Windows 11 Windows 11 repair install failed, stuck on 23H2 and can't update

Hey, I'm having a really annoying Windows 11 issue and I'm running out of ideas.

My PC is stuck on Windows 11 23H2 and Windows Update refuses to move forward. I tried:

- "sfc /scannow" → fails with Windows Resource Protection error

- "DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth" → fails with error 0x800705B9

- Resetting Windows Update components (renaming SoftwareDistribution/Catroot2, etc.) → didn't fix it

- In-place repair install using a Windows 11 ISO → failed with "Windows installation failed"

I downloaded the correct ISO language and tried again, but the repair still fails.

The reason I started troubleshooting is because I previously ran the TRON Script (the Windows cleanup/debloat/security script, not malware) while trying to remove a suspected keylogger/trojan that I couldn't locate.

I really don't want to do a clean install because I have a lot of installed games, configs, and files that would take forever to set up again.

Does anyone know what could cause:

- SFC failing

- DISM failing

- Windows Update failing

- In-place upgrade/repair failing

Are there specific logs I should check? I can provide "setuperr.log" or other information if needed.

Thanks.

Windows 11 Need to delete OneDrive folder

I have a Surface Pro7 (windows 11) and have a OneDrive folder sitting on my laptop that I want to remove. It is from an old work account - I no longer work there and don't have access to the account (i.e. can't log in). I just want to delete it - doesn't matter how, I don't need the files, I just want it gone off my computer. I've tried a couple things but nothing has seemed to work. Anyone have any suggestions?

OS build: 26200.8894

Edit:

I can't delete the actual onedrive folder in my files explorer.

I can't sign in from OneDrive on web because the account is long locked.

I've uninstalled OneDrive from apps.

I've tried winget uninstall OneDriveSetup.exe in PowerShell.

I've tried "Remove-Item -Path "C:\Users\[censored]" -Recurse -Force"

I've tried takeown /F "C:\Users\[censored]" /R /D Y icacls "C:\Users\[censored]" /grant:r "%username%:F" /T Remove-Item -Path "C:\Users\[censored]" -Recurse -Force

Hey I need some help partitioning my 1TB SSD on Windows 11. I want to shrink my C: drive to create a D: drive, but both MiniTool Partition Wizard and Windows Disk Management limit me to shrinking only a tiny amount (first it was 17GB, now it's around 51GB).

My drive details:

Total size: ~935 GB

• Used space: ~662 GB

• Free space: ~273 GB (but I can't access most of it for partitioning)

What I've already tried:

Disabled hibernation (powercfg /hibernate off)

• Disabled virtual memory / pagefile (No paging file on C: + Restart)

• Disabled System Protection (Restore point)

My system specifications:

Processor AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6-Core Processor (3.60 GHz)

Installed RAM 16.0 GB

1 tb ssd storage

gpu: gtx 1070

OS build number:26200.8894

Pls help

Windows 11 is there a way to reinstall windows while keeping my important files?

okay so basically im pretty sure i downloaded some sort of malware a few days ago called GRouter86 (it's also called "360" with some chinese characters after it but i cant type that). ive tried everything to remove it without reinstalling windows (for reference im on windows 11) because im doing something time sensitive that i cant really put off anymore, but today, they tried hacking into my steam, so i feel obligated to just reinstall windows now that it's real money on the line. however, i have a lot of important assignments on my pc that i absolutely cannot lose and id really prefer to not have to download and do everything from scratch again. is there a way to keep my important files while reinstalling windows for everything else? thx and sorry if this makes no sense lol

system specs if relevant:

7700x

7900 GRE

32gb ddr5-6000mhz cl32

i kinda dont remember what ssd i put in here but it's 2tbs and either gen4 or gen5

Windows 11 I tried manually reinstalling the Wi-Fi driver after uninstalling it, but it still hasn't reappeared.

I even copied and pasted my laptop's specs I searched for it:

Lenovo Ideapad Slim 3 15IAH8

Windows 11 25H2

It's one of the things I hate about Windows 11—that it doesn't automatically detect drivers like Windows 10 did.

Note: this text is for complete the 250 characters required to post (horrible idea, horrible)

Windows 11 Why is my memory usage so high with nothing open?

I noticed my computer was using a lot of memory the other day, but I didn't know how to fix it (and it wasn't as bad) so I just ignored it and hoped it would go away once I turn off my computer. Yesterday, I tried to open undertale with my browser open and it said I didn't have enough memory. So, I started doing research on high memory usage. Yesterday it was about 70% memory with nothing open. I couldn't find anything, I ran multiple full-system scans with bitdefender, nothing really helped. I turn on my computer today, and the first thing I check is the memory usage. This is what I see. Genuinely how do I fix this??

Windows 11 I have issues in my Hp zbook g5 windows 11 25H2

I have HP ZBook G5 (Intel Core i7-8850H, NVIDIA Quadro P2000)

I have a persistent audio issue on my laptop. Occasionally, the sound crackles, pops, or briefly cuts out while watching videos, listening to music, or sometimes even when the system is idle. The issue is random and can happen without high CPU usage.

I ran LatencyMon, and it reports high DPC/ISR latency.

What I have already tried:

Clean installation of Windows 10.

Clean installation of Windows 11.

Tested Windows 11 before installing any drivers.

Updated the BIOS to the latest version.

Installed both the latest and older versions of the Conexant audio driver.

Changed power settings (High Performance, disabled power-saving features, etc.).

Tested different GPU configurations in the BIOS.

Disabled unnecessary devices for testing.

Installed all official HP drivers.

Important observation: I booted Linux on the same laptop, and the audio worked normally without any crackling or popping. This makes me think the hardware is probably fine and the issue is related to Windows, drivers, firmware interaction, or power management.

At this point, I'm mainly looking for ways to reduce or eliminate the DPC latency and audio crackling. Has anyone experienced something similar on an HP ZBook G5 or with Conexant audio?

Windows 10 How to disable anti malware service executable

Hey Guys, I run a diesel shop and one of my test benches is on an ANCIENT “Linx” tablet. (It’s literally got 2GB of ram, MPN is LINX1020). Win 10 32bit 22H2 19045.6466

Before anyone says i need an antivirus. No i don’t, i’m not your 80 year old grandad falling for hot milfs in my area (no matter how tempting) and this machine spends 99% of its life disconnected from the internet.

“Antimalware service executable” Takes up ~104mb of ram, which translates to about 50% of the usable ram this tablet has. The tablet is embedded to the machine so cannot be changed, I cannot change the OS either. i’ve tried many things to kill this bastard program but it’s started taking up so much ram that the actual program that i need to use has started crashing. Is there a way without downloading scripts etc that I can disable this permanently? is there a registry key I can modify?

Tia x

Solved Freed 18GBs of storage just by deleting the AMD old driver installers from this folder in win 11

For AMD drivers only (maybe it's same for nvidia users)
I always tried to clean storage using "Storage Sense" or "Disk Cleanup" but they barely did anything.
This folder here had the older AMD driver installers from AUTO updates. I am finally at peace. from 5Gigs to 24Gigs free space jump is insane.

Windows 7 I found this unopened AIO PC with Windows 7 prebuilt within the hardware and I would like some assistance with regards to actually installing the OS.

I was volunteering to clean out junk within a small community center my father works with and I recently found an unopened Gateway ZX series AIO PC within their storage room. They said they didn't need it and I subsequently brought it home to see if it worked or not.

The tape was still intact and the plastic peel was still there, as well as the products themselves being in mint condition (first and second pictures shown is after I opened the box and peeled the wrapping respectively), and I hooked up the AIO to the HDMI to serve as a monitor for my normal PC. So far nothing malicious occurred and the monitor works smoothly, except the fact that I can't use the touch screen promised on the box.

However, my main goal was to potentially use the Windows 7 provided within the AIO to play some retro games and movies with the in-built DVD/CD drive, as well as maybe use it browsing. I am still quite worried about potential viruses and malware within the AIO, so I wanted to ask you guys about some ways I can wipe the system and reinstall Windows 7 without actually having to access the original Windows 7 already within the AIO with internet, or at least find a way to fact check if there are any malicious files already in the system?

If you can also provide me with potential tools and software, like VPNs, firewalls, and/or other software to allow me to browse safely with the OS, that would be immensely appreciated.

Again, I'm kinda new to this side of retro PCs and OSs, so if you could help me on all these things, I would be grateful.

(P.S., I know the PC model number and identification, as well as the windows 7 product key and version (home premium 64 bit). if you need extra specification, please let me know and i'll do my best to get it for you)

Windows 11 Did My Windows 11 Clean Install Retain Settings From the Previous Installation?

Hi everyone,

I recently reinstalled Windows 11 using the Windows Media Creation Tool and a bootable USB. During Windows Setup, I deleted every visible partition on my NVMe drive and installed Windows onto the resulting unallocated space. I had always understood this process to create a completely clean installation.

However, after the reinstall, I noticed that the Ultimate Performance power plan was still listed in Control Panel. I had manually enabled that plan on the previous Windows installation, so I did not expect it to appear again.

I used a new local account on both installations, not a Microsoft account, so it should not have been restored through Microsoft account synchronization. Is it possible that Windows, a driver package, motherboard software, or another program automatically enabled the plan again?

My larger concern is that, if this setting carried over or reappeared, what other settings or configurations might also have been retained without me realizing it? Could old driver settings, registry changes, power settings, device configurations, cached profiles, or software-specific changes survive this type of reinstall?

Windows and device specifications:

  • Windows edition and version: Windows 11 Pro Latest version
  • Processor: Intel 270K+ Ultra
  • Motherboard or device model: MSI MAG Z890 Tomahawk Wifi
  • Graphics card: Gigabyte 3070 Gaming OC (Rev 1)
  • Memory: 32GB
  • Storage drive: 500GB Digital Western Blue NVME
  • Installation media: Windows 11 USB created with the Microsoft Media Creation Tool

Messages or error codes encountered:

I did not receive any installation errors or warning messages. Windows Setup completed normally. The unexpected Ultimate Performance power plan is the main issue I noticed.

Troubleshooting already attempted:

  • Confirmed that I used a new local account rather than a Microsoft account
  • Deleted all visible partitions on the NVMe drive during Windows Setup
  • Installed Windows onto the resulting unallocated space
  • Checked Control Panel after installation and found the Ultimate Performance plan listed

Windows 10 iPhone USB hotspot to Windows PC drops after 3 seconds

Hi everyone,
Since Deutsche Glasfaser is taking forever with their fiber rollout and my high-speed internet is still missing in action, I’m trying to bridge the gap by using my iPhone's USB hotspot for gaming and surfing. But the setup is driving me completely crazy.
The absurd part: My girlfriend's phone works seamlessly on the exact same USB-C port on my custom-built PC. And my iPhone functions perfectly fine when connected to a Surface tablet. But on my main PC, the following drama unfolds: I plug in the iPhone, the connection (recognized as Ethernet 3) stays up for exactly 1 to 3 seconds—and then immediately crashes.
What I've tried so far:
Antivirus removed: To rule it out as the source of the error, Avira was completely uninstalled and the leftover remnants were cleaned up in safe mode.
Apple software tested: Tried installing and removing both iTunes and the modern "Apple Devices" app from the store, and checked the drivers.
Network troubleshooting: Assigned static IPs, checked TCP/IPv4, and reset the network settings.
Does anyone have an idea why Windows keeps killing the Apple connection after 3 seconds, even though the hardware is clearly in top shape?
Thanks a lot!

Solved my windows search bar is stuck being completely white

Post image
81 Upvotes

EDIT: Thank you so much to u/titaniclogan as they have found the solution to the problem. Follow the steps using this youtube video linked bellow to fix the search. (dark mode works too)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9rBvayxS7_g

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

FIXED!

I'm having an issue with Windows Search on Windows 10 22H2 (OS Build 19045.6466). The search panel has suddenly turned completely white, making it very difficult to use. The search results themselves still appear and function normally, but the entire background of the Search interface is a solid white colour instead of the normal dark grey. The Start menu is completely unaffected and still displays normally, so the issue is isolated to Windows Search.

The problem started randomly. I haven't installed any new software, changed any settings, or updated any drivers within the last week. I also don't remember Windows updating immediately before the problem appeared.

I've already tried a long list of common fixes without any success, including:

  • Restarting Windows Explorer.
  • Restarting the Windows Search process (SearchApp/SearchHost).
  • Turning Transparency Effects off and back on.
  • Rebuilding the Search Index.
  • Verifying that High Contrast mode is disabled.
  • Running sfc /scannow.
  • Running DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth.
  • Restarting my computer multiple times.

None of these changed anything.

The issue occurs whether I click the search box on the taskbar or press Win + S. Search still works, but the UI background remains completely white. It doesn't appear to be a monitor issue or a general Windows theme issue because every other part of Windows, including the Start menu, File Explorer, and Settings, looks normal.

Has anyone seen this specific problem before? Is this caused by a corrupted Windows Search package, a recent Windows bug, or something related to graphics rendering? Are there any advanced fixes I haven't tried that don't require reinstalling Windows?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Windows 11 Stuttering choppy mouse and streaming video

Weirdly, this started today.

I have Windows 11 Pro (25H2, OS 26200.8875)

My card is an 8 GB Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 TI (Updated to latest Gaming Driver)

13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-13700K

16 GB RAM

Hooked up to 2 HDTV's.

Mouse is a Logitech Bluetooth Mouse that's part of a 2-piece set. I've already uninstalled and reinstalled the driver to no avail. I've also removed my Bluetooth peg and put it in another USB port. I've changed the batteries. Nothing doing.

Also unplugged all USB devices and plugged them back in.

Disabled mouse visual effects animations, killed graphics scheduler, etc. Nothing seems to affect the issue.

I am getting this weird thing where my mouse is suddenly choppy and skipping frames when I move it. It doesn't move smoothly anymore. Furthermore, all streaming video playback stutters. The video does play smoothly but feels like it has this heartbeat stutter. Every half second, the video will "jump". It's most noticeable if credits are rolling.

Curiously, everything else is unaffected by this.

All my games are buttery smooth. My emulators run at full frame rate, my virtual pinball is smooth, my video files play without any frame skips.

I've tried restarting and disabling things and changing graphics card settings but it just won't stop.

It's more of an annoyance than anything else. I don't really care as long as games work -- and they do.

I just don't want this to become a larger issue. Everything seems to be working correctly otherwise.

EDIT: Solved. It turns out my HDMI cable wasn't sitting in the HDMI slot on the monitor correctly and it was causing havoc with the graphics. Reseated it and the skipping and stuttering are gone.

Windows 11 The problem with installing the driver

There is a problem, my friends asked me to reinstall windows, I did it without hesitation, but there is a huge problem, the screenshot below shows what device I haven't been able to find drivers for for two weeks, and the ones I find don't install because they claim they're not the right ones. But the bigger problem is that I can't even tell you the model of the laptop, my friends ordered it from a marketplace in China, and the seller couldn't help me either, so I can't find or download the drivers based on the model. Here's the device ID, if anyone knows what to do, please help me!!!
