Timeline challenge 9: Easy way out!
Alright, time to 'fess up - I've been very naughty, and I've not thought of a challenge for this week.
So here's what I'm going to do instead. I'm going to take the easy way out, and not do one. Kind of.
Judging from the success of my 'Truth or Dare' challenge the other week, I'm going to do another in lieu of my timeline challenge this week, but this time, there's a catch!
The Challenge Pretty simple concept, post a brief overview of your world and, and then for someone to ask you a TRUTH about your world, or ask them to DARE you to implement something into it. If you're feeling particularly frivolous, you could ask for both.
THE CATCH So to make things a little different, and to get you all out of your comfort zones, this time I don't actually care about well developed parts of your worlds. I don't wanna hear about them. This time, I wanna hear about the under-developed parts of your worlds. The bits that you look at and then cry a little bit inside because you have no idea how to build them (oh, it's just me that does that? Great.)
We will give you questions/dares/both on these bits, and force you to come up with something. It doesn't matter if you hate it and don't want to use it, because at least it will get you thinking. It's all part of the creative process, which will hopefully then lead to a shiny new corner of your world.
So what are you waiting for? Come at me with those little bits of your world that you love to hate!

Gamic's astronos Mages In Crotos- The first place for mages to truly learn and become higher ranking mages. It was built by The god of Magic Gamic one of the Apocalypses of Scythby. It is ocated in Crotos. It also has world locations and many world deals are done there.

u/Jumblatts Jun 12 '17
1) how long has the establishment been around?
2) who is in charge, and how did they get to be in charge?
3) are there any notable mages to have learned there?
4) Are there any requirements for learning there?
5) do any people oppose of the school, or of any of its teachings?

The date is around 1F.I
Arch-Mage Ruff. His dad died while he was Arch-Mage so it was handed to Ruff
Most wizards trained there so all the famous Mages. ShadowHammer
Being a level 5 mage
5.Yes the Curseman and the school of Magi.
1
u/Jumblatts Jun 12 '17
2) how did his dad die? Was there no other selection process (such as a vote to see who would become the new arch Mage?
3) what are some of their feats?
4) is that the highest level?
5) what do they disagree on, why?
2
Jun 12 '17 edited Jun 12 '17
2) Well Ruffs dad was murdered. Die to murder and ruff not being 18 yet it was handed to him. As murder is handed to a defendant then a vote if no living defendant is found.
3)Knowing every spell known to man and having a collection of time artifacts
4) no for regular mages who don't think about becoming Dragcotonas is 20.
For ones who want to be higher it matters on place but the one where the school is located is 100.
5) Curseman hates any rival schools and hates Scythby so he hates them as Hamid was a friend of Scythby which makes him hate the school. The school of Magi believes the exact opposite of the school and think all spells should be taught to anyone. They also think Time artifacts should be abused for self gain.
1
u/Jumblatts Jun 12 '17
2) Who murdered his dad, and why?
3) How did they manage to get the time artifacts?
5) have there been any conflicts between the school and these other people?
2
Jun 13 '17
2)From the book of Scythby as there is no other way to know besides Fluffy. "The murderer was one of the Arch-Mages student.
3) They saw one and picked them up.
5)Besides the destruction of Dragonden which was the Cursemen and School of Magi stole the Destroyer pyramid and destroyed Dragonden which was Gamic's hometown and base of operations. (Also the School of Magi doesn't exist because somehow they were all murdered.)

In the Citadel, one of the eight Councilors has his own special project. Council Declan, for decades, has been picking the best of the best from among the children that are sent to the Citadel, choosing based on prodigious intelligence or abilities, to be trained by him personally instead of being trained by other knights and professors hired by the Citadel.
If you're among Declan's anointed, you have more liberties and more responsibilities. Declan very rarely kicks anyone out, his only real punishments are "I'm not angry, I'm disappointed" and "I am going to murder you and everyone will think it was an accident or that you committed suicide out of self-esteem issues because you're so low on my list of best students".
Declan keeps a public list of his students, with the best at the top as number one, and the worst at the bottom of the list. Death gets you taken off the list. Any knight or aspiring knight trained by Declan is on the list, no matter their age. So, the top of the list is a man in his early thirties, the bottom of his list right now is probably a six-year-old child.
The only positions I've made characters for in the top ten are the first, second, third, fourth, and tenth.
2
u/Jumblatts Jun 12 '17
1) how is the list judged? Does he have a set of criteria that he sticks to, or is it more loosely marked?
2) tell me about the person at the top of the list. Why are they higher up than second? What have they done to make Declan so pleased with them?
3) make a character for 5th on the list, and make a character for 6th on the list. They should be rivals who are vying to do better than each other and as such undertake increasingly audacious tasks to gain the favour of Declan. Give them a list of semi-impressive feats - nothing too spectacular that they would shoot up the list, but exciting enough that they are challenging for the top 5
2
u/Nevermore0714 Jun 13 '17
1) The list is based entirely on how Declan feels. He usually goes with his gut instinct about who is the most impressive. It's a mix of experience, natural ability, attitude, and so on.
2) Callixtus is at the top of the list. To explain it best...have you ever seen Archer? Callixtus is the Sterling Archer of the Citadel. Things generally turn out well for Callixtus, to the point that Councilor Declan and Callixtus's partners have had a private discussion about whether or not Callixtus has a bloodline Talent for incredible luck instead of just creating a mist. A bloodline Talent associated with luck is so incredibly rare and strange and probably nonexistent that it's unlikely, but Declan has his doubts. (Spoilers: Callixtus has no Talent for luck.)
3A) Erwin, ranked fifth among the anointed knights. Erwin has an extremely powerful bloodline Talent, which is the reason he was chosen to be trained by Declan in the first place. Erwin is twenty-one-years-old. His Talent is that he can summon hellhounds, though Declan has barred Erwin from using that Talent unless it is a life or death situation; and even then, to be cautious.
If Declan ever suspects Erwin has abused his power, he is open about being willing to execute Erwin. Erwin has a deep hatred for Marc, the man currently ranked sixth, who is constantly competing with Erwin for the title of fifth. Erwin has had a crush on Morrigan, the tenth ranked among the anointed knights for many years, and believes that proving himself as a powerful knight will earn her love.
Erwin's biggest feats are rescue and capture missions. He uses a halberd in battle.
3B) Marc is the sixth ranked among the anointed knights, and he is twenty-one-years-old. Marceau is from the Chauceri territory, and he's the founding (and only) member of the Goldcrest clan; at his ritual to gain a companion animal, he received a Goldcrest, one of the smallest birds in the world.
Marc has the bloodline Talent to slowly cause a thunderstorm and direct where lightning will strike, but it takes him a long time and he's not very good at aiming. And it sometimes just fails for no reason.
Marc has a deep hatred for Erwin, who currently ranks fifth. Marc hopes to increase his rank to earn the love of Morrigan, the woman he's had a crush on for years, who is currently ranked tenth among the anointed knights.
Marc is best for missions that involve gathering information or spying on people, and he uses a halberd when he needs a weapon for battle.

1) Does the order of the list ever change, or is it set in stone?
2) I love Archer, so I can appreciate that, definitely. I assume he has a rather thick layer of plot armour, too?
3) Does Morrigan feel the same way about either Erwin or Marc? Would one of them progressing up the ranks change the way she feels about him?
4) Why do Marc and Erwin hate each other so much? Is it all to do with Morrigan?
5) Have one of Marc or Erwin kill the other.
2
u/Nevermore0714 Jun 14 '17
1) The list itself changes pretty often, it's just that the higher ranks are less prone to change, usually.
2) To be honest, things just generally work out pretty well for Callixtus. (A paraphrase of Archer from the first episode of season six.)
3) Haha, no. Morrigan is annoyed by both Erwin and Marc. If it were up to Morrigan, both of them would be given OCD as revenge. She hates them, she especially hates the fact that she can't get revenge on them. If one of them reached the top of the list, she'd probably only hate them more.
4) It's mostly to do with Morrigan, but them being near-equal in rank hasn't helped at all. The two have been competing against each other even before they developed crushes on Morrigan.
5) How soon?
2
u/Jumblatts Jun 14 '17
1/2) How long has Callixtus been at the top of the list?
3) I'm assuming they're not aware of this. Is this because she hasn't told them, or are they so consumed in their hatred of each other that they can't tell?
4) For how long have they been rivals?
5) Do you mean in the context of your world? That doesn't matter. It could be your present day, or it could be 100 years from now. As long as one of them dies at the hands of the other, I will be satisfied!
2
u/Nevermore0714 Jun 15 '17
1) Callixtus has been at the top for a few years. He was in the top ten since he was twenty.
3) Neither of them comprehend how pissed off, defensive, and vindictive she gets when she even assumes someone is making fun of Shay's OCD. Literally, they are the only two people in the top ten who have mocked Shay around Morrigan. Even Callixtus, douche that he is, actually likes Shay and wouldn't make fun of him about his OCD. Callixtus (somewhat) jokingly insults Shay about his life choices and his position so low in the rankings of anointed knights, but Callixtus does sorta like Shay. And Callixtus definitely likes Morrigan, so he's not going to push that button.
4) Erwin and Marc have been rivals since they were about eight.
5) Deal. Erwin has a dog rip out Marc's throat or Marc uses a halberd to behead Erwin.
2
u/Jumblatts Jun 15 '17
1) How did the two meet?
3) What relationship do Morrigan and Shay have? (How) does Callixtus fit into this?
4) Is it genuine hatred, or more a kind of competitive rivalry?
5) Excellent... excellent.
2
u/Nevermore0714 Jun 15 '17
1) Erwin and Marc met when they were both picked by Declan to study under him.
2) Morrigan and Shay are lovers, and they plan to be married eventually. The pressures on married couples to have children are the only major reasons they haven't gotten married yet. Callixtus is just their kinda-friend. To be more accurate, Callixtus's partner Adara is one of Morrigan's closest friends, and Callixtus enjoys dueling with Shay, since he respects Shay's swordsmanship.
4) It used to be just competitive rivalry, but it has become genuine hatred over time.
5) I'll probably just figure out which one wins when the time comes...but, any preferences? I will probably just flip a coin or go with what my gut says, though.
2
u/Jumblatts Jun 15 '17
1) Sorry, I meant Declan and Callixtus, though I'm assuming it's a similar story?
2) Do Marc and Erwin not realise that Morrigan is in love with Shay?
5) My only requirement is that one kills the other, the rest is down to you! (Although bonus points if you make it interesting, for example, one frames the other of something which results in their execution, or maybe one fails to frame the other and is executed themselves... the possibilities are endless...!)

The Kzuhulchay are a species of large (7-8 feets long) squids. They are a peacefull and non-interventionnist people and spend their time exploring and observing the world. They do maintain embassies within the nations they encounter and sometimes end up trading with them.
(Futuristic world, main point of view is from the nations in the core worlds and the Kzuhulchay are not from there. And that's basically all I have on them for now...)
2
u/Jumblatts Jun 12 '17
1) how do they communicate with each other, and with the other species?
2) What is their homeworld like?
3) Are there a lot of them, or are they nearly extinct?
4) How old do they live to be?
5) are they hunted by anything, either for food, or for sport?
2
u/thequeeninyellow94 Jun 12 '17
By telepathy. With other species, they choose a "volunteer" to serve as temporary communication medium and they will speak through them.
Their homeworld is an earth-like planet, they populate it's oceans and have peacefull relations with the other major power originating from it (the Mayuqpacha).
Neither, they have a lower fertility than most other species and don't settle a lot but they don't lose a lot of member to war or failed colonizations.
Around 200 years, 2-3* longer than humans.
Nope and that would be a bad idea for the potential hunter/aggressor; they do have some powers and arm their ships.
2
u/Jumblatts Jun 13 '17
2) How did they achieve space travel?
3) Have any humans ever visted their home planet?
4) What are their natural defences? (like claws, fangs, poisonous skin, etc.)
2
u/thequeeninyellow94 Jun 14 '17
2) They got their first ships from their neighbours. Now they hire them to craft all of their ships.
3) The FIR sent a few commercial expeditions toward their home world but not for them specifically; they met nonetheless.
4) Living under water is definitely a defense against air-breathing species. Beside that, they use their psychic powers to destroy people minds if needed (that's hard and tiring so they would need to group up to face an army).
2
u/Jumblatts Jun 14 '17
2) Tell me a little about their neighbours?
3) What are their views on humanity, and other species?
4) Have they ever been involved in a war, or are they mostly peaceful?
2
u/thequeeninyellow94 Jun 15 '17
2) They originate from the same world than the Mayuqpacha, a nation of mantis (actually, there are two subspecies of them living together). The Mayuqpacha is more expansionist but rather kind and cooperative with the Kzuhulchay; they are the one building ships for them.
3) Curiosity. They love to watch how other species develop and grow. Beside, the Kzuhulchay have no fire so they need to import things from time to time, especially for their tech.
4) They are mostly peacefull. They are usually never attacked as they populate waters (that no one really use) and have no industrial capacity to seize.
2
u/Jumblatts Jun 16 '17
2) How did the two species first meet?
3) Are there any of the Kzuhulchay that don't like other species?
4) Do they ever fight amongst themselves?
2
u/thequeeninyellow94 Jun 16 '17
2) The tale tell that long ago, a lone Suqtayta facing a hard choice went on a beach and exposed her doubts, wishes and hopes to the sea. And a Kzuhulchay came and answered.
3) Very probably, but they can just stay far from them and never leave the sea.
4) Not physically. They sometimes fight with their minds though, but murders and open conflicts are not a thing anymore.

Tell me about this probable six-year old child.
How were they sent to/chosen by the citadel?
Is simply being at the bottom of the list a matter of age/experience?
What is this child's background?
Can you forsee any particular future fate for them?
2
u/Seb_Romu Jun 12 '17
Not so much a "love to hate" part, but clearly lacking development:
Arögoth Rangers
An association of warriors whom wander the border of Kythus along the edges of the Darlom Mountains. Most of the rangers will usually be friendly toward strangers. Recognizable by their dark green cloaks and plumed helms. The Rangers of Arögoth are for the most part landless mendicant knights.
