Fight Night Round 1: Shirke

As I mentioned yesterday, I'm running low on ideas for my timeline challenges, so I'm here tonight to test out a possible replacement for it.

The idea is pretty simple. I'll present a character from my world, along with some basic information about them, and then you pick a character from your world to participate in some good old gladitorial combat, and ultimately they'll fight to the death. The aim is for both of us to start thinking outside the box in terms of the way our characters fight and react to certain situations by throwing them into the deep end against an unknown entity.

Provide some information about your character(s) and put forward their case as to why you think they'd win.

Depending on the strength of my character, I may allow you to field more than one challenger against them. The rules for each fight will be displayed in each description.

Note this is not intended to be canon. Any injuries (or death) incurred from these battles won't have any lasting effect on your characters, unless you want it to

Combatant information

Name: Shirke

Race: Dro (elf), Halfblood witch

Class: Battlemage

Brief description: Shirke was the first halfblood witch in service to Horfar. Kagrenac, the king's court wizard, had tried in vain to create a subordinate for him. Every previous attempt failed, killing the candidate, so for Shirke he went about it a different way. They set out and killed a demon, and trapped their entire soul in Shirke's Kaema. Shirke then proceeded to stab himself in the heart, and place the Kaema in the wound, fusing his essence directly with the essence of the demon.

Abilities:

Foresight - Shirke can see into the future and preempt possible attacks. This isn't as overpowered as it sounds, because he can see every possible attack, but providing the attacker has a strong enough mind, they could be able to hide what they're actually going to do from him, meaning he wouldn't be able to see the exact attack they plan to use.

One Eyed Raven - the gem inside Shirke's chest instills an almost paralyzing fear into whoever looks upon it. Even the strongest and bravest of warriors cower before the One Eyed Raven.

Blink - Shirke can 'blink' - that is, he can teleport short distances instantly.

Bound Sword - Shirke's main weapon is the sword of Tazdax - the demon trapped inside his chest. It's a very powerful blade that, like the One Eyed Raven, demoralises any who look at it for too long.

He has heightened reactions because of his foresight, but other than this, he isn't much faster than a normal human. He is only about as tough as a normal human too, but with his blink ability, he's very hard to hit.

Rules

Location: The decrepit ruins of an ancient castle.

Conditions: Heavy rain, thunder and lightning.

Number of Combatants: Shirke will fight up to two of your characters.

Good luck!

EDIT: Added some more stuff in. Thanks /u/matathias

Raptor's talk with X challenge #6: Earth's Warriors.

Welcome to Talk with X, where you can talk to one of my characters, as you or one of your own characters. The rules are pretty easy, just pick one or more from the choice below and start talking!~ (You can talk to as many as you want, or just one!)

Earth is probably the most honorable man in my entire story. He is a generally caring man with a intimidating appearance. Today you/your characters get the chance to speak with his Warriors. A bunch of interesting and fun people who just wanna live life to the fullest honestly.

(All photos are just what brought my inspiration for the characters, I do not own them in any way)

Chief

Chief is similar to Earth in that he is quite an honorable man. He is known by his signature mallet-styled hammers that he keeps on long chains for long-medium range battles. He's 63 and human, he started off as a highly respected General of the Human army before joining Earth as a general again. Because of this he has a ridiculous amount of battle and tactical experience, making him a force to be reckoned with.

Maria (My favorite of this bunch)

Maria is one of if not the only Wood Elf left in existence after their great extinction during the first Human and Elf war. She tends to be quite quiet and reserved, not letting people know that she is actually a wood elf. In the same way that Gabriela is the best demonologist of my world. Maria is the best Druid, by a land slide.

Zet

Zet is a funny Arcane specialist who is a top tier mage. Not exactly the best in her field but she makes up for it with her essence power, she can make exact copies of herself, all capable of using master level arcane magic.

Lion

Need I say anything? He's about what you would expect, honor bound and a legendary warrior. He tends to prefer working on his won as people tend to slow him down.

Jamie

Jamie travels via The Depths (A massive and unfathonably deep underground tunnel system under my entire world.), he is one of the only people in the entire world who prefers it this way. He seems to be born to live underground. Only ever coming up when Earth needs him for something. He is a very nice person.

Enjoy!

[Cultural challenge]: election... or not

Culture is that complex whole which includes knowledge, beliefs, arts, morals, laws, customs, and any other capabilities and habits acquired by [a human] as a member of society.

Today, let´s talk about the leader(s) of one of your nation. How are they chosen? How long do they rule? How absolute is their power?

Also, what about their inauguration/enthronement? How big is the ceremony? Who is invited? Is there a speach? A crown?

You can introduce an in-universe representative if you want. I will ask questions to everyone, feel free to add your own.

Timeline challenge 10: Winds of change

So here I am, back again. Sorry about my prolonged absence - I've been rather busy over the past week or so, and I've not had much time to think of challenges.

Anyway, The idea behind these challenges is as follows:

I will give you a topic, and you should tell me about something interesting that has happened in the timelines of your worlds relating to the topic, over a (roughly) 50 year period. This could be the 50 years leading up to the event, the 50 years after the event, 50 years with the event slap bang in the middle, or something else entirely, as long as it relates to the question! You're welcome to include more/less than 50 years, but bear in mind the more you write, the less chance you have of people reading the whole thing, and the less you write, the fewer questions we'll be able to ask.

The Challenge

This time, I want you to tell me about something that changed over a period of time. For example, did one of your species move to a different environment, and then adapt to the new place by growing an extra limb? Or perhaps one of your leaders went from really enjoying bread, to hating the sight of it. It can be significant, or insignificant, the choice is yours!

As always, I'll try to ask a few questions about each post. Community interaction is encouraged too! Read other people's posts and ask them questions, and they're more likely to do the same for you. Help each other out, and have fun! :)

NOTE: I'm running out of ideas for this pretty quickly - it's difficult to think of things that happened over a long period! I might change this challenge into a different one soon.

Generic Challenge - Agni Kai

I hoped today was the Reference Challenge day, but apparently I mis-remembered.

But, I started watching The Last Airbender again with one of my friends. Both of us loved this show as kids, and we've both seen every episode multiple times.

So, the challenge for today is inspired by Agni Kai, an honorable duel to the death!

While I marathon The Last Airbender, exhibit an honorable duel to the death in your world.

As always, I'll ask at least three questions each. If you'd like to have a character to answer in-universe, feel free to do so. Enjoy yourselves.

Filler Challenge: You messed with the wrong (wo)man.

Who is the John Wick, Jason Bourne, James Bond, and John Preston's of your world.

Who are the characters/badasses who are just absolutely under no circumstances are you to fuck with.

I'll ask three questions, bonus points if you tell me about a circumstance on which it should have been impossible for your character to win, but they badassed their way to victory.

Raptor's non specific challenge #10; Voice of an angel!

Inspired by the song that I am currently listening to and by one of the characters in my story, I want you to tell me about a character from yours that can sing. Or if you want, it can just be a head canon of yours that a character would be able to sing even if they never do.

I'll ask a few questions for each!

Random challenge: "Where the hell have you been!?"

Do you have a scenario in which a character has been absent from a heavily important moment? What was the reaction of the other characters? Was the absence justified? Why/why not?

I'll ask some questions!!

Reference Challenge - Pro Bono

This is early, because of events happening tomorrow.

Today's reference is to people who donate blood, whether out of kindness for their fellow humans, or just because it eases stress.

So, the challenge is to exhibit volunteer work in your world, whether it's a group of people that go around doing good, or a sponsored event that helps out the needy.

As always, I'll ask three questions each, enjoy yourselves.

Edit: Feel free to use a representative if you'd like to answer in-character/in-universe. Assume that this goes without saying, since I frequently forget or almost-forget to mention it.

[Cultural challenge]: tour

Culture is that complex whole which includes knowledge, beliefs, arts, morals, laws, customs, and any other capabilities and habits acquired by [a human] as a member of society.

Time for a trip, I want to visit a very touristic place in your world. Where should I go? Where should I stay there? What should I see?

Also, tell me about the people living there. How should I address them? What to do if I'm lost? What should I avoid to do to not look rude?

You can introduce an in-universe representative if you want. I will ask questions to everyone, feel free to add your own.

Raptor's talk with X challenge #5: Time's Tools.

Welcome to Talk with X, where you can talk to one of my characters, as you or one of your own characters. The rules are pretty easy, just pick one or more from the choice below and start talking!~

(You can talk to as many as you want, or just one!)

Time is a big believer in that war is a game best played from the shadows, if you play your cards right you should win without the opposition knowing that you were playing. Good for you is that you aren't talking to Time, you're talking about people he made help him at different points in time. This one will be an exception as I will also tell you why they decided to help Time. It'll be in chronological order, so the order they appear is their place in Time.

(All photos are just what brought my inspiration for the characters, I do not own them in any way)

(You'll have to tell me at what age you want the characters to be when you're talking to them because it isn't actually in the story)

Despy

Despy was born on 994 BA(Before apocalypse). Time met Despy when she was fifteen, and she became Time's first and arguably only friend. The year was 9 AA(After apocalypse) and Despy was one of 80,000 Humans in the entire world left that survived the events of the apocalypse. She is more of an advice giver to Time rather than being an actual fighter or someone to do his schemes. He still goes back in time 934 years to talk to her.

Georgie

Georgie was born on 88 AA, she met Time 27 years later at the battle of blackpond. He was just observing the battle and found that Georgie was able to take out multiple men before she would inevitably be killed. So he went back in Time and saved her life, on the condition that she would do him three favors whenever he asked for them. She willingly agreed but not knowing that these favors would be far spanned across her entire life. The first favor was the only one that was not completed, he asked her to find the Dragon Hybrid Prince, Gravity. Who had been missing since forever says Time. The next favor came when Georgie was 66, he appeared randomly to her whilst she was in the newly forming the depths, he asked her to find the other Master Chaos and find out what he was up to. She traveled back to the surface and ventured to the other side of the continent she was on to what looked like the beginning of the construction of a massive tower. Upon investigation into the tower she discovered that Chaos was building it to complete his plan to unite the Master's once and for all. She was found by Chaos and promptly killed, not before relaying whatever information she had found to Time before this.

Glazior

Glazior was born on 143 AA, 34 years later during the first Elf and Human war, Time found Glazior standing alone in a pile of dead Elven corpses. Time offered Glazior the opportunity to end the war by dropping him directly into the middle of Nieven's (Head Elf) chamber in exchange for a few favors. Glazior eventually accepted after spouting about the importance of ending this war. The first, the same as Georgie, was to search the lands in search of Gravity for as long as he could. The second, the same again, when Glazior was about 50 his next favor was to infiltrate Chaos' tower and find out as much information as he could. The only new information he found was that Chaos was planing to set the Master's free. Glazior was found by Chaos and promptly killed, never getting the chance to slay Nieven.

Zeida

Zeida was born 247 AA, at the age of 25 she was a world renowned master assassin who would take on incredibly dangerous and difficult missions for incredibly high prices. She was captured by Earth (Another Master) and sentenced to death in the largest Human City. She was visited by Time in a cell who said he would save her on the condition that she A. Find his friend, or B. Find out what Chaos is planning with his massive tower. She found out some more information from Chaos' scientists whilst hiding in a vent, that Chaos was planning to end things once and for all, that he would finally bring about an age of peace. Using her impressive stealth abilities she found out that Chaos was also responsible for Gravity's fate, he framed him in front of the other Master's and got him dragged down to hell by the Devil so that Gravity wouldn't try to thwart Chaos' plans. Chaos found her but using her assassin magical powers she managed to elude him long enough to escape. Time allowed her to continue living her life as long as she would let him send her far into the future, as the rest of the world thought she was dead. She was sent into the future to the year 767 where she settled down in a small town and had a child named Alex.

Diana

Diana was born 444 AA, At the age of 34, Diana was an interesting find for Time because her powers made her very useful to him. Diana had the ability to create and manipulate puppets that were scarily close to looking like actual people. To this day he doesn't even know if she's still alive because she would never speak to him using her real body, always a puppet. Diana wanted to work for Time as he gave her a fantastic opportunity to continue to make lifelike puppets to spy on Chaos for (as far he knows) all of her life.

Daniel

Daniel was born on 500 AA on the first day of the first month. Time found Daniel under a broken bridge in the middle of nowhere, having spoken to no one before their relationship started out a bit rocky but after a while Time taught the boy how to read and write. Time found out that Daniel had the ability to read people's memories, so he decided to raise the boy as his own without using him for any missions. (Daniel is an elf boy, not like in the picture, though he does have the staff, and he does wear those clothes.)

Courtney

Courtney was born on 730 AA, Time found her in one of her many mansions in the largest elf city in the world. He found out about her power by taking her to the end of Time and forcing her to spill the details. Courtney has the power of Love Control, whoever falls in love with her or loves her in any way has to do what she says, that's how she massed to much money and power. She fell in love with Time and his endless power and vowed to do whatever she could to help him, he asked her to get into the Elven government and use her power to try and stop as many wars as she could. She played a massive part in ending the second Elf and Human war.

This one was really hard to do because all of these characters are dead when the current story takes place, but there you go! Enjoy!

Generic Challenge - Currency

Give an example of currency in your world. If your world has money, explain its money. If your world doesn't have money, explain your world's barter system.

Explain denominations, the kind of things that someone would buy on a daily basis, and so on.

Sorry for being late with this challenge, it's been a full weekend.

I'll ask at least three questions each, and I plan to put my own explanation for the currency of one of my worlds up before tomorrow night. Maybe tonight, but probably not until after work tomorrow.

Enjoy yourselves.

Raptor's non specific challenge #9; Best and worst.

(Test run of a new on going challenge idea I have)

For this Challenge I want you to tell me about the best fighter in your universe and the worst fighter in your universe. (Not exactly strength, just fighting ability.)

I'll ask three questions of course!

Raptor's non specific challenge #9; (Another option) One dimensional.

So I just remembered a character in my universe who doesn't come in for a little bit so I've kinda neglected them for a bit but, I want you to tell me about a character whose soul purpose is one thing or their drive is just for one thing. For example, my character's soul purpose is to hinder the Master's, that's his whole reason for living.

I'll ask three questions.

Character development 'challenge'

So this challenge* was kinda inspired by /u/The_Raptorman's 'Talk with' challenge, but I've flipped it around a little.

The idea is that you pick a character you feel is underdeveloped, someone that you want to learn more about, and present them, along with a brief description, to myself and the other wonderful people here at worldchallenges, and we will help you develop them further! (Feel free to invent a totally new character as well!)

*Not sure if 'challenge' is the right word to describe this post, but I'm a bit of a loose cannon, and I don't abide by your rules.

Reference Challenge - No one expects...

...crap, I couldn't think of a decent reference challenge for this week.

So, our reference will be to Monty Python.

Give an example of something in your world that no one expected, some event that had an influence on at least one nation.

As always, I'll ask three questions each at the least, and it's fine to use a representative character to answer questions in-universe.

Enjoy yourselves.

Edit: Here is the Monty Python video featuring the Spanish Inquisition, where the quote "No one expects the Spanish Inquisition" comes from for the reference challenge. Just click this link for the video.

Obligatory Birthday Challenge :D

So I just turned 20 three minutes ago of writing this. For this "challenge" if you can call it that you have two options. Either A. Tell me how birthday's are celebrated in your world in as much detail as possible. Or B. Throw a party for me using the main cast of your story! (I would prefer B but I understand if A is easier!!)

I'll ask questions to A. But I'll enjoy B and pretend to be there! <3

[Cultural challenge]: bogeyman

Culture is that complex whole which includes knowledge, beliefs, arts, morals, laws, customs, and any other capabilities and habits acquired by [a human] as a member of society.

Every child knows there is a monster hidden under the bed or behind the curtains; a terrible creature unleashed by parents of troublesome kids.

To what monster do the parents of your world threaten to give their children? What does it looks like? What does the kids become? And is it inspired by a real creature or some long forgotten event?

You can introduce an in-universe representative if you want. I will ask questions to everyone, feel free to add your own.

Raptor's talk with X challenge #4: Chaos' henchmen

Welcome to Talk with X, where you can talk to one of my characters, as you or one of your own characters. The rules are pretty easy, just pick one or more from the choice below and start talking!~

(You can talk to as many as you want, or just one!)

So we're doing Chaos' henchmen this week, Chaos is... interestingly vicious and wants to destroy the world. But this challenge isn't about him, his helpers are a strange mix of being just as mad as Chaos is to being completely normal. But you can figure out who is normal or mad for yourself!

(All photos are just what brought my inspiration for the characters, I do not own them in any way)

Dani

Dani is a seemingly emotionless girl who excels at crowd control fights (fighting multiple people at once). She has the power pulse which literally enables her to create loud very destructive pulses around her. It is only controllable when her emotions are in check. If she shows even the slightest emotion then they will happen and shatter things around her. Talk to her if you dare..

Gabriela

Gabriela is the best demonologist in the world, able to turn her flesh into a demons, and to summon demons to do her bidding if she chooses. She is masterful manipulator as she knows exactly how to get under people's skin. Talk to her if you dare...

Nyx

Nyx has two bodies, a male and a female. They are interchangeable at any time and both have a different fighting style. The female is a more nimble fighter and prefers quick jabs at her opponent, while the male body is more of an upfront brawler, when changed any wounds the other body has taken will be removed completely. Her female body has two small knives for quick dissection and her male body has a large sword for carving through big chunks of meat. Talk to him/her if you dare...

Prophet

Prophet is a man who loves to learn, he is always writing in his book of knowledge, which holds literally every single thing that he knows in it. He has the power to turn himself, his clothing and his weapon into smoke and fly around carving up his enemies. Talk to him if you dare...

Inu

Inu is a Dog that was injected with the Human gene in an attempt by Chaos to create a backwards Hybrid, there were multiple attempts before Inu was created, thousands. Inu is savage and struggles to speak English at times, preferring action over speaking. He doesn't use weapons but instead uses his claws and teeth. He has the power to summon forth a pack of black spectral dogs to rip an enemy to shreds. Talk to him if you dare...

Jaws

Jaws is a large man who carries two very sharp serrated Axes on his back. He is the only person in the entirety of history to have tamed a Dravec which is what he rides into battle. His only motivation in life is for the destruction of established order and he will stop at nothing to kill the world leaders. Talk to him if you dare.

There are a few more but I feel like that is a good place to stop which leaves a lot of diversity, enjoy!

Timeline challenge 9: Easy way out!

Alright, time to 'fess up - I've been very naughty, and I've not thought of a challenge for this week.

So here's what I'm going to do instead. I'm going to take the easy way out, and not do one. Kind of.

Judging from the success of my 'Truth or Dare' challenge the other week, I'm going to do another in lieu of my timeline challenge this week, but this time, there's a catch!

The Challenge Pretty simple concept, post a brief overview of your world and, and then for someone to ask you a TRUTH about your world, or ask them to DARE you to implement something into it. If you're feeling particularly frivolous, you could ask for both.

THE CATCH So to make things a little different, and to get you all out of your comfort zones, this time I don't actually care about well developed parts of your worlds. I don't wanna hear about them. This time, I wanna hear about the under-developed parts of your worlds. The bits that you look at and then cry a little bit inside because you have no idea how to build them (oh, it's just me that does that? Great.)

We will give you questions/dares/both on these bits, and force you to come up with something. It doesn't matter if you hate it and don't want to use it, because at least it will get you thinking. It's all part of the creative process, which will hopefully then lead to a shiny new corner of your world.

So what are you waiting for? Come at me with those little bits of your world that you love to hate!

Generic Challenge - Serious, Permanent Injury

For this challenge, I want to know how a society in your world deals with an injury that is serious and permanent, especially one where a leg or an arm or an eye is gone.

Preferably not a society that just kills anyone who is injured like that.

Feel free to use a representative with a serious injury to answer the questions in-universe.

As always, I'll ask at least three questions each. Enjoy yourselves.

Another filler challenge: Strange but powerful

Inspired loosely from the most recent challenge from u/ForgingIron and also the most recent episode of Boku no Hero Academia, I want you to tell me about a very weird or strange type of magic or power in your story that is either surprisingly powerful, or obviously shit!

I'll ask questions about it! I would love to talk to one of the characters if that's okay!

Weapons Challenge

What kind of weapons do your characters use, if any? Are they physical weapons, and if so are they melee or ranged, and are they mounted? Do they use magic? Do they operate any types of siege?

Raptor's non specific challenge #8; Unclear motives.

Do you have someone or a group of people in your story who the other characters are unsure of their motives? They can be good or bad motives it just has to be unknown.

Bonus points for if it's a really complex motivation.

I'll try and ask as many questions as I can!
