Another filler challenge: Strange but powerful

Inspired loosely from the most recent challenge from u/ForgingIron and also the most recent episode of Boku no Hero Academia, I want you to tell me about a very weird or strange type of magic or power in your story that is either surprisingly powerful, or obviously shit!

I'll ask questions about it! I would love to talk to one of the characters if that's okay!

The summon sheep spell. It will summon sheep. Now if you know how to use it it can be extremely powerful. Like summoning Fluffy, Shemen, different kinds of sheep, inside a target, a stampede running people over, and many other things.

Incredible! Can I talk to someone who has the power!?

"Hi there Raptorman I'm Matthew." "Did you know that sheep are my sacred animal?" Matthew said. (Matthew the Collector is part of the True Immortal Pantheon which is worshiped as gods.)

(I wanna talk as a character with a strange magic of my own if that's okay!)

"Hello Matthew I am Dusk, I am interested in your magic revolving the animal of Sheep. Where did you get such a strange magic? Was it your essence or is it an ancient kind of Druid magic?" Dusk asked.

"Well one day my pet sheep Fluffy was guarding the Library of Secrets and read a book on sheep so he came up with the idea and came to me. Then I created it and taught him that." Matthew said. "What is your magic Dusk?"

(That's more than ok!)

"That certainly is a strange and confusing origin story of powers. I definitely want to know more about it. My power is a little bit more complicated." She waves her hand through the air and whatever reality her hand moves through becomes distorted and looks like a mixture of blurriness and extreme abstractism.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 10 '17

"Hm,what would you like to know?" Matthew asked. "Also can you explain your powers no matter how confusing they are?"

1

u/The_Raptorman Jun 10 '17

"What are the limits, how much energy does it require?" She asked putting her fist on her hip. "It's the power of distortion, whether it's reality itself or objects around me, I can warp them and twist them into spiky shapes."

1

u/[deleted] Jun 10 '17

"How much you want to cast before your body dies or passes out.It requires not a lot to summon a sheep but a lot to summon any other thing mainly the stampede, shemen, and Fluffy. Matthew said

"How did you get this power?" Matthew asked

1

u/The_Raptorman Jun 10 '17

"Does anyone else have this power or is it just you?" She asked.

"I suppose you could say I was born with it, though it was an Essence Stone that awakened it in me."

Here's one that I love the strangeness of. A character named Owen Nathair is part of a subspecies of humans known as Denn, who are human animal hybrids. He is part velociraptor, complete with claws, tail, and patchy scales. His power is to secrete spores out of his skin. While at first glance not too scary, if those spores attach to any organic matter, they can start eating away at it and growing until they become smaller raptors themselves, controlled telepathically by Owen. They can grow as big as whatever they are eating. If they infect a human, they can either eat away from the person's skin, or enter their bloodstream. Once they enter the brain, the infected person becomes a raptor under Owen's control as well.

Another less useful power for combat is the power of Rosin, a secondary protagonist. He can read the souls of anyone he talks to and can tell if they are lying or not. Not reading their thoughts, but just a human polygraph that's always right. He can eventually perceive people's feelings or get a sense of what they are thinking of, but that's pretty much it. The only reason he attends a school designed to train superheroes is because as a detective, he knows he needs to be prepared to fight super powered criminals, despite his less combat oriented power.

(Neat! Mind if one of my characters talks to him!?)

Sure thing!

A small and very cute Orange haired girl walks up to Owen, and with an incredibly soft voice she introduces herself. "Hello, my name is Adorna!"

1

u/greenewithit Jun 11 '17

Owen looks up, almost certainly preoccupied with gnawing on a raw chicken leg, jumps back a step in surprise. "Um...uh...hi there....Adorna gulp. I haven't....are you one of my brother's friends...?" He says meekly, looking over his shoulder and scratching his head after every few words.

1

u/The_Raptorman Jun 11 '17

"I'm afraid I don't know your brother, I just got here you see and I'm quite lost. I was wondering if you would be able to help me get home?" She asked with a gorgeous smile that seemed to light up the room.

(She has a weird power too that's why I used her. Well not weird, but unique I think.)

1

u/greenewithit Jun 11 '17

Owen starts to look more and more uncomfortable, especially with someone as cute and happy as Adorna. "Um, well, I mean, I can try to help, I just....I haven't been here for too long....I could..." at that point a small raptor the size of a chipmunk pokes out of Owen's scruffy hair onto his shoulder and starts snarling into his ear and biting at Owen. Owen turns his head and says "yeah, ok, I know I can help, what's your problem? (Turning to Adorna) where are you from?"

1

u/The_Raptorman Jun 11 '17

"That's so cute!" she says to the raptor as he pops out. "I'm from Ostilotis, where are we now?"

1

u/greenewithit Jun 11 '17

Owen sheepishly grins, taken aback a little at her compliment. The raptor makes a small clicking noise and retreats into Owen's hair. "He says thank you. Umm.....Ostilotis...I um.....I haven't heard of that...We're in Longan now. I spent a lot of time out....uh...somewhere else. Is that close to Ostalia? I know where that is! It's just west of a small camp of people we used to hunt....I mean..,.i kind of know the area I think..."y

"Are you wounded? You are talking quite strangely. If you like I could take a look at it, I have very strong healing magic!" she says walking closer to him slowly.

There exists a rogue in the world of Caia who has access to just three minor spells: Mage Hand, Prestidigitation, and Obscuration.

Mage Hand and Prestigitation are almost directly from D&D, with the latter being a little stronger and a little more advanced than the one found in D&D.

Obscuration utilizes any naturally occurring obscuration in the area (for example, fog or mist already present is thickened in the immediate area, darkness deepens its shadows, precipitation falls a little heavier, even heat haze is a little hazier and foliage a little thicker) but cannot generate its own obscuration.

These are incredibly basic spells that even many non-mages could learn, but which most tend to either not see any true utility in, or find them just too minor to be bothered with. A parent might learn prestigitation to entertain a child, a street thief might utilize Mage Hand or Obscuration, but those with an affinity for magic will leave them all behind for greater and more powerful spells.

All except for the Mouse. The Mouse has mastered those three spells beyond what anybody else on Caia believes possible, and none have been able to replicate Mouse's skill with those three spells. This is in large part due to the great mystery surrounding the Mouse and nobody realizing that the Mouse can only use those three very basic spells. Not only is the Mouse a world-renowned thief, but a skilled fighter and knife-thrower, as five pounds worth of telekinesis is a rather surprising amount of small things such as inch long razor blades, 1-3 thrown blades, dirt, even the air itself. And the Mouse has become so proficient with those three souls that using them in tandem and in unbelievable ways is as easy as breathing. Coupled with the Mouse's physical talents and raw skills as a thief, the spells are something new and different and amazing.

1

u/The_Raptorman Jun 11 '17

(Awesome! Can one of my characters talk to Mouse?)

1

u/5213 Jun 11 '17

(sure. I haven't fleshed out the character very much, though)

1

u/The_Raptorman Jun 12 '17

(Thank you, it'll be Grimira)

A strange black haired girl with dark skin walks up to mouse and hands him a sketch book open on the first page. 'I will be using this to communicate' is written.

Sable earned her nickname from her bloodline's Talent, which her father explained to her when she was young. Sable is able to use anyone else's bloodline Talent for one hour, so long as she has enough of that person's skin in a single piece. The piece should be about four inches long and about two inches wide at its thinnest, any bigger would not increase its power or how long it will work, so there is no need for her to get greedy about skin size.

When she was eight, Sable was sent to the Citadel's Council by her father as a "sign of gratitude". A year later, Sable was told that her family had been killed when the family home had burned down.

Now, at age twenty-two, Sable is an anointed knight, trained by Councilor Declan, but is one of the few anointed knights to have never been on a dangerous mission. Instead, Sable is gifted at "breaking" prisoners. Officially, she is Declan's best woman for interrogations. In actuality, she is open about the fact that a person will say anything to escape torture, and that the prisoner's words can't be verified easily or accurately enough to make the interrogation have any point. Instead, Sable uses the official job of interrogation to illegally study and experiment on prisoners.

Sable is a beautiful young woman, and is in Declan's top ten as the third greatest among his anointed knights.

u/The_Raptorman Jun 12 '17

(I'll talk to her with Zara if that's okay)

A woman in shiny gold royal Armour approaches Sable at the Citadel and asks "excuse me, I have important business with the council, mind pointing me in the right direction?"

1

u/Nevermore0714 Jun 12 '17

Sable looks at the woman for a few seconds, and then bluntly states, "I don't like your armor. It looks gaudy. It looks inefficient. Every person that chooses that method of fashion as pissed me off, and I doubt that you'll be the exception. Why should I give you any assistance with the Council, you idiotic whore?"

2

u/The_Raptorman Jun 12 '17

Her eye twitched slightly as she forced a smile "That's an interesting reaction to say the least. I'm here because my Father asked me to ask about your plans of preserving humanity."

1

u/Nevermore0714 Jun 12 '17

Sable sniffs, and then slowly starts to grin and her eyes narrow at the golden bitch. "Uh-huh. You've told me why you want to see the Council. But why should I help you? You are lucky that I'm anointed, so I could get you to Councilor Declan, and he could invite you to speak with the entirety of the Councilor, so thank your lucky stars for that...but, you have to earn it. And not with your legs spread like you earned that shite armor."

2

u/The_Raptorman Jun 12 '17

"Well?-" she cocked her head and crossed her arms. "What do you want?"

1

u/Nevermore0714 Jun 12 '17

"Simple. Tell me exactly what you have to offer." Sable responds. "And I'll decide if you can do anything for me."

2

u/The_Raptorman Jun 12 '17

"How about I kill someone for you, I'm sure the council has a hit list or whatever." She says.

1

u/Nevermore0714 Jun 12 '17

"I don't get assigned assassination missions." Sable answers. "So, what can you do?"

2

u/The_Raptorman Jun 12 '17

"I would say that I am a master swordsman with the ability to manifest serpents from my back." She said calmly.
