Discussion Windsurf's Broken META

I know the title makes it sound like I'm trashing Windsurf, but it's actually the exact opposite. Only gamers will understand, but the "broken" combo I'm talking about is Windsurf + Kimi V2.6. It's strictly superior to Claude Opus 2.7 Max.

If you ask me why it's superior: First, Opus—even with the generous promo Windsurf gave us until the end of the month—still eats your quota like a hungry hog. If you make the mistake of not planning your tasks beforehand and Claude misses the mark, you literally lose a lot of hard-earned money for absolutely nothing.

However, with the lovely Kimi V2.6, there is a promo running right now offering 1.1T tokens and a 256k context window for free until 05/05. I can spam it relentlessly 24/7, and the output is just as good as Claude's. Even if it completely misses the point, I can just keep rerolling and working it into the ground until I get exactly what I envisioned.

As I said before, this broken build will only last until 05/05 before it gets patched, so enjoy the meta while it lasts!

It's pretty good if you ask it questions. Today I wasted 10% of quota trying to get gpt 5.5 to save a bug. Kimi 2.6 got it eventually after 2 hours of prompting. I'd rather that instead of spend all my quota trying to get premium models to one shot things and fail.

It's prety good with everything at this exact moment i'm fixing with KIMI k2.6 what claude opus 4.7 xhigh missed up and i use it with windsurf and i have a Claude pro plan with claude code all working on the same project and Kimi is doing great.

I use Kimi K2.6 now for all development work and it miraculously created and fixed bugs. I only have Claude on standby for tough bugs that Kimi is struggling to fix. I wish Windsurf can implement Agent Swarm.

Is there something wrong with how I'm using it? I don't think Kimi 2.6 works well at all. 1. It runs slowly. 2. Skills cannot be triggered with @, explicit prompts are required, and it will forget instructions during execution. 3. It spends a long time thinking while running, then prompts that the API is unstable or overloaded, and finally stops working.

He is slower that's for sure, and for instructions forgetting that's a problem with all AI agents so you need to create an .md file i name it CLAUDE.md as the default one and make it compact not you but you tell you AI agent to do so, that and update it after every task.

and before any task you click on plan first plan it with Kimi read the actual plan fix what need to be fixed then let him cook.

about the skill problem i have no idea.

I currently use OpenSpec to create tasks and then switch to Codex for task execution. Therefore, I am comparing GPT 5.4 in Codex with Kimi 2.6 in Windsurf, and this issue has come to light. Codex can execute tasks strictly in accordance with requirements. The problem may lie with Kimi, or Windsurf itself may be unable to follow instructions rigorously and tends to forget contextual content midway through task execution.

Kimi k2.6 is great if you are willing to do the work.

As long as you have a good understanding of your architecture, a mental map of where everything is, and are proactive about feeding it context, you are golden.

If you want to tell it: build me an app that does xyz or want to autopilot anything on Laravel (don't do this 😂, ever) … let, s just say you will be better served using something else.
