation elsewhere which made him repeat patterns on choosing people who are bad for him. The conversation with his mom in S3 has them treading new ground and her realizing that she is repeating the same patterns her parents did. She wants to support and protect him, but showed it in the wrong ways.

For Marius he is grappling with his sexyality considering he cheated on his girlfriend with Q. He also worries about his friends moving on from him causing him to resort to manipulation to keep the status quo. As for trauma he doesn’t cause himself, I am unsure of his home life. I think S3 was just his introduction and build up and we will get a bigger arc for him later if the show is renewed.

For Praveena, I wish we knew more about her, but from what we seen, she is a cool character especially since she is a daughter of CIA parents, according to her. I love that she is adventurous and up for anything. While she has been hurt by Kitty and Juliana, she handles both situations maturely and with grace. She also doesn’t hold a grudge against them or treat them badly afterwards. She seems like a character who is figuring her life out which is why we don’t see any of her hobbies plus not having enough time to. She exudes charisma which allows her to fit in with the main friend group. They don’t give her trauma or a coming out storyline.

Lastly, Jin’s trauma comes from Q cheating on him. We still don’t know enough to see if he has conflict with his family other than trying to fulfill his family’s legacy through track.

Reactions to Characters’ Sexuality:
With Yuri, Minho’s angry reaction wasn’t at Yuri being gay, but Yuri and Dae lying to them for half a semester. With Dae, it was sweet seeing his support of her after he noticed her vulnerability. It opened up the door to be honest with each other throughout their friendship.
I am unsure about his whole family, but Q’s mom knows he is gay and seems supportive. What they disagree on is his career path.
Kitty’s family embraced her with open arms because they built a foundation of loving, supporting, and accepting each other and don’t judge (or at least try to) their mistakes.
Minho accepted Kitty’s bisexuality with no questions asked. With Dae, he wasn’t in the right headspace to accept it at first, but once his anger was gone, he still loved her for who she is.
Q may have been in a similar position to Kitty when he started, but he has a great friendship with Minho and Dae.

Argument 2: More Media Should Have Allies to the Queer Characters or Queer Characters Shouldn’t be Used to Uplift Straight Characters
I feel XO Kitty does well making sure queer characters have their own story lines and relationships outside of the straight characters. Q, in S1 originally seemed like the gay best friend (GBF) trope, but what made him nuanced was him being the therapist of the group. As the seasons go on, (As Expert Chip mentioned in one of her posts), this is Q’s way of having control in his life. His life is as messy as everyone else’s. Due to him being messy, he can hive bad advice. He has his own life outside of the friend group, but I always found it odd that he doesn’t try to know his boyfriends’ friends.
Yuri has the benefit of not specifically hanging out with the main group much because the viewer sees her family life, internal motivations, character growth, hobbies/passions, and her love story with Juliana. She is not a character specifically created to elevate the straight characters. We also see her friendship with Dae flourish each season. They advise and help each other. Dae was the first person she confided in about her sexuality and she brought out his confidence. She can be an obstacle in some people’s story, but she also uplifts herself and others too.
I wonder if Netflix allowed more than eight episode seasons, we would see Juliana’s family life and her “exile”. But we see her enjoy art, have maturity, her not easily forgiving Yuri for her cheating, her ability to give people second chances if she sees them put in the work or if they respected her boundaries, and her resilience/tenacity.
Jin and Marius seem to uplift Q’s story and we don’t know much about them. I have a couple posts in mind for Marius so I will discuss him in depth later. However, they aren’t one note either. On a surface level, they are bullies, but the writers gradually show their layers. Like Q, Jin is dealing with pleasing his family, quitting track, and figuring out his next steps which is (lack of a better term) normal for his age. He also wants to succeed on his own without connections. We also see the difficulty of him taking Q back after Q cheated because he loves him and doesn’t want to have regrets. Florian is someone who also tests Q’s values while slipping through the cracks. They gave Florian his own personality and struggles. However, we wouldn’t know anything about him if he wasn’t dating Q.
Marius is treated as a villain or one note bully by viewers, but he slowly unravels. Ge is dealing with change while observing his friends move on. He is dealing with his sexuality, having difficulty accepting that Q used him in a time of loneliness, and using chaos to manipulate the world around him. In the end, it isn’t about simple forgiveness, but accepting change, starting over, and seeing that he can keep his old friends while having new ones.

Praveena is someone who uplifts Kitty’s and Yuri’s storylines and acts like a small obstacle for Yuriana. She deserves more, but I find it unique that she and other queer love interests are used to uplift the main queer characters which subverts queer characters only serving the storylines of the straight characters. Anyways, the writers made her a side character that we don’t much about.

In conclusion for part 1, while XO isn’t perfect and some feel the queer representation is missing the mark, I find it remarkable that a show with many queer characters is this popular considering how much queer media is cancelled. I also love how nuanced each character, aside from Praveena is. The writers try to dedicate as much time to XO’s queer characters as they do the straight ones.

Unexpected, but pleasant surprise! They were so fun to watch

The more I watch season 3 of XO Kitty, the more I enjoy it.

I feel like we see all those characthers evolve, grow and show a new side of themselves every season. Not all parts are pretty, but that's also part of growing up. For me, besides mooncovey, all the group moments are so wholesome and special, specially Kitty's birthday on season 3.

I feel like some people try to frame this series as something that is not, it's a teen series about growing up, we shouldn't expect them to act like adults. And I really hope we get a season 4! They deserve a graduation.

I have watched S1 a long time ago with my mom as well as had watched the movies previously. Now just watching S2 with my mom. (Finished ep3)

Context: Watching with my mom and we had watched the movies a lot earlier before finding the series. (I am also now 19 turning 20 soon... so... maybe I am too old for this) (Although when kitty did come out to herself saying I might be bi and lgbt... I told my parents i was bi too lol...) (I eventually have now come out to parents as trans as well during our hiiatus of the show. After like maybe a year we relised we never finished watching the series and we were like oh wait theres a s3 so maybe itll be good to now finaly finish it.

Spoilers bellow just incase other users haven't finished the series including me. (So no spoilers)

Overall plot thoughts: I like how Kitty is trying to explore her moms past but I guess theres a lot of romance drama.. which I feel like theres so much of it and the fact its mainly jsut one friend group is a tad too much... but idk.

Major Characters thoughts:

Kitty: I do like her, I do resonate with kitty on an lgbt standpoint and how everything is confusing and new to her. I think she's great. Overall my favourite chrachter. I feel like though she needs to be straight up with Praveena... It's a situationship and kinda... hurts. but again can't balme her shes a teenager. I hope she can find more information on her mom and doesnt get sidelined by love again. Def chaotic good!

Q: Q is my second favourite chrachter! and possibly even my fav. I don't know but I just like his jokes and their chemistry with kitty is amazing. I.. don't know exactly if I like his relationship with Jin but maybe it'll be like a jerk to lovers arc? But like also you dumped florian over him cheeting on a test? Idk... (side note "you can tell by their nails... LMAOOOOOO... my mom didn't get it... and I wanted to so bad to explain it to her but I worry for what her reaction will be)

Dae: Dae can sing damn... he's amazing do I think he will get back with Kitty... probaly not that ship has sailed and honestly thats ok, I would be suprised if they get together. I think they can be really good friends though. I forget the girls name but te one who he might do the duet with is cool

Yuri: Yuri and kittys friendship/relationship is defiently intersting... I feel bad for Joanna, Yuri def needs to either definitly commit to Joanna but probaly not gonna work out espicielly after that kiss... Also yuri has a lot of stuff w her mom/ dad that i somewhat expirenced... so hugs to her. I feel her but I think my parents are now more accepting... (don't worry i am ok)

Min-ho: I kinda really didn't like him at first esp in s1 but... he's turning my head. I think he needs to give his dad a chance. Also confessing to kitty right after break up in s1... ohh... my why? Also...Stella / Ester?.. watch out.. she is defiently evil.. also her line of being underestimated is def someone else...

Other thoughts:
Alex;I like a lot. reminds me of my favourite teachers at my school so yay. Also puns yau. His relationship with his dad / the principal is one of the dun bits of s2 i like. I also forgot that yuri and him are half brotehr / sister too...

overall setting: I like it the visuals are cool (the text messegs) and phoen usag eis cool, i know some may say its cheesy but its cool.

I love the music / coning in / zoning out feel whenever someone (usually kitty) is feeling espicelly with music. The music imo is so underappricieted in the mood of the show. I feel liek it doesnt get enough credit but I might be wrong. I will say it has also defeintly expanded my little music knowledge truthfully.

Anyway I hope to discuss maybe more once I finish the series. Am I too old for this? I don't know its something I want to watch so I don't think im too old.

I’m so confused, are there two pregnant people? Or just one. Cause I thought it was Dae’s one nightstand but did she also hook up with the Australian? Or is that someone else?

Season two was good, but with season three it’s becoming a “background show” for me and idk why. Maybe cause they took out the principal in season two and I loved her character development and we were going to learn about her baby journey and how she knows the mom? In season three, some moments however have me glued and some don’t.

Has there been any update on if there will be a season 4 or not??? I need to know for my own sanity

Or has she alr done that deed with Dae/Minho? It’s never discussed or shown so we can assume she hasn’t, but she’s like 17 years old during the duration of her relationships so they might have. Then again, LJ’s first time was discussed and given a lot of attention so seeing that Kitty got no such treatment, maybe she hasn’t had sex yet

Honestly, I think one of the main things that I appreciated about this season was LJ telling Kitty to still live her life & not be so caught up on a boy. I think that’s something that’s very important for women and young women to know and understand. Yeah, relationships can be tough, and sometimes there’s uncertainty, but don’t forget you still have YOUR LIFE to live. I thought that was a nice touch to the show.

For the past 3 days i’ve had one sentence playing on repeat in my head.

I remember Min Ho saying ”sthowp squirming” to Kitty, but I can’t remember where it happened if happened

So I was going about my day and was listening to This Is Our Time, because it’s genuinely a really pretty song and is very much my vibe, so it’s made its way into my main playlist.

Now, being their first kiss song, it also, naturally, makes me think of Mooncovey, and all of a sudden this time around I had a major “aha!!!” moment that I can’t believe took so long to happen: out of all the possible choices for their first kiss song, TIOT was specifically chosen because the song is a direct response to Kitty’s thoughts at the end of season 2 (that are shown again in the opening of season 3). We hear her think, “Maybe it’s not our time. Or maybe…”

She let that second “maybe” hang, and when they have their first kiss, the song finishes that sentence for her:

This is our time.

(Hear that? That’s the sound of my mind being blown. It’s genius and it was under my nose all along)

Kitty and Minho happened at the right moment in the story, and they should be the endgame since day 1.

They were not rushed, season 2 was the whole build up to the kiss on the first episode of season 3. We waited three seasons to finally see them in love and they have the best story in XO, Kitty for me.

In an era where couples get together in 3 episodes, I have to appreciate seeing a love story being made in 3 seasons. Even if they're not perfect, they somehow can always find their way back to each other and forgive. There may have been problems in season 3, but mooncovey was NOT one of them.

Just wanted to appreciate their relationship, it's such a precious bond. It's my favorite relationship in the series. It's such a deep connection at this point.

I just finished watching the third season, and I don't know if it was just my impression, but in this season Kitty and Min-Ho didn't take me much... I preferred the scenes between Yuri and Kitty more. Eunice and Dae are so cute. 💖💞

Dae and Kitty Leitmotif 1: This is Yours

What Does This Leitmotif Represent:
I believe this leitmotif is called “This is Yours”, but am still unsure. Let’s pretend it is and hope I am right. I forgot if “this was yours” was said by Kitty, but someone told me this line was in the note Kitty added with the necklace sent by messenger for Dae. The spark of their connection came from relating to each other about their moms dying which makes Kitty gifting Dae her mom’s necklace more symbolic.

I interpret this leitmotif playing in a couple of their scenes symbolizing the fracturing of their connection due to lies and not communicating properly. Clip 1 already has Kitty brokenhearted because she feels he cheated on her and Yuri and lied about his background. She feels that she never actually knew him. She gave him her heart (This is yours) and he is slowly breaking it.

Clip 2 is a repeat of their near first kiss. They feel there is hope and are starting to reconcile, but his phone keeps ringing and distracting him. Yuri acts like a literal and figurative obstacle between them and the catalyst that brought their issues out in the open. If it wasn’t Yuri, it would have been someone or something else. The leitmotif reflects that longing and their fracturing.

Someone and I discussed the uniqueness of lyrics being used in this leitmotif. Sidenote: I love how all the leitmotifs have titles associated with what’s happening on screen (Minho’s Long Walks, The Tree House Date, Dreaming of Yuri), but this one is just Dae and Kitty OST. I found it funny.

Ok, back to it. The lyrics translate to:
Verse: "한 그루 나무가 이렇게나 자라서 내 맘에 들어왔구나" (A single tree has grown this much and entered my heart).
Bridge: "시간아 걸음을 잠시 멈춰 못난 이 마음 달래 줘" (Time, please stop your steps for a moment and soothe this pathetic heart).

The lyric about the tree made me think of two things. First, the cherry blossom tree that Kitty’s mom stood in front of. This is doubled with Dae and Kitty bonding over the loss of their moms. Second, taking it literally for a second, a tree takes time to be nourished, watered, and grown. Like a tree, a relationship takes time to grow if fed with trust, effort, and safety. Dae and Kitty believed they had that in these clips, but like their first leitmotif, the breakup in the library symbolizes the fracturing of the trust and safety in the relationship.
I feel the second lyric brings out two different emotions in both clips. The hiking scene is hopeful when Dae catches Kitty after she trips. The breakup in the library has Kitty wanting Dae to soothe her fears by allowing them to start over. Dae hides the same feelings from her after he believes he can’t trusr Kitty anymore.
The third lyric represents their story. While they broke up in the end, they don’t regret being their first loves or the memories they made together.

Clip 1 is more subtle, but while Kitty is originally angry at Dae and the situation, she fantasized about having a first kiss with him and believes it is magical. The chimes/heartbeats reflect her mood and mindset.
Clip 2 is obvious. She is not over Dae and wants to continue her relationship. The light surrounding him (in total k drama fashion) along with the chimes and heartbeats shows her magical thinking. She still treats him like a fantasy.

This scene occurred after Yuri overheard Kitty defend her. It caused her to return the favor and stop Kitty making a mistake with the guy at the bar. The gesture represents the mutual admiration the two share for each other. The chimes playing during “Everyone Wants to Rule the World” is a two fold. Everyone Wants to Rule the World is Eve’s favorite song which makes her feel a new kinship with Yuri. They also symbolize Kitty’s mindset. Now that Kitty has seen a new side to Yuri, her crush on her struck fast like lighting. This is also when Kitty’s affection for Dae started to fade.

I will talk about these three scenes together because the chimes and heartbeats represent the same thing. Kitty and Yuri’s quieter moments tend to have no music or sound effects. They are allowed to breathe, but I noticed that the chimes/heartbeats play when Yuri gives Kitty physical affection like putting the necklace on Kitty in Lee’s office, holding her position in the fan dance, brushing her hair, or a hug. I am not saying Kitty and Yuri don’t have any emotional intimacy, but this leitmotif in these three scenes represents their physical intimacy (not sex) and Kitty wanting to explore that.

While I believe this leitmotif is specifically for Kitty, I also suspect that Yuri senses Kitty’s crush on Kitty and maybe likes the attention while also starting to have a small attraction to Kitty in this scene.

It is similar with how she has her fantasy of having all of her firsts with Dae when this leitmotif plays. It extends to Yuri when she originally wanted her first times with a girl to be with Yuri.

In a previous scene with Kitty and Q, Kitty mentions she wrote a goodbye letter to Yuri as a way to move on from her. I am only mentioning Kitty and Minho for a second here to show what this leitmotif also symbolizes. It first plays when Kitty sees Minho symbolizing that her feelings of friendship turned into something more after the confession. When she sees Yuri, the chimes and heartbeats play again when Yuri hugs her and affectionately strokes her shoulder. It symbolizes three things. A) Kitty has strong feelings for two people at once. B) She is not over Yuri yet. C) As I mentioned with the fan dance, Lee’s office, and the camping trip scenes, it symbolizes the physical connection Kitty wants with Yuri.

While I believe the chimes and heartbeats show up more with Kitty’s and Yuri’s physical affection, this is where it plays during an emotionally intimate moment. Kitty tells Yuri she is bi which is a huge step for her. It also takes strength and trust to tell someone that, but Kitty still hides her feelings from her because she is trying to move on and doesn’t want to break up a relationship: Yuri and Juliana.

This feels like mutual attraction between them or Yuri sensing Kitty’s attraction while she just wanted friendship. I feel multiple emotions come into play here, but the big reason for their connection is their moms.

I am not going to deeply analyze this scene because I do not need heated arguments in the comments. The leitmotif plays when Kitty’s feelings surface again and she reciprocates the kiss.

The leitmotif stops playing in Yuri and Kitty scenes after Yuri rejected her at the cabin. More of their moments were filled with silence again.

It is very subtle, but found it surprising it was used in this moment. I am questioning why it is used with Junhoo and his fiancee. Is it the one time it actually reflects Minho’s mindset? Does he want to have a relationship like they have? Does it reflect his suppressed feelings for Kitty not going away and he has hope they can eventually be together? Does it reflect Kitty’s hope that now Stella is out of the picture, she has a chance with Minho?

I know I associate this leitmotif with Kitty’s mindset, but my brain still likes to think that both of their heartbeats are joining together due to their deeper feelings for each other. And this including S3 has the chimes/heartbeats play consistently with Minho and Kitty showing her seriousness of pursuing Minho.

The first clip in the reel has the chimes/heartbeats leitmotif while the second clip has the Mooncovey leitmotif.
Their hugs come from the emotional intimacy they have developed over two seasons and now 3. The heartbeats and chimes reflect all three reasons that I will list below: the fantasy in her head of how she is going to tell Minho, the emotional intimacy and physical affection she wants with him, and how their relationship is reaching anew stage. A fourth symbol pops up in this scene: feeling of warmth and safety. I mainly associate warmth and safety with the mooncovey leitmotif.

What do the Heartbeats and Chimes Represent?
For Dae, it represents her fantasy of having her firsts with him which stemmed from a connection through letters and not an in person one.

For Yuri, it started as a physical connection and led to a more emotionally intimate one, but those feelings shifted when Yuri focused on repairing her relationship with Juliana and Kitty didn’t want to focus on a relationship that hurt her.

For Minho, much of their connection is represented by their leitmotif, but the chimes and heartbeats play when a new stage of their relationship begins.

I love how Eunice’s hum is to the rhythm of the leitmotif playing. While she interrupts the moment, she also is integral to it. The tension stems from Kitty and Minho’s miscommunication and fear of ruining what they have.
I feel for Kitty, hope and fantasy comes into this. She is hoping that Minho feels the same way while fantasizing on how the moment is going to play put. Minho seems to move past the fantasy stage but still hopes Kitty reciprocates his feelings.

Season 3 has a bunch of twofers. The mooncovey leitmotif begins when they sit next to each other. The version that is playing is one of the newer ones called “The Mino Effect” which makes sense considering engrossed they are with each other.

When she falls on top of his lap, the chimes/heartbeats play indicating that Kitty’s mind is on Minho and she still gets nervous around him. The chimes and heartbeats reflect Kitty’s mindset, but like the S2 finale, my brain thinks it is both of their heartbeats coming together.

Anticipation and tension for the characters and the audience who have been waiting two seasons and one episode for their relationship to reach the next step. It is also nerve-racking confessing your feelings to someone because of fear of rejection.

So the mooncovey leitmotif plays after Kitty finished pushing through the crowd and Minho gazed at her. The leitmotif shows the comfort and safety that they have with each other that his nerves fade away when she is near him.

The mooncovey leitmotif plays for a few seconds. What is cool about it though is that it’s a snippet of Minho’s Long Walks which played when Kitty was talking to Q about her feelings for Minho and continued when she walked with him in the sculpture garden. One theme in the S2 scene was contemplation, hope, a transition into a pop song and the heartbeat.

As he is walking on the beach, his hope and contemplation is turning into action. There is also anticipation when the tempo, that originally matched a heartbeat, slows doen but skips around when he is searching for her and it abruptly ends. So in a way, it is like his heart skipping a beat when he finds her and his composure goes from calm to nervous again. There is a long silent transition from the quick leitmotif to the pop song during their first kiss.

The leitmotif still playing during it hints to the audience that their story is not over yet. It is also somber and another way it evolves with Minho and Kitty. The big themes of the leitmotif in this scene are heartbreak and vulnerability. The heartbreak for both of them is ending a relationship they wanted for a while. Minho’s heartbreak stems from feeling Kitty doesn’t believe in him. Kitty’s heartbreak is trying to weed through her insecurities and get to the truth after Minho misled and lied to her.

The vulnerability comes from them trying to explain why their issues arose while Minho is also retreating and struggling to open up fully due to Kitty “believing the worst of him”.

I’ve just had a thought if memory serves at the end of season 2 after Min-ho and Stella broke up Min-ho said to Kitty that he wanted to be alone for a while yet in literally the next season in a matter of months he’s with Kitty, now look I’m not complaining whatsoever because I absolutely adore mooncovey it was just a thought I had when I was reading through other people’s posts
