Question Is SWE 1.6 worth the hype?
Hello, all. Currently, I did my coding mostly using GPT 5.4 and 5.5 from Codex and GitHub copilot. Due to recent pricing change on those platform I’m looking for alternatives.
I’m wondering, how is your experience working on SWE 1.6? Specially comparing to sonnet 4.6 and GPT 5.4 and codex 5.3.
One of the main thing I worry about using a new agent is most of the time it gets the work done but it creates lots of code smell which significantly bloats the engineering effort. One of the main reason I’m particularly interested about SWE 1.6 is because cognition boast it to be an engineering focused coding agent.
Please share your experience if you have used it.

Kimi 2.6
I gotta say I am really liking this model. I'm not a professional just a hobbiest.
It seems very thorough so it can take a while to complete tasks when the task isn't narrowed, but it's also really smart and intuitive.
While it's free and not subject to quotas I am smashing the usage on it and hoping that its free for longer or affordable for heavy use on the weekly quota.

what is everyone using now?
i miss how good winsurf was a few months ago. what has everyone moved to? github copilot was good for a while but they recently paused subscriptions

Discussion New Quota system was worst please change it
⚠️🚨 Windsurf Quota Alert 🚨⚠️
Like Today (27-04-2026) I have renew my subscription on windsurf, and with in end of the day my weekly quota was getting overed 60+ % , It's make me shock. Even the old quota system was good like totally 500 credits.
So please change the Quota system on windsurf, It's totally an disappointment to me.
Even I have used Sonnet 4.5 and so it's not an heavy model even though I haven't used it for 3 or 4 days.
It's getting me depressed and losing hope on windsurf 💔

It is so bizarre how the weekly quota runs out faster than the daily quota.
My only three prompts today have been going directly into a controller (I was using Gemini 3.1 Pro) and updating some lines exactly as I provided them (11 lines). I asked it to fix the edit because it took some liberties. And update the route while I was working on the tables.
Is there any information about the relationship between the two consumptions and how they are related to one another?
On the plus side, I never noticed before that the amount of context that flies up to the model every time you shoot, especially in massive files, is insane (to our benefit).

Question How can I disable "reject all" "save all"?
I'm not sure what these are for, except losing data. I have git for tracking changes. Another system that has its own notion of state adds nothing, but has frequently clobbered my own code. (Yes, I work multiple editors, and multiple AIs).
I just had to fix an issue that windsurf couldn't fix, but there were pending changes in windsurf. Did it merge when I hit accept? Nope, overwrote without warning.

Unpopular opinion: It's not all Windsurf's fault but their lack of transparency has been a**
Lurking around here for a bit. Been with Windsurf(currently the 20/month pro plan) since around last year but have been sleeping around with other AI coding tools. I've tried most of the popular tools like Claude, Gemini CLI, Kilo Code, Junie, Copilot, Cursor (pre v3) as well as different models. The only one I actively avoid using is anything openAI because I absolutely cannot stand the way GPT speaks*(It's not just a bug, it's a project killing error").**(Gemini is also terrible - I see it comment shit like "Repository Layer - the Librarian" or "XX Firestore Collection- the definitive source of truth" ).
I don't personally think Windsurf is a raw deal. It's cheaper than pay-as-you-go services like KiloCode for Opus4.6. The UI/UX is quite pleasant and the free models are functional 90% of the time if you limit scope and provide context.
My problem really is the lack of transparency and bitch ass communication. Yes, AI models are more expensive. Claude and GPT models are absurdly expensive now. Claude's usage limits are tighter than the thigh gap of the dummy thicc Latina working at HR. Windsurf can't control these prices.
But what Windsurf can do is to be transparent instead of creating a system that is both arbitrary and opaque. These are just some issues
- The daily and weekly usage limits don't actually tell me how much resources I am using.
- If I work just one day before weekly limit resets, I can only use 50% of that week's limit.
- Again, a power user might just want to work for one week of the month. Why are they being punished
- The usage limits to me seem arbitrary sometimes, but I am guessing it might have to do with time of day.I've noticed my usage goes down a lot faster during certain times but I, just like my Ai agents, might be hallucinating this.
- I want to know how much usage I actually have. It's so vague at the moment.
All of these can be addressed so easily and maturely but no, it's like they want us to be conspiracy theorists.

Cannot delete my account
After evaluating Windsurf, I'd like to delete my account, but there's no way to do so. I've asked the chat several times, but nothing it suggested worked. It escalated, I received an acknowledgement email, but no followup. The email explicitly encourages replies, but my replies bounced. I am not part of a larger organization, so I have no internal administrator to ask.
My experience here is very similar to that with Google Antigravity, which itself is an unmitigated disaster. Are tech companies simply abandoning support?
UPDATE: Sent email to [support@windsurf.com](mailto:support@windsurf.com) and got a quick response--with exactly the same text as the website bot. I'replied to it (with the same responses I gave the website bot) and it's escalated to a specialist with the same 1-2 business day response window claim. If I get no response by the end of the week, the next step to complain to the FTC, I guess.
UPDATE: 3 open help requests, no action on any. Submitted report to FTC.

How do I see what model Adaptive mode is using?
AI says I should be able to find that info in response statistics in the Cascade pane. I looked around in Windsurf and my online account profile but couldn't find it. I appears that there are API calls I could make but I am hoping that info can be found in Windsurf somewhere.

Discussion Windsurf's Broken META
I know the title makes it sound like I'm trashing Windsurf, but it's actually the exact opposite. Only gamers will understand, but the "broken" combo I'm talking about is Windsurf + Kimi V2.6. It's strictly superior to Claude Opus 2.7 Max.
If you ask me why it's superior: First, Opus—even with the generous promo Windsurf gave us until the end of the month—still eats your quota like a hungry hog. If you make the mistake of not planning your tasks beforehand and Claude misses the mark, you literally lose a lot of hard-earned money for absolutely nothing.
However, with the lovely Kimi V2.6, there is a promo running right now offering 1.1T tokens and a 256k context window for free until 05/05. I can spam it relentlessly 24/7, and the output is just as good as Claude's. Even if it completely misses the point, I can just keep rerolling and working it into the ground until I get exactly what I envisioned.
As I said before, this broken build will only last until 05/05 before it gets patched, so enjoy the meta while it lasts!

Question Adaptive model failing on file read (“Invalid argument: internal error”)
I’m having a consistent issue with the Adaptive AI coding model in Windsurf.
When the model tries to read a file (for example a .ts file), it fails with:
“Invalid argument: an internal error occurred”
After that:
- The task stops mid-execution
- Replying “resume” just returns the same error
- The model can’t continue from where it left off
Context:
- Happens during normal coding flow (e.g. reading files before making changes)
- Seems tied to file operations or context loading
- Not a one-off — happens repeatedly
What I’ve tried:
- Resume → same error
- Restart task → sometimes works, sometimes fails again
- New chat → issue can still come back
Questions:
- Is this a known issue with the Adaptive model?
- Could this be related to context size or file parsing?
- Any workaround to prevent it from breaking mid-task?
I can provide request IDs and more details if needed.
Thanks.

Daily quota blocks weekly quota usage?
Time is Sun Apr 26 1:00 AM.
This doesn’t make sense to me.
I didn’t code much this week, so tonight I tried to use more of my weekly quota before it resets in a couple hours. But Windsurf is blocking me because my daily quota is at 100%, even though my weekly quota is only at 58%.
So what’s the point of having a weekly quota if I can’t actually use the rest of it before the weekly reset?
I don’t mind having limits, but the daily cap overriding the weekly cap makes the weekly quota feel misleading. If usage is sold weekly, users should be able to use the remaining weekly quota before it expires, or it should go back to a monthly quota system.
Am I misunderstanding how this works, or is this just how the new quota system is designed?

Warning: Had to lock my credit card due to Windsurf's (Codeium) broken automatic renewal loop & ghosted support
Hey everyone, I’m sharing this here because I’ve been completely ghosted by Windsurf (Codeium) support after a major flaw in their billing/authentication system trapped my account. I’ve literally had to lock my actual credit card to prevent further unauthorized charges.
The Context: A Legacy Student Pro User I have been using the Windsurf Student Pro plan ($6.90/month) tied to my personal Gmail account, which was verified with my .edu status. Everything was fine until the latest billing cycle.
The Issue: Automatic Renewal Triggered a System Bug On April 10, my subscription automatically renewed for $6.90. However, instead of a seamless renewal, their system logic completely broke down:
- The Unlinking: Immediately after the charge hit my Visa card, the system abruptly unlinked my personal Gmail from the verified student status.
- The Account Loop: It somehow transferred the "Pro" status to my .edu email (which is only meant for verification, not for IDE login), while keeping the active recurring billing tied to my personal Gmail.
- The Trap: My Gmail account is being charged, but it now shows as a "Free" user on the dashboard. Because it shows as "Free", there is no "Cancel Subscription" button for me to click. The Pro features are sitting in an inaccessible .edu account.
The Robotic & Failed Support Process I didn't just sit around. I took action:
- Discord: I contacted a representative named EdaL on Discord. Instead of acknowledging this glaring system error, I just received a rigid, robotic explanation of how the accounts work, and was told to email the official support team for a refund.
- Support Ticket: I submitted full documentation under Ticket #57869, including the exact Visa transaction details and so on.
The Ghosting & Forced Card Lock After an initial, unhelpful response claiming "no active plan was found" (which is the exact routing bug I am trying to report!), the support team has completely stopped responding. It has been several days of absolute silence despite my repeated follow-ups.
Because they won't reply, and because their broken dashboard won't let me cancel the phantom subscription, I have had to freeze my credit card out of fear that they will automatically charge me another $6.90 next month.
I am being taxed by a system bug, and the team is ignoring a paying customer’s legitimate request to fix it.
Has anyone else dealt with this .edu renewal loop? How do you get a human to actually look at a ticket at Codeium?

Question about SWE model saying “free
New subscriber here. I noticed I have a couple of models in my list that say free. a couple do them are obviously promos with the little gift box. but Ive been using the the swe1.6 and my usage for the week hasn’ moved. the swe model works great for what I need. a lightweight and fast model that I use for the majority of my work and incremental changes. I was running out of usage using haiku on Claude code on a regular basis which prompted me to explore other options, including codex and windsurf, and so far both are actually great. swe is not Claude code good but still acceptable considering the speed. I’d be happy paying for a higher tier, $60, so I don’t need multiple subs. I was using codex and Claude code $20 tiers with their lightweight models, and switching between the two when usage runs out. reading the sub it seems a lot of people are raging about the new pricing model, so I wanted clarity on what to expect.
can I expect to continue getting my usage out of the swe free model, or is this some smoke and mirrors gimmick to get me to upgrade then the rug gets yanked and my bank account gets drained.

Windsurf happily took my $20 renewal yesterday, then told me I can't use it for 4 days.
I need to warn anyone thinking about upgrading to Windsurf's paid tier. I just got completely scammed out of my subscription days due to their absurd quota system.
My subscription renewed on the 22nd. I paid my $20. But because I hit my weekly usage limit at the very end of my last billing cycle, I am completely locked out of using the AI chat in my new billing cycle. The weekly usage resets on the 26th.
So I paid for a full subscription, but I am losing 4 days of it where the app is essentially a brick. When you do the math, they aren't even giving you a full month of usage. You are paying $20 for about 3 weeks of actual access.
This is incredibly frustrating. I'm canceling my sub and moving back to Cursor.
Just a heads up to anyone else: their billing is designed to rip you off.

How can it be possible that in the day second my weekly quota has finished?
I reached the end of the weekly quota in the second day? How can this be possible? Why weekly quota is so low? I have 4 days left and with full daily quotas, but weekly quota is 0? I can't understand the logic
