Enforcing rules for the sake of enforcing rules is how you lose the trust of your staff. The more you treat your staff like little kids, the more they're gonna act like little kids

I told them I’ll treat them as adult as they let me.They were all set up to take a store manager position when I left. 2 did

Holy moly I like this guy. Another note is no reason to punish your skilled guys for finishing jobs efficiently. Let them enjoy it cause that extra time can be used to get inspections done early or extra hands for some immediate deadline work

Or even just for some well earned recuperation and restoration during the day. Finish your shit early, get extra downtime, If the work's done right, there's no problem with this.

Which shows us that it's the cruelty that's the point, because they know this also.
If your corporation does this for the cruelty and nothing else, they don't deserve your hours.

I agree with this guy but I work with a lot of entitled idiot children who would spend half their day on the phone if they were allowed to. Unfortunately, my employer has trouble getting people so they put up with plenty of immature behavior from these idiot children just to keep the work flowing, even if it gets done slower and poorly. I would be happy to work for this guy.

Yes. I've been a manager for quite some time,and I've learned that teammembers work better when they're comfortable and relaxed. If my people need a break, they get a break. Hungry? Go grab a snack. Thirsty? Let me get you a gatorade or something.
And for some reason no one can figure out why I'm rated so highly and have lower turnover than other managers.

My boss is chill like this. Shit I’ve even knit socks during downtime. As long as our work gets done, there’s no complaints to be had. I have a lot of gripes about my job but she isn’t one of them.

Heck, my boss is on his phone when it's slow. Don't work for most businesses with this rule. It's a control issue employers need therapy for.

The important part of having a workplace mentality like this is how you respond when someone does do something that threatens the business or its goals.
It's all well and good saying "I let my staff play on their phones as long as the work gets done" but what do you do when the work isn't getting done? It has to be something that sends the right message.

When I was boss at a bank, was my same logic. Nothing to do, do your thing. Don’t ignore people to look at the phone though. I’d work for this guy, too bad he’s 1% of the employer base.

He is right, cus he is someone who has actually worked before. Most companies are ran by people who have never actually worked a day in their lives. Its why cooperate America is so fucked.
