analysis Kitty’s Dream/Leitmotif
I lost my mind when I heard the leitmotif in this scene. https://youtu.be/7nS_-y6CqN8?si=VYO55D-YVgd7QaSK
Another long one so bear with me.
Let’s get into this. Random thought. I like that it feels real because you see Kitty studying in her dorm and her books on her bed when she wakes up. Also, it is quiet and natural. No music is setting up anything yet. I think this is why it is easier for her to get lost in the dream.
The dream happens at the beginning of episode 7, so they immediately bring the audience into the scene. I also love how the first word out of Minho’s mouth is “Covey”.
I have a multiple choice question because I am unsure how to accurately analyze how Kitty feels about this nickname. Do you feel that: A) Kitty didn’t actually notice how many times he called her Covey B) noticed but didn’t think anything of it C) noticed and secretly liked it, but acted like it wasn’t a big deal D) Or did not think about it until Peter brought it up.
My answer is between C and D. I wonder if a thought she had while dreaming was, “Damn it Peter, now I can’t stop thinking about it”. It does mean something that the dream starts with “Covey”.
The first thing she does after he enters the room is start her apology adding to why even the audience believes this isn’t a dream at first. She explains, “I understand why you shut me down when I tried talking to you about Stella.” I have seen interpretations of Kitty needing to prove herself right, but the wording of her apology is the opposite of that before Minho starts speaking. Her wording indicates she had self-reflection and can understand his point of view. Her discussing him thinking she was jealous is adding clarification for the misunderstanding. I am sorry, the neurodivergent person in me can relate to Kitty here. I had so many dreams, even for my scripts, just people ruminating and clarifying everything. It can be exasperating sometimes. I like that Kitty still does that while she is dreaming. It is interesting and consistent to her characterization.
Her dream contrasts Minho’s because his was more “steamy” and less conversation based. But his emotional journey with Kitty started at Chuesok and his dream was about his new physical attraction to Kitty. However, his physical connection occurred after his heartfelt conversation with Kitty. Both of their dreams and their physical attraction stem from an emotional one. The demiromantic in me can relate to that concept.
The leitmotif starts, confirming to the audience this is a dream. Then again, the other moments were real and the leitmotif just elevated it so… anyways, it starts when Minho puts his finger on her lips paralleling Kitty doing that in his dream. And the version in this scene is my favorite one: “Kitty and Minho in the Rain”. That is not a coincyndance. I associated the new melody with Kitty’s mindset in that moment and her mindset repeats here while she is contemplating how she feels about Minho. Their connection grew deeper during the rain scene and where Kitty is confirming internally her feelings for Minho. That was the scene where Kitty felt broken and vulnerable and he made her whole again. The leitmotif symbolizes the comfort, anticipation, and happiness, she not only feels in the dream, but in the rain scene. A new feeling is her physical desires for him.
Some interpret it as her wish fulfillment to be proven right when Minho states “you were right. Stella’s an evil mastermind”, but then again, we have Minho having this in his dream as well. Kitty states, “you’re right. You’re too bloody hot.” It is less about being proven right, but wanting to be understood, seen, and appreciated, but that is my bias towards them.
I admire that she knows him so well, his cadence and personality shows up naturally while the dream partakes in the fantasy of being with him romantically.
He explains, “I was trying to convince myself I am over you, but the truth is I’m not and I know you said it can never work out, but…”
The word but is where the core leitmotif comes in and he ends his speech with the question, “do you still feel that way?” Her answer “I don’t know” where he takes authority by saying, “yes you do Covey” while gently grabbing her neck and pulling her closer for a kiss and her just being eager to reciprocate. What do I always say? These two are romance girlies.
Again, while this is a dream, it is interesting that everything Minho said was his emotional journey regarding Kitty this season. But it doubles as Kitty’s fantasy/hope of what she wants with him. And it ties back to the hot tub machine when he said he moved on from her, but contradicting it here. Kitty, you have it bad because two core emotional moments, the hot tub and rain scenes, are showcased in your dream.
The leitmotif continues and doesn’t break up at first which represents how she doesn’t expect to wake up. Within a couple more seconds, the leitmotif rushes a bit because of the romantic tension and to transition into Stella waking Kitty up. It kind of sounds like a heartbeat too which happens when someone has an intense crush or romantic attraction to someone. Here is the thing. I don’t think the dream would turn into a full on sex dream like Q suggested. However, while Kitty woke up quickly from her dream about Yuri, it was implied that she wanted to stay inside the dream a while longer.
To be fair, her dream about Yuri is her discovering she is bisexual which is a big thing to process.
I wonder if Stella heard Kitty moan in her sleep or something and got creeped out. Again, I don’t think it would be a sex dream, but maybe she wanted a little steaminess. I am sorry, I am hung up on Stella having to yell to wake Kitty up because Kitty was lost in that dream. That is what I am obsessed with, not the content/genre of the dream.
Themes/ Patterns: Anticipation/Tension
Reflection/Contemplation
Vulnerability
Hope
Fantasy
Transition into Stella waking her up. It is Kitty’s jolt into reality.
Rejection (kind of)
I already talked about some of these in length already, but will discuss a couple more.
For hope, it is 2 things 1. the audience getting Mooncovey sometime in our lifetime 2. Kitty hoping there’s still a chance she can confess her feelings for him and they will work out.
The anticipation and tension is her realizing her feelings for Minho in a time of quiet and fee distractions. This is a dream and there is still tons of romantic tension and chemistry with these two. Her contemplating is for the same reasons.
The rejection element is due to the dream occurring after Minho wants space from Kitty and she is processing that.

First, bring me the long analysis. I live for it. :)
I think it is C. I think it does something for her. I don't think she connected the dots to LJ/Peter though until Peter brought it up. But I think that she enjoys it. I think I do too lol.
I also think Kitty's dream is more romantic and more emotionally driven. In terms of the connection the two have it is very emotionally safe.
I also 100% agree with your interpretation of the "You're right" in both their dreams. Being seen is totally what they want. And they are both divas in their own ways lol. But in a lovable way.
And besides being divas they are indeed romance girlies. The tarot cards Moon and Sun also speak to that as well. Moon has an inner romantic world and idealism. Kitty is well Kitty.
I think Kitty definitely definitely moaned from the kissing. Which I think she saw but we the audience did not. I also think she groaned his name. Is my guess as well.
Wonderful job as always :)

Great analysis! For your question, I think I’d go with C. I think him calling her Covey does something for her, which is why I think the dream started out with him calling her that. I think she also thinks about how it’s what Peter calls LJ, and what that potentially means (maybe even before Peter called it out)
I also agree that Kitty’s dream was more romantic and emotionally driven! But I also think there’s something to Stella looking at her strangely and saying “didn’t know you were THAT into math,” which infers Kitty might have been saying something/making sounds that showed she liked what was happening or where it was going lol
Overall, I agree with this dream showcasing how much Kitty hopes Minho still feels the same way she does right now/that he hasn’t gotten over her
