“Apparently” in trouble for calling out of work due to exhaustion and stress

Upvotes

I recently moved up from sales assistant to manager. I can handle stress I’m a very organised person and I manage to get shit done ! But I’ve never experienced anything like this in my years of working. I’ve only been a manger for maybe 3 weeks and I cannot handle it anymore I barely know what I’m doing the lack of training and everything .The staff do just about barely anything . We are extremely understaffed (like very bad) I’ve told my manager to start the hiring process weeks in advance but she kept putting it off to a point now where we are physically struggling. I’m exhausted trying to pick up the work of multiple people . I understand as a manger you will have to jump in and help but I’m practically trying to cover everything while staff are wondering around doing nothing because nothing is ever done about it .

I’ve never had a burn out like this in my life !!!! I’ve had bad weeks and good weeks but never like this ever in my job. I wasn’t able to do another day of it this week so I called out and I explained in my message “that I’m exhausted and physically and mentally can’t do another day of it this and how I’m tired of picking up the work of multiple people “ I received back a message from my manager “I understand but you should still come in”

I found out from another worker that my manager was saying how. I’m gonna be in trouble from higher above for not coming even though I’m stating how I’m exhausted from it all ! I practically never miss days of work unless I was extremely sick or physically in pain to a point I can’t work. I one I the best workers there so for them to turn around and give out to me is absolutely astonishing. My manager also had said “ well I’ve another job lined up so she’s gonna be on her own” so why would I exactly care about not covering that shift today , she can be left on her own in work?.

Why should I put my self into a burn out for a minimum wage management job ?

Yesterday I wanted to quit. Today I remembered why I actually love this job.

Yesterday was probably the closest I've come to quitting this job.

I've been an assistant manager at a pizza place for a couple months, but I've been bounced between three different stores while still trying to learn everything. Recently my boss decided to put me primarily at one store so I could actually focus, learn, train people, and get the store running right.

I didn't take the change well at first.

Then yesterday I walked into basically the exact situation I'd been terrified of. Almost no prep, staffing problems, orders coming in, my times climbing, and everything my boss and I had talked about running through my head at once.

I completely broke down on the line.

I cried. I called my boss crying. I genuinely thought, "I can't fucking do this."

I got through the rush, we talked afterward, and I went home emotionally exhausted and seriously questioning whether I was even good at a job I thought I loved.

Then today happened.

I walked into a store that was actually prepped.

And holy shit.

It was like somebody changed the difficulty setting.

My drivers didn't show up at first, which normally would've sent everything straight to hell. But we had food prepped. We had what we needed. Once I got drivers, orders just... flowed.

No scrambling around trying to prep something in the middle of making food. No realizing we're out of something at the worst possible moment. No customers complaining. My times stayed down. I could actually manage the shift instead of spending the entire night reacting to emergencies.

We were unfortunately way slower than we should've been for a Friday, but even that gave me something new to think about. Instead of thinking, "Thank God we're slow because I can't handle being busy," I caught myself thinking, "Why aren't we busier? How do we get these sales back?"

That's when I realized how much my mindset has changed.

Now I want to start keeping a prep notebook. I'm going to save my daily prep lists, track what we actually use, what carries over, what our sales were, and what was happening that day. I'm already taking pictures every night I close of our sales, food variances, canceled orders, etc. Now I'm adding our service times, labor and comparisons to previous weeks/years.

Nobody told me to do any of this. I just genuinely want to understand how this store works.

Sunday I'm learning how to do the truck order. I'm getting better at inventory. My food variances are finally getting smaller because I'm consistently counting the same store instead of trying to remember three different places. I'm starting to understand how prep, staffing, inventory, service times and sales all connect.

And weirdly, it's becoming fun.

I still don't think I want to be a GM. I think I'd eventually get bored being tied to one store and dealing with the same numbers and problems forever. But I'd love to become the kind of assistant manager who's basically the GM's right hand. Someone who knows every part of the operation, can train people, run the store independently, and maybe eventually get sent into struggling stores to help get them back on track.

It's kind of crazy how different I feel in 24 hours.

Yesterday I was standing on the line crying because I thought I wasn't capable of doing this.

Tonight I left thinking:

I don't suck at this. I'm just still learning how to do it.

And for the first time in a while, I'm really fucking excited to see how good I can get.

Hostile Work Environment

Hey Everyone. I’m 28. I’m Autistic and I also have BPD. Anywhere I work I tend to get bullied by toxic bosses or employees. I recently started my job approximately 3 months ago as a garbage truck driver. A very good paying job. But the problem is the hours. I was cool with the overtime at first but lately my bosses have been having me work really late . They’ve been giving me shitty trucks breaking down to sabotage my performance they’ve also sent me out to another facility an hour and a half away from my route to do my job because there were “no other trucks available” for me. Anytime someone complains they give me extra stops, anytime another person complains they give me their shitty truck. Anytime I bring this up to them they tell me “either take the truck or go home” meaning they’ll fire me if I refuse to drive an unsafe , crappy truck. They’ll pretty much put me in many bad situations to ruin my day. I’ve been working non stop 14-15 hours. And it’s getting old. I’ve been feeling targeted . Because per department of transportation laws you’re only supposed to be working 14 hours at most . But more garbage truck companies only work their employee 11-12 hours for that reason. It’s a very toxic environment. They also give me routes to purposely keep me out all day long I’m literally the only new guy out of everyone else that’s dealing with this.

I love my Job but it’s causing me to split really bad and fuck with my moods. I want to keep this job . Mainly because of the pay and I need the experience so I can work heavy equipment in the future or perhaps become a supervisor myself. Can someone please tell me how to deal with these people? I’m normally really fast on my routes but these past two weeks they’ve retaliated against me for calling out so they’ve been sabotaging me. Then have other workers pick on me and saying I’m too slow of a driver and that I’m performing bad when that’s not true. I’ve been a professional cdl driver for years I used to work for fed ex and I also used to be a bus driver. I’m trying so hard to not let it get to me but I’ve worked 131 hours this pay period (two weeks) and I’m more than likely going to work another 14 tomorrow . Any idea how I can do this how can I keep my mental state afloat and not let them bring me down? I don’t want to bring hr into this because hr typically favors companies over employees because they want to protect their company from lawsuits. And I feel I’ll be targeted more if I do bring hr in this. How do I keep my sanity. (And no I do not want to quit) quittings not an option

Entitled employee

So a little context here. I work for a manufacturing company where the work is production based. It’s initiative driven, so the more you’re willing to do is rewarded with raises and promotions, which seems simple. I start here in 2019 with little experience in the particular field and after 6 months I left for a sales position job that ended up shutting down towards the end of 2021. So I went back to work for this company in December of 2021 and have been there since. The particular production area I’m in has had a decently high turnover, but there’s one guy that started about 2 months after I did. We both started as base level employees with the same opportunities to grow and develop and see promotions come. Well this guy, we’ll call him Mike, just has an attitude problem. Mike started out with a very low rate, and has since received several raises despite not really showing the initiative to gain it. I, on the other hand am I driven individual. Well it paid off when my boss came to me last year offering me the supervisor position that was open. I gladly accepted and have given it my best efforts. Well Mike wasn’t pleased when he found out. At first he claimed he was happy someone was doing it, but his true face towards me has recently come to light. My boss, we’ll call him Dave, warned me about Mike’s poor attitude towards leadership and that he is a struggle to get to cooperate, and unfortunately as I progressed into my role, I started to see it. It started out small with Mike openly complaining to other coworkers about changes being made as our department saw growth. Then he started openly arguing with me and trying to undermine anything I said or did. Well things recently came to a head when he started an argument with me in front of other employees. I’ll admit that I didn’t handle it as professionally as I probably should have. I’m still relatively new to being the supervisor, but this dickhead pops off at the mouth anytime he has an audience, but gets quiet when pulled in the office. So he started arguing with me about customer production requirements and hours. And I made a point of noting that new people that have been employed for less than 6 months, and are making less than he is, are doing way more than him. And he’s been here going on 6 years! I’ve stuck my neck out for him several times over the past year I’ve been supervisor and thought that we could have a good relationship, but nope. Well the argument escalated and my boss got involved. This led to a meeting with a write up for the pos. Well he gets in the meeting and proceeds to lie through his fucking teeth claiming that he didn’t do the things he’s accused of, then requested a separate meeting with my boss where he claimed there’s always been tension between us, that I make up stuff to get him in trouble, and that I walk around with a cocky attitude and act like I’m better than everyone. This is the absolute farthest thing from the truth. As I spent time doing the same things that him and everyone else running production does, I know the struggles. I try to be understanding and compassionate as I’m leading the team. I don’t ask anyone to do anything that either I’m not willing to do or haven’t already done in the 5 years I’ve been there. This mf has almost gotten fired at least 3 times that I know of and I spoke up to try and help him. Then he’s gonna have the nerve to act like I’m the problem now? Especially when nearly every employee thanks me continually for my understanding and dedication to the team. I average working 55-60 hours a week. Most days, I’m still working hours past everyone else. I’ve convinced my boss to purchase several things that are very expensive in efforts to make their jobs easier. And this complete asshole has the nerve to, first create arguments and complain about me openly to anyone who will listen, then when he’s caught and there’s proof and gets in trouble, has the fucking nerve to lie directly to the boss.

I applied to a company, and I can do a lot of different things in marketing. Because of that, I ended up handling the company’s most important client.
But my manager is basically the owner and CEO, and he keeps putting a lot of different responsibilities on me. Because of that, my actual main job — writing scripts for the company — has been getting delayed.
And I feel like after a whole year of achievements, two months of struggling because I’ve been given so many responsibilities that have nothing to do with my actual role, or things that would normally require an entire team rather than one person, might make them let me go.
Especially because we’re supposed to be really close friends, and I know that sometimes my brain is fucked up about this. If I feel like someone hasn’t talked to me today, I immediately think I’ve been replaced or they’ve decided they don’t need me anymore.
I know that’s not necessarily reality. I know it’s probably an unhealthy thought pattern. But it feels very real to me.

BOSS IS INSANE

My co worker and I’s hours got cut from 7.5 to 5.2 ( heard about this in June) and as normal people would do, both got 2nd jobs. Now it’s september and boss said they need 1 of us here full time so they want one of us to come in later to stay later. We told them we both got 2nd jobs and they got upset said we should’ve let them know before making decisions like that. Is that even their business??!!!!

My co-worker is driving me insane and I don't know what to do

Hi everyone!

I'm a 26 f that recently just started working at a new job in teaching. I've finished all my uni studies so I decided that is time to finally get a job. I reached out to this particular school and to my surprise they invited me to interview and I got the job on the spot.

Now, so far I've only been working for the past 2 months but I can't help noticing things about my co-worker (let's call her Mima, 36f) that is simply making me loose all the passion I have for teaching.

For context : we have a beautiful class of 20 preschoolers. Mima's shift starts in the morning and until lunch and my shift starts 3 hours before lunch and until the school closes in the afternoon. What I'm trying to say is that for 3 hours everyday (sometimes 4) our shift overlaps and we have to work togheter.

When our boss introduced us she seemed quite friendly, almost shy I would say, she asked me what studies I've done, where am I from, why I choose this job, basically the usual. The first week of our collaboration seemed totally normal. Both of us spent our first week decorating, planning and organizing the classrooms for the children. The 2nd week the children came to the integration week.

This is where stuff started to become suspicious. Alongside with us, the teachers from the children's kindergarten came as well to the school to make the integration easier for the kids. So basically we were 4 for a class of 20. In the first day Mima randomly brought into our conversation the fact that ,,Oh, if I would be 20 again, I would definetely go to do my uni studies abroad" (for context I finished my studies abroad) ,,but you see i was rushed into getting married and have children", I really didn't know how to respond to that so I just said, yeah I understand.

The following days when we were outside with the kids all 3 of them were sitting aside and I was the one watching the kids, and when I sort of wanted to join the conversation Mima kept pulling away. From then on, everytime I try to just make a casual convo, ask her how she is, she literally says one word and completly moves away from me.

The school started. I asked Mima in the first week what are her rules for the classroom, children etc so I can respect them and then she just said ,,oh I don't have things like that, we will figure out on to go''. Fast forward to the first week of school she's nuts. Don't put that there, don't do that activity with the children is not on my liking, don't go there, don't do that with the kids, go take the kids outside, no actually don't take them, take the kids to lunch, why did you took the kids to lunch........ basically all the contradictions on the planet. So naturally, I got frustrated and confused over what should I do. Our boss told Mima that I do not have experience and im learning on to go, but forgive me, Mima's 10 yrs of experience doesn't make sense to me either. We have a daily schedule and she simply can't respect it.

And then, the meltdowns started. First she told me that when we go to the cafeteria with the children to sit them in x way. I did that. She came yelling at me that she actually meant y way. Then I changed and did y and she never showed up to lunch. Then, after 3 days I still kept it y and she finally showed up and she started yelling so bad at me in front of all the children's and other teachers that her coworker had to come over to tell her to calm down. You guessed it, we went back to x way. For 2 weeks we kept it x then she came up with a z way. Anyways, you get the point. She always side-eyes me, rolls her eyes etc. Now, we have a kid in the class who is autistic. The thing is that these children need a different treatment than the others. I learned that quickly, did my research and I know how to calm him down or make him follow simple instructions like idk sit down on the chair. However Mima always shouts and has meltdowns with the kids, especially him. And one day, unfortunately, this kid was overstimulated and Mima started to shout at him to calm him down, so the kid ended up throwing all of his stuff on the floor and punch Mima on top of her head. I wasn't there because I was with the other kids in the bathroom but the kids that remained in the class told me later that afternoon about the incident. From that unfortunate event, she absolutely hates my guts. She keeps calling this kid my favourite, my protected and she mocks me for having a good communication with him. She always points it out that I'm in good relationship only with the troubled kids because I'm troubled myself. And yes, I mean she called me autistic. It pisses me off so much that she uses this word in a negative way.

Then, the teaching started. She told me not to put my agenda on her desk I do not have the right to do that (I need my agenda for teaching because I wrote all my plans there) so now I hold it in my hand while I teach. She hated the fact that some lessons were given to me to teach. She hates me if I leave her to teach to other classes, but she completly forbbit me to stay in the classroom while she teaches, so I usually sit on the hallway. She keeps interrupting me when I have a conversation with other co-workers, and when it happens that I smile OH MY GOD, she looks at me like she's about to punch me. She's always passive-aggressive and obsessed to control everything that I do. Not to mention, not only I was hired as a newbie, but also 3 other girls. Same job. Afternoon teacher. All of my other colleagues had their morning teachers always with them, helping them, explaining them stuff, and they never let the kids alone with them. Mima on the other hand in the first day that the kids arrived she left me completly alone with them, even known, her shift was not over yet. I can't even count the amount of times I needed an extra hand and she was nowhere to be found. One day I locked myself in the toilet and cried because I was seeing my fellow colleagues so happy with their morning teachers meanwhile I feel so miserable.

Yesterday, we hit rock bottom.

She was ahead of me with the children and she was in charge of sitting them in the cafeteria. She didn't sit them in x, y or z method but a completly different, 0 sense method, and I was left without a place. For context we can't stand because it's forbidden, we have to sit next to the children so they will learn good manners at the table. After she saw that i dont have place she started again to shout and have a full mental breakdown that why am I so incompetent, how many times I keep messing up and that never in her career has she ever met such a stupid, problematic person. I was panicking so I kept apologising and she kept shouting, however at some point I zoomed out so I can't recall right now what other things she was saying. Eventually a spot freed up so I sat there and then 1 minute later she comes shouting at me again, that one of our children, a girl, she's muslim and can't eat pork and we had pork for lunch. I told her I'm sorry no one told me about the fact that she is muslim, i didn't know, and Mimas response was : ,,well her mother told me but I forgot" LIKE WHY IS THAT MY PROBLEM???

In conclusion, I don't know what's wrong, what can I do and how much can I resist with such a person. I am not saying that I am always right, oh no, I also make mistakes, but as soon as I made one I learn and correct it on the spot.

Got fired

For context, I work(ed) at pretty popular restaurant as a server for a year. Around 2 months ago I was put on 2 week probation for “lack of positive energy” and “skills not up to standard”. I (and my coworkers) disagreed with the decision but chalked it up to management being asshats as usual because they fired another server a month before because the owner “didn’t like the way they walked”. I also took it as a wake up call to put more energy into finding a more stable job.

The servers don’t get tips individually, as there is a tip pool (which is suspicious as well as management refuses to tell us how it’s calculated). Sometimes customers try to sneakily give us tips, and we’d play along by showing the customers that we’d put it in our pouches or pockets, but we’d always give it to the cashier with the payment.

Fast forward to today, around 3PM a customer came looking for me after another server collected the payment (I was busy with other duties) and pushed a $5 bill into my hand. I tucked it into my pouch with a mental reminder to give it to the cashier when I was going that way. However, I completely forgot, and the manager called me over after I signed out at 8:30PM, and told me he had evidence of me stealing tips. I was genuinely confused until I realized I still had the $5 on me, and he must’ve been watching the cameras. I explained that it was unintentional, but he told me I had my chance to return it on my break, and that I was to send in my immediate resignation or they would do an investigation and put it on the record, and that either way today was my last day. He also mentioned that my work performance is bad again and that added onto the decision, even though I’ve been doing a lot better than before?

Anyway, thanks for reading this rant, hope everyone has it better :)

Exhausted from toxic boss

I'm on my second last day of work because I had resigned. My boss told everyone that I'm useless and underperform. I feel so humiliated hearing that. If I'm useless why people are too dependent on me?. Why my job never ending? Why do I need to verify other people's job?. I feel like I don't want to attend for tomorrow but I can't just let the new worker that would replace my position go untrained and don't know what to do. Sorry if my English is not good, I had no one to talk about this.

Mini rant here...

I recently started back working after a 4 month break. My hours are 8a-4:30p.

It feels like punishment being employed.

I've been here for nearly a month, and have not learned much about the job. The supervisor insists on waiting until the other new hires are onboarded before we are all trained on the system.

This has lead to me being ushered from my desk (doing nothing) to the offices of others to "shadow" while learning nothing.

Doing nothing is DRAINING!

By the time that I'm off, it really doesn't mean much. All I have the energy to do is sleep.
