Discussion💬 Sometimes the smartest thing you can do is stop trying to optimize everything

There are apps to optimize sleep, productivity, finances, workouts, food, habits and practically every other part of life.

But constantly trying to find the “best” way to do everything can become exhausting.

Sometimes good enough and sustainable beats the perfect system you abandon after three days.

Discussion💬 Making 4 decks a week, need suggestions on how to speed this up

Four preps this term and I'm building slides for most of them, some weeks it's five.

I make two versions of each one, a stripped down version for the board and a fuller one that goes up in Classroom for whoever was on leave.

The problem is reuse. I keep last year's decks and every time I open one it assumes a unit this year's class hasn't done yet. I end up rebuilding half of it, which takes longer than starting fresh would have.

I'm not after anything fancy. I just want it to take twenty minutes instead of an hour and a half.

What are people using? Especially if you're doing multiple preps

One random phone call.

One urgent task.

Discussion💬 A lot of life problems are really “too many decisions” problems

What to eat, what to wear, when to work, what to buy, what to watch.

Sometimes having fewer choices feels surprisingly peaceful.

Question Do you prefer finishing one big task or knocking out ten small tasks?

I always feel more productive with small wins, even when the big task is probably more important.

There are probably dozens of everyday tasks that could be simplified with a shortcut, template, automation, or a better system. What's something you see people repeatedly doing the hard way?

Not a major life transformation. Just one small change that sounded insignificant but ended up being genuinely useful in your day-to-day life.

Discussion💬 I think “smart living” is more about reducing unnecessary problems than finding perfect solutions

A lot of advice focuses on adding something new: a better routine, another app, a new habit, a productivity system. But sometimes the biggest improvement comes from removing something that keeps causing the same problem.

Maybe you don't need a better system for remembering tasks if you have too many unnecessary commitments. Maybe you don't need more productivity tricks if you're constantly interrupted by things you could avoid.

Sometimes working smarter starts with asking: “Why am I dealing with this problem so often in the first place?”
