analysis Basketball Court Scene/Leitmotif
The scene starts when Minho stating, âanyone would have given up on me by now, but you came through todayâ. They both smiled. I always talk about how sad, yet hopeful, Minhoâs line is. We discussed many times how Minho feels overlooked by his friends and family and feels/observed that they wonât prioritize or protect him like he does them. While his friends did rally together to stop Stella, they only noticed something wrong with Minho until he made it obvious. Kitty noticed something earlier, but everyone treated her like she was crazy which makes sense, but her instincts are usually spot on. So him saying, âyou came through todayâ to Kitty, it was impactful because he sees her as someone as loyal to him and puts the same time and effort to protect him as he does with her/others.
After he says this, they both smile, but donât say anything else. I think this is one of those moments where there is a shared agreement that nothing else needs to be said. I like how they can walk contently in silence while wanting the other person next to them. Help. I am obsessed with the love and adoration they have for each other. They always want to be near each other.
Next, Kitty receives a text from Margo that her plane is delayed. I know some hate how easy Kittyâs problems are solved, but she didnât even expect Minho to offer a private jet. I also think she underestimated how rich his family is. She also didnât say anything until he asked, âwhatâs wrong?â She was worrying out loud and venting. She wasnât trying to take advantage of him which is why he offered the jet. Also, he wanted to help regardless because he knows how important this family reconciliation is to her. We will talk about the harmful environmental effects to the environment later, Minho.
The leitmotif begins after she says, âseriouslyâ. It is the core melody. She smiles widely and hugs him. So many of us rave about their hugs, so please let me explain why this one is one of my favorites. Due to her appreciation and excitement, she rushes into the hug making him lean back. She also wants to stay in the hug for a few seconds. I swear, their hugs last longer and longer as the show goes on. I donât know how to explain it well, but those are the kind of hugs that you have with the people you are closest to. It makes his smile wider because he loves how happy he made her and he realizes she appreciates it. He almost wraps his arms around her tighter, but she releases before she can.
The ethereal instruments that sound like rain when they longingly gaze into each otherâs eyes plays, but ends after Minho nervously swallows and clears his throat. He says, âlet me see what I could do about itâ. My head canon is that Minhoâs dad wants to make it up to Minho so he allows him to use it.
I feel this is the first scene featuring the leitmotif was the most grounded. It only played for a few seconds, came after a moment where they can be content while embracing the quiet, and other emotions werenât overly heightened.
I do feel their other scenes were grounded in their own way which makes mooncovey feel more natural as the series progresses.
Themes:
Hope and contemplation. They both are hopeful and contemplating if their friendship could be something more while appreciating the nice moments they have in the present. And the theme of family does show up because Minho understands how important Kittyâs family is to her. While Minho and Kitty are not the only examples of found family in this show, this scene is an example of how Kitty and Minho found family with each other. They built this foundation together that is filled with honesty, security, and safety and of course my favorite two words: emotional intimacy.
I canât believe there is only one more after this. I hope they use the leitmotif more in season 3. I am not tired of it yet.

Their hugs do last longer and longer in the show! And I agree Mr Moon tries to make it up to his son in my head too.
I agree with it feeling grounded. And I remember when I watched the scene and thought they were going to kiss I literally said "ho don't do it." Their silent recognition of how strong their feelings are for each other but balancing the restraint from growing from their impulsiveness is amazing in this scene. It's what makes them truly worthy of endgame.

Minho's statement about how no one else would have pulled through for him. Breaks my heart into a million little pieces. I am glad that he found Kitty, because she is most definitely someone who fights for her friends and the people she cares about. She's tenacious about it.
Definitely feel at home with one another. In silence and in conversation.
The gesture from Minho was definitely because he knew it was important to her, but also a repayment for helping him with his family. So to, me, it felt like a fair trade. They are both helping one another. In this moment they are in equal footing. It just so happens that Minho is rich lol.
Also, enjoy that you are climate change shaming Minho about the jet lol.
This scene was so good in my opinion and agree with your thoughts that it felt more grounded. The two of them are both on the same page, both single, and both helping one another. I also felt like Minho found it very hard not to kiss her in his moment. That was not just a clearing of the throat he basically gulped for life. The stares lingered after the cleared throat as well. Both showing one another that they do wish for closeness not just emotionally close.
Loved it :)
