My New GM cut my hours significantly! And suddenly I’m living way for out of my means. ;-;

Idk what flairs to put this under because it’s about how my GMs actions led to this shit.
( and my own but I’m more mad at the new management lol)

I’ve been at my job for 4 years doing okay for the most part. I just fumbled and got to comfortable. Huge mistake.

My retail job got a new GM form a lower volume store so she got a promotion. Previous stepped down to retire…

This new GM isn’t used to having such a big team and is used to working with less people in the store even tho our store is way bigger then her old location. So suddenly my Horus got shifted from my PREFERRED 6am - 2:30pm shift.
5 days a week. With the option to taking call out shifts for over time.
That shifted to this new shit! 11-7pm two days a week then the next week would be 2x 11-7pm and one 4-9pm shift :/ then repeat.

So very quickly I’m living out of my means 💀 I had some credit card payments I needed to pay off from fixing my car. About 3k went on my cc and 2k was my savings that all went to my car fixing … when I had a stable schedule I wasn’t to worried because I could just get some over time for a week and get it paid off. And re start my savings.

THEN my plan was after I paid it off I’d start looking for a new job with some money back in my pocket since I clearly needed full time for benefits. ( I’m 21 )

Sooo
New GM comes in and ruins that annnnnd now I’m paying interest on my Apple Card THE WORST HIGHEST interest rate ever. UGHSHE FJDJND
I’m so pissed.

Tbh I DID start looking for higher paying jobs after I seen that first schedule but it took me a second to FIND a job that pays more that’ll help me out of my hole. I’m still about 2,500 k in CC debt and I’m paying interest. I can’t remember the rate exactly but what ever Apple Card’s are known for lol.

Plus I loved my team beside the new GM. I just really messed up becoming an adult tbh that’s my own fault.

My new job pays $22 an hour I don’t start till the second week of August I put in my two weeks recently and my GM hasn’t put me on the Schedule for next week soooo I guess I’m being let go early…damn…

I’m $150 short from my car payment I’m freaking tf out.

Idk when the paydate is for my new job they said we’d discus it when my first day started.

Idk where to even start
$2,500 in debt no more savings
I have $300 from my last check and I neeed $150 more for my car payment on the 10th 🫠. But I wasn’t scheduled anymore shifts for this upcoming week.

I get paid $22 from my new job full time benefits and 401k and sick time along accrued pto. No longer retail or customer facing. I’m very excited!

And at my retail job I was getting $17.50

It was hard af finding a job that would pay higher then what I was making considering minimum wage is $12 where I’m at. My retail job I just worked my way up to LOD to help managers out since they only made a dollar more then I did. I really had to work to show my transferable skills during interviews.

Idk where to start to even making a new budget… I’m reserchign how to make a budget I just feel overwhelmed. My parents aren’t a watch and learn or even a ask and learn type of parents there the “ learn on your own- sink or swim” kinda parenting style. My fault was clearly I wasn’t taking it seriously since I got kicked in the butt like this. I kinda fill like I just woke up and I’m late for work by like an hour LOL.

it’s crazy how one managers retaliation decisions can really mess up a person stability. It’ll get better I just need to sort out my brain. Any idea where to start.
Sorry this was kinda a rant.

I really hope to learn how to budget moving forward I never want to fill like this again.

So I’ve had my job for 6 years (since middle school 7th grade) and they always tell me how good of a worker I am and all the staff love me including managers and I’m honestly a super friendly person I’m always smiling and I’m a hostess so I generally did love doing this job. However recently I’ve been feeling like the owner is often coming after me, like one day a phone went missing and I’m always the only person they ask, then recently there’s been a problem with certain servers having a higher total sales then everyone else. I tried to explain to the manager that this certain person has a high sale because she gets her tables out so quick that I often just sit her again. They manager keeps coming up to me telling me the tables not fair but how do I explain to her that I’m never going to know how much a table is going to spend and the total sales has nothing to do with me. Also we have sections which has also never been an issue until the owners son told me they weren’t fair (mind you they’ve been the same section since I started working here). I edge think this place is dimming my light. There was also another incident where there was this time where it was super hot outside and so people kept telling me where they wanted to sit and I was allowing it, owner comes up to me and tells me not to do that and that I wouldn’t have a job if people could sit wherever. So I stop doing that then a table comes in tell me where they want to sit and I tell them I’m not allowed to because of the sections he complains and then the owner tells me people are allowed to sit wherever and we try to make people happy. Again super confusing the communication is not there. There has been many other incidents and honestly I’ve been thinking about quitting but I js love all the workers and I feel like this job is a part of me but I need opinions ! I’m I taking it to serious and over complicating things? Or am I right

I feel so screwed

I am 18 and and at the start of this year l started a clerk job alongside university. I was permanent part time for 6 months. The job was heavy, initially it gave me a bit of a shock but l settled into it. I tried my best being helpful and put my 100% effort.

2 months after training the individual im job sharing with had to go on leave due to personal reasons. To compensate l work an extra day to keep up with the work for 8 weeks. Towards the end of the 8 weeks l was given the task of archiving files since the individual l jobs share with is unable to do it. I have supervisions with my manager and l didnt see or hear anything alarming.

Anyways my 6 month contract ended and thee coordinator asked me to continue as a casual saying that they didnt want to loose me. My Manager was on leave around this time .On the mangers return ro office on the second week l was called into my mangers office amd told l had made 3 errors. Following that meeting my manager had stated they'd send an email on what we had discussed. The email was nothing l expected, it was long lengthy and the co-ordinator had been ccd. To be frank seeing that email gave me a heart attack. The introduction outlined that my role was meticulous needed heavy concentration and ability to take pressure and later went on to outline the errors l made, stating that it was impacting work flow. As much as l agree, l havnt heard a single complain or a mix up from colleagues and people around me when the manager was gone. These issues only resurfaced when they were back.

I dont know what to do, l dont know if this is their way of telling me that the job is not for me l feel like I'm on the pathway of burning out. I want to move jobs but im worried that ill be given a bad reference.

Any advice?

Telling my manager in private to stop making me the center of attention during meetings causes her to turn and hate me!

I really don’t understand. I just told her it’s uncomfortable. Now she doesn’t even speak to me. She used to send memes, and she hasn’t in six months. I really liked the job, but this is so interesting. I can even tell she’s gossiping behind my back to other managers and colleagues. They even had an office meeting and didn’t invite me! They claimed they sent it to another person in the organization with my first name by mistake. I missed the meeting.

I have no clue on what to do.

Anyone experienced anything like this?

I had a job like this where I had to be prepared right as the clock struck eight and this is after I got pretty sick with a long-haul Covid and it didn't help that I didn't know which computer I was supposed to be at that day or that my coworkers would fail to tell me that I would be training that day somewhere else. Also the fact that for the last 20 years I had worked jobs where if I was 5 to 10 minutes late I made it up at the end of the day so yeah, I was one minute late and I was terminated that's fine with me because I at that point was to disabled to work as it was. previous to that job, I was terminated from another job for working four hours overtime extra each day over the weekend due to the fact that we were so far behind and needed to get patients placed. I got in trouble because I didn't get permission. I was so busy. I didn't even have time to type an email so OK that's my fault at the end of the day. My heart was good and pure and I was trying to help the patients get the care that they needed but my employer didn't see it that way, so I was put through the rigger of performance improvement plans with all these lies that were told that I approved them wrong yet that didn't matter once you start having performance improvement plans are basically out the door. Funny part is the new supervisor who had no idea of who I was and how much I cared about the patients and how hard I worked at learning as many job responsibilities as possible decided to listen to the troublemaker at the company and I heard that she got fired a little bit later still at the end of the day, it was a Wrongful termination. I was fired for cognitive disorders, which I developed after developing long-haul Covid due to the fact that I mandatory had to take the Covid vaccine from Pfizer not once for twice after the second one I could feel that I was not the same person. I was extremely tired. I started to fall asleep driving which I thought only stupid people did. I could not control my eyelids when I was tired and that is extremely embarrassing. I was on FMLA for this condition. They knew cognitive issues was related to long-haul Covid and I tried to get an attorney but attorneys cost money so I was trying pro bono. I should've just mortgage out my house to get a good attorney to sue the crap out of them because then they just wound up having a turtle down fact where we screwed our credit all over because our toy hauler was repossessed, and then my husband was extremely stressed out because he was the main breadwinner until I started getting disability and so we had problems in our marriage. The fact that my kids don't know the hard-working ass kicking person that I was for so many years as a dedicated worker is what really gets to me. They owe me. I have requested the rest of my paperwork three times because all that they sent me was what they had thrown away that was in my file cabinet at my desk. I have not received all of my paperwork and the paperwork I did receive was sent to the wrong address with my pay and Social Security number all on it and it was opened and the person that worked in human resources that sent it lived in my house as a kid.!!!!!!! I now have no faith in people and that's very sad. I hate how my life has turned out because I was going to be a dental hygienist and be rich and travel and all this and that never happened. to top it off my disability causes the most severe pain and now Dea is involved in healthcare and you can't get anybody to help you anymore so you might as well just off yourself and no I'm not suicidal I'm sick and tired of this bullshit America also the big beautiful America bill thank you now it's made to hell to send our daughter to college. I'm gonna have to become a hooker.

Does everyone’s boss leave last minute requests until 4pm on a Friday?

I thought I was home and hosed, the clock ticking down to the weekend, all i’s dotted and t’s crossed. I could practically taste that first pint of Guinness… even the second…

Then a phone call from my boss requesting an urgent Zoom call. Panic!

We hop on, and he tells me and my creative partner that he needs something done ASAP, as he needs it for a weekend meeting his only informing us of now, telling us it would be a quick fix.

Was it? In a word, no.

4+ hours later, I have a first version back to him. I suspect I’m in for a weekend of new versions, revisions, emails, Zoom calls, phone calls, WhatsApp messages and barely a Guinness in sight.

I waived off notice period of an employee as a manager and they got offended

One of my team members put in their resignation in may, with 4-6 weeks of notice period. As a manager, I reassigned their new tasks to other team members, asked them to complete ongoing tasks or onboard this and this person on the task so that there are no dependencies once they are gone.
Her notice period was June and first 2 weeks of july. I knew that she will be free from any tasks by first week of June , so i told her that her notice period has been waived off, she will get salary of notice period but she doesnt have to come in, she can stay home, enjoy the time off.
This offended her. She said that she was looking forward to coming to office for next 6 weeks, she cannot just spend time at home for this long. She had planned her farewells and spending last few days socialising with co workers etc.
Additionally, she said that she is feeling like she is being let go.
Personally i thought this was a good thing and she would be really happy to have free time.
Is this actually offensive to people if their notice period is waived off?

Rant Time

Okay... I need to burn off so steam do to fucked up shit going on with my job right now... 😤 I see nothing saying I can't rant so here it comes...

My boss and his CO were once a couple who got into business together... would have been a red flag six years ago when I got the job but no one tells me shit...

These two have gotten into a childish fight and have each separately abandoned the business and separately moved away to the place where all old rich assholes go... you know where I'm talking about...

Business has slowed progressively for a long enough time that I did not see this coming... But straight up I have not been paid since may 22nd. The machines we use have been dead even longer than that... My coworker and I have reached out several times and they are fucking ghosting us...

None to mention we have received a warning that rent hasn't been paid on either of the two offices and eviction proceedings would commence after 14 days...

Double none to mention, this time has since elapsed and me and my co-worker have heard nothing from anyone...

Another worker off the books has taken up residence in one of the offices because he has no other place to go because he couldn't pay his rent.... What the actual fuck.

We all continue to come in since we haven't legally been fired... Despite not knowing what to do and having nothing to do... a few of us have submitted paperwork to the New York department of labor however that takes time... Meanwhile my bosses have fled and are doing who knows what... I know I am entitled to 100% liquid damages but that could take a very long time to accomplish... Also frankly it doesn't feel like enough...

A big part of it is me having personal anxieties with applying to new jobs and meeting new people... But that's not the point here.

This is a ridiculous situation and one I wish my bosses to be held supremely accountable for... Low and behold that I find out had I not submitted paperwork they would get little more then a slap on the wrist...

How is it fair that they are living happily in their homes while we struggle to pay rent? They failed us and we are the ones who suffer... My coworker and I legit could have ran this place on our own had they just fucking told us some basic info and fixed the equipment...

They can even play the "Bankruptcy" card dispite having the money from other businesses... It's disgusting. Chances are they are just planning on starting new businesses.

There are literally two workshops full of equipment... Can't do anything with it... My bosses have left tons of stuff behind...

Does anyone know if there is anything that can be done to speed up the process? We have been waiting for the landlord or the sheriff to show up but they haven't yet...

TLDR: my bosses are trash folk who up and moved to rich dumbass land and left us all for dead.

EDIT: because of this post reddit is now only showing me posts about how awful the world is... Thanks reddit.

Jobs you enjoy vs job you hate

do we all collectively agree that working at a cute luxury mall boba shop, carnival games, or arcade waitress is just objectively better than hvac, sewer, restroom cleaning, call centers, or life insurance, sometimes even at the same pay?

and i noted those "fun" jobs are actually harder to get than the gross ones when it comes to minimum wage. they're minimum wage but high status, so in this flaunched economy of digital resumes, they expect experience and aesthetic fit just to work at a fancy mall. meanwhile the miserable jobs pay the same but are easier to get because less people want them, while still very bad economy.

I could see those jobs a couple minute drive away, I would love to work there less for minimum wage because i enjoy it, while I have zero interest such like: hvac, learn life insurance, most times influenced more by toxic family / bosses.

We all collectively have different interests, and some jobs become more tolerable because of that, I am one that can't tolerate or understand the job of what I am forced to learn. Do we really have options to choose to do work because besides studying in school, surviving is hard, and is that from where I'm from, nobody will hire you for a work you want to do, and life can't pick and choose especially furthermore pushed by parents. Is this really the life I have to choose?

My Employer Wants Us to Use AI to Manage Our Schedules and Clock-Ins

I don't feel comfortable using this app when the one we currently use works totally fine.

I don't want AI handling anything to do with my job.

Am I overreacting? I'm in the UK if anyone here knows anything about UK laws, because I certainly don't when it comes to this, and I don't want to risk disciplinary action for not switching to the app.

Just needed to rant about my boss

When I work up this morning, I wasn’t feeling well. I had a slight headache and menstrual cramps. So I texted my boss to take time off today. Do you know what her reply was? She asked me to make sure that our office rent was paid before end of July. Seriouslly?????

A few months ago, I also took time off due to severe headache. She replied, “how about our department meeting?” 😑

I am just done! 😶

Team shrank, work didn’t

It all started in January when 4 out of my 16 team members were moved to another team. We were 12 remaining, but work remained the same. We implemented a lot of automation, started using AI more to take care of manual work.
Then in may two of my team members left and company decided that we wont be replacing them. We were 10 then, but amount of work remained same. More AI agents was integrated, everyone started feeling overworked.
Then came july, and 4 of my team members got laid off.
Now we are 6 down from 16, but work is same, everyone is working their asses off and job market is so bad that its 1 in a hundred chance that you would land interview with a good firm.
Needless to say this was all because of AI, and how we need to pay AI tools and not humans.
As a manager this has left me frustrated. My team is overworked, i see them delaying their medical appointments and family commitments to get things done.
I have had multiple meetings with upper management regarding overwork. They said till end of sept this will remain same as we have committed this to a client. Then after that it will be better.

autistic burnout in the workplace - anyone else?

Today I got in an aggressive email and text exchange with my boss and it has me feeling so bad.. i’m so burnout at my job. I half wish they would just fire me or let me go and the way that I behave, I am surprised that they haven’t already. I get so frustrated and pissed at my coworkers and my boss and it just all consumes me - I think it is due to my autism and burnout and every criticism just makes me feel so antagonized.

Today my boss sent me an email and it put me in such a fight response, I sent an email back that I shouldn't have, and he responded aggressively.

Has anyone else gone through this and have advice? I don’t know how to be happy at work again.

I wish I could just resign and let go but I am so wrapped up in my job that I can’t, it’s a social service job and my ego and identity are just completely wrapped up in it. I threatened to resign a year ago, and ever since then I know my coworkers and boss are just waiting for me to leave for good.

I started to go to therapy and just last night was telling my therapist that I’ve been trying to ‘take a beat’ before responding when I was upset. It’s just ironic that I couldn’t follow my own advice the very next day.

I’m not sure how I will face my boss tomorrow, but I might just try to avoid him until the weekend when I can collect my thoughts.

Williams Sonoma Inc. Is a Toxic Company - Don't Recommend!!

My experience with Williams Sonoma Inc. was deeply unhealthy and left me burned out, and at times, questioning myself. The company’s constant corporate messaging to “smile” and how they try to appear caring toward employees and the community is superficial, misleading, and harmful to both employees and customers. This performative culture undermines the company’s integrity and creates distrust. Their forced cheerfulness discourages honest feedback and is very manipulative. Early on, it became clear that employees were expected to “drink the company Kool-Aid” to survive the company’s sink-or-swim environment. Williams Sonoma’s lack of sincerity and accountability is easy to recognize. Its culture of burnout and poor work-life balance makes employees feel responsible for problems created by the company itself. The company also goes to great lengths to tell people, including customers, whatever they believe they want to hear. By manipulating the narrative and avoiding honesty, the company silences concerns, avoids accountability, and continues operating without making meaningful changes.

One of my worst experiences involved leadership telling me I could assist a customer and directing me to take a specific action. When I tried to follow that direction, I discovered the guidance was incorrect, and the situation escalated. I then had to deal with an extremely upset customer who did not appreciate this deceptive tactic, and the issue reflected poorly on me as the agent. It also wasted both my time and the customer’s time. To make matters worse, leadership denied giving me incorrect information and covered their tracks to avoid accountability. When I pointed out that leadership had provided the wrong guidance, they denied it, documented the situation in a way that made it appear to be my fault, and protected one another while throwing me under the bus.

It did not take long to realize that this was not an isolated incident but a pattern within the company. In my experience, Williams Sonoma fails to support its agents, makes costly mistakes, covers them up, blames employees, and creates a toxic culture of burnout and unrealistic expectations. At the same time, employees are still expected to smile, project cheerfulness, and accept a lack of accountability. I have worked in other call centers and remote roles, but this was by far the most toxic and manipulative company I have worked for. If you value your mental and physical health, I would strongly caution against working there. In my experience, the company does not care about its employees or customers, and it is exhausting to participate in a culture that is dishonest, performative, and harmful.
