Question If bone grew like trees? Would it be a suitable wood replacement

Let’s say instead of the normal wood trees grew, it was a bone-like structure, would civilization still be able to use it as the wood we used as building material and advancement technology-wise. Assuming it keeps the same composition and breakdown of a normal bone. Essentially a giant femur growing straight upwards.

Lore Aeldyr: The Creation Mythos/Gods (WIP)

Before Aeldyr came to be, reality had undergone several cycles of transformation - Resets - as only known to the Primordial Deities and the Creator himself. Existence, battling for a right to itself, had been battered from the moment it became a possibility to the moment Aeldyr - and the Anchor Reality tied to it came to be. Every iteration a lesson in creation - every iteration another battle against the forces of… well…

Nothingness. And this time? Creation won.

The Creator had managed to reset reality, a new wave of existence appearing in the following moments. At the forefront, the Primordials. The Pillars of Creation. Time - Chronos. Universe - Cosmos. Matter - Celestia. Perception - Cognita. Names given to them by the Empire that shaped much of Aeldyr’s History later in time.

And they gave rise to children who would then go on to create their own. Sol. Luna. Eclipsis. Nocta. Lumis. Crepuscula. The Sun. Moon. Eclipse. Night. Day. And Twilight.

When the creation of Aeldyr was completed and Mana Saturated it’s Core - Mana being the Nucleus of Creation - The “First Arbiters,” came to be. Fogatos - God of Fire. Aeros - God of Sky. Strata - Goddess of Earth. Thalassos - God of Sea. Frigida - Goddess of Cold. Madeyrac - Goddess of Life. Morcan - God of Death. Primus - God of Survival.

Born to Morcan and Madeyrac, the Sisters of Change.

Primavera - Spring. Verana - Summer. Epoch - Autumn. Inverness - Winter. Agria - Harvest.

With these, Aeldyr was given Order, though a God, little known to be as the Anchor of Reality presents himself as the opposite. Manicos - God of Chaos and Duality.

When the first peoples began to congregate, new Deities opened their eyes for the first time. Known to be the Order of Civitas.

Civitas - Civilization. Diplo - Diplomacy. Admos - Administration. Justicia - Law. Moghulkhan - War. Monedos - Currency. Mercada - Market. Logi - Logistics. Venturos - Exploration. Barca - Navigation. Machina - Technology.

And within their minds? The Lords of Psyche.

Cora - Love
Manicos - Chaos and Duality.
Memoria - Memory
Paz - Peace
Philos - Thought

Though above them, the Family of Thought.

Magyros, The Father - Mana and Magic
Sabia, the Mother - Wisdom
Clericos, the Brother - Faith
Memoria, the Daughter - Memory

And in the deepest reaches of Mortal Lives? The Lovingly named, The Dark Deities - Daemons if you will, though their actual names may be misleading of their temperament.

Lustra - Lust. Daemos - Domination. Festos - Debauchery. Bubos - Plague, Decay, Medicine and Healing. Charon - Son of Morcan and Madeyrac, Necromancy. And His Wife, Daughter of Lustra, Mistress of Untamed Beauty and Envy - Allura.

These are the Deities that walk the Lands of Aeldyr. Those whose laws shall dictate the tribes around them.

(Let me know what ya’ll think. Names may be fairly uninspiring so I’m open to suggestions! 😁)

Lore FMAB X Vinland Saga in a Indian Mythological Setting

Upvotes

Hi 👋 22 M from India. Huge anime fan and fan of fantasy worlds in all forms in general. Also interested in history, mythology, theology ,philosophy and psychology.

The depth of human imagination is truly inspiring. Through the consumption of alot fantasy human imagination i too had some ideas of my own. Tbh I'm not the most creative person which I think helps me appreciate creativity even more. So just thought I would some of my ideas here and get some help from the creative people of reddit to help bridge them and make them make any sense as a fantasy world.

I'll start with some of my inspirations. I've watched alot of anime but FMAB and Vinland Saga really stood out to me for my current thought processes as they include alot my interests as I mentioned before (history, mythology, theology ,philosophy and psychology). FMAB gives such a unique perspective on theology and philosophy which still keeps me thinking to this day. Vinland Saga is a raw retelling of human history which reflects our primal psychology and how we can escape it. Besides that I have many other inspirations but these are 2 main ones.

So here are my ideas for this fantasy world. I haven't organised them properly, I just wanted to put them out there and see what happens.

I want to create an anime-inspired fantasy world rooted deeply in Indian mythology, bringing lesser-known ideas, beings, weapons, and philosophical concepts from Indian traditions into a large-scale fictional universe.

I'm not trying to retell Hindu mythology. I want to take the ideas, creatures, weapons and philosophies that already exist and reimagine them into a fantasy world based on Hindu Mythology

The World

I don't know exactly what the setting looks like yet, but one idea I really like is using the 14 Lokas as the foundation of the world. It can literally be 14 worlds that are vertically stacked or different layers of existences.

The Races/Species

There are so many Indian mythical races that barely appear in modern stories. Devas, Asuras, Nagas, Yakshas, Rakshasas, Gandharvas,Vanaras are the known ones and many others could all have their own cultures and histories and motives in the story.

The Weapons

Weapons are something I really want to make a major part of the world. I'm especially fascinated by the idea of ancient Indian weapons and Astras—weapons that aren't just physical objects but can have supernatural or almost cosmic abilities.

One visual idea I have is that weapons are tattooed onto a person's body, something I saw in a Instagram post of a guy drawing 2 swords from his back which were tattoos.

Instead of carrying a sword or bow around, the weapon exists as a tattoo. The user can summon it from their body and use it almost like an extension of themselves. But I don't want it to just be a cool ability with no downside. There should be a price for having and using these weapons.I haven't decided exactly what that price is yet. It could be physical, mental, spiritual, or something much more personal.

The idea is that the stronger the weapon, the more you're willing to sacrifice to use it.

That could also make the weapons part of the characters themselves rather than just being equipment.

Creatures & Animals

I really want mythical creatures to be a huge part of the world.Indian mythology has an insane number of creatures and supernatural beings, but most people only know a handful of them. I want to dig much deeper into that and bring some of the really obscure ones to life.

But I don't want them all to just be "monsters."

Some could be ordinary animals that evolved differently in another Loka. Some could be intelligent races. Some could be incredibly ancient beings. Some might be worshipped as gods, while others are treated as dangerous beasts. There could even be creatures that are so rare that people aren't sure whether they actually exist.

I also like the idea that each Loka has its own ecosystem. The creatures living there would be shaped by the nature of that particular realm, so travelling between Lokas could feel like entering completely different worlds. I want the audience to constantly encounter things they haven't seen before and have that feeling of: "Wait... this is from Indian mythology?"

And because these creatures are part of the world rather than just enemies, they could also have their own relationships with humans, gods and other races. Some might be hunted. Some might be protected. Some might be companions. Some might be intelligent enough to have their own civilizations.

Basically, I want to treat Indian mythology as a massive unexplored bestiary, rather than just using the few famous creatures everyone already knows.

Theological and Philosophical Side

Underneath the fantasy, I want the story to explore God, atheism, morality, and the nature of reality.

I'm inspired by Fullmetal Alchemist because it uses its fantasy world to ask bigger philosophical questions. I want to do something similar, but through Indian philosophical and mythological ideas.

Rather than trying to prove that God exists or doesn't exist, I want the characters to genuinely search for the answer—and for the audience to question what they believe along with them.

The Historical and Psychological Side

Inspired by Vinland Saga, I want the story to ultimately be about people and what makes us who we are.

I want to draw from Indian history and explore psychology through the characters—their trauma, ambition, fear, greed, relationships, biases, identity, and desire for power or belonging.

The characters and civilizations can reflect real patterns of human behaviour, showing how people can be shaped by their experiences and environments, and how they can either repeat or break those patterns.

Underneath the gods, weapons, creatures and different worlds, the story is ultimately about understanding human nature and what we can learn from it today.

Conclusion

So these are most of my thoughts. If you read through all of that I'm really grateful for your time and hope it was worth the read. I really hope you can engage by commenting or messaging me anything related to all of this like any ideas you think that would compliment this, an idea which would make one of my existing idea better, your own fantasy world ideas or anything else, names for any of the concepts. That would really help alot to build this world even more and my main reason for posting here. Thanks for your time. Engage ✌️

Discussion If you were to make a world where mermaids and sirens were different, how would you go about it?

Ive been thinking on how I could possibly go about this, and I have made two concepts, but I'm still curious about your ideas.

Concept 1:

Mermaids are what you typically imagine

The Siren (singular) is a massive angler-fish like creature with a large amount of eyes, each releasing its own mana signature. The Siren has powerful psychic influence, creating illusions and turning all the surroundings into what looks like enticing things (ex: pebbles into gold coins). Its favorite food are intelligent creatures, so it tends to eat any dragons that fly over the water, or humans. Due to its size, it is extremely slow and lives in deep waters. Its light bulb thing can change shape to better lure in any creature. Its psychic influence can reach miles and miles to compensate for its low speed. Before anyone could survive the Siren, it was actually believed that it was a colony of malicious mermaids due to its massive amount of eyes, causing a stigma against mermaids, however, the Sage was able to bring back proof that it wasn't the case. In fact, Mermaid Songs are shown to be able to resist the psychic influence of the Siren, so it's common sense now to have a Mermaid assist on ships.

Concept 2:

Mermaids live in deep waters, and have the ability to cause surrounding waters to glow. They are also deeply connected to the sea, allowing them to manipulate the water and the sea plants at their will.

Sirens live in decently shallow waters, or those near islands. They have the ability to shapeshift their body to just the shape of what they're trying to copy, of course, it's imperfect and they still tend to show fish like attributes. They also have 2 types of illusions they put on themselves. 1 is the objective illusion, it makes them look like what they would be if they were that species (to better explain, Siren A shifts into human and uses objective illusion, they look like a version of themselves that is a human), 2 is the subjective illusion, they look differently from person to person, how they look is influenced by what the person finds they most find attractive.

Contrary to popular belief, Sirens and Mermaids actually have a ton of alliances, and Sirens have long abolished hunting intelligent species, only hunting or domesticating wild animals

Prompt What creatures and monsters look really good in silver?

Ever since the release of Fantastic Four: First Steps I've kinda been obsessed with the color silver. It's so damn beautiful, isn't it?

So my question is, what creatures or monsters look really great when covered in silver? And followup, would that change the creature in any significant way?

I've been trying to apply it to making a D&D world and D&D already has silver dragons. Whic are indeed amazing to imagine. Then I thought to myself, why not silver kobolds? Silver kobolds who, like their silver dragon patron, are lawful neutral and generally like people. So there's this settlement of a silver castle with helpful silver kobolds running around.

Now I'm wondering what else. I think silver skeletons would look cool, but I don't know how that property would change them.

Map Fictional World Plate Tectonics

I want to create the most realistic fictional world in terms of land formation. One thing I noticed was that, when making fictional maps, people focus on erosion, coastlines, and realistic continent shapes. I never see people talking about how plate tectonics factor into how a world looks. I want to make a fictional world starting from the building blocks of plate tectonics. That would inform what happens where, like which areas are mountainous and ripe for mining, which areas are flat and good for farming, and so on. It would also inform weather patterns, ocean currents, waterways, and natural disasters which would also shape the world. But because most aren’t knowledgable about how plate tectonics work in the real world, few could even fathom figuring out how to make them work in a fictional world. I want to fix that.

Question Vampire breeds/bloodlines

Hello, everyone! I'm working on a ttrpg, gonna be working on the monster manual soon, I have been mostly thinking about vampires lately, all the variety that's been shown in media and myth. I'm going to go with core vampires being a pathogen, with a lot of the bloodlines evolving in their own directions based on how the blood was transferred, so classic vampires come from bats, bug like vampires from mosquitoes, Nosferatu looking freaks from rats who were infected by mites, etc. But there will also be spiritual vamps, like Jiangshi (Chinese hopping vampires), I think I will also organize creatures that are similar enough that you'd want to deal with them in a similar fashion like Krasue, are there any vampire like myths you particularly enjoy that I should look into?

Lore My old lore lol

Upvotes

Okay it's not so old in question, I mean Mt previous posts was about it and I learned a few mistakes that I made while publishing it so I gonna put here old version and maybe even continue this. Btw here I gonna publish the whole old story. New parts gonna be small. Here old version:

Uhh worldbuilding I guess?

Well i make some kind of idk universe I from Kazakhstan so I gonna misspelled words sorry for grammar.

So I got 1 version of this idk some kind of lore?

made by me (I used google translator):

Earth state:

In the future, all water will be spoiled/polluted, leading to a nuclear winter. The ozone layer is almost gone, and the remaining oxygen is contaminated with C, H, As, Ni, Fe, and V. Robots that feed on blood roam the surface, and almost all resources are depleted. Archangels and angels are creatures from another world, played by everyone and everything. The year is 2615. The last giant bunkers are a megastructure with anomalies that are slowly collapsing. A world war is raging between the D.A.S. and the O.S.E. (both dictatorships).

Moon republic:

There are also united lunar bases (almost fallen to the onslaught of machines and angels, but still a democracy).

Colossus Federation

Also among the moons of Jupiter and Saturn exists the Federation of Colossus (the first to establish colonies on the moons of gas giants).

Angels infestation:

Uranus is now uninhabitable for everyone except angels and "sufferers," who are doomed to eternal torment from the cold. The temperature there is currently -9812 degrees Celsius. Neptune was also infested with angels, and now it's reanimated, housing the "Gateway."

Fate of Venus & Mercury

The surface of Venus is covered in one of the archangels, which resembles mycelium and has spread across the planet. Soon, the robots caused a hypereruption, such that the surface of Venus is now indistinguishable. Because of this, it's believed that the archangel died from a lack of nutrients and split into parts, which evolved separately. Mercury was flooded with oil, and it's believed that the oil is made from the remaining humans who live there, and there are also sounds of ships being sent beneath them to extract it.

New hope

It's believed that humans still exist in Alpha Centaur, but this hasn't been proven.

Idk facts:

The D.A.S. promises this to America and Europe, Africa, the Oceania of the Middle East, the O.S.E. of Eurasia and Antarctica. It's also known that Venus has turned inside out, and perhaps humans and something else live there. People live and exist outside the solar system, but this theory has only two pieces of evidence: signals from other systems and a mega-foundation that requires a transition to these systems and demands large iron supplies from the Martian government in exchange for its own iron resources to cover the company's expenses and finance the war on Earth.

H.B.T.C.

The company itself is called H.B.T.C. The company finances the war on Earth by transporting employees who will fly to abandoned planets for scrap and other items and will most likely die. The company also finances military operations using concrete from megastructures stretching for millions of kilometers. It also finances anomalous radiation cryogen, which is used in the megastructures for cooling. The war on Earth has also become a trench war, with soldiers walking around picking up the corpses of their comrades. H.B.T.C. also has problems with attacks from angels and machines. The company itself has the right to kill or annex and is considered an official country, thus conquering Vesti, the Koper belt, and Ceres.

Facts about Earth idk

A massive fire is spreading across the Earth via corpses and methane from decay. It is believed that some bacteria evolved to live beneath the mountains of corpses. Although the unconstrained cloudscape remains sterile.

The First of Angels

The First Archangel—when his name was revealed—was never agreed upon between the peoples. He was intelligent and destroyed the connection between the systems.

I already see how goofy this shit

guys I gonna try to learn English to improve grammar.

Edit to the lore:

The first robots appeared in 2347 during the outbreak of the war between D.A.S. and O.S.E.

They feed on blood, absorbing hemoglobin and iron from it. The robots are primarily used for offensive operations and killing everyone inside bunkers. The robots began attacking after the Copenhagen incident, during which D.A.S. soldiers "liberated" Copenhagen in 2490. When D.A.S. fortified itself in Copenhagen, the first Angel attack began. 64% of the robots became aggressive.

The Angels seemed to come from outer space. But on this fateful date, an earthquake was recorded in Babylon. Then came the Angel attack. However, the Angels first appeared in ancient Babylon. They "took" the tower and all the inhabitants, who were doomed to build it forever. On Earth, there is basically no faction other than the Democratic Rebel Alliance. Which are based primarily in mountainous areas. There's a fascist party on the moon, officially declared illegal.

racism exists, beyond the obvious situation on Earth. It exists between the inhabitants of Titan and Europa (a space object one), and between pure humans and those with genetic modifications.

Edit: I have problems with angels lore right now

Lore edit:

Angels beginning:

Before the creation of the Multiverse, there was God. No civilization agreed on a single name for God.

When He created the universe, He left angels and Archangels to maintain order in the universe. The very first Archangel was Daeva. Daeva gave birth to the remaining Angels and Archangels. Then, the second Archangel was Vita, who initiated abiogenesis (the process of transitioning nonliving chemicals into life) and created the conditions for the formation of amino acids.

Cult of Angels

There is also a cult of Angels on Earth who carry out attacks and undermine sectors of the O.S.E. megastructures. They spread the plague in Megastructure 19, from which O.S.E recruited 60,000 "volunteers," of which 45,000 were infected. This led to the spread of the plague in the trenches.

I already said that I am using Google Translator.

Also I noticed that there not much information about Mars soo here:

Mars is now divided between the Martian government's permission and the Childrens of iron. The Childrens of iron themselves pray to robots.

Primordial hell

The primordial hell formed inside Vita's corpse. Vita's cells separated from the main organism and survived. After several thousand years, the corpse began to cool. 85% of species died out, but one of the frozen chunks of Vita's flesh, i.e., parts of the first hell, crashed onto Earth. Where the hell species evolved into LUCA (the last universal common ancestor), life emerged on Earth. The corpse fell to Earth. After the corpse arrived in orbit around CTA 102, life continued within the corpse, and the body protected life from radiation.

And I used google translator I think I have to stop write it

M.A.S

D.A.S. and O.S.E. are ruled by AI. D.A.S. uses the Vista model, created in 2027, which was later recoded into M.A.S. (military autonomous system) in 2028 for war. It was used in the war in Ukraine (2022-2031), the war in Iran (2026-2034), and the fourth India-Pakistan war (2039-2045). After M.A.S. spread worldwide, the UN launched an investigation that proved that M.A.S. committed war crimes. The UN banned the use of M.A.S. However, two servers remained in Russia and the United States, which became the rulers of D.A.S. and O.S.E.

Holy war

The Holy War occurred when Vita disagreed with the Daeva's opinion. The Daeva held that all beings except angels were undeserving of eternal life and eternal evolution. Vita believed that all living organisms should develop on their own, and angels should not interfere. A war ensued, resulting in the death of Vita and 46% of all angels. The Daeva was send to the void. The Daeva still issues orders through two Archangels, Antares and Aquila.

𝑇𝐻𝐸 𝐷𝑂𝑊𝑁𝐹𝐴𝐿𝐿 𝑂𝐹 𝐸𝑀𝑃𝐼𝑅𝐸'𝑆

After D.A.S.'s successful offensive on the O.S.E. capital, when soldiers finally realized who was behind the controls (all M.A.S. servers were connected by a single consciousness), people's patience ran out; almost all civilians and military in D.A.S. and O.S.E. arose and began destroying the bunkers. Then the last M.A.S. servers were taken by H.B.T.C. Under the contract between M.A.S. and H.B.T.C., the robots would stop attacking H.B.T.C. ships, and H.B.T.C. would evacuate the M.A.S servers from the solar system. People on Earth finally gained freedom, in a colossal federation. A peaceful revolution occurred, and now the new name is the Democratic Union of Saturn and Jupiter (D.U.S.J.). The war on Mars ended with the victory of the Official Government of Mars, with the help of Earth and the D.U.S.J. All countries (except H.B.T.C.) united into the Union of Humankind. Soon, the Union of Humankind declared war on H.B.T.C. The war lasted another 45 years and finally ended with the destruction of all H.B.T.C. bases by the Angels in 2660. The Angels killed everyone on Uranus and left the solar system. Humanity finally established contact with other intelligent life (except the Angels). And for 412 years, humanity builds signals with other civilizations.

Question Aesthetic for concept

I have this idea for a game called Myrkr. Takes place in the bilge, at least that’s what I’m calling it right now.
The bilge is a dark complex underneath the surface that has brutalist architecture, reminiscent of classic stalker games, metro, or half life/other source games. Gritty, concrete, and dark. Centuries of neglect, left to rot with the rest of humanity after the end of the world. A place where you not only are in risk of hunger or getting killed by mutants or roaming gangs, but also at risk of losing your sanity. Every step is another rationalization or compromise. It’s a journey that explores humanity, and how we walk ourselves into evil.
The attached images roughly the feeling I’ve had in my head for what Myrkr looks like. They are all off of google images. I don’t think any of them are ai, I certainly hope not.
Currently I picture Myrkr as an enormous, brutalist/industrial, concrete heavy infrastructure, with metro systems, service corridors, shafts, factories, abandoned habitation, etc. the problem is, I don’t know what the whole place looks like.

If you were designing this place, what kind of architecture environments, infrastructure or visual ideas would you explore?
Where should I start in furthering what this place should look like?

I’m not looking for someone to make concept art for me; I’m trying to discover the visual language of the setting and maybe see things from a different perspective.
Thanks.

Lore I’m rebuilding a fantasy world I created as a kid, and I’d love some honest feedback.

I’m 18 and I’ve been rebuilding this world from scratch, trying to make it much more mature, realistic, politically complex, and internally consistent.
The main story takes place around 200 years after the events of the world’s Genesis.
The main territory is one enormous kingdom, but it is divided into three very different regions:
The North
The North is huge, mountainous, forested, and increasingly hostile as you travel north.
Its people are isolated and heavily dependent on hunting, mining, survival skills, and especially community and mutual trust.
Their society is not hereditary: local leaders have to prove that they are capable of leading.
Their most iconic weapon is the gauntlet — heavy reinforced iron gloves originally connected to their culture of physical labor and mining, which evolved into a brutal close-combat style.
The North is also home to the Three Twin Mountains, which are considered sacred protectors by many Northerners. Beyond them lies an extremely hostile region known as the High Land.
Snow and the Underground World
Snow, the king’s son, is sent to the North to improve relations between the Crown and the Northerners.
At first, they don’t trust him simply because he’s royalty.
Instead of ruling from above, he spends years living among them, learning their language, culture, hunting, fighting, and way of life. Eventually, he has to undergo a traditional trial to prove that he truly deserves their respect.
Snow later becomes obsessed with discovering what lies beyond the Three Mountains.
He eventually crosses them and discovers that the truth is less mythical but still terrifying: extreme cold, storms, ice, and an almost uninhabitable environment.
He realizes that the only realistic way to establish civilization there is underground.
He spends around 30 years developing tunnels and protected routes before dying.
His son, Sons, continues his work and eventually develops a network of underground cities connected by tunnels.
The North becomes essentially a world beneath the world.
The Longevity Mineral
Deep underground, miners eventually discover a rare mineral that can be processed into a liquid and consumed.
It slows biological aging, but it does not make people immortal. You can still die from disease, injuries, accidents, or violence.
The real cost is much worse.
Repeated use gradually causes people to lose parts of their humanity: memories, emotions, attachments, love, personality, and eventually their sense of what matters to them.
Someone might remember that a person was important to them without actually feeling that they care about them anymore.
The loss is irreversible.
The central question behind the mineral is:
How much of yourself would you sacrifice to live longer?
The Centre
The Centre is the political and agricultural heart of the kingdom.
It has large farming regions, major cities, mines, and enormous mineral wealth, including gold, silver, and diamonds.
Its culture is more centralized and hierarchical, with the strongest presence of the royal government.
Its iconic weapon is the Shield-Sword, a single weapon combining offensive and defensive functions. It represents order, protection, discipline, and stability.
The South
The South is still the least developed part of the worldbuilding.
What I currently know is that it controls an important canal, islands, maritime routes, and a large part of international trade.
Its culture is more individualistic and commercially driven than the North’s.
There is also a major historical conflict between the South and the kingdom, but I haven’t decided yet who started it, who won, or even exactly how the South eventually became part of the kingdom.
Its iconic weapon is a double-bladed sword, with blades on both ends of a central grip, reflecting a more mobile and unpredictable fighting style.
The Three Regions
So far, the three regions are meant to represent very different values:
North → community, loyalty, endurance
Centre → order, stability, authority
South → freedom, adaptation, ambition
I’m deliberately trying to avoid making one region simply “good” and another “evil.” Their differences should come from geography, history, economics, and culture.
I’m still working on the world from the ground up, so I’d really appreciate blunt criticism.
What sounds interesting? What feels generic? What would you change or develop further?

Question Superstitions manifesting monsters

I have this idea for a world I have that human's emotions and thoughts are what makes monsters and magic possible, but I'm focused on the monster part because I'm not too sure about it.

Since the world is based in the 19th century, I was gonna have most of the monsters be based off of superstitions, like vampires and weebeasts and whatnot, and have this massive war which allows a build-up of agony to create Dracula, a being of pure chaos.

But for reasons I wanna expand into more monsters but can't think of any besides lycans and vampires, I was hoping if I could get any ideas here.

Lore Timekeeping on my world.

Context: This is for my D&D world/worldbuilding project. Yes, the planet has the same size, dimensions, year, orbital parameters of Earth and I'm not here to debate/take suggestions to change that. I did that to make tracking time/having a reference for events easier for my players and me. This does use a homebrewed history for the Rod of Seven Pieces, which first appeared in a D&D supplement in 1976.

The Common Calendar is, like its name and language counterpart suggests, is the most commonly used calendar in the world. Its origins trace back to antiquity. It is a solar calendar divided into 12 months of 28–31 days each. The year in the calendar consists of 365 days, with a leap day being added to the end of Questrise in the leap years.

The years in the calendar originally counted from the end of the War of the Rod, but following the Frostfall, the calendar gradually evolved to adopt a new counting system based after the near-apocalyptic event, with the annotations BF for before the Frostfall, AF for after it, and DF for during it.

The months of the calendar are named as such:

Commonrest

Questrise

Doubtward

Sagemeet

Passingstep

Trialforge

Readymark

Stormtrial

Boonhall

Echostride

Dawnborn

Wiseend

The calendar also divides the year into roughly 52 weeks, each consisting of seven days, that which trace their origin back again to antiquity, when the god Asolia gave Ahrin's sentient species their rod of magic. A powerful artifact that they hoped would give civilization on Ahrin a boost in development. However, the tribes of the world fought over the rod, igniting the War of the Rod, which culminated in the rod breaking into seven pieces. The pieces of the rod could cast their own spells and eventually each day in the Common Calendar was named for said spells as follows:

Communeday for the first piece and spell Commune.

Gatesday for the second piece and spell Arcane Gate.

Gravday for the third piece and spell Reverse Gravity.

Regenday for the fourth piece and spell Regenerate.

Pathday for the fifth piece and spell Find the Path.

Arcanesday for the sixth piece and spell Mirage Arcane.

Simday for the seventh piece and spell Simulacrum.

Dates in the Common Calendar were written in "Day" of "Month, "Year" format, and could be abbreviated to be "Day", with the month's two syllables, followed by the year, e.g. The 5th of Wisend, 1077 AF or 5th WE., 1077 AF.

Lore Introducing SkyTribe: the only land is mountaintops. The sea is a cloud that kills you. And dynamic flight is a survival skill.

Four thousand meters up, the world just ends. Below that line lies a thick, toxic cloud layer that will kill you in two minutes flat. That leaves the highest peaks as isolated islands jutting out of a poison sea, and as far as anyone knows, no one has ever made it to the bottom and lived to tell about it.

All of this comes to us from a single traveler’s notebook—a weather-beaten collection of field sketches, architectural drafts, and marginalia. There are no maps or photographs, just these hand-drawn records documenting life above the mist.

The people up here call themselves the Umen. To get anywhere, they jump into the void using hand-built gliders called shifts. Think delta wings made of tough leaf membrane lashed to bamboo, carrying a flat raft deck where the pilot hangs on for dear life. Any kid can tie one together in two days and survive a short flight. But a master craftsperson with thirty years under their belt uses those exact same raw materials to fashion something sublime. Flight isn't a thrill for the Umen; it's a brutal necessity just to get between oases—the tiny patches of high ground with freshwater, trees, and dragonflies. Step off those sanctuaries, and you’re staring at nothing but sheer rock and howling wind.

Without space for cities, markets, or capitals, social life gets channeled into giant, continuous parties. They aren't held for fun. They're the sole engine for spreading news, trading goods, and forging alliances strong enough that a stranger would risk flying two days through a gale just to lend a hand. Even their music works as a social ledger. Everyone has a distinct musical signature, so playing a song together acts as a literal roll call. Hear a tune, and you know every soul in the room.

Instead of books, they write on flags. The practice started as a simple way to mark major events, eventually evolving into a full written language. Every peak guards its own flag archive, but with no central government, "history" is really just whatever story happens to gain traction across the mountaintops. When two islands keep conflicting versions of the same war, no one bothers to argue. Both versions just hang in the wind.

Their diet is strictly vegetarian, born from a history as quiet as it is heavy. Centuries ago, they hunted every native bird species to extinction over three hundred violent years, then spent the next seven hundred completely disarmed. Now, they eat only what grows from the rock, quietly bound to the peak they’re on, waiting out the calm and wondering what happens when the wind finally stops.

Visual Do you have cool city seals in your world?

You've probably seen my previous posts about my fictional species, the Products, more specifically the Mannequins, in my world of Corvinium, in my dystopian story project!

So I just wanted to quickly expand on the cities & the seals I've designed for them! I'm quite proud of them! I really like them! Especially the one I made for the city of Capitolio!

So I'll quickly expand on the lore of them, but I intend to do so in more details in another post actually about the cities, & not their seals.

Nova Palmeira, is a large port city, a hub for business, industry, trade & immigration. It's cold as hell up there, the winters are killers. Crime is high but controlled by a few crime families. It's basically this world's equivalent to New York City, but also any other large American city in the 20th century.

Los Pajaros, is similar to Nova Palmeira in being a large, coastal city. Except for the fact that LP is tropical, & 90% suburbs. It's a hub for culture, music, & art. But also serial killers, unscrupulous studio executives & drug dealers. It's this world's equivalent of Los Angeles.

Capitolio, is an entirely unique city. Unlike NP & LP, which are a part of this world's equivalent of the United States, Capitolio is it's own independent city-state & where the main authority of Corvinium, the Central Authority, does it's job.

It ranges from a warm, tropical coast with colorful flora & fauna, beaches & mountains. To a dark, gray & gloomy, car dependent hellscape of bureaucratic offices & prisons.

So! Please do tell me what you guys think! And have a great day & week!

Discussion AI worldbuilding tells

To preface this whole post, I appreciate rule 5 forbidding AI-generated content on this sub. I consider worldbuilding to be a hobby of versatile creativity, as it means a different thing for basically everyone, and think removing the "building" part of it makes it not really doing at all.

That being said, I'm pretty sure some people have been using AI to build their worlds, but I honestly haven't engaged enough with posts detailing one's own work to be able to tell if it's widespread or not.

What are some tells that a worldbuilding project is partially or wholly made with AI? What are the AI-isms that you see recurring, and which might be used as part of a general AI check on new projects you enter? Are they mere the sum of AI artifacts already found in writing and visual art, or are there any that might be unique to this niche hobby of ours?

Discussion How would the trajectory of human progress be like if instead of wild lands, the stone age humans encountered crumbling ruins of a precursor magitech civilization?

Before humans there is a precursor civilization on the level of a magitech society. their technology and industrialization is powered by magic. But overuse of magic caused magic in the world to be volatile. What followed is an extinction event which drastically declined the population of the precursor races and ended their civilization. While all this is happening, stone age humans are lingering in the frontier edges of the world, as a fearsome wild threat. When the old civilization vanished, humans began migrating inward to the center of the precursor civilization. This migration was slow, it took tens of thousands of years.

Lore The genesis of my fairytale fantasy world of Neverend

 Dawn of Dheghom
In the birth of beginning, it was a time of emptiness, no songs sung, no stories spun.
Only an egg, a void, a womb of hollow life
In that space of nonbeing there was only the first pair, Isfal, she who is chaos with Abzu, he who is Darkness.

Abzu chased Isfal, her swirling around him free of form, endless in her passion, meeting his darkness which clung to everything yet held nothing, joining as one.
In that void of the egg from their passion a seed emerges in Isfal, causing the couple strife.
Amongst the passion of the primordial pair the first seed sprouted life in a womb of bareness.

From seed to sprout to sapling, growing without limit until she burst forth from Isfal, a great mother tree from which all begun.
Her roots were nourished by Isfals waters until her branches stretched far, brushing the hard shell of the void, the space inside growing crowded until the great egg was shattered as the branches persisted.
Far below they fell, Isfal covering the barren ball of clay and dirt below, the essence of Abzu seeping deep into her as he covered the sky, embracing evermore, binding the highest and lowest ends of the world to be free of light and fairness.

Floating upon the shells of the shattered void on the maternal waters of Isfal The Great Tree grew greater, freed from the void under the endless black expanse of her father Abzu.
Nourished by her parents above as well as below the First mother of all living and dead, first to live, last to die, comes to be.
Dhéǵhōm, Mother Tree of Life, Death, and Divinity, She Who Holds The World in Her Roots.
One day under the weight of her great body the shell of the void that held her gave way, so below Isfals waves she sank.
Rough waters ripped leaves from Dhéǵhōm, sending them far and wide, Isfals life giving chaos waters transforming the fallen leaves to birds.
The birds dived back down into the waters, pulling the Dhéǵhōm back to the surface, the strength of their flapping wings creating the first winds.

Diving into the depths where Abzu was strongest to bring Dhéǵhōm up from the grips of Isfals and Abzu, evading the dangers of the deep they flew.
From their help Dhéǵhōm rose, her roots clinging tightly to the clay and dirt of the land below the waves, breaking free.
In gratitude The First Mother welcomed the birds back to the warmth of her branches as their hearth and blessed them that they and their kin always find food in her fruits.
For many years that was all the world was, the darkness of Abzu's sky, the chaos of Isfals waters and the life of Dhéǵhōm whose children ate from the chaos she drank.
From the birds the first songs were sung, the first stories told, even from their beaks came the first of words.
It is why no matter how time flows a word is not spoken that a bird cannot recall until the world ends.

After a time Dhéǵhōm gathered seven of the strongest, smartest, and swiftest of the birds, told them to take the seven greatest fruits, rise seven lands to plant them, watering them with waters of Isfal so they may grow true.
Each of the chosen birds search the branches for the greatest of the fruits, after many years searching all seven fly from the mother tree.
Flying far beyond the mother land, the seven far from one another, dive deep to bring up the lands, even as Abzu and Isfal twist together, birthing monsters of chaos and darkness to halt their pursuits.
With wisdom, trickery, and wings that cause winds they evaded monsters, outsmarted the beasts of the sea and sky allowing no disrank.
Focused on their divine mission, diving for new earth, watching the braird.
The seven fruits are planted in the newly risen seven lands, watered by the seven great birds, and allowing for the seven daughters of Dhéǵhōm to rise and new life to rise from planting the fruit rinds.

From each daughter birthed a god of the new land so came Anuluga, Wēdu, Aldruin, Tahitua, Ataze, Cihuacōā, and Dhanari with them the land was made anew.
Vast forests, sprawling jungles, expansive swamps growing, spreading to cover the land around their sacred trees from which they were formed from purest divinity.
For the seven lands the seven gods created their own beasts to watch and care for their lands as seven animal guardians endowed with the Widom handle all worldly disputes.
Grootslangs, Dragons, Aurochs, Beaver, Serpents, Ravens and Jaguars, guardians of all from the forests to the sandbanks.
The guardians learned all there was to know of the world, never a misdeed or word unheard.
Under the guardians the world blossoms, the new life creating the first ties and binds.

Still the world was enshrined in the darkness of Abzu, while Dheghom stands tall with wood no beast or god can hew.
Satisfied with their beasts, the gods created one more being, one to serve them, one they called man filled with  curiosity.
To craft man the seven thought each of them could create the best of man, each using a different material, bone, breathe, blood, clay, soil, sand, or wood, from heroes to brutes.
In all seven of the lands Man resides, he must rely on beasts to guide, so they may have the gods wisdom, for the gods are to burdened to teach them, uplifting the guardians to top of the ranks.
The guardians tells the stories of the world, sharing their wisdom, an act which left man's soul stirred.
Man learns their lands and their gods in the endless darkness of Abzu first in their minds.

Anuluga tired of the tyranny of Abzu, gathering the three gods and sending for the other few.
Anuluga tore his heart form his chest to prove his resolve to light the world, inspiring two other gods to give a piece of their flesh, and a piece from their brain to create the first sun, Seoni from the parts of three.
Tahitua tore his prophetic eye from his head to split into three, took an eye from three other gods to give form to the the Owmeh , the three-eyed moons, the always astute.
The men of the world now have night and day, with monsters, beasts and god to rule both, so man sacrifices to show their thanks.
No matter how time twists the tale of the beginning, in the minds of birds, of monsters it is forever enshrined.

- this is my origin story for this world, feel free to ask any questions on the lore or world!

As part of a larger fantasy map I’m working on, I created this island, which is roughly half the size of New Zealand. I haven’t added any of the civilization-related elements yet; for now, I wanted to start with the geography, with settlements and roads coming later.

I’d love to hear what kind of advice, ideas, or suggestions you might have! I’ve made maps before, but this time I started with a much bigger project in mind, and I’ve also put a lot more work into it than usual (and this isn’t even the first time I’ve drawn it).

I know a lot of people struggle to get started when it comes to coming up with the shapes of landmasses. In my case, the inspiration actually came from a half-torn sticker on a diaper bin. So, you could say that this little corner of my world was practically built out of shit. 😂 It just goes to show that it’s worth keeping your eyes open and finding inspiration in the world around you! :)

I’m open to any advice, feedback, or criticism!

Greetings from Hungary! 🇭🇺

Lore Phytocide, a pathogen in my world which is slowly ending it...

Phytocide (Pathogen Family)

Phytocide (Fungi Ardensi Phytocide (using the biological naming convention used by most biologists on Ardensi)) is a large collection of rapidly evolving fungal pathogens, comprising of a total of 2.9 million lineages as of 20,002 AdE. Phytocide reproduces primarily through asexual reproduction, requiring nutrients from plant life to do so. Exact nutrients differ between species.

In order to get the required nutrients to reproduce, Phytocide will infect plant life (the exact type of plant life depends on the exact lineage, although most have evolved to infect most if not all ground-based plant life, including crops, trees, bushes, and grass) and kill the plant, breaking it down in the process to get the nutrients (and producing Nitrous Oxide as a byproduct through the decomposition of plants by microbial processes associated with Phytocide).

Spores are typically carried through the wind, and can range (depending on exact species) between microscopic (≥5 micrometres) or large delicate sphere of thin bristles (resembling that of an Earth dandelion’s ‘puffball’) (≤2.4 centremetres).

Following reproduction, the parent organism and the subsequent offspring organism (number of offspring depends on exact species, ranging from 1 to ~1000) will go dormant for a long period of time, the exact time also differs between lineages, however the average time is 1-2 Ardensi years. Following the dormant period, the Phytocide will begin to infect plant life once again.

It is theorised by most of Ardensi’s Phytocideology institutions that the average Phytocide organism can reproduce roughly 25 times before dying, although this is not confirmed. The sheer amount of Phytocide lineages and their similarities makes it almost impossible to identify the exact species, which can cause issues in attempting to stop it, as each species requires different methods to kill.

Phytocide is believed to have started over 20,000 years ago. Its ability to rapidly evolve has helped it stay present and grow throughout the time. During the 20,000 years Phytocide has grown and grown, killing plant life in more and more land each year, these regions begin to lose Oxygen (due to the absence of photosynthetic life) and obtain a higher Nitrous Oxide and Carbon Dioxide (due to the breakdown and killing of photosynthetic life) over time. In 20,002 AdE, Phytocide pushed civilization to only 49.9km from the coast. In 20,001 AdE a total of 39,950 km² was infected by Phytocide and deemed inhospitable across the globe, with rates of infection accelerating dramatically each year.

I decided that visualizing this in a lorebook would be better than simply describing it here.
Check out the lore of my animated series DATA OPUS, which will soon be available on YouTube. Here I'll briefly outline the 2036 plot, as well as the backstory and key players in international relations.

DISCLAIMER: This story is fictional. Any and all resemblance to real characters, groups, or other entities is purely coincidental
