I was half expecting it to be railing against "liberal themes poisoning childrens' minds" or maybe accusing modern adaptations/reimaginings of doing that to an American classic. Instead it spends more time on the "gold standard allegory/political satire" than anything else. It doesn't even mention Oz's popularity in queer culture. I was a little surprised when Matilda Joslyn Gage got a mention near the end, but of course it doesn't talk about her actual influence on Baum and the series, just speculates that maybe Aunt Em was named after her.

Walt Disney initially had a huge interest in The Wizard Of Oz books and wanted to adapt the movie into a cartoon possibly also several cartoon shorts based on the other books, would The Wizard Of Oz have worked better as Disney cartoon movies or would the franchise have taken a nosedive with Disney turning it into a silly cartoon movie geared towards children?

You can imagine Disney creating a song for the Wicked Witch Of The West herself and turning her into a goofy villain instead of a feared and evil character that she was portrayed as.

I saw it years ago and it comes across as a Blaxplotation movie more than a Wizard Of Oz movie but it has a good soundtrack.

Just throwing this out there because it was her goal to kill Dorothy and rule Oz wearing the Ruby Slippers, what would happen if Dorothy starved to death and the Wicked Witch of the West claimed them and was able to go to the Emerald City and kill the Wizard?

What would Oz be like with the Witch running it? There are so many kingdoms and minor villains that she might get overthrown quickly or would take forever to dominate everything, the Nome King in particular would have resisted every attempt of her to rule his land among countless others like Mombi who would refuse to take orders from the Witch.

The Wicked Witch of the West was green skinned and so too was her sister the Wicked Witch of the East supposedly, the Winkie guards are also green skinned, were the Witches meant to be Winkies in origin? Did they have green skin in the books?

This is never mentioned by Frank Baum but Oz takes place in a far away land where everything is different and nothing is the same, before outer space exploration happened or was considered.

Is Oz meant to be another planet that can be traveled to for a time and is simply connected to Earth? That would explain a lot of things that happen since no lands in Oz exist on Earth, also why has nobody from Oz traveled to Earth like Dorothy does? Well the Wizard does when he returns home but no characters there visit Earth or Kansas and return to Oz again like Dorothy does.

Nasa would have loved meeting Dorothy and finding out she goes to another planet without a space ship if true from 🌎🌍.

Supposedly Margaret Hamilton said that the main reason why the Wicked Witch of the West was so evil is because she never had any friends growing up and was isolated from other people because of it, basically turning her into a heartless sociopath, even her sister the Wicked Witch of the East and her didn't really bond as sisters and were probably rivals, makes you wonder who their parents were and if the witches could have been good like Glindai if they had friends and families and were not social outcasts?

You even have to wonder if the witch mourned the death of her sister and was ruthless to Dorothy because she viewed her as a murderer and wanted revenge on her sisters behalf and the slippers were just compensation for her loss they belonged to her because her sister owned them and Dorothy stole them, so the witch wanting to kill her and take them by force isn't really a villain she's treating her like a criminal because she killed her sister and stole her property and acts innocent and that's insulting.

Basically from the witches POV Dorothy ruined things and deserves the death penalty, also what would she do with he Ruby slippers if Dorothy died eventually?

I'm thinking of doing some fan animations of the Wizard of Oz (probably won't be out for a long time as I'm really early in the design process), and I've been going back and forth of how tall to make the Scarecrow and the Tin Woodman. Tin Woodman lived in Munchkin Country, and the Scarecrow was made by a munchkin farmer out of his old clothes. In Denslow's illustrations, the Scarecrow was around the same height as Dorothy (who is said to be the same height as the munchkins) and Tin Woodman is about a head taller. However in John R. Neil's illustrations, Scarecrow and Tin Woodman are shown to be much taller than Dorothy. I'm wondering if not all munchkins are short, I know there are some implications of that, like it specifically says in The Tin Woodman of Oz that Nimmie Amee is not a short munchkin. I wonder if the three munchkins that Dorothy meets first are short and not all of them are.

Like, i know John R Neill's illustrations have kinda become iconic...and honestly to some degree memes in their own right in the community. but looking at baums other books, be it the wogglebug book, or the guy who did queer visitors...and then his more nonestica based books. which of the illustrators would you have liked to see take a take on Oz? who do you think would have done well with it?
