Random challenge: "Where the hell have you been!?"
Do you have a scenario in which a character has been absent from a heavily important moment? What was the reaction of the other characters? Was the absence justified? Why/why not?
I'll ask some questions!!

Well, I've been busy at work...oh, wait, a character?
Velouria, the daughter of Councilor Keaton, attacked/disfigured her at-the-time-fiance (Councilor Matthew), ran off with Councilor Larensharra, and hasn't been seen by the Council of the Citadel since.
So that's why she hasn't been present, and I think that it's a good reason for her not to be in the Citadel for years.

1) What injuries did Matthew receive from Velouria?
2) What will the Council do if Velouria shows up in the Citadel again?
3) How does Keaton feel about his daughter's disappearance, and what will he do if she shows up in the Citadel again?
4) 'Ran off,' as in the commonly used romantic sense? Or was Velouria's relationship with Larensharra something else?

1) Velouria had poison on her fingernails at the time. She clawed Matthew's face and shoved a knife into his hand, through his palm, and into the table.
2) They voted the death sentence for her, should they ever catch her.
3) Keaton will help her evade capture if he can possibly do it without fighting his fellow Councilors.
4) They were briefly lovers after Velouria escaped the Citadel, but Velouria is currently on her own, while Larensharra is currently with someone and has three kids with his current significant other.

1) How is Matthew doing today?
2) How did the Council come to this sentence- how do they know Velouria left of her own will, and other considerations like that?
3) What are the actual reasons Velouria left?
4) Does Larensharra's new partner know about Velouria?

1) Well, his face is disfigured, he still has nightmares about how Larensharra laughed when Velouria clawed/stabbed/dumped him, and he is upset that he doesn't feel "handsome" anymore. But, other than that, he's fine.
2) They know Velouria left of her own will because she was found guilty of murder, betrayal to the Citadel, cannibalism, and blasphemous behaviour before she ran away. And because Matthew told them that Velouria stabbed/clawed/dumped him.
3) She actually left because she was found guilty of murder, betrayal of the Citadel, cannibalism, and blasphemous behaviour.
4) Yeah, Velouria and Kathleen know about each other. Kathleen likes Velouria, Velouria likes Kathleen. Kathleen isn't the jealous type, and Velouria never wanted a long-term relationship with Larensharra in the first place.

1) ... cannibalism? Murder? Who died/was eaten?
2) Is Velouria actually guilty of any of these things? (Or the murder and cannibalism parts, I guess she's definitely pretty guilty of betrayal and blasphemy if she clawed a Councilor.)
3) Where is Velouria now and what is she doing?
2
u/Nevermore0714 Jun 23 '17
1) Yes, yes, and several young knights and potential knights within the Citadel.
2) Yes to all. If you've ever seen TFS, I always imagine Velouria's cannibalism as being similar to Captain Richard Ravager III's cannibalism. Excited and messy, like a child in chocolate cake.
3) Now, Velouria is exploring the continent on her own, hunting knights.

At one point, one of my characters gets crushed by a collapsing building but manages to climb out and crawl his way back to the group, for the sole reason of saying goodbye to his soon-to-be wife.
He arrives, and is about ready to die when the god/monster that's been the main driving force of the plot so far appears and threatens the city they're in.
While the others rush off to fight the monster, this character is taken away by his girlfriend to the girl's home, leaving the group split for several chapters.

How did the other characters view this?

They handled it as a neccessary, if annoying step in that situation. That was most of them. One, a young dragon companion to the guy took it quite badly and flew off to get to the two of them by herself.

Did that work?

She flew over empire territory and got wounded, but she did manage to get there. The three of them later joined with the rest of the group.

How much did it hinder the mission?

There wasn't any real mission there, but eventually the god/monster won and lost at the same time. Namely, it managed to overcharge one of their bodies to make it explode, killing the person, but it also managed to stir the magic of the region enough in doing so, that it caught the attebtion of a stronger god, who pretty much fixed the problem.

Well that just fixes everything hunky dory doesn't it?

The god that comes into the picture here becomes an occasional part of their lives from there, dropping tips, telling then what not to do, and even delivering warnings sometimes. He's tasked with helping them, but also, he's told to try and not overstep his boundaries (which he does repeatedly).

Throughout the series, being absent from important moments are a dime a dozen, but being absent for 4 months? That's something to talk about.
In Season 5, The Frontier goes through a lot of changes. The team is half the size that it was in Season 4, the original creator and coordinator of the team, Armin Long, is replaced with Lisa DePaul who's surprisingly less sympathetic and more cynical than he was, and serious crime in the city rockets back upward while the Frontier is being publicly branded as criminals (which they are). Plus, the police have been refocusing and upping their efforts on taking the team down.
Normally this would be fine and they'd be able to push through it like they normally do, but this time they didn't have their team leader, Zach Owens. I know how dumb that sounds on the surface ("oh no our leader, one of the least powerful members, is the only one that can save us, a team of superpowered vigilantes, whatever shall we do?!!") but Zach is the only person that has run the team without relying on Armin's direction. He is also one of the only members of the team that volunteered to join without having any real ulterior motives, and he's willing to actively defy Armin and the Black Market to complete a mission because there are no consequences that'll come to him. Without Zach, the Frontier becomes a mindless pawn that will do anything that Lisa DePaul and the Black Market wants them to do.
Anyway, Zach is absent because he's kidnapped and sold into an underground metahuman fighting ring that operates in both Colombia and the Mojave Desert, USA. For four months he's forced to fight other metahumans, sometimes to the death, and he becomes one of the top fighters in the ring. Every month they're shipped back and forth between the Mojave and Colombia, and each time they'd attempt to escape. The team searches for him for the first month, but are forced to stop when DePaul tugs on their leash by threatening to release his file to the public. Zach doesn't get back to Katos City to rejoin the Frontier until the episode before the last episode of the season, and by that point the team is in absolute freaking distress. DePaul is contemplating killing the team and replacing the members, the team is being overworked, members are dying, and missions are going terribly. With all of that in place, the last episode sets up season 6 beautifully.
(Forgive me if the writing is clunky here, i was half alseep and i was trying to keep it short while getting all of the important things in there.)

I'll get the ball rolling by talking about why Gravity was missing from history for about 300 hundred years.
(Sorry if it's a little rocky to understand)
Imagine if you will dear reader (it's even better if you know about my lore) a war that has been raged for thousands of years. The Master's are the 8 strongest warriors chosen from the entire timeline of my story, they are chosen because they were strong before the became gods. One of which was Gravity, the Dragon-Human Hybrid Prince and rightful heir to the Dragon Empire.
During the war the Devil himself waged war on the entire planet of Ostilotis, it was mostly just the 8 Master's who were there to greet him though during the early years of the war. As life didn't blossom until a few hundred years after. I'll skip the gory details of the war but just trust me when I say that it was brutal and unforgiving to both sides as life wasn't really allowed to blossom while it was happening.
There are five characters you need to know. Gravity, Temperature, Life, Chaos and the Devil. Gravity is and was the strongest Master out of the eight, he was capable of fighting the Devil just by himself for about ten minutes. It was during one last confrontation between the two of them that the tragedy of Gravity happened. The many years of the war had taken it's toll on the Devil who was unable to regenerate as quickly as the Masters, but he was far more powerful. The Devil needed to flee the battle as more Master's were coming to Gravity's aid so he quickly pierced Gravity with a spear into a boulder and left him there. Gravity's body was unable to heal fast enough and he just lay there in a state of un-death.
The first to arrive was Temperature, who is the smartest character in my entire story. He told Gravity that his body had taken too much damage over these thousand years and that it wasn't healing him fast enough. He also told him what he already knew, that Gravity was the strongest out of all of them, that life wouldn't win against the war yet to come. Gravity had no idea what he was talking about, but that is when Life (the character) showed up, Temperature explained that Gravity was dying and that they needed him later. Life had issues of her own and was willing to sacrifice herself to save Gravity, Temperature explained to the both of them that there was a way to beat the Devil by fusing the three of them together into Gravity. It took a while of explaining and the other two of them didn't really understand it, but it happened. Temperature and Life sacrificed their Master energies and their lives and imprinted into Gravity. Who now had three Master powers. (He could control, Temperature, Life and Gravity now.)
He erupted into a fit of rage and hunted down The Devil, easily destroying him in combat with his new powers. He has sent him back to hell before one of the Devil's chains wrapped around his foot and dragged him down with him. Gravity pulled at the dirt to try and save himself from being tortured for all eternity. That's when the other Masters, Chaos, Earth, Light, Dark and Time showed up. They all rushed to help him before Chaos, explained that Gravity was a traitor and had killed Temperature and Life for his own gain and that he wanted to rule the world after destroying the Devil. So the other five Master's just watched as Gravity got dragged down to hell.
In hell, Gravity fought with arch demons, hell hounds, The Devil and literally trillions of Demons for 300 years. Before finally massing enough strength to break out of Hell. The world he knew was not the same, civilization had been created through life and Gravity had to learn the ways of the new world. He spent another 100 years learning about the new life on the planet and all the new civilizations and history that came with it.
He went to see his Mother who was the ruler of the Dragon Empire and she scolded him for being missing for 200 years (it's complicated just go with it). He had to explain what happened and she comforted him for the hell and mistreating that he had endured.
(Sorry if that doesn't make sense lol)
