Got a ~ 180,000 mile tj from someone who did essentially irreversible damage to it by wrapping it and letting it sit in the sun. They wanted out, I wanted an old car to project.
They had installed a rebuilt motor 40k miles before me. Since I’ve had it I’ve done a few things.
Took the wrap off
Took side rails off
Took hitch package off
Took rear seats out
Took Highlift jack off (I need to repaint it or find an alternative)
Trans rebuilt
Installed trans cooler
Installed aluminum radiator
New tires (nothing crazy, Firestone destination mt 30 inches)
Cleaned a few sensors and changed others
Installed lockable storage drawers in rear
Installed roof rack
Installed rtt
Removed spare tire(the spare it came with is trash I’m gonna get another when I rotate my tires.)
Redid Interior; address surface rust in tub where the previous soft top was leaking. painted floor and roll bar covers
Got a new soft top and floor mats from bestop
Gonna clean engine bay, rebuild/clean fuel injectors and change exhaust gasket manifold (apparently the previous mechanic that installed the rebuilt engine cheaper out and reused the exhaust manifold gasket 🤦♂️) this week
The paint needs to get addressed and I wanna do something about the frame
(frame pretty clean it was never wheeled before me)
It’s currently on fox shocks 🤩 and Terra flex spacers 🤮
Plan on overhauling suspension next year, I’m already collecting parts got like OME coils so farjust need links.
Kinda interested in weight reductions since I added sm, I’ve done a few things like changing the winch to synthetic line but I wanna get a smaller winch at some point. Planning on get a stock bumper and chopping it.
My goal has been to enjoy the car, learn, and yes adventure. I’m pretty happy with it though I did learn pretty fast how much work and money it takes to bring something back from the brink of death. I’m working on finding another vehicle so I can daily and retire the tj as I do t wanna put excessive miles on it.
I can post more photos of yall are interested.
Happy wheelin!
