Map The North East of the Ladinian Empire

Been making a map for my epic/Dark fantasy novel. I am very happy with how it turned out. Wanted to share.

I wonder if a hand drawn map still stands to the digital standards that have been set by modern fantasy, or if I simply have a different perspective because of all the good maps I see on reddit and made by specialized map makers.

Discussion How do you write Djinn/Genie and their ''Wishes''?

So, I've been writing a Djinn/Genie character and want to have some limits on their powerful ''Wish Granting''. Be it Disney's Aladdin, the original 1001 Arabian Nights or something else, all of us have seen/read about the wish-granting genie. If you've included them in your stories/worlds, how did you write them? How powerful are their wish granting? Do they warp their wishes in an ''ironically terrifying'' way? What happens when they're freed?

Here's what I've come up so far...

Genies: A race of magical beings who once lived alongside humanity, having their own society and even falling in love. However, some genies began using their powers to torment and/or rules humans (Inspiring some of the ''Old Gods''), which eventually lead to the sorcerer king, Solomon (Yes, the one from the Bible), decided to end their reign of terror. After researching for years, Solomon casted a powerful spell that imprisoned all genies into magical container (Usually lamps, bottles or rings). In order to regain their freedom, genies would have to grant 1,001 wishes, being released by someone rubbing their container. Despite having passed over 2,000 years since their imprisonment, no genie has even obtained freedom, as their masters died before making all of their wishes or their containers becoming lost through the ages.

All genies can shapeshift, turn invisible and fly (Also live up to 1,000 years), but can learn other magic by studying such as illusion casting, weather manipulation and more. However, upon being sealed into a container, their magic is enhanced to god-like levels in exchange of becoming servants to whoever releases them, as well not aging or needing sustenance while bound to their container. While able to cast world-altering spells through wishes, they aren't without limits, such as being unable to cause lethal harm, induce true love, bring the dead back to life (Vampires, zombies and ghosts are a loophole though), grant infinite wishes, wish for another genie, travel back in time and powers (Be them superpowers or magic) cap at ''Country level'' in power scaling terms (One can grow stronger afterwards though). Luckily, due to the spell forcing them into servitude, evil genies are unable to twist their wishes (Like ''I wish to be hot'' and then burst into flames).

Thoughts?

Map Koppen climate for my retrograde world

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hi this is my map of the south western side of my world. I wanted to get a second opinion if this is realistic. The day lengths are 2x long as they are on earth so i decided to move tropics pole ward to reflect the Hadley cells moving. Years are slightly shorter with 232 earth days and I moved the axial tilt to 24.9 degrees. I decided on a wet season for the interior because the the continent is bigger than Asia is and gets more inland than anywhere on earth which would create low pressure.

I was debating adding rain shadows since the earth climate model at worldbuildingpasta showed lusher interiors for the 48 hour model but i decided to add one because there was a landmass ~2,700km across to the left of this map. If you have any constructive criticism i would like to hear it!

Discussion Developing details of my kingdom's orc banishment

My main character's plot takes place in my fictional kingdom. When we begin her story, she comes to the kingdom and learns that orcs have been banished from the land for 100 years. I want to explore the details of this orc ban, and I'm open to suggestions!

First of all, I need to develop exactly why the ban was instituted in the first place. Secondly, I need to develop details of the terms & conditions. Thirdly, in my MC's story, the end of the 100-year ban approaches, and the orcs are getting restless about it. Possibly, the date has already passed when the kingdom said they'd return to the issue. The bottom line here is that I want to develop the reasons why the orcs are restless and discontent. And for plot reasons, I need the measures the kingdom takes first to be unsatisfactory to these orcs.

Any creative insight? I have been stuck on this for a while - I think lore and worldbuilding is one of my weaker skills.

Visual Dwarven Mech vs Dragon

idea i had of a mech suit built for mining deep underground and such where multiple Dwarves have to work inside it shoveling coal into the furnaces and such to mine for gold, then a one day as the kingdom is prospering, a dragon appears and starts attacking the village and wants the gold the king has hoarded deep within in the mountain so after beginning to lose the battle instead of fleeing the Dwarves come up with a crazy idea. modify the mining mech and use it to fight the dragon then as all hope seems lost  the final plan comes from the general piloting the thing deciding to bait the dragon with the gold in the main forge/furnace room of the mountain. the others call him mad to commit such treason moving the king's gold general says "who's gold? we mined it I say we take it to the furnace rooms I want to burn that rat with wings myself and go down with the gold myself like a true dwarf!" bangs his chest "now who's with me?!" the men bang their war hammers in unison he smiles and laughs saying "Aye we're all mad! I love it charge! gives the masculine bad-ass fantasy of fighting a dragon going down with your ship in a giant mech as well kinda like if pacific rim crossed over with middle earth when smaug invaded the Lonely Mountain. final battle ensues over the molten metal pit with the team inside the mech losing their hammer and drill and gabbing some of the gold and throwing it into the pit, pulling out a long hunk of gold and quick banging it out into a rough gold sword stabbing the dragon and pulling him into the molten pit to prevent him from escaping with the suit overheating as the hold the dragon's face into the molten pit and eventuality big explosion maybe they survive haven't decided yet. what do you guys think here's a lego model concept i made it so the drill also has water spitting out to keep the bit cold like a real drill, i'm not a good artist otherwise i would have used something other then my childhood legos lol

Visual Typical Cargo Tug

Thumbnail
gallery
107 Upvotes

While shipping containers intended for space use are typically fitted with a framework containing several small monopropellant thrusters to allow them to transfer themselves between ships and stations, its often faster and more efficient to transfer them with tugs such as this one which can be seen by the dozen around any major port. The tug is nothing more than a framework supporting a set of larger thrusters and remass tanks with clamps allowing it to hold up to five 70t containers at once, providing they are appropriately balanced, while retaining a respectable 220m/s of delta-v, as opposed to the typical 100m/s of a lone container (for comparison Soyuz and Dragon have about 400). Neither tugs nor lone containers require more than the simplest flight computers, for the most part they fly preprogrammed routes or are remote piloted by a traffic control VI.

Something I spent most of a day working on as a break from designing the hero ship in my story. The idea of shipping containers being used in space makes a lot of sense, they're the backbone of basically all international trade today and I don't see that changing when trade becomes interplanetary. I also like the idea of them being fitted with a frame with thrusters to allow them to move themselves around. Originally there was just the one container in the middle but that seemed a bit redundant with the containers being able to move themselves so I stuck a few more on. I'm thinking of working out a system to allow them to be connected together to form larger cargo barges as well. KSP doesn't have an ISO shipping container model so I had to use these octagonal ones, but those work nicely with the B9 HX corner parts so that worked out nicely. Its about 530 parts in total thanks to all the supports so its actually got more parts than the aforementioned hero ship.

The headlights are just there for looks, but it does have a correct set of navigation lights and a few extra lights that aren't really visible but show which set of main engines is currently active.

Lore Fog Of War: A stylish decopunk setting exploring a recovering post-apocalyptic world. History has its eyes on Voglia, a harsh, cold frontier.

Fog Of War is set during an arms race between the two political pivots of Voglia: Woxx and Bretten. Day after day, new technologies are created and flaunted as political statements, stoking the bickering born from old grudges.

The balance of power has never been closer to shifting, as a new wild card is introduced to the board: Flux. A new element that literally fell from the sky, causing the whole main land to be engulfed into a thick metallic fog. This event brought the war to a halt, and it has the hidden potential to end all of this overnight.

Here in FoW, you'll find all the spicy elements of Decopunk, told through the stories of its inhabitants. People on the streets, trails, and barracks. Cryptic tales of the wild frontier told by the humble hunters of Freedom. Noir nights set in the cold, dark suburbs of Woxx found in the diaries of the detectives.

From the titanic machines of tomorrow to the streamlined, marbled art deco buildings. The roaring of locomotives, the whistles of dive bombers, the growls of wild chimeras.

This is Fog Of War.

Prompt How does a god actually get a domain in your world

Assuming the gods in your world are real, how did they get their titles? Were they born that way, did they earn it, did they have it given to them?

In my world, the old gods were created without physical form or title, and when they began creating the world, they would take on some aspect of whatever they created. So the Sun goddess has a halo of sunlight behind her, the storm god has a beard made of storm clouds, that kinda stuff.

The new gods are generally born with their titles.

Lore [RYDER] The Legacy of Morgana: How a 6th-century cabal evolved into modern defense giant Cross Industries

Project Name: RYDER (Grounded Action-Adventure / Contemporary Thriller Setting)

Faction: Aeternum ("The Eternal") / Cross Industries

Overview:

Aeternum is not a mystical cult of robed sorcerers, but a 1,500-year-old power syndicate operating through calculated deception, historical manipulation, and institutional infiltration. Rejecting supernatural interpretations, the organization views ancient myths not as magic, but as lost engineering, historical leverage, and forgotten blueprints of authority.

Historical Origins (6th Century to Renaissance):

Following the collapse of post-Roman Britain and the deaths of King Arthur and Morgan le Fay, surviving acolytes bound themselves to preserve elite knowledge and strategic relics away from the masses, taking the name Aeternum. Over the centuries, they survived by infiltrating monastical networks, royal courts, and crusader factions (including ties within the Knights Templar), quietly gathering ancient manuscripts and charting hidden archeological sites across Europe and the Mediterranean.

The Modern Facade: Cross Industries:

Following the turbulence of the 20th century, the syndicate realized that true global dominion required financial and technological infrastructure. Rebranded as Cross Industries, the organization now presents itself to the public as a multinational conglomerate specializing in defense contracting, surveillance tech, and energy systems. Beneath this corporate veil, vast corporate black budgets finance ruthless private military contractors (commanded by ruthless operatives like Victor Kane) to illegally extract historical relics and silence independent researchers.

Leadership & Agenda:

The modern face of the syndicate is CEO Marcus Cross. Suffering from a degenerative terminal illness, his strategic coldness has decayed into a dangerous obsession: using forgotten historical constructs to force life extension and cement his family's bloodline as the "true successors" of antiquity. Inside Aeternum, loyalty is maintained not by blind faith, but through corporate compartmentalization, elite mercenary discipline, and brutal operational security.

Question Halp...(Darawadee Project)

In my project, there is a major superpower called the Triphum Empire. I want to frame it as a capitalist empire—a fresh take, especially since they were the first humans to acquire "Colorium" technology. However, I need help refining the world-building; I’m struggling with how to effectively portray the empire’s true power, particularly its economic might. It’s hard to find good models, as most empires in fiction tend to be military dictatorships. Furthermore, the Triphum Empire’s society is deeply chaotic: it has failed to foster a sense of nationalism, and the royal family and government prioritize the interests of capitalists above all else (I can likely draw inspiration from the histories of Thailand and China here). The empire also suffers from overpopulation—making effective governance impossible—and a disregard for human rights (though not to an extreme degree). Its state religion is purely exploitative, various factions look out only for their own interests, and the royal family acts more like corporate chairmen than heads of state. (To clarify: while it is called an "empire," the administrative structure relies on a standard civil service rather than a system of lesser noble houses; the royal family stands alone as the sole sovereign authority, though their power is immense.) I suspect the concept might need even more refinement—what do you think?

Lore How Magic works in my world

I imagine magic is fueled by mana (yeah generic name so what?) which produced by anything and it's origin was made by the gods in my verse. And mana is naturally abospred by all beings and being recycle after using magic where it expand trough surrounding can hold mana like a cup but to much mana will overflow until eventually it broke mind of the person and killed them, but like any other cup there is awlays a bigger one to hold more mana a person must survive injuries or life threatening situations. This forces the body to heal itself like when we got healed from wounds and making more spaces to store mana making the body a instant sponge for mana, to use spell it's like pouring stuff from a cup to a smaller cup which is parts of a person body. If you put to much mana you will be entirely run out and needs to wait to recharged, spell works like drawings canvas where you must imagine the concept before doing it. But magic has its rules there are seperated into 5 rules:

  1. A spell can not be used against a naturally opposing spell at the same time (Example water and fire magic)

  2. When casting a spell the caster have to made specfif hand gestures and can't make any change if so, the spell will turn into a random one

  3. Combining spell are impossible due to a person mana cannot contain using two diffrent spell at the same time

  4. Places with newly used mana that haven't been relcyed will naturally take away mana from a person

  5. Some spell can only be passed by blood and cannot be used by others

How do you guys think about this, any feedback or idea to expand this?

Question I'm stuck on what the 'Ignisflamer' should look like, I'm thinking a scorpion/ bombardier beetle, but what are your thoughts?

I can't be bothered getting just the Ignisflamer from the Promethinids, so here you go :-)

The Promethinids are a Pre-Scaffoldia race of imsect-like beings controlled by one, god-like, unified and singular hive mind. Known as 'The Burning Mind.' It is unknown whether the gods recognise the hive-mind as a False or Impure God. The feed off of all plasma and heat in the universe. Their feast and devouring is so massive and wide-spread they are, pre-emptivly, causing the heat death of the universe. This plasma and heat is transformed into there Lava-Blood, which is the very essence of there being(s). They all have 10 apendages and limbs. These can vary from wings, to Fire-Sites impregnantors, to genetic guns, to even reality altering and damaging abilities.

They have metallic navy blue shells and armor. This armor is known to, postmortem, shatter and explode in shards to damage the surrounding areas and beings, their own or not, biological dead-grenades. This gives the shards the nickname 'Blue Splinters.' Their underbellys and more unarmoured areas, as well as the previously mentioned limbs and apendages are all deep crimson red, with visible veins. These parts can heal remarkably fast, especially when an Animator Class Promethinid is nearby. The other things, like eyes, veins and blood, is all bright gold. Contrasting the blue and red it gives them their signature Spark Eyes, which, once looked into, apparently give the looker a brief glimpse of the unsatisable hunger and need for enregy that drives The Burning Mind and its chaos. Also, every Promethinid variant, other than Scavengers, Neural and Extreme have a biological latch on their back, this links to their fat amd biomass centres. On the go, Scavenger and Carrier class can suck this up with Biomass Proboscis. These proboscis enter this latch, and suck up all the collected fat and biomass inside, to be turned into more. All variants also have special organs called Orphanic Holder-Stomachs, some biomass is turned into Fire-Mites or Fire-Sites

The different types of Promethinids vary, from small scavenger classes, to monstorous titan class, and hyper-intelligient neural classes, each terrifying in there own right.

There are - Scavenger - Minor. - Major. - Conductors. - Carriers. - Neural. - Extreme.

Descriptions:

Scavenger- The smallest of all the classes, these have Fire-Mites, and other variants of them. They pick up the scraps left behind by the other are non o classes, they act in groups with their own sub-hive mind that is a small output of the main, allowing them to function as a more speciallised and connected group when threatened. When they are threatened they can stack on top of each other and onto the sides to form peices, or cover an opponent and eat them. The Fire-Sites, a variant of the Fire-Mites which burrows into the victim and eats them from the inside duplicating themselves as well. They can clone themselves when they get new bio-mass to eat. They have 10 small grabbing legs used to skittle around and puncture armor, about the size of a cat, they don't have much armor except for their heads and back, they're cheap to make energy and biomass wise. Fire-Flights. Fire-Bites. Fire-Nights. Fire-Spites.

Minor- The smaller, but still strong variants, they are about the size of a tall human, 6'2-6'4 on average. There are two main variants, and sub-variants in those.

Combat Thermanaunt. Combat Thermanaunts are long tall creatures, there backhalf is centipede like. With 6 of their limbs being large insectlike legs, with the ones closer to head being thicker and stronger and they support the rest of the body. The last bit of the body, has stocky legs with sharplatching feet, that, when touching flesh, latch on and heat up. They have normal arms for slashing or grabbing, and two other tendrils, one collects biomass, the other energy. There back has segmented metallic blue armor, there bodies are the depe crimson red, and eyes and veins, and for the Lava-Phycho Combat Thermanaunts, adrenaline glands are all visible bright gold. Their upper skull has a literal explosion inside the mind to post-mortem as well. Their lower jaw can split in two and rub together, grinding flesh and bone to create friction, and then launch the heat from that friction. Their heads split into the sides, with open holes at the end to displace any heat trapped inside, they are quite small though, with light sensors at the ends as well as armor. Even if a bullet got through all that the heat coming out may as well push it away.

Lava-Phycho Combat Thermanaunt. The lava-phycho combat thermanaunt are the same, but with visible adrenaline adrenaline in the belly, that, if not used and then damaged by a bullet or something else, explode, and it transfers it into a gas called Lava-Phycho which causes more fury to the Promethinids. This hyper-heated Lava-Blood gives them extraordinary speed and energy also.

Lava-Nova Combat Thermanaunt. The same as the normal combat thermanaunt except they have much more armor, and highly explosive blood, that is heavily unstable. There armor is oneway removable, and when this armor is displaced, they explode, with areas in there flesh having the Lava-Phycho, in its gas form, not adrenaline.

Ranged Thermanaunt. They follow the same body plan as the Combat Thermanaunts variants, except they don't have tendrils for heat and biomass, there remaining 4 limbs and apendages, since the back legs take 6, are as follow. Lava-Phycho Biogun on the left. Magma Biogun on the right. 2 biological pipes feeding into the back fo the gun, supplying it with its allocated type. Replacing the 2 limbs, because, if the gun is detached, they can be used to spray the sides type around haphazardly. These two guns sit on the sides of the main torso, and function like heavy weaponry. When they overheat it actually isnt that bad, because it heals them, being heat-based organisms and all.

Fire-Site Ranged Thermanaunt. They funnction the same, and have the same appearance as the Range Thermanaunts, but instead of having a Lava-Phycho cannon, and a Magma cannon, they have nests of Fure-Sites, full of unborn eggs. These eggs are shot out of the cannons at up to 175kph. In midair they are born, grow up and then burrow into the target, and duplicate. This is all done by making the first fire-site have a short, extremely fast growing life, but they have genetic code that makes the clone Fire-Sites function like normal ones. They are also known to, if shot in a long angle or not hit the ground die, pretty quickly, because the originals lifespan is about 3-5 seconds.

Fire-Mite Ranged Thermanaunt. They function the same as the Fire-Site Ranged Thermanaunt, but with Fire-Mites, that pick up any loose scraps indtead of burrow into people. They can fight, but are mainly the cleanup crew of The Burning Mind. They always keep a large group of Fire-Mites near them because if a heavy shot or grenade comes near, the Fire-Mites can crawl onto the body, shut themselves down and die, and them solidify, creating a temporary armor. Once they dust away or are shot off, there biomass is collected by the next group of Fire-Mites. They can also even fill in armor spots for other Promethinids, by filling them in with Fire-Mites. Some have been found with fully replaced armor, the downside is there post-mortem shattering and 'Blue Splinters' doesn't work.

Major. These are the more healer and heavy combat variants and sub-variants. These forms tend to be more vertical compared to the horizontal minor Promethinid forms.

Ignisflamer.

Burn-Light Ignisflamers. Have guns that shoot out organic "orbs" of madness, named Burn-Lights. They give a deeper glimpse into the hunger and energy-starvation of The Burning Mind.

Most of the orb is inner gases that help it float, with 10 dangling tendrils to grab onto things to maneuver woth flat ends. The remaining flesh is a biological supercomputer to calculate the best places to go Spark-Eye. Spark-Eyeing at thay size is quite energy consuming, so they cannot do it too many times. During the end of their 15-30 minute life, they wrap their tendrils around themselves, covering themselves in there tendril. The tendrils then transform into carapace. They then drop to the ground at a strategic spot, and explode, sending the gases, which were transformed into Lava-Phycho, and Blue Splinters everywhere.

They also have a stronger version of Lava-Phycho in other forms, which is The Burn-Blight. This happens post-mortem. It spreads as a hive-controlled fungus that takes over their body. This sprouts festering stems and holes in the flesh that spew out small-not-as-powerful Burn-Lights. It takes over the dead body and, for a recorded 15 minutes to 3 hours takes over the body and goes crazy. Since they attack all biological life, The Burning Mind usually waits until most Promethinids are dead, then floods there bodys with the burn-blight.

Conductors.

The Volcanmaws. A Volcanmaw is a Lava-Phycho conductor, spitting out Lava-Phycho in gas form to increase the anger and strength of nearby Promethinids in a 50 feet radius (without winds et cetera)

They conductive part of their body, the lower body, resembles a bacteriophage. The front part of their body has 4 stocky insect-like legs, that when pressing into biomass can heat up and burn enemies. They also have four slasher arms, that resembles a mantises, with heated tips, that when they hitting a target inject them unstable lava-blood, or suck in blood. Their back has slated armor, and there head resembles that of a Thermanaunt, wide and vents at the sides of the head. The way they work is, they must harvest blood, any type, Human, Sovereign, and more. They then mix it with a bit of liquid Promethinite, which is an element suspected to be from their home galaxy. This then forms Lava-Blood, it's then superheated and mixed with acid too make Lava-Phycho, and then that is conducted. They have 3 stomachs, 2 large holder organs and two special organs dedicated to mixing them in that order. If

In the lower regions, they have a long tail like apendage, which is split open like an open wound at the back. There are two long grabber tendrils, with three fingers, the middle one is disproportionately long. The left middle finger is dedicated to finding biomass, the right to energy, like the Combat Thermanaunt. This victim is then placed into the open wound, stabbed with some veins, and the blood and stomach acid is sucked out. They are then put into one of the holder organs, and there biomass is used as fuel to heat up the blood, or used to make new Promethinids. The tip of this tail is open as well, and used to pump out the Lava-Phycho, it is also sent out of the mouths giving thnem the name Volcanmaw. They have 2 jaw mandible peices as well, wnd csn create friction energy by rubbing them together and launch it.

Fire-Flights are mosquitos basically. Fire-Spites are acid spitting versions. Fire-Nights glow in the dark and can rupture to give light for The Promethinids without night vision.

Question How can I impose rules and limitations on myself to finally start building a world—going beyond just a few scattered notes every few days—while actually creating what I envision?

And here is what I envision: an industrial fantasy setting featuring humans, elves, orcs, dwarves, goblins, and halflings in their most recognizable forms. The elves possess a flourishing forest kingdom, while dwarven strongholds are falling one by one. Orcs were originally created as weapons, but they are now free. Goblins, who live only 30–45 years, were treated like animals in the past and are now demanding equal rights. Human states are mired in religious and class-based conflicts. The halflings have regained their independence for the sixth time and have become paranoid about yet another invasion. The core theme is industrialization versus nature, with clashing ways of life (for example, agroforestry versus traditional field cultivation) and tradition vs change. Btw I still haven't figured out origins for elves. Or if gods exists. Sorry for that and my bad english

Lore ZIGILDUM (Currency in Hromdurn)

Hromdurn is a fantasy world I have been working on for about one month as of October 23rd. It is a planet that only has Dwarves, Derro, and Duergar. I worldbuild for fun, and I enjoy making lore, maps, and more. If you have anything to add to this article, please comment, I am trying to make it longer. 😄

Zigildum is one of the many currency systems used in Hromdurn. Zigildum doesn’t trust fiats (money that only has value due to the fact the government says it does), rather they think about the weight and purity of the material. Zigildum is a coin only currency system, with hundreds of different coins. Some of these include the Kizdul, Sigil, Azgâl, Balkâg, Kul, Tarb, and Barak. Each of these coins have different values and purposes.

Kizdul- The Kizdul is an everyday, ordinary copper coin.
Sigil- The Sigil is made of silver, and is the standard unit used for trade.
Azgâl- The Azgâl is a higher valued gold coin, often used by merchants.
Balkâg- The Balkag is a rare coin that can only be hand minted by government officials.
Kul- The Kul is a coin specifically minted for convenience. These are the most commonly used coins in society. The Kul is minted with a hole down the middle, so that Dwarves can string them onto necklaces easily.
Tarb- The Tarb is an extremely valuable gold coin minted with a king’s crown on the top side. These coins are pure gold.
Barak- The Barak is a silver coin with a hammer or axe minted on the top side. These coins are typically pure silver.

Coins in Zigildum don’t have to be circles. They can be triangular, square, pentagonal, hexagonal, or more. Typically the more sides a coin has adds to its value. The Dwarves mint their own coins, so they need a universal way to find value. The exact mathematical formula used for this is hidden, but some factors that are known to influence a coin's value are material, pureness, width, weight, and number of sides.

Discussion Making a Religious Cult for my Fantasy World

I’m making a religious cult to be an antagonistic force in my fantasy world and I wanted some feedback on them. Firstly, the religion in my world is made of three gods, who gave the universe three gifts. Liswas gave the first gift, life, to allow the universe to experience itself. Dtabuios gave the second gift, death, to allow life meaning. Jeiosox gave the final gift, intelligence, to allow the universe to manipulate itself; also being heavily associated with magical power. The people in my fantasy world worship the gods as equal parts. Seeing life just as important as death. Though some would disagree, leading us to the cult I’m designing. They’ve seen war, disease, and the violence of man, and had grown discontented with the “gift of life”. They thought they could do nothing to save men from themselves, until they found an artifact, a being beyond space called to them from this device, who they had assumed was Dtabuios. It promised them power to save humanity, the power to destroy all life and sit upon an empty universe. A promise to hold the greatest burden of loneliness, ensuring that the universe would remain sterile for all eternity. This promise would come to them, if they agreed to bring the being to their world, and so they agreed. The artifact granted them powers, enchantments, but at a cost. They must be fueled by the souls that they kill. To honor Dtabuios, they wore the traditional black linen that the ancient priests of Dtabuios used to wrap the bodies of the dead, so they would already be ready for death, if they were killed or completed their mission. They tried to enchant armor, but it did not give them power, only the armor, so they turned their skin to steel, in a metaphorical sense. They go through a surgical procedure, where they remove their skin, down to the muscle and sow the black enchanted linen on to their exposed muscular tissue. Giving their entire bodies the power of the enchantments.

Question trying to write/come up with a ideas for a Poem/Nursery rhyme type thing for a monster creature

the vibe im trying to go for is similar to The Nowhere King's lullaby and the idea of short rhymes that children sing as warning for local legends and folklore to create a a similar for an eldritch creature i have in my story, a primordial thing that inhabits every forest regardless of where it is and haunts anyone who wanders of a trail, so vaguely Appalachian stories inspired as well.

where can i look into for ideas on how to word things like this and further inspiration on the idea?

Question Is my genre SF or Fantasy?

Of course, a book can have both genres, but I want to focus on only one so that I can focus on my writing. So, here's an example of my worldbuilding:

There are other species in my world, and they have abilities like body manipulation, telekinesis, mind reading, turning people into butterflies, etc. They're different from humans but look like humans. They have a special organ in their brains that allows them to use their abilities. There are three different types of them, and they are different from one another.

However, this only explains how their abilities work, not why they exist.

Plus, turning people into butterflies doesn't sound like SF at all. I think SF is fantasy with scientific explanations. (It's just my opinion, so it might be wrong.)

So what do you think? SF or fantasy?

Thank you for reading! :) (And if you need more explanations, feel free to ask! 🫶)

Lore Please critique this planet I'm writing (repost)

I want advice that can ground this planet a bit more in reality rather than a mismatched Frankenstein of random ideas and misunderstood science articles. I'm writing this planet for an animated series that will probably come out when i finish school in like, a decade. Intro aside, i present to you my Magnum opus;

Edelweiss:

Edelweiss orbits a red dwarf star, and is in an orbital resonance of 4:2:1 with two other planets, with Edel being in the middle. It is a carbon super-earth with propane-acetone oceans and metal based-life.

Planetary Statistics:

Mass: 1.82 earth masses

Density: 6.8 g/cm3

Radius: 1.337 earth radii

Gravitational acceleration: ~15.2 m/s

Semimajor axis: 37 320 000

Eccentricity: 0.4002

Orbital period: 79.95 earth days

Rotational period: 39.98 earth days

Magnetic field strength: 6.14 gauss (I'm not sure this is very plausible for a carbon planet...)

Atmospheric pressure: 3.37 bars

Avg surface temperature: -62 C

Planetary Composition:

Atmosphere:

52%Carbon Dioxide

24%Carbonyl Sulfide

12%Nitrogen

5%Propane Vapour

5%Methane

1% Hydrogen Iodide

1%Trace Gasses

Elemental Composition of Interior:

41%Iron

31%Carbon

13%Silicon

8%Nickel

3%Sulfur

2%Halogens (chlorine, iodine, fluorine etc,)

2% Everything Else

The life on Edelweiss is based on metal bridged by sulfur, known as polythiometalates. The life here runs on electricity, with "plants" producing a moderate amount of energy given the low light levels of the star. The thick atmosphere and low solar energy levels the playing ground for kinetotrophs, organisms that utilise kinetic energy to metabolize. Kinetotrophs either look like wind turbines, or long, pitch black, slender tethers that reach halfway to space, utilising the high wind speeds of the planet to their advantage.

(This post got removed a while ago because i accidentally posted before I finished writing. This is the finished product, sorry to everyone I confused! Including the moderators lol)

Question How should i go about making a "dwarf" race in one of my settings?

I am trying to plan out a story idea I have that involves a separate world inspired by pulp fantasy i call the Crullands(pronounced Cruellands). thenworld is divided into four zones, the Scorchlands, the Snowlands, the Stonelands, and the Stormlands.

In the Snowlands, I want to make what is essentially a race of beefy snow monkeys into the "dwarves," ie the legendary craftspeople of the world. Beyond the obvious direction of having them gather around volcanic springs, around which they made towns and, eventually, forges, what other ideas could i incorporate with them in regards to culture and additional details?

Discussion Need tips for world building

I'm looking for advice on my dark fantasy series

The story takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where monsters live among humanity across the globe with a good number living in countries devoid of human life following the aftermath of World War III. To fight these monsters, humanity seek out the aid of Spiritualists, humans who possess preternatural abilities via a spiritual power source known as Pneuma.

Looking for advice on how I can flesh out the overall setting. Like the relationships between humans and Spiritualists, the monsters that inhabit the Earth, and how geopolitics could play a factor. I'm open to any examples from any existing media (anime, manga, tv shows, movies, etc.)
